I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarHello I must be leaving.

GravatarGuckeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrt....

GravatarGuck Bush.

Gravataralmost first

GravatarHello everyone, i have a favor to ask.

i'm a lurker and long time reader, and i made an album of lefty folk
rock. i'm thinking of advertising here but i don't have a lot of money
so I want to see if any of you like it before i commit....here you go:

The Big Hit--a little folk in
a complicated world

any thoughts? thanks....

GravatarPrior to the election I wrote a propaganda piece about how Karl Rove would spin the story if President Bush were caught having homosexual relations in the White House. In light of the past weeks revelations, it might be appropriate to post this story somewhere. I am wondering if I should post the story and if so, where should I post it.

GravatarI am wondering if I should post the story and if so, where should I post it.

You're kidding, right?

GravatarFuck Bush, Fuck Guckert...ah never mind the last one will cost too much.

myself

GravatarBreaking: Bush admits trying pot...taped conversations from 1998 come to light.

Click the homepage for coverage on kos (original article in the NYTimes).

GravatarBreaking: Bush admits trying pot

Was that before or after the Beatles got weird?

GravatarAnd Fuck Bush as well

GravatarOh, and fuck Bush!

GravatarI'll bet Bush was the biggest bogart ever.

Gravatargood evening to all!

GravatarBreaking: Bush admits trying pot...taped conversations from 1998 come to light.

It must have been some powerful weed because the man has been stoned for years.

GravatarI'll bet Bush was the biggest bogart ever.

I'm sure he moved onto cocaine after his first joint. Gateway drug and all.

GravatarI wonder what nickname Bush had for Jimmyjeff.

Gravatarcheck out my blog...
suburbannomad.blogspot.com

GravatarI wonder what nickname Bush had for Jimmyjeff.

Ol' Top?

GravatarAttaturk, I have NEVER seen anyone stoned who would even consider doing the things W has done. He's a drunk, and a mean, sadistic one.

GravatarLJLY -

Has anyone here EVER checked out your blog?

I didn't think so.

GravatarBreaking: Bush admits trying pot

But he only drank the bong water once.

GravatarYeah, he "tried" pot. He bought it from the lump. He tried a lot of other drugs, too. Wingnuts won't care cuz he washed all that away in the blood of the lamb.

Gravatartoo bad the weed didn't take.

Gravatar?? My URL window keeps filling up with ///////'s. ???

Anywho: I caught bits of CB4 today...not the greatest, but not bad. Chris Rock rocks.

What I noticed was (here's the weird part) how gangsta rappers remind me of current conservatives. Bear with me---

--the similarities: They're both violent, mysoginistic, and gay-hating, they have both co-opted and destroyed the reputation of a valid form of expression (in one case, old-school conservatism, in the other, old-school rap), and in both cases, the majority of them are macho frauds and pussies (or maybe even on the "down low"), desperately trying to get people to believe what badasses they are.

Hmmm...maybe it **does** work...

GravatarHe confessed trying at a minimum pot.

GravatarBreaking: Bush admits trying pot

Jeebus, he was a drunken party boy in the 70's. Of course he tried pot...and coke...and......

GravatarWingnuts won't care cuz he washed all that away in the blood of the lamb.

Over one hundred thousand and counting.

GravatarCondi & Georgie have been in the wake'n bake club since the 1st memo from Richard Clarke.

GravatarIt's Murphy's Law. When I actually put some thought into something I think is relevant...New thread!

GravatarHe confessed trying at a minimum pot.
underwhelm

I *hate* minimum pot.

GravatarWhat a waste of good weed. Or maybe it wasn't good weed. Maybe he didn't inhale. There's no way he had a good hit and turned out to be as big a prick as he is. The coke and booze fit his persona, but certainly not weed.

Gravatar"I'll bet Bush was the biggest bogart ever."

I'm sure he was the guy who loved to smoke your stash, but never bought any of his own.

GravatarI'll bet Bush was the biggest bogart ever.

I'll bet he only ever smoked OP's dope as well.

GravatarHe probably STARTED with weed...but he couldn't get stoned enough to stop noticing that even his stoner buddies were laughing at him...

