I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Gravatar"Liberal" in this case means five inches to the left of Attilla the Hun.

Oh, and FUCK BUSH!

GravatarCan YOU say "fascist fucks"?

KNEW you COULD!

(Paraphrasing the late, great Fred Rogers)

GravatarBut, but it's the liberal media.

GravatarI like saying Heginbotham.

Now take off your shoes.

GravatarMM is doing really great work. Let's face it. There are no liberals on MSM. What we think of as liberal today is really just sort of a centrist, reasonable, Republican position. That is because the conservatives have pulled the dialog so far to the right that they've "moved" the center. How did they do that? By being outrageously conservative. Remember that the next time someone suggests Democrats would be well-advised to move to the "center."

GravatarYeah Viacom, Inc. is a front for liberal atheist commie hippies just like General Electric, Inc. Disney, Inc. and AOLTimeWarner, Inc.

GravatarCBS = Conservative BullShit?

GravatarLooks like it's a good day to drink beer and fart till I pass out.

GravatarMM is doing really great work.

heeeeey.....I just realized I haven't been getting my MM emails for a while, none this week for sure. How did that happen?

Gravatarcentrist, reasonable, Republican position

please identify the "centrist, reasonable Republicans" I don't know of any.

Oh yeah, I forgot: FUCK BUSH.

GravatarOne sure way to become a conservative is to age thirty years without changing any of your views. (Paraphrasing R A Wilson)
i.e. Change with the world, or become outdated.

Now take off your shoes.

Gravatar"centrist, reasonable Republicans"

bwaahahaaaahahahahahahaha!! Oh, man, that's a good one.

GravatarNow take off your shoes.
already done. i hate 'em and wouldn't wear any if i didn't have to. and i prefer throwing chairs.

GravatarNow take off your shoes.

I can't--I cut the soles out of them so's I could sit in a tree and learn how to play the flute.

Are you Joe Beats?

GravatarOT, but not really. Can we all agree that CNN (Cracker News Network) has offically jumped a school of sharks to become "Worse than Fox"tm.
Who is the worst broadcaster on CNN-Daryn, Rick, Kyra, or Miles? I'd say it's a toss up with a slight edge to Kyra. Who will ever forget her plaintive question about the armless little boy in Iraq-"but did he mention Operation Iraqi Freedom?"
Watching her aw shucks Okie from Muskogee interview with Richard Petty just now, made me hurl my Lean Cuisine. Apparently little Kyra is really upset that hard "likers" can sponsor NASCAR drivers!
Keeerist.

GravatarOn Negroponte 95 Balt. Sun story.

this site had interesting links and comments. Fuck Bush

and did i also see over at media matters that Limpnuts had called Katrina vanden Heuvel a communist?

It's Happening.

Gravatarby "liberal" you mean they don't make components for nuclear weapons, like Peter Jenning's employer? not sure what you mean by liberal here?

GravatarIf you look at CBS from the EXTREME rightwing (like Freeperville and LGFreak world), then CBS is a liberal playground. If you look at it from the middle or left of center, then it is conservative/right wing, though not as radical as Faux News. It's all relative, don't you know.

Gravatarhotbobschiefferstud.com

GravatarIf it wasn't CBS, it'd be one of the others. Corporate Non News insults us all by proferring Wolf Blitzer (it hurts me as much to type as you to read) and Woodruff and Daryn as something to be taken at all seriously. They have had it in for Rather for a long time, though. Remember the hemorrhoid story? Standin' Dan?

GravatarIf you look at CBS from the EXTREME rightwing (like Freeperville and LGFreak world), then CBS is a liberal playground.

True that. And you know what's just as scary? See the recent "Hannity v. the Freepi" post. They think Hannity's Gone Over to the Dark Side.

I'm glad I get to see all this. I hope I survive.

GravatarIt's a great list, but it's not exactly news at this point.

Hecate

word, goddess...

I've been paying attention for just over 40 years. There is just about ZERO relation between the 'left' of my youth and even the most progressive (public) voices today...

Nobody with influence on the 'new left' is opposing the war in Iraq. Everybody seems to be willing to countenance some continuation under some conditions...

and we don't want even to THINK about the economy...civil rights? social programs (cuz in this economic system, there can't be winners without losers)...the big roll-back...

have i mentioned in this thread how much i utterly detest, hate, and abominate these fucking goons?

GravatarNow take off your shoes.

Do you have a good arm? Is your aim true? Is Richard Perle in the same room?

although my arm is good and i aim pretty well, i was wearing boots the day i was in the same room as feith. and the chairs were bolted to the floor, so i had to settle for heckling and derisive laughter.

GravatarAnd that bridge won't be built until free hands on both sides of the big ditch can push the same button at the same time . . . .

Organ Leroy, at his organ again

GravatarDan Rather was, once, a real journalist - he actually said bad things about Republican presidents. Therefore, CBS is a bastion of liberal, commie, America-hating scum.

CNN, OTOH, is just plain pathetic. I'd love to hear the conversations between whatever passes for their business plannners and the finance people. Someone there has to have enough brains to know how incredibly bad their business model is. But they'd rather be Faux-lite than go after the underserved audience.

GravatarHecate - Let's face it. There are no liberals on MSM. What we think of as liberal today is really just sort of a centrist, reasonable, Republican position.

