A little peace to send everyone off to bed? Why not?
Security
Yesterday when I was waiting at the medical laboratory for my turn
to be abused, I sat in the waiting room. Since most of the
magazines were of the senseless and largely vacuous variety, I sat
quietly and examined the patients. At this early hour of the
morning, most of the chairs had been taken. I looked at the people
sitting there and wondered what they were there for.
Most were average people on their way to one task or another. A few
were older and some were younger, but most were about the same age
as I am. There was one exception: a woman, with a toddler sleeping
on her lap. I looked at her child, a little boy, and I thought I
had found the perfect picture of contentment. The toddler with
tousled black hair and perfect face, rested so easily on her lap
with his little head on her chest that I envied him his peace.
Occasionally, I stole glances to see if he had moved. Although by
the end of my waiting time, I had done so many times -- I was never
rewarded for my efforts. He remained stationary in that finest
sanctuary ever devised -- his mother. I stole a couple of glances
at the boy's mother and the picture was totally different. Although
at first appearance, she seemed a little old to have a child of
this age, upon closer examination, I could tell that she was still
very young. Examining her it was easy to tell the years had not
been kind.
Life's little lessons had been beaten into her and she showed their
results in every part of her being. Her hair was disheveled and
badly colored. It appeared more as straw than hair. Her clothes
were clean but old and unstylish. As she sat I wondered how she
could not place her arm around the little boy to protect him
further. As I watched, I worried about the little one. What if he
were startled? Could she react quickly enough to keep him from
falling? How could she resist having him trust her so completely?
Didn't she know those precious years when we are our children's
world pass so quickly they are almost without substance? Just a
passing phase on our way to being old. Still she sat with her arms
at her side while her child enjoyed a peace I can only envy.
But isn't that the way it is? We are soon torn from our safe homes
and thrust into the world. Obligations and responsibilities will
overwhelm us. We will lose our way many times and have to find our
way alone. Still, the little boy slept on. Who could not envy the
him enjoying his rest in mother's arms?

FYI--Dean has already been on Maher's show.
And he handled himself quite well, I might add.
In fact, it occurred several months ago, and if I recall correctly, Maher kept saying to him, "Doctor, if Kerry doesn't win, let's face it: You're gonna be da man in the party, aren't you?"
Dean just deflected answering with a "yes" and kept talking about getting Kerry elected.
Maher was right. And I suspect that Dean KNEW Maher was right. But he was savvy enough not to play into his hands.

Reminds me of the immature queens I've dated who would ask you to pay your rent, and then getting refused, key your car, steal from your wallet, and slash your tires to punish you for having the guts to be a real gay man.

Ballad of the Lonesome Cowpoke
Midland Dubya was a Cowpoke down in Texas,
A bold Rider of the Yellow, Yellow Sage!
He was the roughest, toughest critter
Ever joined the Guard, then quit 'er,
He's the wonder of the Neo-putian Age!
So Yippee-i-Yay-i-Yay, Yippee-Yi-Yo!
For the cock-eyed shitter west of the Alamo!
Then Tex said “God wants me for a tiny despot!
Evr’y day He whispers sweet things in my ear!
So I’m wreakin’ signs and wonders!
(We don’t say “strategic blunders”)
Now jest watch me rope this taxidermy steer!”
So Yippee-i-Yay-i-Yay, Yippee-Yi-Yo!
For the cock-eyed blund’rer east of the Alamo!
Then Tex said “Goddam I need a Cowpoke playmate
One who makes me feel I really am A MAN!
Here’s a picher of Jeff Gannon
He’s equipped with one big cannon,
Tell the feds that he don’t need a background scan!”
So Yippee-i-Yay-i-Yay, Yippee-Yi-Yo!
For the Backdoor Cowpoke east of the Alamo!

It is a common fallacy to equate formal democracy with an absence of repression. A state can be quite theocratic and yet have at least a legal commitment to secular rule. Iraq in a lot of way will probably end up looking a lot like, say, Ireland in the 1950s, with a legally secular government but wherein all the social and cultural power rests with ultraconservative religious leaders. The gov;t itself will be more or less endlessly dependednt on the US for security, to stave off a predatory Iran and the more or less unstoppable insurgency, terrorism, whatever, which will always have the capacity to bring on civil war.
The situation is more or less at a permanent stalemate. Wheeeeee.

