I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

frist?

Frist?!?

Oh goodness - what will I say?

Damn. Oh well.

GravatarOh boy the right is wrong

http://www.acsblog.org/bill-of-r...e- founders.html

The Treaty of Barbary was unanimously approved by the Senate and signed by President John Adams in 1797. It contains the following article:

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

GravatarEurgh, enough about Frist. Specially when it's kittyblogging day.

GravatarHave fun in the Big Apple. I keep wanting to get up there and see Wicked.

GravatarGot a reply back from my hometown paper's managing editor re Maggie Gallagher. Says they are still reviewing her HHS contract and will be publishing her apology/explanation on Sunday's editorial page.

Well, at least he answered my e-mail. Will have to follow up next week.

GravatarBut I like Fristing.

GravatarSo, we are doing the mandated state test in my classroom (in this case the MEAP - Michigan Educational Assessment Program.) I eschewed the usual sign and posted this instead:

Disturbed
Do Not
TEST

(I personally blame Bush)

GravatarBut I like Fristing.

GravatarSince "thin slicing" is the hip buzword of the day, how about we thin slice Dubya?

I suggest the infamous 7 minutes in the schoolroom as the time slice to examine.

GravatarLovely lovely kitties, Mr. Atrios. Thanks for posting them early.

GravatarKaus,

How many Bushes does it take to shingle a roof?

Only one, but you have to slice him real thin!

GravatarNo cats?

I'm a bit baffled here. Help.

Gravatarit is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Left off the codicil: "until they discover oil under the Mahometan nations. Then all bets are off. See: Americans, Native."

USAF playing cat and mouse game over Iran
By Richard Sale
UPI Intelligence Correspondent
Published January 26, 2005

NEW YORK -- The U.S. Air Force is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Iran's ayatollahs, flying American combat aircraft into Iranian airspace in an attempt to lure Tehran into turning on air defense radars, thus allowing U.S. pilots to grid the system for use in future targeting data, administration officials said.

"We have to know which targets to attack and how to attack them," said one, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The flights, which have been going on for weeks, are being launched from sites in Afghanistan and Iraq and are part of Bush administration attempts collect badly needed intelligence on Iran's possible nuclear weapons development sites, these sources said, speaking on condition of strict anonymity.

"These Iranian air defense positions are not just being observed, they're being 'templated,'" an administration official said, explaining that the flights are part of a U.S. effort to develop "an electronic order of battle for Iran" in case of actual conflict.

In the event of an actual clash, Iran's air defense radars would be targeted for destruction by air-fired U.S. anti-radiation or ARM missiles, he said.

A serving U.S. intelligence official added: "You need to know what proportion of your initial air strikes are going to have to be devoted to air defense suppression."

(There's more)

GravatarI don't see the kitties either. Refreshed from the weekly archive too. Bummer.

GravatarHere's our fearless leader

helping our troops!

GravatarIf mentioned somewhere else ,my apologies for the duplication.

Apparently O'Reilly is going to tear those of us north of the border a new one tonight in response to a program on The Fifth Estate about the screech media in the US.

Should be good for a laugh.

GravatarA serving U.S. intelligence official added: "You need to know what proportion of your initial air strikes are going to have to be devoted to air defense suppression."

"As long as we don't talk about it publicly," the official continued, "the Iranians'll never know what we're up to."

Gravatarthe kitties are there, are you not getting a picture? try the refresh button...??? ???

So, our pre-planning strategy is a combination of "Chicken" and "Two for Flinching." Marvie.

GravatarI just spoke with Michael Hill, staffer to Cantwell.,

1.He says that Cantwell really believes the following:
"I vote for Dr. Rice because I appreciate her diverse professional
background as a Professor at Stanford University specializing in Russian
affairs, her experience as National Security Advisor, and her
demonstrated understanding of world affairs and diplomacy. "

When I stated that her failure in predicting/recognizing the Soviet breakup shows how incompetent she is he stated that's only an opinion.

He also said that he could care less what bloggers did regarding this issue.

Folks, I'm copying this to other threads.

I'm declaring WAR on Cantwell, will y'all join me?