I think you just described the present state of Public Broadcasting. A sort of a centrist, reasonable Republican position.

GravatarHarrison - The Freepers eat anyone who turns the slightest bit leftward on any single issue. They have no tolerance for debate or perceived 'waffling' on their talking points. It is so sad really. But it is a wekaness we must exploit.

I've said it before, they have several schisms building we should exploit. They have (somewhat) rational evolutionists vs Jeebo-creationists. They have True Conservatives vs Zany Libertarians. And there are more. They are not a solid coalition at all, except in their hatred of all things leftwing.

Gravatar'Be you ghost or goat, or ghost of goat or both...'

GravatarI say we do away with the news (cough-Bullshit!) and have SOS Rice perform piano recitals for us. That was one of her major qualifications for position as stated by most Republicans and the Democrats support the arts!

GravatarHow do you like this Bullshit?

Yep, we have freedom of speech so long as we parrot right wing garbage and don't think or question.

"Move America FORWARD" - what a fucking joke!

I wonder how many of the uber-patriots in this story SHOULD be in Iraq, but aren't!
---------------------------------
ON THE HOME FRONT
New hanging effigy: Bush lied, I died
California residence becomes ground zero for protests

A California couple who created a national uproar last week by hanging in effigy a U.S. soldier on its home with the message "Your Tax Dollars at Work" now has a new message with the hanging uniform: "Bush Lied. I Died."

In reaction to the latest message, Move America Forward, the national organization that supports American troops and the war against terrorism, has announced it will hold a candlelight vigil tomorrow night at the Sacramento home of Steve and Virginia Pearcy.

The three-hour vigil, slated to begin at 7 p.m., is designed to show support for U.S. troops and "register our opposition and disgust with the hateful 'soldier hanged in effigy' display."

"Move America Forward supports the right of free speech," a statement from the group said. "However, the right to speak freely does not mean all words or sentiments should be warmly embraced. The hateful messages that undermine our troops should be treated the same as the hate that spews from the likes of KKK members – we must step forward and make it clear that these voices of hate do not speak for our greater community, and that we will reject them through peaceful assemblies of the community."

Iraqi and Palestinian flags are also being displayed in the windows of the home.

The Pearcy family released a statement to the media in connection with its original effigy, which eventually was torn down by an individual who scaled a tree on the property.

"There will always be people who are offended by political speech, and the most important forum of all ... is one's own residence," the statement said. "The First Amendment is meaningless unless dissent is allowed."

The display has been a source of contention among neighbors who live on Marty Way.

"I'm outraged," neighbor Marque Cohen told the Sacramento Bee. "We have our men and women in uniform that are dying to protect our rights and I think it's a disgrace that somebody would be allowed to hang a U.S. soldier in effigy in front of their house."

GravatarOops. Didn't mean to set off a FireSign mudslide.

I yield to the chair. Uh, to the person wielding the chair!

He is also very upset that bloggers don't have editors or fact checkers. I detest that worm. He has a lot of nerve. He rarely gets anything right.

Gravatarand I think it's a disgrace that somebody would be allowed to hang a U.S. soldier in effigy in front of their house."

Yes. The First Amendment is a "disgrace." And no one should be "allowed" to just put whatever they want on their own damn house! The power of the government should extend to house decoration. And these people rail against "Big Govmint."

Honestly, the people saying things like this are Un-American. There's no other way to put it.

GravatarThey have had it in for Rather for a long time,

Yes. Remember the whole "Kenneth, what's the frequency?" business from a dozen or fifteen years ago?

He also caught a lot of Rethug hate during Watergate, when Nixon made a snarky comment to him at a professional association dinner for journos or publishers or some such and Rather responded in kind.

They've had him in their sights for years.

As for what Tena said about PBS, in retrospect the handwriting was on the wall when LBJ failed to get the independent funding (an excise tax on televisions, IIRC) when the CPB was set up in '67. The Nixon admin went after them with a vengeance for airing programs criticizing his policies.

GravatarShoe throwing should become a new fad. I say lets pelt some wingers with wingtips.

Gravatarbigvic - "He is also very upset that bloggers don't have editors or fact checkers." I don't understand. Half the people here are either editors or fact checkers. I suspect we have the entire pool available working the lefty blogs, just to keep their hands in.

Scotty can leave the WH without an escort and get some on the side. So can Karl. There is only one person in the WH that would require a hooker coming to him instead him going to the hooker. Hints: he travels in a motorcade and has publically displayed an affection for bald heads.

GravatarI prefer to Lick Bush.

GravatarIn reaction to the latest message, Move America Forward, the national organization that supports American troops and the war against terrorism,

GravatarCBS going the way of NBC. IN Roves pocket.
Brian Lamb has always been fairly convervative, but now he has gone completely over to the dark side.
Notice his guest list over the last year. Far out RAT Wingers with a weak ass Alan Combs type on the left.

GravatarHe is also very upset that bloggers don't have editors or fact checkers.

Shows what an idiot Howie the Putz is, bigvic. In the blogosphere, the editors and factcheckers are other bloggers and commenters. If a blogger gets something wrong, there are plenty of other bloggers, especially on the other side of the political divide, who are happy to point out the error.

Damnable thing, that freedom of speech!