--Toby will tell you that it is stupid to suggest that only those people who have the experience of fighting in a war can announce their support for it.
--Of course, Toby's answer misses the point entirely and sets up a straw man that can easily be shot down. Because, of course, it is silly to suggest that only those people who have had the experience of fighting in a war are the only ones that can advocate for it.
--But, you see, no one is suggesting that only those who have faught in a war can advocate for it.
--Instead, what people are suggesting is that, as Juan Cole has observed, if you are young and able bodied, and you advocate that a certain war be fought, then you are a COWARD AND A HYPOCRITE if you don't go fight it yourself while letting OTHERS go and do the fighting.
--I think Toby knows this. But, like most right-wingers, he's just displaying that intellectual dishonesty and sophistry for which they are so well known.

Saw this today in Le Monde (and it underscores what a hopeless duo Condi and Chimpy make):
By refusing dialog with Teheran, Washington diminishes the capacity of Iran to influence events inside Iraq. Due to the multiplicity and the nuance of its ancient ties to Iraq, Iran has the potential of making things very much worse. Whatever the case, any recent visitor to Teheran or Qom cannot help but notice that the results of the 30 January election are considered to be an immense success for Iran.
...
Within the framework of a return to diplomacy, as President Bush has advocated, a time and place must be found for the opening of dialog with Iran. If the successor to President Khatami (elections will be held in June) is a powerful and experienced man, like Hojjat ol-Islam Hashemi Rafsanjani, it is conceivable that the Islamic Republic will recognize Israel and agree to observe the provisions of the Non-Proliferation treaty, two Western demands, in exchange for acceptance of its legitimate role in regional security and economic concessions.

Okay. Question for the question box.
What makes us think we can defeat the evil Right the way we are trying to now?
If the MSM doesn't pick up on the myriad scandals in the Bush administration - possibly (probably?) because they are corporate-owned and in no way beholden to the Truth, then how does all this shit ever get out to people? The common man/woman, as it were?
It seems to me that most people still have too much to lose to challenge Bush et al. We ain't at the guillotine stage yet.
Most people would rather deny, would rather avert their eyes.
Revelations? There have been many. Reaction? Yawns and blank stares and "too busy to be bothered" reactions.
I have, along with many others, asked, "What will it take?" What horror, what offense, what crime needs to be perpetrated before The People rise up and knock GWB et al on their thieving fat asses?
I have no idea, but it would seem to be a helluva lot.
Are we hopelessly naive?
Do we really have no concept of the depth and breadth of evil being carried on right bnow in plain sight, and do we really have no idea how to combat - let alone neutralize - it?
I am truly afraid.
I think these people - the Bushites - will stop at nothing - nothing! - to remain in power. Power is their aphrodisiac, their crack, their meth. These people are power junkies, and they will not hesitate to necklace any one who gets in their way.
What - who?? do we have with that kind of commitment to take them on?

Not much to elaborate just yet. Have been agonizing for a title ever since discovering that there was already an Evil Midnight Blogger What Blogs At Midnight. ECClectic, The Punnsylvanian, Snarkosis, Angster Of Love, Greekius, Chinook Pete, none of them quite seemed to work.
Finally settled on Multi Medium, since I will be channeling thoughts on movies, music, books, & the occasional photo (and who knows, maybe some politics too - stranger things have happened), and it will probably all be very mediocre.
Right now I have absolutely nothing to post, but every once in a while I get an itch about something, and now I'll have someplace to scratch it, rather than waiting for an open thread.

I will now concede, after reviewing the more recent developments, that Jeff Gannon is probably a male prostitute and got access to the press corps and President most likely, from a customer/butt-buddy.
This still does not mean the administration advocates anything he does in his private life, or aides in his own little sycophantic agenda.
It simply means we have someone with access in the Whitehouse so seriously "divorced from reality," that they let their prostitue enter a world he really shouldn't have allowed to be in, effectively putting the President in a position of proving a negative.
Rove needs to clean this up and crack some fucking skulls.
It's still bullshit when compared to Mapes+Kerry+CBS=attempt on the presidency, and the Eason Jordan remarks.
But it's also still bullshit that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the President.
From now I will never say anything about Gannon vis-a-vis Atrios's treatment of the CBS/Eason events.
Got to learn from the experienced.
p.s. this is a one time concession, you will not see it again.