GravatarIt was probably Texas' finest twigs "n seeds. Neil later stole his stash.

GravatarI am a partisan hack.

We should legalize weed and sell it to weak willed Europeans to cover our budget deficits.

We could also have a weed based mutual fund for SS accounts.

Smoke pot

GravatarAhh, new thread. What's this about Chimp and the weed? Ahh crap I can see it all now.

Winger: Well, at least W admitted it and didn't try to claim he didn't inhale.

Winger: What's with the hipocrisy libs, don't you all do dope all the time?

Winger: You're just jealous 'cause we got Rather.

Winger: Where'd you hear that from 60 minutes?

and on and on and on.....

I have an angle I need to persue, and it means that I might be able to stop fretting over the fact that doublethink rules in the wingnutosphere. It'll be long form so I'll post it at my sorry-ass excuse for a blog on about Tuesday or so.

And, Captain? Where'd you go?

GravatarJeez, Col Bat - great minds!!!

Gravatarjust an fyi,
i posted a list of review articles on gender differences in spatial cognition on the summers thread. I mention it here because that thread is now so long and tedious i was afraid that what might be interesting info would be lost.

GravatarOh, there you are. Crossed in the mail as it were.

GravatarWhatawastaweed.

GravatarWell, Bush sure as shit didn't make any sort of committment to the noble weed. Granted, pot doesn't work for everyone...or, frankly, most people. Way too many potheads I know use it to shut their minds down rather than open them up. Might as well drink liquor, if that's the case.

Personally, I live for the day we have a man or woman in the White House who said "Yeah, I did pot. Had a fucking blast, too. You ever listen to gospel music stoned? Oh, man...you gotta, I mean, seriously."

GravatarDavid Asman sucks!

GravatarAnd me a Georgie used to drop ludes, cover ourselves with corn oil and go for hot anal back in my SMU days.

Next time you see my butt, visualize

GravatarRight here...looks like I just blew my chance to get anything done anyway. The computer lab just closed, and I probably won't walk across campus to the other one.

Sloth and blogsurfing win again!!

GravatarLaura B: EWWWWW.....

GravatarSo was Gannon sneaking drugs into the WH for Lame Duckie and using the "reporter" thing as a cover?

GravatarHecate: I LIKE it!!

GravatarBackslider,

What you said.

GravatarHey, GWPDA, if you're around, thanks for the link to the AzRepublic article about the lawsuit to replace the trustees of the United Effort Plan. I've been saying for a long time that Jeffs and the whole bunch ought to be removed for running a criminal enterprise (underage marriage, child abuse, welfare fraud, among other things) and hopefully this will keep Jeffs from selling off the property and taking the money. I also found an article on the KSL-TV website about how the FLDS is building a concrete temple in West Texas. It's not exactly small.

Gravatar4:20's a good time to say: Fuck Bush.

Gravatarooooh Bush and weed...explains Afghanistan in a whole new light don't it?

GravatarAnyone have a Gannon 2005 Beefcake calendar ?

I'll trade you an Ann Coulter reveals all for the GOP.

GravatarI'll bet Bush was the biggest bogart ever.

five words:
Tough stance on drug crime.

Before the 2000 election we found a site of cocaine possession convicts serving life sentences, writing letters to Govna about the fairness and balance of the Texan penal system.

GravatarIf DWD is around enjoyed his rant on the CPAC thread. Have a question for you or any other educators.

I'm on a literacy board that oversees a one-on-one after-school tutoring program for 1st-2nd graders. Most are out of the Chapter 1 program. Our director and parent coordinator think this year is the worst since our program started almost 15 years ago. The children are very needy; but not just poor needy, but also starved for attention.

Is this just occuring in our area or is this a larger problem? By the way, all our tutors are volunteers from the community and a good mix of male/female, ranging from highschoolers to one in her 80's.

GravatarBush ever sign any forms stating he'd never broken any laws?

GravatarHow bout another post on Gannon.

Quick, it's dying on us!!!

GravatarTo steal a bit from Maher:

NEW RULE: Any time spent on blogs where you learn something you didn't know before is credited to your life span and you don't actually age during that time.