GravatarShoe throwing should become a new fad. I say lets pelt some wingers with wingtips.

Or flip-flops. They're cheap, come off your foot easily, and I'd like to throw them at wingers after the last election.

GravatarNauseating how CBS has been ignoring the Gannon story. They're just waiting for Rather to retire and replace him with a true-blue winger, as NBC did with the pompous blowhard Williams.

GravatarIn reaction to the latest message, Move America Forward, the national organization that supports American troops and the war against terrorism,

heh! But not a word from them how Bush is trying to screw the soldier POW's from Iraq War I, right? Am I right? hunh! thought so.

GravatarI don't believe for a minute that Chimpy and Gannon "did" anything.

But if they did, and details of ANY kind became known (and believed), it would be the Schadenfreude All You Can Eat Buffet of the millenium.

GravatarI only wish there was/is more to the Gannongate storyline. Presidents are always savaged during their second term. Nixon, Reagan, Clinton. We just have to find the Chimperor's "Monica-gate."

I'm only dreaming here, but if it involved gay sex, I might have to take another look at religion. Because nothing that perfect just happens right when you need it.

GravatarGWPDA,

I wanted to leap through my TV and punch Howie in the nose. So sanctimonious and smug. He could use a fact checker, for real.

GravatarUpdate on EPT via Digby:

I just talked to EPT's brother and it isn't as bad as they thought. He's still very sick but they think he's going to recover.

His brother says to thank people for their good wishes. He will pass them on. EPT has only told his brother and me who he is so he probably would rather remain anonymous. His brother said that if he would like to be able to tell him that people are using a word he invented, cabloid. He used it for the cable news stations and asked his brother last week if he had heard anyone use it yet. He thinks that would make his day.

I will let you know if there is any more news.
Ragnarsson | 02.18.05 - 2:27 pm |

Sorry to repeat if anyone has already posted this; I left a message at Digby's place yesterday and have been checking sporadically. Good news.

Gravatar[Kurtz] is also very upset that bloggers don't have editors or fact checkers.

So why's he such a fuckup then?

Seriously: I don't think people dumber than me should be diddling with our public discourse. Lest you think that megalomaniacal, I assure you: given my sense of self, that's not a high standard at all. Which is why I'm continuously appalled that the Times and the Post and the Star-Ledger can't even come close to meeting it.

GravatarSo when are we going to start seeing this kind of thing here -- only about any publications that dare to question anything?

BEIJING : Foreign newspapers have been given the green light to print in China but they will not be allowed to circulate on the domestic market.

"Foreign newspapers can be printed in China, but all should be exported," Zhu Weifeng, an official with the State Press and Publication Administration (SPPA) told the China Business Weekly.

This "means they are made for export for an international market, so not one copy should be left to enter the Chinese market ... the circulation of overseas newspapers will remain forbidden in China, in the near future."

GravatarFeb. 15, 2005:

Limbaugh: "We don't retract anything we do here because we never lie and make things up on this program"

O'Reilly: "No lies have been told about anyone ... and you can't produce one, madam"

I sure picked the wrong week to give up sniffing glue.

Gravatar"We have our men and women in uniform that are dying to protect our rights and I think it's a disgrace that somebody would be allowed to hang a U.S. soldier in effigy in front of their house."

Nationalism... hmm...

and just how fuck'n stupid can these people be?

i've considered hang'n my flag upside down in the front yard, but then i considered again.

however, i did flip off 3 drivers with W signs in their windows. i guess we all want to express ourselves.

GravatarI wish someone could explain how anybody in Iraq is fighting or dying for our rights. I am not in any denigrating the people who are there or the sacrifices they and their families are making. I just don't see how anyone here's "rights" depend on anything that happens there.

GravatarAlso seen at Media Matters:

Limbaugh: "We don't retract anything we do here because we never lie and make things up on this program"

Gingrich falsely claimed that Republican senators never "systematically tried to obstruct" Clinton judicial nominees

Proof positive, as if more were needed, that they just don't care if they get caught lying or not.

GravatarFrom *gannon-gate central:
A note about outing gay reporters
I just did a segment on CNN with Howard Kurtz for his "Reliable Sources" show that runs this coming Sunday, and another guy on the show was this John fellow with Powerline blog, or something like that. He decided to attack me for "gay-baiting," which I always find a fun charge coming from a right-wing Republican. Oh that the GOP was as concerned about gay-baiting in every other aspect of life as they are in the Gannon case.
...
A Canadian-born correspondent for ABC News is the reported target of a White House smear campaign after broadcasting a story on plummeting U.S. troop morale in Iraq, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Published reports suggest the Bush administration retaliated by notifying Internet news sites and other media outlets that Jeffrey Kofman is not only Canadian but also an openly "gay" man.

A headline on Matt Drudge's website Wednesday evening read: ''ABC News correspondent who filed troop complaints story is openly gay, Canadian.''

GravatarHow many times has Noam Chomsky been on CBS? They are so unliberal that one day Michelle Malkin will appear all moderate on one of their shows. This is true more generally as well. I have known some real Stalinists and they are a very different fish from us liberals. For example, I don't keep lists on who to execute after the revolution. But in the Malkin-world we are all communists.