Pentagon adviser Richard Perle debated Howard Dean in Portland, Ore., last night, and the audience included at least one idiot, as the Associated Press reports:
Perle had just started his comments Thursday when a protester threw a shoe at him before being dragged away, screaming, "Liar! Liar!"
Sounds like a Khrushchev wannabe. What is it with advocates of totalitarianism and their shoes? Anyway, then there's this gem:
In his new role as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Dean has stressed that Democrats are stronger than Republicans on defense.
"Defense is a lot broader than swaggering around saying you're going to kick Saddam's butt," Dean said Thursday, drawing cheers from the crowd in this city that overwhelmingly voted Democratic last November.
It's not clear how this shows that "Democrats are stronger than Republicans on defense." After all, "swaggering around saying you're going to kick Saddam's butt" was precisely the policy of the last Democratic administration. The current Republican administration actually kicked his butt and even took down names.

Imagine that a man is walking down a quiet street and passes an alleyway in which he sees another man assaulting a woman. What is he to do? He considers jumping in to defend her, but then realizes that that may be "risky" and even possibly "reckless." The safe thing to do is to keep moving on. After all he really didn't know the woman and he had no divested "interest" in saving her.
Moments later that same man looks behind him and sees that a second man has noticed the assault in the alleyway and has jumped in to defend the woman. The first man notices that the second man is about the same age, height, weight as he is but this man jumped in anyway. Uh oh, now he has a problem. Does he hope the second man does well, wins the fight, saves her honor and becomes the hero? What a disgrace that would be. After all, he could have done the same and chose not to. It would make his decision look awfully bad upon reflection. On the other hand, what if the second man were to become the second victim? Would it really make the first man feel smug knowing that that could have been him, but a man far better than him at least did something honorable yet "risky" and possibly "reckless"?
There's your "Hobbesian choice" simplified into micro terms in relation to Iraq. It's easy to see now which man is John Kerry and which man is George W. Bush. Or even better, which man is a liberal war protester continuing the protest even after the war has begun and which man is the soldier or Marine serving in harm's way willingly.

I just talked to EPT's brother and it isn't as bad as they thought. He's still very sick but they think he's going to recover.
His brother says to thank people for their good wishes. He will pass them on. EPT has only told his brother and me who he is so he probably would rather remain anonymous. His brother said that if he would like to be able to tell him that people are using a word he invented, cabloid. He used it for the cable news stations and asked his brother last week if he had heard anyone use it yet. He thinks that would make his day.
I will let you know if there is any more news.

Hilarious exchange between Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D., Calif.) and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. As the latter testified Wednesday before the House Armed Services Committee, the former tried but failed to catch him in a misstatement of fact:
Sanchez: Unfortunately, as I said, this committee has had a hard time assessing where we really stand with the Iraqi army as an effective fighting force. Over the past year, we've received incredibly widely fluctuating estimates of that. And I think you have a real credibility problem on this issue.
Rumsfeld: Fluctuations of what?
Sanchez: The fluctuations of--the numbers that you bandy around about how many troops we really have out there that are Iraqi police, et cetera, et cetera. . . .
Rusmfeld: Now, you say we bandy around numbers. They're not my numbers. I don't invent them. They come from Gen. Petraeus. . . .
Sanchez: I have Petraeus's numbers. They're different than your numbers, by the way.
Rumsfeld: Well, what's the date? They aren't different because these came from Petraeus. He may have two sets of numbers, but they are not different if the date's the same. The date on my paper here is Feb. 14. What's yours?
Sanchez: Dec. 20.
Rumsfeld: Not surprising there's a difference.

Voting against economic interests? Fuck, what is it with you people? Do you honestly believe that we don't want people to have jobs? We DO. We'd also like a fair jobscape out there. Oh, and not killing people for economic interests might make some people think a little more highly of BushCo's plan for the American econcomy.
Seriously, how great a country are we if we have to invade another country for jobs and profits? You denigrate the true American businesspeople. I've never killed anyone for economic gain but I guess that makes me a hippie, eh?

Looks like Gannon had a hard on (as it were) for CBS. In addition to fingering Mapes as the fall guy for 'faked' TANG memos, he was quick to mention CBS's role in exposing the Abu Ghraib photos:
CBS first reported the abuse on May 5th, and JGJG's article followed the next day. WP and The New Yorker were also mentioned in the article, but they came much later, in the 6th and 7th paragraphs out of a 10 paragraph article.
What I can't figure out is why he tried to pin the blame on the DOD. To my knowlege that was pure speculation, and IIRC the most logical source of the leak was Graner's attorney. Did someone in the WH proffer this info to him in the hopes of bringing down Rummy?