Call that little asshat staffer who could care less about bloggers/constituients and give him a tase of the blogosphere.

We can't afford to have assholes like this on "our" side.

Call: Michael Hill

Time for smackdown!

Gravatari was hoping somehow, some way, we would avoid having any sort of altercation with Iran.

GravatarThe U.S. Air Force is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Iran's ayatollahs, flying American combat aircraft into Iranian airspace..

Goddamn, I am just so pissed off at us breaking international law when it suits, I just can't stand it. My latest definition of "neocon" - somebody who couldn't give a crap whether the U.S. is good or evil as long as there's a buck to be had.

GravatarMad Cows and Americans by John Stauber
In These Times Feb. 14 (just got it)

Did you know that calves in the United States are being weaned on formula containing blood. What the hell are the idiots in charge of food safety thinking? The entire human population of the U.S. are going to be drooling and braindead if we don't get rid of those who are poisoning us with prions.

Dairy farmers, no more milk products for me.

Thank you Earl Butz and the Republicans who appointed you.

GravatarGot a reply back from my hometown paper's managing editor re Maggie Gallagher. Says they are still reviewing her HHS contract and will be publishing her apology/explanation on Sunday's editorial page.

Well, at least he answered my e-mail. Will have to follow up next week.
kyork

Gallager was on the Newshour last night and said she has nothing to apologize for. Her rationale is that she took the money but as a paid HHS advisor so she can write what she wants. She also went on and on about her being a Marriage Expert.

Gallagher has no shame. These people just don't fucking get it.

Gravatarsurfdork please email me the info. i'm gathering as much information as i can and i'm going to be spreading the addresses, phone #'s and email addresses around to others. thanks.

GravatarThe entire human population of the U.S. are going to be drooling and braindead if we don't get rid of those who are poisoning us with prions.

49% of the human population of the U.S. IS drooling and braindead.

Look who they voted for.

Gravatar"Cantwell" indeed. Irony, where is thy sting?

GravatarThe rest voted for Kerry, and 3% of the votes were stolen.

GravatarI just e-mailed you her eyes.

Cantwelll is a most apt name for her.
She is a fucking marketing BS shill. She actually claims to have created 1000 jobs and at the same tiem she votes to increase H1B etc.

I'd rather have a rethug, at least they are the devil you know.

She is able to hide behind her party while enriching herself.

GravatarThanks surfdork.

We need to have an outcry and these people need to represent US not THEIR OWN interests...

GravatarDick the picture of DC in the parka at Auschwitz remind anyone of a certain character from South Park?

"They killed Dickie, Oh, my God, you bastards!!"

Gravatarher eyes- i think if it's exposed that ss is what the neocons expect to use to enter into their third foray of the neighborhood known as "Get While the Gettins Good" then maybe joe 6pack will finally realize he's gonna be screwed.

GravatarThe U.S. Air Force is playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Iran's ayatollahs, flying American combat aircraft into Iranian airspace..

So if a fighter gets shot down in Iran, will that give Bush a Gulf of Tonkin moment?

And where is Bin Laden anyways?

Gravatarhave a good weekend everybody

if you drink, don't drive.

Gravatarwaiting. i hope they get their head out of the swill long enough to realize it.

I am always amazed at how gullible people can be, but I read some of the letters to the editor in our local newspaper here last sunday, and I was heartened to learn that every letter in the paper, every person that wrote in was opposed to this ss "reform".
so maybe there is a small ray of hope...

GravatarThanks her eyes. IMHO the Cantwell types are the worst, they suck up our support (she only won in 2K because of progressives) then turn their backs to serve their corporate masters.

She's right up there with that piece of work Landrieu.

GravatarWho does the WH blame for the Cheney wardrobe malfunction?

Don't the people who "don't want to make a big fuss about this" understand that it's their response to and handling of this issue that's important?

They have the capacity to make this a real albatross for themselves out of this, but not if frickin' DINO's give them a pass from the get-go.

Sheesh.

Gravatari hope mrs. surfdork is better soon.