GravatarBush and weed...

I don't care if Bush smoked weed, he is a fucking weed. One that must be yanked lest he destroy everything.

GravatarWhat I noticed was (here's the weird part) how gangsta rappers remind me of current conservatives...they're both violent, mysoginistic, and gay-hating, they have both co-opted and destroyed the reputation of a valid form of expression....

We can start having a heated argument about this if you want.

Here is a picture of Ice Cube with an AK-47.

GravatarSpeaking of desperate...

GravatarBecause we all know, it's not the drug use, it's the lying under oath. Just sayin'

GravatarI'll trade you an Ann Coulter reveals all for the GOP.

Yuck, cooties....I wouldn't pay or trade anything to see that.

GravatarI wonder off topic a bit but, I wonder what Laura thinks about sharing a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that shared a dick that is not a journalist.

Gravatar Has anyone here EVER checked out your blog?

I didn't think so.
JftB

Word.

GravatarOld Hat:

I never know what to make of Ice-T and his offspring. He's obviously a pretty good self-promoter, as he was able to go from having the cops officially revile his ass over "Cop Killer", to playing one on L & O.

As for my comment: One reason this occurs to me is the airy, self-important attitude of my former asshole boss, who dismissed rap without having the slightest knowledge about it. Some of these guys strike me as jerks, but I've never had a hardon for that music genre. Things are always more complicated than some people make them out to be.

GravatarJeff's my illegal son.

Smoke pot

GravatarGetting dark up in Columbus and nary a glimpse of the falcons today. Just a few grisly scraps of last night's dinner on their ledge. I think it was a pigeon.

GravatarAww, Alan...so good of you to rescue the lost and desperate.

GravatarGranted, pot doesn't work for everyone...or, frankly, most people. Way too many potheads I know use it to shut their minds down rather than open them up.

yeah, I think pot can be a real positive thing, but it's wrapped up in a negative aspect of the culture- because it;s persecuted- so that if you're smoking pot, there's a fair chance that your total lifestyle, on balance, is not very proactive or positive, so as a result your pot-use, as well, turns into just another thing that's mucky in your life instead of something that's appreciated, not overdone, and something that you try to make the absolute most out of.

I think I'd go so far as to say that you're missing out if you've never been stoned; but doing it too often gets to be a drag.

Having said all that, I'll just add I haven't smoked in maybe 6 years!

But it's important for the left to stick up for marijuana more, I think. Marijuana needs to be completely removed from any culture of violence and it's a shame that anyone should have to go to jail for marijuana possession. Legalization is the answer. I think criminalization is an aspect of social control.

GravatarGAAAAAAAAAAAAANON!!!!!!!!!!!

GravatarAnd Andrea can't keep her hands off of Jeff.

Have to go redesign SS

Smoke pot

GravatarDoesn't look like elections have brought peace to Iraq. Civil war should start within the next month or two.

GravatarAtrios - it's awfully nice of you to come and open threads for us when you're busy.

thanks.

GravatarDoesn't look like elections have brought peace to Iraq. Civil war should start within the next month or two.

Ba'al......that's not the official party line. Powerline's going to call you a traitor.

GravatarNo, I believe in THIS IS AWESOME

GravatarHello Eschatonians. Been out in the cold all day. Does Atrios still hate his mother?

GravatarNot all art speaks meaningfully to all men. Not much art speaks to any other age but its own. Yet art it is, and in that, it is good enough. Disco may suck but I still liked a little of it.

GravatarBackslider - Personally, I live for the day we have a man or woman in the White House who said "Yeah, I did pot. Had a fucking blast, too. You ever listen to gospel music stoned? Oh, man...you gotta, I mean, seriously."

That day is coming. I am getting a lot of signals lately that marijuana is going to be legal for medical use sooner rather than later. From there, it shouldn't take long for generalize the legality. The Dallas paper had an oped today in favor of legalizing it in Texas for medical purposes. I really think we're on the cusp.

Gravataras opposed to michel sauvage weiner, who loves his mother...