GravatarHeard that "soldiers hung in effigy" story on the local radio news last weekend... the thing about it is, they aren't really "hanging" the soldiers in effigy, in the way I understand the practice. What they were actually doing was calling attention to the fact that soldiers were being killed needlessly.

Of course, then the moronic brownshirt fucks in Sacramento have to come to terms with their own complicity, and take it from me, those are some of the biggest yahoos around.

GravatarIt's all fucking hopeless. We have no free media to speck of anymore. No newspapers, television, radio....nothing.

Perhaps, its a republican ploy to make them so irrelivant that no one will pay any serious attention to them, unless they like being told what to believe as the true. There's 51% of the voting public that falls into that category.

The First Amendmant is gonna die a silent death by the mid-term elections.

They could insist children be taught to read! They could demand equal pay for equal work! The right to vote and have their vote counted! And then, after prolonged group taunting highlighted by a refusal to admit people convicted of DUI, the Canadians could simply change languages and run away! My God the horror of it all.

It is reminiscent of communist blather in which every possible thing that could happen is explained by the historical dialectic. None of this twaddle should pass for discourse among serious people. Everything that happens fits neatly into conservatoid world view. All of reality, they think.

GravatarI typed up my LtE an hour ago and sent it off into the atmosphere. Just got a call from my local paper to confirm I wrote it and they will publish it. Probably won't be until Wed because we have local elections going on right now and voting on this coming tuesday.

I included fake reporters, paid journalists, etc. My line re Gannon went thus "Now a fake reporter (and alleged prostitute w/porn website) employed by a fake news organization run by supporters of Bush has been unmasked attending daily WH press briefings." I willfully chose not to identify the sex as I thought it would have more impact locally.

Not too surprised w/rapid response because I have been having e-mail with head man for last few weeks.

Gravatar
i've considered hang'n my flag upside down in the front yard, but then i considered again.

Here's something you can do:

Buy the American flag postage stamps and stick them on the envelope upside-down.

Also, you could fly the Gadsden Flag instead of the Stars & Stripes.

And how funny is it to see Media Matters placing Juan Cole under "Neutral Commentary"?

Forget flannel. What about 'eh'? That utterance needs to be forever banished - its just not American.

And universal health insurance? Its a sign of the end times!!

Oh wait - that's good, right?

Gravatardave,

"...that they just don't care if they get caught lying or not."

What really has me concerned is that they are so eaten up with their hubris that everything the Constitution stands for is irrevalent to their Party ambitions.

The Founding Fathers established the system of checks and balances to ensure that no one political party could run roughshod over the Constitution. Seems the republican have been working on this plan for a number of years. With Bush's re-election, it's no holds barred and the checks and balances are no longer in place.

With the aged Supreme Court that is already leaning to the right, any slightest tip in that balance and Democracy in our Republic will cease to exist. The lessons of Hitler are bearing fruition with the republicans.

We may not make it to the mid-term elections before they do something that makes it obsolete. It'll be like the Soviet Union...you can vote for anyone you wish. It doesn't really matter who you select, they're all in the same party.

regards

GravatarHey DWD, remember the "Department of Redundancy Department"?

And the Church of The Erroneous Assumption.....

GravatarOT (Cont'd Discussion on PBS with Tena & Chicago Dyke (CD):

Granted that PBS has been pulled away from its liberal orientation toward a very slightly left of center orientation (only PBS, among the major media outlets does segments on the plight of the poor, faults in the healthcare system, serious reports on the environment etc.), but this occurred because of its financial difficulties caused by a Repub Congress sharply cutting back on its funding.

The right systematically goes after particular institutions that are left of center with the aim of bringing about their demise or getting them to shift more in their direction. Groups they have targeted, in a campaign spanning decades, include: unions, lawyer groups that represent middle class & poor populations, Hollywood, centrist to left of center media outlets & teachers. Their successful campaigns have led to the significant weakening of the power of these groups.

Liberals are generally unaware that this is a deliberate, systematic campaign to destroy the power base of liberals. The media war of the right has led to the intimidation of the major media news outlets - CBS, NBC & ABC, the shift of CNN from centrist to FOX lite, the inihibitions of PBS from seeming to appear too liberal.

GravatarInteresting column at CBS.com:

...when Jeff Gannon, White House "reporter" for Talon "News," was unmasked last week, the leap to a possible Rove connection was unavoidable. Gannon says that he met Rove only once, at a White House Christmas party, and Gannon is kind of small potatoes for Rove at this point in his career.

But Rove's dominance of White House and Republican politics, Gannon's aggressively partisan work and the ease with which he got day passes for the White House press room the past two years make it hard to believe that he wasn't at least implicitly sanctioned by the "boy genius." Rove, who rarely gave on-the-record interviews to the MSM (mainstream media), had time to talk to GOPUSA, which owns Talon.

GOPUSA and Talon are both owned by Bobby Eberle, a Texas Republican and business associate of conservative direct-mail guru Bruce Eberle who says that Bobby is from the "Texas branch of the Eberle clan." Bobby Eberle told The New York Times that he created Talon to build a news service with a conservative slant and "if someone were to see 'Gopusa,' there's an instant built-in bias there." No kidding.