Gravataryeah cos people- read repubs- won't start bitching until their wallet does.

Gravatarwhat wardrobe malfunction? they'll say. it does not compare to that blue dress stain dammit!

Gravatarit's clinton's fault chainee dressed like slob.

GravatarOh boy the right is wrong

Ian, it's not like treaties become the law of the land after ratification...

GravatarI tried posting this on the previous thread but screwed up the link:

I noticed quite a few Texans in here. My mom lives in Fort Worth. She recently made friends with a wonderful artist named JT Grant. He debuted The Blasfemous Dream of Crawford Bush just before the election.

I didn't know if anyone here had seen it.

GravatarFrench in Iraq ?

GravatarAaron:
Dude, that's funny...

Something like that'll get ya horsewhipped north of Santa Fe...

Gravatargo here to learn to do links. it is most helpful, even i learned it.

GravatarAnyone got the over/under on the election dead in Irak?

GravatarWGG,
I especially like the coat hanger shaped like a halo. He gets better reception that way.

GravatarHey Aaron, any way to get a bigger version of that? I'm wondering about some of the stuff in the background... I can make out the graveyard and the pollution-belching oil well. But some of it isn't so discernible. Nice touch with the wood blocks and toy soldiers....

GravatarI especially like the coat hanger shaped like a halo. He gets better reception that way.

As a woman, I had a slightly different take on that one...

Gravatarok, it is time to put my head in the sand for another day. I leave you with this

I know it is a long article, but the pictures are pretty funny.

Gravatarre election/ notice how bush kept making a big deal about women in afghanistan during debates and all? check out the piece by Houzan Mahmoud at commondreams.org for an update on women in iraq.

GravatarLJ,
Mind if I e-mail it to you?

GravatarThe elections in Iraq are merely another diversion by the Bushboy regime from the disaster they have wrought.

See? We're implementing democracy!

Yeah. Right.

And all the voters have to do is put their lives at risk to vote and even after the "election," the war and the insurgency will continue unabated.

GravatarAaron: Not at all. Go right ahead.

GravatarAs a woman, I had a slightly different take on that one...

I thought we'd agree the other day to say "as a Jew". Or did I misunderstand the argument with goatfucker?

GravatarFrom Oblivious Fool's suggestion on previous thread--see Homepage for a hastily-done photoshop of Dick MacKenzie. He ate the last jelly, eh?

GravatarAaron:

BTW, thanks for asking first, too. I appreciate that.

GravatarNT:

I haven't been around here much lately, so I wouldn't know any consensus had evolved.

Coathangers are pretty powerful symbols for an old abortion-rights activist like me.

GravatarI haven't been around here much lately, so I wouldn't know any consensus had evolved.

Sorry, I was just snarking. Goatdotcx (whatever the hell his name is) was getting on people's cases for saying "as a Jew" (they're bigots, or self-hating, or something) and "as a woman" struck me as the perfect retort to his inanity.

I really shouldn't blog and drink.

GravatarSenator Conrad and Representative Spratt, both Dems, who have been warning about Bushboy's fiscally irresponsible policies since 2001, showed some financial graphics today in DC that were truly frightening.

Bushboy's reckless tax cuts for the rich combined with costs for his war misadventures and the growing debt service could (conservatively according to the CBO) add $5 trillion to our national debt over the next ten years!

That's on top of the trillion of debt Bushboy has already added to the national budget situation.

And it doesn't include Bushboy's plan to borrow $200 billion/year for the next 10 ($2 Trillion) if he gets to implement his idiotic Social Security "private accounts" scam.

GravatarHATE-FILLED STUPIDITY FROM LEFT-LEANING ACADEMICS ISN'T NEWS anymore, which is why I haven't been paying much attention to the story of Colorado professor Ward Churchill's comparison of 9/11 victims to Eichmann. But go here and look at the picture.

Isn't he exactly what you imagined? Shoulder-length hair, grimly self-righteous expression, black turtleneck, Abbie Hoffman sunglasses. A man whose look, like his rhetoric, is frozen in the amber of 1969.