GravatarGAAAAAAAAAAAAANON!!!!!!!!!!!

GravatarWhat's with you Americans and your social security debate? You're forgetting the important issues.

Specifically, the NHL has cancelled the hockey season twice this week. TWICE!

GravatarBAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday a string of attacks killing more than 50 Iraqis in two days were failed attempts to sow sectarian strife and destabilize the country.

Why can't Hilliary just keep her fucking mouth shut. I'm sorry Hilliary lovers, but I just don't understand this woman.

Gravatar"The call has come down from Unca Karl! Use reverse psychology! That'll learn them!"

I'm waiting for cold sores to start appearing WH staffers lips ala Spinal Tap.

GravatarRes Ipsa,
He hates his mom AND apple pie. Personally, I've never met his mom.

Otherwise, it's been a kind of gray, low-hanging, name-stealing, trolly day.

GravatarThat day is coming. I am getting a lot of signals lately that marijuana is going to be legal for medical use sooner rather than later.

Legalize and tax the hell out of it and you could fund every after school program in America for 10 years.

GravatarSwan,
I don't know how deep one can get into the "lifestyle" - whatever that means - before it "takes over" one's life...whatever that means. I know plenty of cats who smokes shit-tons of pot and nevertheless manage to get up for work, take care of their families and do a whole lot more than just sit around smoking pot. They just do it stoned. Then again, I know plenty of folks who all they do is get as seriously fucked up as possible as often as possible. Generally, though, these are the same folks who get fucked up on cough medicine and horse tranquilizers. Rarely do the two mix, unless one's buying from the other.

I wonderful if the main thing drugs do, if you really get into them, is expose just how much bullshit modern life really is. All the trappings - money, power, prestige - none of it really matters. The first group, I like to think, accepts the revelation and then goes out and enjoys life. The latter try to fuck themselves up to shut life out. And then there's people still caught up in the Game but have no idea why they're so fuckin' miserable.

And pot is illegal, lest we forget, while booze and cigarettes are not only legal to buy but almost encouraged. Then there's the multitude of fix-it pills like Zoloft and Viagra and Prozac, guaranteed cure-alls for every little problem in your life, dammit, believe us!

I often wonder if the government's not so much pissed about people taking drugs and more upset about who's getting the money for it. I can grow weed in my closet if I so chose to, and the government - despite what it claims - doesn't care for folks enjoying life without properly paying for the privilage.

That's why I hope that even if pot is legalized, the fuckin' corporate-toady government stays out of it. They fuck everything else up.

GravatarJeff has just been hired to be the new White House Chef.

Lay off the weiner jokes

GravatarNYMary ... My sympathies. At least we know Atrios loves his freaking country, unlike some people!

GravatarMORE GANON!!!

GravatarMaybe Jose Canseco smoked a doobie with Dubya in the Texas Rangers bathroom stalls.

not that there's anything wrong with that

Gravatarin looking at music threads in the lefty blogosphere, there seems to be a dislike of rap. I tink it's really valid cultural criticism- and not only that 'conscious' crapola from the likes of Common or Kanye West. Stuff like NWA, early Ice Cube, even to the more current stuff........

who knows, i lost interest in this midway through....

Gravatar"Getting dark up in Columbus and nary a glimpse of the falcons today."

How'd I miss this? I'm in Cleveland. We get sharp-shinned, Coopers and red tails staking out the feeders but never saw a falcon.

Of course, we have a split level...not a high rise. Tell more.

GravatarWhat's wrong with what Hillary said?

Attacks on Shiites -- well, are efforts to sow sectarian strife.

GravatarAs White House Chef, I will keep the corn oil ready for Laura.

Flex,Flex Flex

GravatarThere is absolutely no doubt the bush baby thinks everyone should be educated, take this article for instance, http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATIO...23/pell.grants/

I feel very educated. Don't you? I'm waiting for Bush to do a three part speech regarding these cuts, they probably will be titled:
Part 1) Bite me,
Part 2) Bite me some more,
&
Part 3) Coping with failing educational resources (and how to bite me...)

Gravatarso I guess Big Pharma is going to Afghanistan to lose the "hillbilly" moniker?

