Typical pig atrocities, use minorities (Rice, Gonzalez) to flak your disasters (Iraq, Iraq and Iraq).
Has anyone heard the rumor or perhaps old tale that when Rumsfeld was on his infamous hand-shaking mission to Iraq, that Saddam had him (Rummy) raped by a male soldier? The story goes that Rummy was staying in a Saddam palace overnight, and Saddam had him raped to show him who was boss.
Someone told me this and said it was an old, widespread story, but I could find no mention of it online.

Both Boxer and Kerry are not going to get the ear of the SOS, or arBusto admn for obvious reasons; One is Boxer's admirable refusal to accept wringmeat as the actual winner of the 2004 election, given the obvious Ohio voter disenfranchisement, and in the case of actual winner of 2004 election; JFK, enough said.
Obama is green/rookie and it would be most foolish to come out of the gate labeled controversial if there is nothing to gain. (Think GOP constant premature ejac on any/every issue(s) vs foreplay and marvelous gasm when substance matters)
Biden and maybe Feingold are the only Senators that in my opinion should have joined Kerry and the heavyweight champ of the year; Boxer.

Those voting for approval were
Joe Biden (no surprise there)

Bill Nelson
Barack Obama
Sarbanes, Dodd, and (especially) Obama are the big disappointments here.

Singer Curses at Inaugural Youth Concert
By LEIGH STROPE, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - You might say the Janet Jackson moment of President Bush's inaugural festivities came Tuesday at a youth concert with hundreds of preteen Hilary Duff fans in the audience.
No nudity was involved, but the Vince Neil-style profanity probably didn't win rock band Fuel any fans at the Federal Communications Commission, nor from the parents at the concert. Now the Pennsylvania band is just hoping the concert, "America's Future Rocks Today," wasn't aired live.
Borrowing a word from Motley Crue's Neil, the lead singer of Fuel proclaimed, "Welcome to the greatest ----ing country in the world." Brett Scallions followed with a quick apology of "excuse my language."
The outburst was one of the most interesting moments of Tuesday's concert, hosted by Bush twins Jenna and Barbara, who were in the audience but did not come on stage.
Duff was the headliner at the half-full, D.C. Armory concert, which paid tribute to youth volunteerism and community service. Duff, who performed in a black sequin top, rolled-up jeans and sneakers, warmed up the crowd for the president and first lady Laura Bush.
"My call to you all is that as you enjoy the great freedoms of America and as you enjoy yourself at this inauguration, I hope you take away the lesson of helping somebody in need," said Bush, who arrived toward the end of the concert after Scallions' remark. "And when you do, it will not only make our country a better place, it will lift up your own spirit."
(I think I'll PUKE now!)
Other performers included 2003 "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard, pop singer JoJo and the band, 3 Doors Down. Also appearing were former football player Jason Sehorn, actor Stephen Baldwin, who rode a skateboard onto the stage, and "Access Hollywood's" Nancy O'Dell, who co-hosts the entertainment show with Billy Bush, whose father, Jonathan, is the brother of former President George H.W. Bush.
A crowd favorite, besides Duff, was singer-songwriter Ryan Cabrera, a Dallas native who whipped up the audience with his jams on the guitar and the drums. Cabrera, 20, said his last trip to Washington was in the seventh grade on a field trip. "I lost my contact lens in the Capitol," he told the audience, urging them to keep an eye out for it.

Well, even Zarqawi claims they are close now, what is at odds is whether they were before the war, or only well into the occupation.
The most informed sources I've seen seem to indicate that Zarqawi's group was a rival to al-Qaeda but with very similar ideology.

Why should there be nothing to gain?
Don't most Senators have campaign committees open continuously for donations, either retiring debt from the last campaign or gearing up for the next?
Why not send a small donation whenever a Senator does something that inspires you? Its a thought -- if enough people did it, there would be concrete instant reinforcement of "good behavior".