The same kind of guys, looking the same way, were saying the same kinds of things when I was younger than my daughter is now. When will Left catch up with the times?

UPDATE: Heh. Check out this picture. Let's do the time warp, again!

GravatarIf you take a gullible American electorate (as proven in the last election) and you add a biased and/or sycophantic mass media and you have a national government that's totally unscrupulous, you have the ingredients for the disaster we have in America today.

Bushboy lies with impugnity. The media reports Bushboy's frauds as though they are sound policy or ideas and the American public swallows what Bushboy & the media are telling them, too lazy or too apathetic to check out what they're being told.

The results: a deadly war in Iraq. Deficit and debt as far as the eye can see. A seriously debilitated Medicare system. Which has encouraged Bushboy and his greedy Goopers to now try and bring down Social Security for the benefit of their banker and brokerage friends.

GravatarUPDATE: Heh. Check out this picture. Let's do the time warp, again!

Che lives!

GravatarRMJ,
Check out Thersites' blog at

Gravatar Georgia State Legislators Have No Idea What A "Theory" Is. Ye gods...

Funny, on the Simpsons just now Mrs. Krabappel was complaing to Principal Skinner that the only books they have are the ones banned by other schools (including "The Theory of Evolution").

GravatarCoathangers are pretty powerful symbols for an old abortion-rights activist like me.
LJ

Out of curiousity, has this symbol ever been used, like on a T shirt, or sign, or did I just reinvent the wheel?

GravatarHaving grown up with television doing actual news special, it saddens me to see how far down the rabbit hole our mess media has fallen. If, indeed, they have fallen. It looks more like they rushed headlong into the place following the White Rabbit of Corporatism: but I am only a citizen, so what do I know? In an effort to let the dorks try to redeem themselves, I am going to give them a list of documentary subjects worthy of spending some of their shekels investigating:

1. Election theft. Concentrations in both Florida and Ohio. What exactly is going on in these states? We are receiving mixed messages and the truth is probably available.

2. What connection does Dick Cheney have to Halliburton and KBR and the rest? What schemes have been hatched within the unholy allegiance of government and nefarious businesses?

3. What is the truth about right wing pundits being paid by the White House under the guise of consulting fees? Again, for a decent news organization this should be relatively easy to investigate.

4.How about a personality profile of the Rush man? Three marriages, drug addiction, and constant lies and half-truths are worthy of being investigated.

5. How safe is America’s food supply? We hear rumors about feed additives such as blood, antibiotics, and other questionable substances. What is the truth?

6. Why are American corporations continuing to sell pesticides, drugs, and other banned subjects in third world countries?

7. How questionable are the ethics of the SCOTUS? Between Clarence Thomas’s gifts and the favors delivered to Scalia, there seems to be plenty to investigate.

8. How about an accurate assessment of what exactly is happening in Iraq? While bloggers and frequenters of the web have Riverbend and Juan Cole to read: the rest of the world is left with Pollyanna reportage. If the situation is good, let us see. If the situation is as bad as we suspect: we need to know that as well.

9. The nexus of fundamental religion and politics needs to be thoroughly investigated. If churches are actively pursuing a political agenda, why are they receiving tax exempt status reserved for non-political entities?

10. Why are senior analysts abandoning the CIA and other governmental intelligence organizations? What are their reasons.? America would be better served by someone giving us some straight information.

11? Well, why isn’t the news media investigating itself for the death and destruction caused by an insane war that they actively encouraged? (I really do not expect them to act on this one.)

Gravatar(I'd do the link, but Thers caught me strep and is asleep and I can never remember the codes.)

Give him my wishes for a speedy recovery, please. (And take some for yourself, if you're not over it.)

GravatarLast night I dreamed that I saw this on TV: a short clip or infomercial or something featuring a few famous Democrat Congresspeople gambling somewhere—Atlantic City or maybe it was a cruise ship—playing the slots and losing, while gamely explaining how they’re not going to let President Bush GAMBLE AWAY our social security. Someone should make this, it would be fun and effective.

GravatarNYMary:
I hope you and Thers feel better
soon..