Gravatar>The call has come down from Unca Karl! Use reverse psychology! That'll learn them!"<

Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man of Pennsylvania Ave says...Give me back my Jim/Jeff boy toy or I'll shit moon pies into the Reflecting Pool.

Gravatar'Slider: Chris Rock had one riff that was pretty much exactly that...i.e. it's OK for powerful white guys to get rich off drugs, but not poor-assed brown or black guys.

GravatarThe Dutch logic of legalization was not hedonism or tolerance or any of the silly frilly non-reasons our airheaded tabloid media salon is so ready with. They said, "Look, it's all very well and good for the US to play cowboy like they always have, but be serious for a moment. The 'drug war' is a joke, it's like the high priest revealing that God wants money to go to the high priest, it accomplishes nothing good and is very expensive without any kind of profit. We simply cannot afford this tomfoolery any more than we can afford the tomfoolery of the arms race or star wars or the more expensive nonsense of lacking civilized socialized medicine." If we were serious about drugs, we would
-"cut off Al Capone's legs" so to speak with legalization
-end the nasty deaths celebrated in the commercials by regulating product (no more rat poison sold as ecstacy)
-treat addicts like people suffering a disease and not criminals who can magically make themselves better at any time (but choose to endure out of ungodly pride)

GravatarHow did Gannon get his start in DC? Could it be that his WH contact was initally a customer?

GravatarCan't have him...He's in charge of the corn oil and qualudes.

GravatarOld Hat - Legalize and tax the hell out of it and you could fund every after school program in America for 10 years

I've been saying this myself - license the shit out of it, like liquor, tax the shit out of it and bingo - no more deficit.

GravatarAs White House Chef, I will keep the corn oil ready for Laura.

GravatarThere is very little that is more displeasing to Ba'al than Democrats, who are now the opposition party, trying to appear statesmanlike. In the process they defend the undefendable, and thereby find themselves at odds -- along with Chimpco -- with the rest of the world. In the end they like morons.

Why do they continue to make this mistake? There is absolutely nothing to be gained by this. They have a FUCKING moral duty to criticize and obstruct the agenda of this administration as much as possible.

GravatarI've got stuff I gotta do now. Check in later.

Just remember everytime you feed a troll
Goldberg hits the bar wired to the pleasure center of his brain.

GravatarHey Mr Troll

I'll move on to Alan Greenspan and Andrea. He needs the ludes and corn oil more than Laura.

Gravatarin looking at music threads in the lefty blogosphere, there seems to be a dislike of rap. I tink it's really valid cultural criticism- and not only that 'conscious' crapola from the likes of Common or Kanye West. Stuff like NWA, early Ice Cube, even to the more current stuff...

NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" was classic
American Gothic.

That Common/Mos Def "conscious" neo-soul hip hop is self-righteous crap most of the time.

Tupac was the greatest because he could do both well.

Give me a T.I. or a Jay-Z over Talib Kweli any day.

GravatarRe: Recreational Uses of Cannabis

Marijuana use is stigmatized, reprobated, and sanctioned for one reason and one reason alone: when under the influence of its wondrous chemical actifacients, it is invariably possible for the user to detect the effort to suppress any truth in the discourse of someone not under that benign and benificent influence.

Mostly, stoned people just laugh at liars. Unless they persist, thinkin' they're pulling one over on us. Then the jollity can acquire an edge, so to speak...

i'd love to hang around and discuss this compelling subject, but i gotta go do a good deed; and we all know, no good deed goes unpunished. My punishment's Bushian in its malignity: enforced ablogstinence... at least for this interlude

literally, an interlude is a space between play...

until at least tomorrow, then...

cheers, chers

GravatarBa'al proposes a quantitative measure of Democratic effectiveness. It is the number of words devoted by Bob Novak to his diseaased ravings to the effect that Democrats should capitulate completely and start to act like Republicans. The higher that number, the higher the Democrati effectiveness.

Based on that, Ba'al is very pleased with Howard Dean's start as head of DNC.