Some of the real reporters in the WH pressroom were apparently annoyed at Gannon's presence and his softball, partisan questions, but considered him only a minor irritant. One told me he thought of Gannon as a balance for the opinionated liberal questions of Hearst's Helen Thomas. But what Gannon was up to was not just writing opinion columns or using a different technique to get information. He was a player in Republican campaigns and his work in the South Dakota Senate race illustrates the role he played. It is also a classic example of how political operatives are using the brave new world of the Internet and the blogosphere. Gannon and Talon News appear to be mini-Drudge reports; a "news" source which partisans use to put out negative information, get the attention of the bloggers, talk radio and then the MSM in a way that mere press releases are unable to achieve.

One of Gannon's first projects was an attempt to discredit the South Dakota Argus Leader, South Dakota's major paper, and its longtime political writer, David Kranz. According to the National Journal, which reported on this last November, Gannon wrote a series of articles in the summer of 2003 alleging that Kranz, who went to college with Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle, was not only sympathetic to him but was an actual part of the Daschle campaign. These articles then got a huge amount of play on the blogs of John Lauck and Jason Van Beek, and were picked up by other conservative sites and talk radio. The paper was bombarded with messages about its bias and acknowledges that these had an impact on its coverage.

Daschle opponent John Thune's campaign manager was Dick Wadham, an old political crony of Karl Rove's; the kind of pal Rove could ask to hir

Gravatarbigvic,

Holden is the rodney dangerfield of blogging.

I mean that in a good way.

GravatarListen, there are more than enough jackasses in Canada to satisfy the administration - but they tend to want to remain Canadian and that's just outrageous.

Btw, the appalling Dodgson crew is attempting to strongarm Canadians into 'pressuring' their MPs into opposing same sex marriage. It's actually kind of funny as a project - it reminds me vividly of how the Texas oil companies went around signing up Alberta oil rights, using Texas leases. In other words, the darling little Dodgsons imagine that 'pressuring an MP' by sending in duplicate coupons is somehow effective. Presumably these people are the same ones who believe that if Canadians could just be brought to support the Bill of Rights (and that 2nd thingey), then all would be well.

Gravatarcont...

Daschle opponent John Thune's campaign manager was Dick Wadham, an old political crony of Karl Rove's; the kind of pal Rove could ask to hire his first cousin, John Wood, a few years back. Wadham put the bloggers on the campaign payroll and the symbiotic relationship between the campaign, the bloggers and "reporter" Gannon” continued. On September 29, Gannon broke the story that Daschle had claimed a special tax exemption for a house in Washington and the bloggers jumped all over it. According to a November 17 posting on South Dakota Politics – a site that Van Beek, who has become a staffer for now-Sen. Thune, has bequeathed to Lauck – "Jeff Gannon, whose reportage had a dramatic impact on the Daschle v. Thune race (his story about Sen. Daschle signing a legal document claiming to be a D.C. resident was published nearly the same day Thune began to run an ad showing Daschle saying, "I'm a D.C. resident) has written an analysis of the debacle."

Daschle aides told Roll Call, "This guy (Gannon) became the dumping ground for opposition research." The connections are so strong that there is an FEC challenge which could be a test case on the limits of the use of the Internet in federal campaigns.

Gannon also had Thune on his radio show "Jeff Gannon's Washington," and the White House correspondent for Talon became touted as the "resident D.C. expert on South Dakota politics" by the bloggers. Thune and Wadham (who has been hired by aspiring White House Republican Sen. George Allen) have become go-to guys on the use of blogs in campaigns. Thune was cited in The New York Times as introducing "Senators to the meaning of 'blogging,' explaining the basics of self-published online political commentary and arguing that it can affect public opinion."

This week Democrats, who have serious case of Rove envy, went a little nuts and started sending around information and graphic pictures of Gannon and his porn Web sites. But it is the more routine part of Gannon's life that deserves serious scrutiny. Planting or even just sanctioning a political operative in the WH press room is a dangerous precedent and Karl Rove's hope to become a respected policymaker will be hampered if the dirty tricks from his political past are more apparent than his desire to spread liberty around the globe.

If you examine the news - top to bottom - the only difference between the MSM and Fox is that Fox is unashamed to be following the party line.

My only answer is to seek the truth in other places. But how many Americans actually do this? (I know there are some, but not the millions who watch the Evening News)

Finding best date for trial not easy
Lay's attorneys want to go early; others say no way
By MARY FLOOD
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

The big question in the Enron case is when ex-Chairman Ken Lay and ex-Chief Executive Jeff Skilling will go to trial.
In anticipation of a hearing on that topic next week, lawyers for two defense attorneys have told the court they are not available in June, if not the whole summer, and want the case to start later rather than sooner.
U.S. District Judge Sim Lake asked prosecutors and defense attorneys about scheduling conflicts for June through September, indicating the judge is thinking of starting the trial in the summer.
Daniel Petrocelli, the trial counsel for Skilling, told the court he's busy in June, with a baby due at the beginning of the month and a trial starting midmonth. The California-based attorney said because of the amount of evidence and the way the government has made it available, the trial should not start before September or perhaps even later.
Not free for summer
Reid Weingarten, the Washington-based trial counsel for ex-chief accounting officer Rick Causey, who is to be tried with Lay and Skilling, told the judge he's not free from June through September.
Weingarten, currently defending ex-World Com chief Bernie Ebbers in New York City, asked that the case be put off until Dec. 1. Courthouse insiders say that such a late date is not likely as Lake runs a speedy docket and is not known to postpone very long.
Lay's lawyer, Mike Ramsey, has asked for a speedy trial and said he wants the case to go sooner rather than later. In this he agrees with prosecutors who have specifically asked that the case go in September or sooner

GravatarRadio Producer Could Always Count on 'Gannon' for Tips

San Antonio radio producer Susan Farris could always count on James Guckert, a.k.a. former White House correspondent Jeff Gannon, to pitch an appearance on the shows she produces at conservative talk station KTSA.