GravatarEvening, freethinkers

GravatarI'm getting more angry about Margaret Spelling feathering her nest at the expense of children of lesbians. It's time for everyone with a "moderate" Repulican congressman or senator to light a fire under his or her hypocritical ass and demand an explaination why they voted to confirm this frosted phony bigot. And while we're at it make them defend their other votes, the one for Condiliar Rice and the one they'll cast for Gonzales.

This is a war. They'll use children to fight it if we don't stop them in the beginning. Margaret Spelling, you are a piece of slime.

Gravatar"Apparently O'Reilly is going to tear those of us north of the border a new one tonight in response to a program on The Fifth Estate about the screech media in the US."

That didn't take long. Fifth Estate struck a raw nerve, eh? I think we should jump on that same raw nerve again quickly. What else can Fifth Estate import north of the border that will raise the ire of the wingnuts? Strike while the iron is hot, I say.

GravatarMoronic Tales from Academia!

GravatarIt has been reported that Ann Coulter appeared on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation news program called The Fifth Estate. On the show, Coulter recalled the good old days when Canada used to be ally of the United States and sent its military to Vietnam alongside the U.S. troops. When the host of the program tried to inform Coulter that Canada had never sent Canadian troops to Vietnam, Coulter insisted that the Canadian was wrong. The person from Canada was right, Canada had never sent its military to Vietnam. Some of its citizens did join various branches of the U.S. military but no Canadians had ever been in Vietnam who had worn a Canadian military uniform. Coulter said that she would get back to the Canadian station but of course she hasn't done so. I do wish the Dish Network would carry the CBC so I could see some rare intelligent news programming on television.

GravatarBushboy's regime used $88 million in the past 4 years to have government agencies and/or media people propagandize their programs.

Bushboy's pr chief, Ken Mehlman, is calling on Goopers to donate money to them so they can "get their message out" past what he calls, "the liberal media filter."

I kid you not.

GravatarJust a remark. It's annoying when trolls take the names of respected Eschaton posters and put up crap under their names. I'm sorry to see that RMJ is among the latest victims.

GravatarSaw some posts recently on AG nominee (Josh, New Donkey), counter argument was torture might be OK if we're faced with a "dirty bomb":

"I don't think it would kill anybody," says Dr Theodore Rockwell, an authority on radiation, in an interview for the series. "You'll have trouble finding a serious report that would claim otherwise." The American department of energy, Rockwell continues, has simulated a dirty bomb explosion, "and they calculated that the most exposed individual would get a fairly high dose [of radiation], not life-threatening." And even this minor threat is open to question. The test assumed that no one fled the explosion for one year.

article:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/ terror...1327904,00.html

reminds me of the pirates in 'Amazon Women on the Moon" movie: "OOOOOoohhh... I'm sooooo scared!"

dirty bomb propaganda is just a reason to keep Padilla away from the rest of the world so the administration can't be fingered.

thanks, that felt good.

ELMO

GravatarHas anyone else been getting postcards in response to letters to their reps? I've gotten two recently from Sue Kelly (R - NY 19); the most recent was in response to a letter I wrote about the Republicans' rule change that would allow their leadership to stay in power after indictment but before conviction.

There was one other postcard I got, also recently, though I don't remember what the issue was.

I think they're signs that Kelly, at least, is getting a LOT of mail on this particular issue, to the point where it makes sense to send a postcard with the preprinted answer rather than the form letter.

I can only think we're starting to get to her, and that's a good thing.

GravatarGuess who's first cousins with Condi? hysterical! (maybe not safe for work, but worth it)

Vaginal Creme Davis--more on her here

So here it is, la familia "T" for all the world to know: Condolezi Rice is my cousin, and actually she’s my first cousin. Until she got involved with the president she was basically a non sexual dyke. Wound too tight and way too brittle, more so than any brittle blonde i know. Thats why she's remained a lesbian virgen, but she is definitely bumping bush with Mr. Dub.

GravatarPlease forgive me, but I haven't read a single post here, but this is supoosed to be an open thread and so all I want to say is that I'm listening to "Who's Next" and motherfuck do I miss Keith Moon.