GravatarThat kinda reminds me--how's Laura doing with that "save the poor little poor inner city kids from gang bangin" thing? I haven't heard. Is she done yet? And is not-Jenna teaching those same kids yet? Or was it Jenna who was gonna save them.

GravatarTena
And also release all those folks in prison on pot related charges. God knows what we're payin' to feed/house those folks.

GravatarI like Ice Cube. He's sharp and he seems really genuine. I heard him interviewed and I really liked what he said.

I like rap, too, but there are lousy rappers and rap just like there's lousy rock, pop, and classical.

GravatarOld Hat and Tena are perhaps doing something foolish: discussing American economics without mentioning the big green (or lately sand) monster pulling the cart. The deficit is not an accident, the deficit is the point. And it is only justice to pay for schools not from any new money source but from the wasted funds dumped down the five-sided incinerator hole by killing the empire. Which will happen around the same time the alcoholics in Congress legalize it.

GravatarI've been saying this myself - license the shit out of it, like liquor, tax the shit out of it and bingo - no more deficit.

This sounds weird but huge stretches of America have the best climate for weed crops. America could become to marijuana production what France is to wine production.

GravatarIIRC, the Dutch did not legalize pot, they like to say it is not illegal, or some such phrasing. I know, parsing...

GravatarYou know this whole thing about Bush smoking pot and snorting coke in the 70s reminds me of the old the Penthouse Forum letters I devoured when I was a kid. About half of them seemed to start with some sort of wild, partying substance abuse scene which ultimately led to a little nooky-nooky. Now the kicker here for me is that a certain portion of those drug oriented letters also had elements of male experimentation with bisexuality, which Penthouse seemed to be pushing as a minor editorial priority at the time. Given this whole Gannon thing, along with chronic White House pathological homophobia, along with that picture of Bush shaking hands with a gay porn star that was floating around the internet a couple of years ago...well, I sure would loooove to see some sort of coke addled bisexual skeleton in bell-bottoms fall out of an Oval Office closet sometime.

Now, that would be something to send into Penthouse!

Gravatarjdw - the Department of Natural Resources has a couple of webcams on a ledge on the Rhodes Tower where there's a peregrine falcon nest box. I'm usually watching a floating window from that if I'm on the computer during daylight. They also have info about other peregrine nest sites around the state; I'm pretty sure there are several in metro Cleveland. I've gotten over to Russell KY to see falcons on the Ironton bridge a couple times.

GravatarIf the Democrats fail to follow Howard Dean's lead -- to give no ground on any issue, ever -- than the so-called "center" in this country will move even farther to the right.

It is long past time for viscious, sarcastic, and brutal personal attacks. The enemy is Tom Delay and George Bush. The country cannot be allowed to go where they want to lead us.

GravatarI miss Tupac so much. That guy had it all - I love the movie he made with Tim Roth - it was hilarious. [Too bad I can't remember what it was called...]

GravatarIIRC, the Dutch did not legalize pot, they like to say it is not illegal, or some such phrasing. I know, parsing...

Decriminalization = Cops don't enforce the law on the books, technically illegal, no taxes or on the books regulation.

Legalization = Laws on the books, taxed, regulated.

IIRC.

Gravatarwhen under the influence of its wondrous chemical actifacients, it is invariably possible for the user to detect the effort to suppress any truth in the discourse of someone not under that benign and benificent influence.

Indeed, your own ponderous prolix pontification compels copious cannabinoid cacchination.

GravatarOld Hat - What I was trying to say.

Gravatarkei & yuri,
That's all very nice and logical, but the U.S. government and it's various corporate subsidiaries stand to still make a shit-ton of money on the "drug war" while at the same time filling folks up with the fix-it pills to take care of their poopy moods, flagging boners and bald spots. A whole lot of folks got a whole lot of money invested in the Grand Illusion and you threaten that money, they'll slit your fucking throat...while claiming to do it "for the children".

Anyone remember a certain anonymous troll who came in late one night and went totally apeshit about pot smokers? He said, basically, my philosophy of life was "live high or die", yet never answered why he was fighting to illegalize alcohol or cigarettes. The government pretends to care for you, but you can buy shotguns and bullets at Wal-Mart at four in the morning and a carton of Marlboro Lights. The government doesn't give a shit about you. Demonizing pot is just another way to keep folks stirred up and preventing them from realizing that.