He was not only anxious about pushing his story of the day, but seemed to always have some kind of inside knowledge about the White House, as well.

"I said, 'How do you have such great sources?' and he just laughed it off," she told E&P Friday. "Now we all know how."

GravatarWith 51% of the voting public in favor of Bush, the "Media" has made a conscience effort to sway their coverage .

Keep in mind, the "Media" today is not so interested in reporting the "news" as they are in "reporting the news in such a manner that boosts their viewership/readership/listening audience."

With mega-conglomerates controlling the print media and airwaves they measure their profits by the numbers that tune in to hear what they believe the news should be, not is.

In short, they're tayloring the news to fit the audience. Too many of the Bush base is against the "Media" because they don't report the news "as it should be". The "Media" has taken it into account is transforming itself to meet the needs of its audience. Seems they realize that the truth doesn't increase sales as it use to.

GravatarMany progressives respond to ongoing right-wing campaigns against left of center media outlets by opting to cease financially supporting them or discontinuing viewership. The net effect is to leave the media field solely to the right. Over time, this will mean that the right wing will seal every window & door of progressive access to the public through the major news media. The result will be that only a conservative slant on events will be heard by the general public. This will make it extremely difficult for non conservatives to win national elections & the right will have a permanent & growing majority in Congress & further consolidate their hold on the courts.

(To be cont'd)

GravatarI just stumbled on this site through a link. Do you all just sit here all day and complain?

Picking a post at a quick glance, I find....

"Conservatoid gibberish really is mostly regurgitation of their holy catechism of talking points. It is reminiscent of communist blather in which every possible thing that could happen is explained by the historical dialectic. None of this twaddle should pass for discourse among serious people. Everything that happens fits neatly into conservatoid world view. All of reality, they think." ....

This is hillarious. I love when people use words like 'blather' and 'twaddle' with the intention of trying to sound smart.

I am a hard core right wing conservative. Does anybody here actually have any of their own ideas, or is this just a bitch and moan site? You wonder why people laugh at you.

GravatarWith the Gannon story, the media types being paid under the table to promote the Administration, and Federal money being spent, illegally, to promote Bush's policies, one has to ask...where's the oversight?...where's Congress?....????

Isn't Congress's job to control the excesses of the Executive Branch and to launch hearings to investigate misappropriation of government funds?

IMHO, it seems to me that the Congress is derlict in their duties to rein in the excesses. It doesn't do any good to belly-ache about the spilt milk...it has to be cleaned up and measures taken so it doesn't happen again.

Need to get Reid and Dean involved to raise hell in the halls of Congress or suck it up.

If you aren't aware of the laughter every evening comedy talk show produces at the expense of "hard core right wing conervative(s)", you're living in a dream world. I can't even count the number of parody blogs that liberals setup to pretend to advocate conservative positions, just to provide people with comedy. I have yet to even hear of a liberal parody blog.

And if you want ideas, try asking people. No one just sits around posting ideas all day.

GravatarSeriously, come on back out, hard core conservative. If you have an idea, throw it out here. Would like to find out if you're smart?

I have to admit, he does make a good point in that, at times, everyone is hellbent on bellyaching but no substance in their discussions.

I have viral pneumonia atm. Its hard to concentration, and my head is spinning, but I'm at a loss for the ranting and raving that's been going on here.

Or when they do, one misstep and you're banned. Like the freepers who didn't like W's immigration ideas.

GravatarWingnuts tend to bomb places to smithereens but we tend to throw pies or shoes. That's why I love us, of course.

somebody at kos had a really funny thought along similar lines yesterday -- wingers were the cokeheads and liberals were the potheads. i don't necessarily disagree with that.

GravatarMan, have I been on the wrong thread. This is the one where everyone loves me.

Thanks to all.

Now, am I the last person to see this post at Daily Kos informing us that CBS sez JimmyJeff's man in the White House was none other than Karl Rove himself?

Gravatarwingers were the cokeheads and liberals were the potheads.

One small correction - wingers are crackheads, liberals are potheads.

There, much better.

Gravatarportia,

yeah..there are exceptions, granted. But they are so few and far between. ANd when they do make a point, it's drowned out by the right and is never heard again...it disappears from the mainstream conscienceness.

regards

.

GravatarLast chance. Why you gotta come in here and criticize my post? I mean, it's not like I come down to where you work and knock the dicks out of your mouth.

GravatarWow, one post and look what I did....i'm going home now. Don't bother responding anymore to me, I'm not going to be back to read any of it.

I hope you all have a good weekend. PS...I'm betting that I'm smarter and make more money than 90% of the people in here. I'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes. And I didn't even get a graduate degree. Imagine that.