"After all, "swaggering around saying you're going to kick Saddam's butt" was precisely the policy of the last Democratic administration. The current Republican administration actually kicked his butt and even took down names."
--Yeah, as if that was so hard to do when you have the most powerful military machine in the world at your disposal and you are going against the remains of an military force that was decimated over a decade ago.
--Yeah, it's sooooo nice they did that.
-- You know what would have been even nicer, though? If they'd heeded all those warnings from the American intelligence community, Sandy Berger, and Richard Clarke about Al Queda and taken steps to prevent what happened on 9-11. Then, perhaps a whole lot of AMERICANS would still be alive today.
--By the way, Toby cunt . . . . why do you consistently ignore direct questions that have been put to you?
Within the past 24 hours you have been asked:
1. To define "freedom" and
2. To explain why you aren't in Iraq fighting for a war for which you are so gung ho and
3. To admit or deny that you are a coward and a hypocrite

WASHINGTON -- Roman Catholic leaders said Friday they received 1,092 new abuse claims against American priests and deacons last year, even after they had already paid more than $800 million in settlements during the long-running crisis over predatory clergy.
Bishops said, however, that the flood of fresh allegations was not a sign abuse was rampant in parishes today. Most of the alleged incidents occurred decades ago and nearly three-quarters of the 756 accused clerics had died, been defrocked or been removed from public ministry before the claims were made in 2004, church leaders said.
Might be time to rethink that celebacy policy.

I like the term "moonbats".
Shortly before the election I had a dream that included a song to be dedicated to all the trolls who would surely (or is that surly) have better things to do than hang out here:
Asshats and Moonbats
(after Jim Croce's Photographs and Memories):
Asshats and moonbats
Mindless insults hurled by gnats
All that I have are these
To remember you
Stupid trolls that come at night
Wanting just to waste my time
All that they ever could do
Was sound asinine
Chorus:
But we sure had a good time
While we swatted all their friends
Swift boat guys and media lies
Oh how their "truth" just bends
Winter skies and hopeless sighs
Nights they wouldn't say goodbye
And for all of the venom they spewed
All of us survived
Asshats and moonbats
All the late night dopey spats
Somehow I wish it were true
That's all we've left of you
Frankly, the only thing more galling than the brazenness with which the White House abrogates the public's right to know is the sheep-like docility with which we accept it, with which we become complicitous in our own hoodwinking.
When the history of this era is written, people will wonder why we didn't challenge its excesses, why we didn't know the things we should have.
If you're still around, remember the uproar you do not hear right this moment and tell them the truth.
Ignorance was easier.

Karin, boy, howdy....
In the meantime, inbetween time, and appropos of absolutely nothing....
I have the Penguin Book of Saints. I mean to offend no one, but, not having been raised in a religious household, religion and its stories were, well, stories to me, myths, legends.
The stories of the saints are of provocative interest to me.
Women canonized for having done everything possible to preserve their virginity...severed breasts carrioed on plates, gouged-out eyes held in slender white hands.....
Anyway, one of my favorites was St (something French beginning with a "J"), who was sent to minister to, of all things, the Iroqois. Strong and determined m-f's, the Iroqois. Not to be fucked with.
So, St J went to them with the Word.
The Iroqois beat then crap out of him and threw him out and said, "Don't come back here trying to peddle that shit. Thanks."
St J healed, and after a while, went back to spread the Word about Jeebus.
Iroqois beat crap out of St J, send him on his beaten-up way again, with the message, do NOT come back. We do not want your fucking shit around here.
St J, being Catholic and Christian and unable to help himself, goes back.
This time, the Iroqois understandably lose patience.
They skin St J (who, of course, is not a St yet, this happens AFTER he is skinned alive) alive. He dies. He is canonized, eventually.
But, in this apocryphal tale, my sympathies are always with the Iroqois, who have, I believe, shown a great deal more tolerance than St J deserved.
And it amuses the living fuck out of me that the Church actually canonized the idiot boy, St J.
Life is so fucking strange, throughout history. Human beings are hilarious!

Deep Purple is also quite big. And I noticed Steve Morse had a huge scab oon his left forearm. After the show, I asked a friend who was working the show what was up with his arm, and how he could play like that.
He said, 'That ain't half of it. He dumped his motorcycle last week in Atlanta. He's playing with two broken ribs.'
Morse fits that band like a glove, even though he ain't Blackmore.

Morse is without a doubt one of the sweetest people in the music industry. First time I met him (back when they were still the Dixie Dregs), he let me sit down and play his Frankenstein Tele. Most guitar gods would pull a Nigel Tufnel, but not Morse.
Gillan jokes that whenever Purple has a day off, Morse records another solo album. Not really much of an exaggeration, really.
I saw him last year with the Dregs, and Jerry Goodman from Mahavishnu was playing violin. Their encore - 'Birds of Fire' and 'Inner Mounting Flame.' Pretty amazing.