GravatarI like Ice Cube....I miss Tupac so much. That guy had it all

oh man, too funny!

GravatarIn the Netherlands, I think marijuana/small amounts of psychedelic mushrooms are decriminalized while prostitution is legalized (the women have to be licensed, health inspections, etc.).

GravatarOld Hat - This sounds weird but huge stretches of America have the best climate for weed crops. America could become to marijuana production what France is to wine production.

I can see this happening eventually. How many people who aren't either elderly or nutty do you know who think marijuana is a terrible drug? When the next generation takes power, if it isn't already legal, they'll make it legal, IMO.

GravatarYes but our point was a larger one that sort of crowns that like wispy clouds: among the gambits run by the government are the drug racket, the public interest (which actually turns out to be the corporate interest, yeah, sorry about that, now about moving your house so we can build a new office, yeah, we're going to need you to...) racket--and the permanent war economy racket, the last of which is bigger than any of the others, is the driving force behind and at once the main tool of the others.

GravatarI like Ice Cube. He's sharp and he seems really genuine. I heard him interviewed and I really liked what he said.

Tena, go check out the lyrics to "Givin' up the nappy dugout" and get back to us on that one.

GravatarWe are currently working on a new pot that keeps people paranoid.

They smoke the weed, they get all giggly and horny, but there's a nagging doubt planted in the weed.

They will need a strong leader in a designer outfit to keep them secure.

GravatarAssmissile or buttplugrocket or whatever his name is admitted to voting for Jimmy Carter. He said this today on his Minneapolis radio show that he does with the guy from the hindquarters blog.

Not too big a deal, but ...
Flippety-floop.

Gravatarand the permanent war economy racket, the last of which is bigger than any of the others, is the driving force behind and at once the main tool of the others.

Yeah, I'll definately give you that. There's always money to be made from killin' people. Who or why you kill is basically irrelevant, as long as there's a buck to be made. And if 20 years down the line, the children of the survivors are pissed off enough to be a bother...great! Might just be the last field of bidness in America that's got any sort of stability.

GravatarGlad to hear about Rachel Ray-she was getting a little long in the tooth! (grabs coat and hat and runs to work yelling, "Just kidding!)

GravatarYes, Dutch prostitutes carry a health card and have to be checked every so many days for diseases. They also have clean needle programs. They have made some effort to slow down the renting of apts for hydroponic growing after pressure from other EU countries (appears to be mostly for show). 60 minutes or one of those shows had an excellent expose on all the hydroponic growing a couple years ago. One apt could yield something like a million dollars or so of high grade hydroponic pot a year.

GravatarThat guy had it all

*Had* being the operative word.

GravatarTupac and Tim Roth movie - Gridlock

I really want to see it again - I only saw it once and that's been quite awhile ago.

GravatarTarzan, come on. She can cook and she's cute.

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

This is so true.

GravatarWHT: I believe the canonical names are 'Asscracker' and 'Twiglet'.

GravatarThanks, Ahianne. I'll check that out! I knew they had them nesting in downtown Cleve, but didn't know they had a webcam up!

"You know this whole thing about Bush smoking pot and snorting coke in the 70s reminds me of the old the Penthouse Forum letters I devoured when I was a kid."

Haha. "I'm a freshman at a small midwestern college and until last week I never had much blah, blah, blah.....I came in buckets."

Gravatar"And I never even learned her name"

Gravatar"I tink it's really valid cultural criticism- and not only that 'conscious' crapola from the likes of Common or Kanye West"

I just don't 'get' rap, despite liking almost all other forms of music and also liking The Last Poets.

It could be a generational thing...just like my parents didn't even know how to approach the stuff I listened to and liked back in the 60's-70's.

GravatarOk couldn't resist. one of my favorite stories is how my grandmother (brought up on a Canadian farm) would slave away cooking dinner and one time she grew tired of waiting for the perfunctory "oh how delicious" and finally asked how it was. apparently Gramps was really tired that evening
and sarcastically replied, "Well I'm eatin ain't I?".