Gravatarre: the term cabloids, i was perusing another blog the other day, and someone referred to the fascist thugs as MEpublicans. kind of sums it up very succinctly, i thought.

GravatarYeah it's a bitch and moan site.

We've found it pretty easy to get you bitches moaning for more!

GravatarAnd I didn't even get a graduate degree. Imagine that.
rm

Correct.
You didn't even "get" a high school diploma.

But we still have hope for you.

GravatarEmblematic Party Drugs

The GOPukes aren't crackheads; they're crankheads, and dangerously unbalanced, desparate to do SOMETHING in those 15 minutes when they are certain they can do ANYTHING...

i agree the drug-of-choice on the left is weed: it leaves one laughing at the pranks of the cranksters, but vulnerable to their violence...

GravatarI'm betting that I'm smarter and make more money than 90% of the people in here....

There were these two really hot female liberal posters. Barely in their twenties, well while they were debating Mao or Stalin, you won't believe what they did to me...

GravatarJimmyJeff's man in the White House was none other than Karl Rove

oh, please god let it be true.

stranger: agreed, much better.

GravatarI'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes. And I didn't even get a graduate degree. Imagine that.

Interesting that the troll thinks income is relevant. And yes, conservatives are always finding "ingenius" ways of getting hugely rich without college degrees.

GravatarDavid Ehrenstein-

I could have used a warning on that one.

Funny, though.

GravatarWhatever, Jeff, or J.D., or "Bulldog," if you prefer. People in the 1% you're talking about don't spend much time posting on internet message boards. Imagine that.

Gravatarthe troll at 4:42 pm was, obviously, not me.

I think the "Communist Martyrs" reference went right over its head. Not a Firesign Theater fan.

GravatarWow, one post and look what I did....i'm going home now. Don't bother responding anymore to me

Chickenshit.

Remind me to remember in future how interested you "conservative" fucktards are in "ideas."

Falangist piece of crap.

GravatarI hope you all have a good weekend. PS...I'm betting that I'm smarter and make more money than 90% of the people in here. I'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes. And I didn't even get a graduate degree. Imagine that.
rm

He's off to make $2,500.00 this weekend.

GravatarI'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes

Wrong, 70% only applies to Fed income tax- does not include FICA withholding, state, and local taxes.

GravatarI (heart) David Ehrenstein!

that pic KILLS me!!!!

GravatarFor real? No fair. You come in here acting like you want to talk about ideas, then run away when you catch some flack for being a jackoff? What gives? Your folks come home?

GravatarIf we want to be taken seriously, then we're gonna have to think, plan, and organize. All this talk is but gibberish and serves no useful purpose other than make us all look silly and ineffective.

My dear sir, you must seriously misjudge your own efficacy if you believe being judged 'serious' by the likes of that pathetic post-pubescent poseur possesses the least chinchilla of relevance to the progressive project...

Folks here, regulars, yourself among them, know that eschatonians are active politically in their various regions, and that they come here to relieve the pressure of having to function in an atmosphere in which the opinions of the trool 'rm' are the numb-nuts norm...

GravatarHolden - that's it - we're there. JimmyJeffJeff was the missing link in the Rathergate thing.

He links the Freepers who came up with the whole "forgery" thing, CBS, and Rove.

I knew Rove was behind that whole thing. I knew it - it had his stink all over it.

GravatarI don't like that Conservatives are crankheads.

Crank can be a good thing.

CrackWhores are what they are.

GravatarNow, am I the last person to see this post at Daily Kos informing us that CBS sez JimmyJeff's man in the White House was none other than Karl Rove himself?

Oh, sweet mother of a prairie dog, let this be true.

GravatarPS...I'm betting that I'm smarter and make more money than 90% of the people in here. I'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes. And I didn't even get a graduate degree. Imagine that.

Welp, hosed that one right down, didn't we?

He'll be here for another hour, talking about how he's really, really leaving now.

GravatarPBS, which was traditionally somewhat left of center, now is under siege by the right. Insteading of progressives disowning PBS, it would be better to imitate the right & wage a long term campaign to bring it left of center. This means much greater financial support by progressives - enough to make it financially secure, combined with concerted pressure to bring it back to liberal oriented programming.

CD & Tena suggest just forgetting about PBS & the other media outlets & relying on the internet or other progressive sources for information. However personally satisfying this choice may be, it has horrible societal consequences in progressives, in general, did this.

Since the general public does not rely on the internet or obscure news sources for info, leaving the major media outlets to the right would mean total right control of the media. Our situation would be akin to those of progressives in authoritarian countries - the major news media outlets that reach the general public would be controlled by the right, with very minor information sources left for the left to talk amongst themselves.

Regarding CD's suggestion to mainly rely on the blogs for information: If the right achieves total control over the major news media outlets & then followed by great government dominance, it wouldn't surprise me if they also made it impossible for progressive internet bloggers to operate. They could tax it out of existence, regulate political blogs to death, or require complex licensing.

I don't think progressives have any alternative but to fight for major media outlets to continue to be heard that are not right wing & to push major news media organization to the left. We're in a war with the right over the dissemination of information; one we can not afford to lose.

Now that I got that off my chest, your comments are welcome.

Gravatarmoad dib - so, how many gay prostitute Repug ops in the WH have you uncovered.