God, I love talking old rock bands.
I saw Deep Purple on that same '87 tour as Ripley, about a week before Blackmore broke his finger and they cancelled the rest of the N. American tour. They were amazing.
Steve Morse is a phenomenal guitarist. I've been playing for almost 20 years (10 years pro and semi-pro, back in the day), and I can't do half the shit he does. He actually was the first stadium show I saw, back in 1986, opening for Rush (who are phenomenal live).
One of my old bands opened for Dream Theater back in 1994. Very good down-to-earth guys, and I probably learned more watching John Petrucci shred for two hours straight than I could have in a year of lessons from a mortal.
Another band that you wouldn't think of, but was really excellent live, is Mr. Big. They got lumped in with all those power-ballad hair bands, but they rocked live. If you can find an import copy of Raw Like Sushi, grab it. I got to hang with them a few times on their '91 tour (mutual friends), at the peak of their popularity. Absolutely excellent guys, the nicest people you would want to meet, especially Paul Gilbert, who is every bit as virtuosic as Petrucci or Morse.

Does anyone else think the GOP's anti-gay bigotry and platform is really a cynical stance to rile up and appeal to their voter base of the mainly christian/white, in order to stay in office (like the prez election and the gay marriage factor), and overcompensate and cover for any gays in the right. And in reality homosexuality is as common in their ranks as anywhere else, yet pretty closeted around most places, but more open/accepted higher up in the chain, where money and power can buy secrecy and access to whatever they want. Greed for power and money knows no boundaries, so why shouldnt some gays follow lockstep with the right if they want what/where being a wingnut can get them. Even if in the end the hatred brewed by their fellow GOP does harm to the gay community.

I saw this [Rush 1986] tour. Altogether, I've seen Rush 9 times, always worth the money.
Yep. They're unbelievable. I've only seen them three times, and gathered several bootlegs. And read both of Peart's books.
Ripley:
The name of the band that opened for Dream Theater was "Rockslide" (yeah, I know, how original). I used to tell people we sounded like Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and Frank Zappa (because of the lyrics to songs like "Balls Of Rock").
It was a lot of fun. I have no idea how I drank that much and lived.
As for Mr. Big, I can tell you this much, from actually hanging with them several times, and knowing people associated with them, their problems seemed to be both external and internal. Because they came at the end of the "hair band" phase, that's how Atlantic marketed them, selling them with the power ballads. Which worked at first, but they had a lot of heavier songs.
The other thing is that the three songwriters of the group were all pulling in different directions -- Eric Martin is an R&B guy, Sheehan writes mostly metal-type riffs, and Gilbert was really working out some Todd Rundgren-style pop chops (check out Green-Tinted Sixties Mind).
So the record company, being corporate, didn't know how to sell them to 14-year-old girls. They were like Beatles-popular in Japan well after their final album in 1996.
Gilbert has done some pretty cool solo stuff since then, well worth searching for. Very funny guy, with an excellent sense of humor. One of my favorite music memories is being in the lounge at the San Jose Radisson, at the end-of-tour party, hanging out with Paul Gilbert and Deen Castronovo, drinking 7&7's and trading off on classic cartoon voices. Castronovo does a pretty good Scooby Doo.
I think Atlantic had an absolutely amazing roster of under-the-radar bands in the late '80s/early '90s -- Mr. Big, King's X, Saigon Kick, and I know there were a couple others but I haven't thought about this particular thing in a long time. But some really original bands that were head-and shoulders above anything else at the time.