It is ridiculous to rake someone over the colas for their screwups & then reward them. How can Biden or any of the others think that they can be taken seriously?
What is the point of advise & consent if the senators are going to vote for any Joe Blow Bush throws up because the president deserves the people he wants? If that is so, why did so many
senators vote against John Tower? Against Ashcroft? I don't remember republicans following all over themselves to assure Clinton he could have whomever he wanted.
I don't get the logic of voting against ashcroft but voting for Rice & Gonzales. The no voters thought Ascroft would be bad & he was. Good for them to have voted no. They were vindicated.
However, on a scale of incompetence, truthfulness & upholding the Constitution & American values, Ascroft has been way less bad than
Gonzales or Rice has been. In fact, he was kept out of the loop on some of this torture thing. In the case of Rice & Gonzales, it's not only that they can think they will be bad, they know they are bad. They have records of incompetence & mendacity. They haven't even pretended to promise to do better. Even if they did promise, they's only break it.
For God's sake why can't they think of the American people for once instead of their career & their comfort zone at beltway functions?
Ascroft has a nasty personality & he has been personally uncivil to many of them. That's why they could vote no. They don't like him personally. Even though, Gonzales has enthousiastically advocated killing people without due process & bent over backwards to justify torture & Rice ignored 9/11 warning signs & lied about it & lied to promote the Iraq war & failed to do anything to deal with Iraq once she was put in charge (ditto with Israel/Palestine) they are slick, suave & socially savvy. They know how to suck up to these senators. They feel comfortable sharing a meal or a tennis game with them so they won't vote no.
I've been apopleptic over Gonzales & Chertoff, but I've come to believe that Rice is the worst of all. It's bad enough that she has never been able to read anything that was vital to her job, let alone "unstick" anything she was put in charge of, but as a human being, she can't even morally denounce torture. She & the Chinese are going to get along thick as thieves.

It's like they're afraid of looking like bad sports. Except the Thugs are playing a bloodsport. I wish they'd fucking wake up and realize that this is IT. The time to stand up is now. Maybe they're looking to secure themselves a spot in the one-party government of the future, I don't know. All I know is that I'm making my decision in about six months as to whether I'll be re-registering as an independent.

You guys don't mind if I do a little blogwhoring here do you? Cavalcade of Canucks. A weekly round-up of leftwing and centrist bloggers in Canada.
I'm curious as to why there aren't more leftwing blog round-ups being done. The right whingers have one for just about everything but as far as I know, mine is the only leftwing round-up.
I'm also curious as to why the leftwing bloggers in the US consistently fail to utilize the work being done by leftwing bloggers all over the world. Except for the occasional link to Riverbend, the left around the world is ignored by you Democrats. We have right whingers in Canada too for instance, and they're flogging the same bullshit as your right whingers are. You might take notice that the right whingers in the US are always linking to other right whingers around the world to flog their crap.
Anyways, carry on.

Fed up. I'm not defending Ashcroft. Those senators who voted no were right to do so. They should vote no for Rice/Gonzales as well, but they won't.
Idiots like Biden think if they talk tough that is the same thing as being tough. Not true. He's not fooling anyone but himself.

Does anyone have the list of those Worthless Dems who voted for Condi? Not that it'll do any good, but maybe we should flood their offices with letters, phone calls, etc., and let them nkow how badly they've fucked up.

Robert McClelland,
Sorry that we seem so self-absorbed, but there's this little balance-of-power crisis we're dealing with right now in this country. Kind of hard to concentrate on the bigger picture when one of your hands is trying to cut the other off with a rusty hacksaw.
Cheers.

I feel like I should be swooning or something... yes?
I missed most of the thread, so here's some extemperaneous e-political masturbation on my part.
One thing I heard Biden say that just blew my JiffyPop was, "The experience hasn't been good, your answers in this hearing haven't been good - but I'm going to go with hope over experience" or some such thing.
WTF?!? That's the kind of logic that keeps a person in Congress? Lord, I just may run in 2006 - who wants to be a campaign advisor?

I guess it wasn't so much a slam at Catholics as it was aimed at fellow Democrats. he said "I am a practicing Catholic and I don't know what happened to other Democrats" WTF was that about? Are the rest fo them, God Forbid! practicing Methodists, or Lutherans or pagans or what?

All the more reason to fully utilize the left-wing power base that exists throughout the world. The reason you're getting your ass handed to you is because the right-wing noise machine drowns you out. The solution to that is to form a left-wing noise machine. And believe me, if you marshall the left-wing voices all across the world, they'll dwarf the right-wing noise machine.

Jeff Greenfield, on CNN, just repeated the canard that John Kerry said "Who among us doesn't love NASCAR."
Kerry never said this and if Greenfield doesn't know that by now he should be fired as an incompetent.
Beloved of whom? He lost all credibility when he became the Two Million Dollar Man.
Whoa. That didn't take long.
I'm disappointed in Obama... it looks like he's decided to pursue the traditional senatorial "go along to get along" model, highly recommended by and for those who intend to be enbalmed in office.
And that's too bad. He could have acted like a leader right from the get-go, which is what his rhetoric (and writing) might have led us to expect.
But I guess I give him a pass on this one on the basis that when you're the new kid you need to pick your first fights carefully.
But he better have something else in mind that shows some gumption, and right quick.

When Bush's social security fiasco goes down in flames, will this fact then put the whole bullshit "ownership society" nonsense into the critical spotlight too? Isn't this SS issue related to Bush's "ownership society" crap?
OWNERSHIP SOCIETY!? My God, if there is one thing America already definately is... it's this. Our fucking culture revolves around ownership.
I hate that phrase.
