GravatarInteresting, this discussion of ethics. Can we include the treatment of the Swiftboaters who got echoed over and over by the MSM? Was that ethical?

GravatarHecate - I agree. If they want to discuss ethics, let's discuss the Swift Liars.

Then let's have someone - please, someone, - investigate how Dan Rather was crucified over those memos. Since that was a function of the rightwing blogs, let's really get an ethics discussion going.

GravatarFuck blog ethics. Isn't it jounalistic ethics to allow the person mentioned unfavorably in a story -- in this case Armstrong -- the opportunity to respond?

GravatarDoes it piss anyone else off that this whole "controversy", and ensuing debate, is just a smokescreen for the Williams thing? It's just to put liberals on the defensive again, and to invent equivalencies where none exsist.

It's an effective strategy to divert attention from White House payola, but it's f***ing annoying. Now everyone's talking about this crap and not the important stuff...Grrr

GravatarThe best thing that can happen is for O'reilly to declare a boycott against Left Wing Blogs. Readership we rise tenfold. Really all this attention is going to bring more people to the truth.

Oh, and Ricky........fuck you, your not a Democrat! Why don't you call yourself the "Little Rove Ass-Kisser"

GravatarAnd what is the purpose of the blog? Different writers have different motives, methods and purposes. Purpose and method do effect the formation of ethics for a discipline. Are bloggers always intending to report the news, or are some just forums for discussion? Would the 'fact checking' ethics be applied different? I'm not advocating posting shit, but shit is a subjective analysis that has to be determined based on the audience, writer and purpose, all of which are variables in motion for a blog.

Oye. Maybe some people want to be the press, and they can adopt those standards if they want; try to define those standards, though.

Blogs, like anything else, should be read with the motive, audience and purpose in mind. BTW, this critical thinking should also be applied to the so-called news.

GravatarWhenever a blogger gets cited in the MM, even for a non-issue like Zephyr-gate, bloggers from both sides of the aisle flog it ad nauseum as if they've just discovered a cure for cancer. Enough already. No one gave a shit when the "story" broke, and no one gives a shit now.

GravatarOn some discussion of kos suing people, Al Franken was brought up. This made me wonder, what has site traffic on dkos and mydd been like for the past few days? Sure they were big before, but long after the lies are cleared up, some of the new eyeballs might still be around. Probably should ask them directly.

Obviously not true, since you are here and you give a shit enough to post this rude comment. What's with the right that they never get the point? You coming here to bitch about the story is as much of a validation of its impact as anything else that has happened.

But thanks for validating my "rude comment" by commenting on it. You must have been really impressed.

GravatarTurn this into a discussion about blog ethics and you can chalk up another win for the Mighty Right Wing Wurlitzer.

Republicans sure know how to play wedgie with the Democrats. Democrats have the ultimate free enterprise argument, but can't seem to play the card.

You start your own blog, you get to put up whatever you want, and you don't really have to tell anyone about who's paying you to do it if you don't want to. 1st amendment anyone?

The problem that started all this isn't really Armstrong Williams at all, and, it's wrong to make him the villain. The problem is that someone in the government broke the law by paying him. That fact is completely absent in all these "Dean pay for play" stories.

Besides, anyone that says they didn't know Jerome and Kos were for Dean have to be complete idiots.

Nobody, and I do mean nobody, needs to be lectured about the ethics of anything by the likes of Glenn Reynolds.

GravatarNot to seem like a tinfoil hat kind of guy, but I can't help but wonder how much the DNC is behind this whole "Dean campaign paid bloggers" bullshit. Really, thing about this for a minute, this crap is starting to get "traction" just as Dean is stepping up his campaign to take over as head of the DNC. Why would the GOP waste so much energy trying to discredit Dean now? He's no threat to them and besides, they have bigger fish to fry (like looting Social Security). No, something about this really stinks, and I for one suspect it's the Republican wing of the Democratic Party at work (Yeah, Mcauliffe, Roemer, Lieberman, et al, I'm talking to you). Dean got shafted once by his own party, and the result is we ended up with John Kerry running against Bush (which is what I believe the Rove Reich wanted all along). Hey, it's just my opinion (it's worth what it costs).

Gravatargene214 - What I really want to know is just who the hell Zephyr Teachout is working for.

I said yesterday that I hadn't heard of her until this story broke, and that's true. This is a hell of an introduction. I wouldn't trust her now with a used toothbrush.

if you even want to know what an acronym stands for, you can go to acronymfinder.com and plug it in.