Diamond Dave, IMO, was the penultimate voice of Rock in the early days. The guy could sing (he really could) and howl like nobody's business. He was "flashy" but he wasn't above anyone - he was just the ultimate funny guy with a great voice. Fame may have turned things a bit hinky (notice there are no trolls now?) but I still like Dave. i know well how the system bilks the elderly. i watched it happen with my mom. started before i had her mail forwarded to me, so that i could pay her bills.
i figured that the phone company must have had her age in some records. and started testing her sentience. because in the months prior to my capturing her mail, the phone company started adding bogus charges to her bill. it started out cheap, an extra $35.00 in the first month. but she paid the bill. the second month, an extra $100.00. she paid it. the third month, when i received the bill, an extra $300.00.
as i investigated it, the phone company has a lot of unpaid invoices. at a certain point, knowing a customers age and other details, they start to pass those uncollected bills onto the elderly. if the first pass at that fraud goes unprotested, they add some more for the next billing. if those go unprotested, they pile on.
the scam that i uncovered involved third party long distance calls, charged to my mom, from a cited phone number that didn't exist. it was a notional number. an in-house number.
eventually, i caught all the systems piling on. from the electric utility to the gas utility to the water district. at some point, all of them determined that this elderly widow had become a mark.
oddly enough, this thievery of the elderly and the infirm appears to have started in the bushit's first term as governor.
now, it may have been going on previously, but as i audited my mom's billings, it began as soon as bush became governor.
i care to ask, who speaks for the elderly these days? who knows of this level of fraud and thievery?
who is the congress of the usa? all gayboys kneeling to the corporate cocks?
oh, and the folks who run these corporations: all good christians, every one. fundamentalists even.
as tom lehrer once noted, we seem to be sliding down that razor blade of life.
I am sorry for your loss.

Oh, Stony, I apologize for being such a mope.
I just think we're such relative innocents compared with the Rovians!!!
And, I worry. I have grandkids. I want them to understand and believe in the Bill of Rights, the Constitution.
Have no fear - I will be certain to educate them. It just seems a shame that I would have to do so, concertedly.
Oh, gee whiz...I so despise Bush and his entire admin, and I get downhearted.
I need to get past that, don;t I? No need to drag everyone else down!!!
At work, we all pull each other up, and I really need to start doing that here, as well.
My apologies!!

I went through quite the same experience when my mom passed. A lot of her bills were padded. How could a widow living alone in an apartment end up with a $250 utility bill?
Sad thing is, it will only get worse. I hate the extortionists who have hijacked this country and given corporations license to gouge.

Guckert is a user and a rogue on the fringe of the gay community like a fucking shark. He's not a part of the gay community per se like EPT, me and others who post here. Sheehan is an amazing bass player, as musically talented as Geddy Lee, and as visually fun to watch as Geezer Butler or Steve Harris.
I agree that George Lynch and especially Yngwie get kind of a bad rap. Yngwie is a wankmeister, but there's no denying he's as technically accomplished as Morse or Petrucci, and he seems to come by it more "organically"; i.e., he is actually steeped in classical playing and theory, rather than running endless scales for twelve hours a day and charting it like a bodybuilder. I think he's gotten a bad rap mostly because he seems to be a very unpleasant person to deal with. But Blackmore had the same rep, and it always seemed to deal with an impatience with the music press asking the same three questions over and over again.
I'll tell ya an underrated guitarist -- Phil Campbell of Motorhead. They came to my little cow town back in '01, played an incredible show in a 200-seater. You woulda thought they were playing a 100,000-seat soccer stadium.
Best of all, Lemmy came down to the downstairs bar before the show to shoot a few games of pool with the locals, including yours truly. Very sharp guy, very dry British sense of humor. I got to hang with Lemmy & Phil after the show as well. For me, it was like meeting Elvis.

The truth is that we don't have the courage to look the ugliness right in the face. It's not just Bush, it's the whole stinking, surpurating edifice. It's all the grifters and scammers and corporations that prey on the weak and the unfortunate.
These things happen everyday in our country and our society looks the other way.

King's X were awesome. That's a band I really miss. I pull a lot of cuts from the first 3 albums (esp. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska)for various Winamp playlists.
John Sykes is very underrated.
But Gary Moore may be the most critically underrated guitar player, pound for pound, in the history of rock and roll. Nobody who plays as flawlessly as Gary Moore should be anything less than 10 times as famous as Eddie Van Halen. I defy anyone to listen to his rendition of The Messiah Will Come Again and not get at least a little choked up. Amazing player.
I liked Dimebag Darrell's playing quite a lot. Very original, pattern-oriented (as opposed to scalar) style, hard to categorize, like EVH.
I think Zakk Wylde has done an excellent job filling the shoes of Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee. Lee was also pretty damned good, once he left Ozzy and got Badlands going.

up way too late. haven't been able to sleep well lately.
my mom's demise was a blessing. still, i had been taking care of her for a decade and her loss is a hole in my heart. even though she forgot how to talk some months ago, there were sometimes those eye contacts, when you knew that she recognized you and missed all that she once had known of you.
ah, i have chapter in my memoirs, that will focus on the elderly women in a little board and care in the mar vista district of los angeles.
on a lighter note, thnx for all condolences.
4legsgood, i care to single you out. you understand some things that many seem to want to ignore. i thank you for your understanding of the fact that mostly i have put truths up on this board.
i travel all over the world. principally in the oil/gas production areas. though i haven't been involved in the secret state for over thirty years, i find that i continue to get recognized by others who are still in the racket. it still happens, i fly into heathrow, go to my hotel, walk into the bar, empty but for some middle eastern men, who immediately rush up to me as if i am their contact.
when i post certain things on this board, i have to admit that i may no longer know as much as i once was privy to, but i have a very good nose. and i know how the secret state works. and who pays the piper.
by the way, i prefer a basque boina to any tinfoil hat.