Talk about bitching and moaning - you're so convinced that the black helicopters are here and that it's all too late that that's all you've been saying all day.

That's real pro-active, that is.

Give me a very large break, please.

GravatarThanks bigvic.

I read dkos everyday and this site too, but have only had the nerve to sign on to haloscan, which is easy to handle.

My only problem with reading or posting on this site, is I only get one shot at it and then have to log off the internet before I can read/post more. Too much firewall but I suffered mightily from a spyware hit that wiped out almost everything I had.

If you are on dkos, could you tell them my letter will be posted sometime soon in the Dispatch, Moline IL. Web site is www.qconline.com
Thanks again

GravatarI'm in that 1% category that pays for 70% of all of the taxes

Wrong, 70% only applies to Fed income tax- does not include FICA withholding, state, and local taxes.
no imagination

C'mon no imagination!
The amount the total income tax revenue that the top 1% ponies up is infinitesimally small.

Don't concede that childish bullshit statement!

GravatarSorry, bud, but I'm in the Holy Theocracy of Talibama.

GravatarSaddest commentary I can imagine:

Christians = bigots and warmongers

GravatarWe still want to hear your ideas. They will be third generation Rush-derived garbage about individual freedom, free markets, and how capitalism saved the world by dinnertime. Prove me wrong.

GravatarToo much firewall but I suffered mightily from a spyware hit that wiped out almost everything I had.

maybe you could enlighten me on that. cause i'm having a serious browser hijacking thing going on.

ah, the internets.

GravatarShows what an idiot Howie the Putz is, bigvic. In the blogosphere, the editors and factcheckers are other bloggers and commenters. If a blogger gets something wrong, there are plenty of other bloggers, especially on the other side of the political divide, who are happy to point out the error.

Damnable thing, that freedom of speech!
Wile E. Odysseus | Email | Homepage | 02.18.05 - 4:09 pm | #

Just curious and new to this blog, but if all bloggers are editors and commentators, than why are some of these stories getting coverage in the mainstream media?

I'm not dissing you or anything. I'm just a concerned citizen who prefers to get my news from other sources and enjoys hearing the variety of opinions expressed here and at other blogs.

GravatarRe: "trool

I do not know whether i am responsible for the coinage or not. I know it appeard by Joycean 'happenstance' in a post way back last spring or summer, and I continue to use it consciously, at ever occasion.
But as to its origination, i do not know...i'd like to think it was 'mine'

Have 'em do the numbers from shapes of naked men in stylized gymnastic poses?

Gravatarliberal media= the set of outlets that don't propagate right-wing talking points 100% of the time. Being only 99% pro-Republican makes you a liberal.

Gravatar"After all, we are not communists."

I love me some Atrios comment boards. Firesign Theater...The Godfather...a nasty new name for a nasty baseball team...a sliced-and-diced troll (ahem: trool)...and a cool new word! That was fun.

GravatarAll the seething mess comes out of Texas.

GravatarHi Charley.

My computer started running a little slow, but not too noticeable because I am on cable. Then one day I went into the internet and my homepage was different. Didn't think much of it because my daughters come and use computer. When I exited the internet there was a lovely grey-boxed note saying I had been taken over by "180". At that point I could no longer access the internet.

Because I am not an expert, my daughters (who are very computer literate) tried to salvage things. Had to download anything on hard drive to disc that I wanted to save and managed to save my address book but lost all my trackers, past e-mail, etc.

If you get this far, the only recourse is to wipe out your computer and start all over. But if you catch it early, you can get help from any of the firewall places. Just don't let it go too far, because any corrections you want to make other than totally out, require internet access. What a way to run a railroad.

Gravatar
Perle needs some Instant Karma. Fast.

As opposed to slow instant karma?

I'm betting that I'm smarter and make more money than 90% of the people in here.

Crack dealers do make a lot of money.

GravatarHaha this link is a joke. First isn't the ratio of liberal congressmen to conservative congressmen pretty close to 65:82?

Second is it unreasonable to assume that maybe CBS is trying to clean up their act in light of the Dan Rather mess and the subsequent reports?

Third dear god they called them personal accounts instead of privatization? Aren't personal and private synonomous?

Gravataris it unreasonable to assume that maybe CBS is trying to clean up their act in light of the Dan Rather mess and the subsequent reports?

Gravataruh, uh...

cumming, mother...

GravatarWe used to listen to Don't Crush That Dwarf after supper nearly everyday in the dorm. We got so we could do the voices along with the Firesign Theater.

I recently came across a bunch of Goon Show mp3's and was giving them a listen when I realized that I already knew several of the voices that were being used. I then read an article that one of the FS guys was a huge Goon Show fan.

The Goon Show is like Firesign Theatre, only even more so. Find them and give them a listen.

Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan were in the cast. What more would you want?

GravatarThe scandal-plagued Bush administration.

GravatarGrow up you pathetic little whiners. Nobody gives a crap about some homo called "Gannon".

GravatarIt is a Soros sponsored site. Either way it matters little how many they have it's how they slant the story. I guess using fake documents has something to do with it as well.

GravatarWaiting until the fire dies down to get the last word, huh trolltards?

We give a crap about the "homo who called himself Gannon but that's not really his name" because he was a no-credential hack who served as the WH plant and had access to the Plame documents.