President Bush remained at his ranch in Crawford, Texas today following his meeting Monday with Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Advisor Dr. Condoleeza Rice, Defense Secretary Doanald Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Richard Meyers.
The SBVfT aren't backing down from their charges that John Kerry lied to get his medals during the Vietnam war.
They have begun to air a second ad that focuses on Kerry's 1971 testimony in front of the Senate Foriegn Relations Committee where he accused American soldiers of commiting war crimes.
President Bush called on all 527's to pull their ads, but Democrats in the media are demanding are demanding that he specifically denounce the Swiftboat ads.
John Kerry campaigns in NYC today where he will accuse Republicans of waging a smear and fear campaign.

Jeffraham Prestonian, it's insulting that heteros wont own up to the damage and injury they've done. It's insulting how dismissive they are towards gays and the crippled conditioned we're in because of homophobia. I own up to the chronic damage to the black community for being being white, for the most part, and especially for my 'Southern Heritage.' There's just no way you can deny the damage heteros have caused homos over the centuries. That can be forgiven, but now it can't.
ΤΏΤ |

And not even to "own up" to it just at least recognize it instead of robotically dismissing it out of hand as ludicrous when that damage is easily observable.

Right Wing evildoer tactics to target DNC web operations.
The following is being circulated as a plan that someone on the darkside came up with to get to the DNC.
"I advise everyone to hit the site multiple times, "join", give them $2 (you will then be a member and a donor). Sign up for newsletters with more than one mail account.
They will spend $20 trying to get another $2 out of you, for one thing, and will spend lots of bandwidth filling up the throwaway hotmail email accounts and your junk mail wastebasket, and they will think that their base is growing and they are strong. Plus, you will see first hand what they are putting out.
Next, encourage Dean as much as is humanly possible. Flood him with self-confidence and let him believe his ideas are accepted by the "mainstream Americans". Don't let him feel he needs to work to get the ideas out, to get the ideas accepted, let him believe that we are all hungrily lapping it up and want more. Once in a while go to your junk email account and reply very positively to the message and try to push ever leftward.
Like last time, the letdown will come when people actually VOTE and the hype and media push become irrelevant.
We are the media now!"
I wonder what would happen if the RNC was subject to such activites?
But then we would be stooping to their level right?

Imus supported Kerry, and make the republicans look bad over their treatment of our current returning vets.
i totally dig Bill and what he has done to stand up against right-wing, and as much as i like some Libertarian stances on issues, others are just sort of funky to me. (i think Bill is a Lib?) but anyway, some of the things he sez about male and female relationships, interesting as they are, can be off putting, so when he lessens the tortue issue over the treatment of women...and yes, i know that he claims and indeed may be a feminist...i just wish he would...i don't know.
ya, i won't be watching Imus anymore because of he was fast and loose with the words "homo" and "queer" yesterday when talking about the Gannon thing.

since i am still up, i want to take the time to discuss dementia....
ordinarily, at this hour, i would not devote this time. but i have become passionate in trying to explain dementia to an audience that doesn't know anything about it.
i put a long essay up on an alzheimer's site some years back. i lost it in a hard drive crash, but perhaps i can reconstruct it for you....
dementia is often labeled alzheimer's disease. that is a mistake. dementia can have many causes...most of them not related to the syndrome that dr alzheimer identified.
most horribly, most victims of dementia are never cranially dissected. as a consequence, we really don't know the causes of dementia.
oh, and by the way, any cause of cerebral disintegration requires post-mortem examination to even begin to attempt to determine the cause.
but, as i have learned, most sufferers of dementia are not autopsied. and even if you want them autopsied, you will probably not be able to have that done.
and i think the causes of dementia are pretty important. for example, in texas, after all kinds of scans, she was pronounced a victim of alzheimer's. in los angeles, ucla docs, looking at the same evidence, pronounced her a victim of vascular dementia.
hmmm. this provoked me to investigate dementia.
i assert that there are many churches of dementia. the alzheimer's church - no escaping it.
then there is the vascular church - can be as destructive. but, it can be reversed. or more accurately, stabilized.
and then there is the nutritional church. insufficient vitamin b. not getting enough of this vitamin will destroy your brain. irreversibly.
and then there is the hormonal church. hypothyroidism. also irreversible.
i care to discuss this now in the hope that i can save some lives. the course of alzheimer's may be unalterable. vascular dementia may also be a toughie. and unalterable.
but nutritional and hormonal dementia can be arrested.
get your thyroid checked. make sure you get your b complex vitamins.
most docs don't do this.
i attribute that to docs not understanding the nutrional, hormonal cause of dementia.
you have to take care of yourself and your loved ones. on your own.
i tell you this from my experience. my mom died at almost 92. a long life. but her dementia might have been prevented had i a better understanding of hormonal and nutritional causes of dementia.
if you are caring for a parent, have the thyroid function checked immediately. and make sure that their diet is rich in the b-complex vitamins.
oh, i know, some will assert that i am wearing that tinfoil hat again.
wrong.
i am telling you about aspects of dementia that go undiscussed in this crazy country.
if you have loved ones, paying attention to what i am relating will prolong their lives.
And for the more morbid, here's a few pics of what used to be, and one day shall be, my house, with me lurking...

I'll ask my mother to do that. I'm not caring for her because she's not unwell and she's in her 60s but I'll ask her to ask her doctor about that. She is the type to live as long as your mother.

I don't think so. I've never begged anyone, especially heteros, that I should be pitied. I've always been up front and fuck off with their "tolerance." I have written some about my history with my partner because I think they should have information that real harm takes place against gays in this society. I'm not at all someone who should be pitied and I certainly don't want it. I do think it's a real shame what goes on against gays in this soceity is treated more like an academic question pondered endlessly by liberals generally instead of the white hot immediate outrage it really is.

Of, and for bands, Motorhead kicks all arse, all time.
Saw them in a smaller club, they shared the ticket with W.A.S.P.(posers, we bailed when they were lyp-synching).
I was going to meet Lemmy outside, the manager was letting me through, my friend storms out cussing about the lyp synch act.
WASP's manager takes up for them, finally he says "look, it was only some backing vocals" and we said (in unison) "if you have to fake any of it -fuck it!"
That ended my chance to meet Lemmie, in his limo not far away.
But he did sing the song I called for. He said he'd take a resuest from anyone in the audience. I gave a roar to play "Orgasmatron" and they all kicked in at the same time it was so loud.
That kind of validation is above all things, what Rock 'n Roll is about.
Plus his bandmembers, his guitarist lived in Memphis a good while, it was his homecoming and he was spot on.
Food for the Gods it were...

Sullivan is an "elitist queer", for instance, or so considers himself above the fray. After all, he doesn't have to work for Cracker Barrel. I don't consider myself elitist anything. It pisses me off they would try to stratify the gay community like we've been done throughout history. Like blacks do now, too. Mexicans do the same with their Native American population. outside of Trader Joe' a car was parked in the handicapped space. It was covered with 'support our troops', 'don't burn our flag', Bush/Cheney, yellow ribbons, flag stickers, etc. On the sides were magnetic ads for a "Pet Message Therapy and Pet Psychic" business. This large women comes trotting out, seemingly healthy, with her groceries, without a moment of distress or difficulty. I looked inside the dashboard, and there was no handicapped sticker tied to her rearview mirror.

I for one am outraged! A prostitute(male or female) in the WH is outrageous! My children have already started asking questions...I don't know what to say! I am a republican and this really has my blood boiling. I can't understand why some of my fellow party members are trying to stick up for this man! They are sticking up for male prostitutes and someone that committed treason by outing a CIA agent? What is going on here? This is not a left or right issue! This is an American issue! How can we know anything anymore when we are being lied to? If we aren't being lied to, another question is, how did a prostitute get in and who let him in? How do we know that he isn't a spy for a foriegn country? How do we know that he isn't trading sex for info or favors or cash and putting our national interests at risk? He is a Mata Hari as far as I am concerned! A Tokyo Rose? Anyway, he is a traitor to our great country and Republicans(like me) and Democrats like you(I guess this is a Dem blog, by the looks of it) should really be upset about this!. I hate being lied to. I hated it when Clinton lied and I hate this constant lying by this admin., I wish I would've voted for Kerry at this point! Sorry America!