GravatarTarzan,
My mom was like that. She told me a few years back that it sort of hurt her feelings my dad, my brother and I never lavished praise on her cooking after every meal. Momma's a damn fine cook, and we told her and other people that a bunch, but it was the timing, aparently.

I told her, "Momma. How many times did you have leftovers? How many times did you have to replace dinner plates because ate so hard, the ones we were using went skidding off the table?" Appreciate was expressed by food being slap gone at the end of suppertime, but there is timing to consider.

GravatarThe way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

This is so true.
pie

I can think of a few other ways.

Gravatarin looking at music threads in the lefty blogosphere, there seems to be a dislike of rap. I tink it's really valid cultural criticism-

Great. So write it down in a fucking book and quit torturing my ears with a bunch of monotone yammering over a programmed drumbeat.

IT'S NOT MUSIC!

GravatarPharoah Monch in "Rape" (track 4, internal affairs) uses rape as a metaphor for his forceful conquest and steady control of the medium of rap. Elsewhere in the same song he uses theft as a simile for manipulating a jury, and of course everyone uses murder as a hyperbole for great success (it killed, it slew them).
This is how we know rap is art (orature, to use Asanti's term, as opposed to literature): parts you get, parts you see genius in, and then you come against something that, like a God who twiddles his thumbs during the Holocaust, might be intellectually "explained" by some Philosophy prof but which you can never accept as anything but worthlessly deliberately obscene.

GravatarTHREAD?? Pern is in danger...TO THE WEIR!

GravatarI don't know if it's been covered already but....

"In Secretly Taped Conversations, Glimpses of the Future President"
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

Click homepage for link...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 - As George W. Bush was first moving onto the national political stage, he often turned for advice to an old friend who secretly taped some of their private conversations, creating a rare record of the future president as a politician and a personality. In the last several weeks, that friend, Doug Wead, an author and former aide to Mr. Bush's father, disclosed the tapes' existence to a reporter and played about a dozen of them. Variously earnest, confident or prickly in those conversations, Mr. Bush weighs the political risks and benefits of his religious faith, discusses campaign strategy and comments on rivals...."

There's more......

GravatarCovered in the first ten postings in this thread, and hilarious commentary on it throughout. Homepage has kos article.

People are suggesting this is a distraction tactic.

an unofficial Israeli military motto.

GravatarAttacks on Shiites -- well, are efforts to sow sectarian strife.
noni

How do you know that? Because CNN told you? Did you ask the "terra-ists" why they were bombing Shiites?

The US is "required" to maintain military occupation of Iraq until security and stability is established. (even though out of the other side of the Bushevik two-faced lyin' mouths comes the argument that since Syria cannot provide stability in Lebanon after 1 car bomb that Syria should end the military occupation of Lebanon and the Syrian-backed government should quit.)

And I'm deeply puzzled why these Iraqi "terra-ists" are kidnapping journalists, when every insurgent manual in the world tells of trying to curry favour with journalists to win the propaganda war.

GravatarSo, tomorrow a major character on "The Simpson's" comes out of the closet. Your guess?

Mine is Marge's sister Patty. (Lenny and Carl are just to obvious).

GravatarThen again it might be movie star Troy McClure (you might remember me from...)- his marriage to Patty was a career-induced sham.

GravatarHecate was right--Junior's pot daze do not matter to the people of the lamb. That a Kerry did pot does matter to them because Kerry does not offer himself up on the altar of fundie forgiveness. It is all about how one absolves sin and for many in Americur, few Dems could ever and I mean EV-ER meet their standards. Trying to run-down Dumbya for pot is a dead-end. A gay ho' might be another matter... But even then, the fundies will just absolve Bush of the sin of ignorance and they will not suspect a thing and defend him all the more.

GravatarJonah Goldberg or Ben Shapiro or some sort of weird Jonah Golberg/Ben Shapiro hybrid monster...

GravatarInhofe is still going to intimidate the opposition by reviewing tax returns. No stopping this guy.... Inhofe is an ass

Gravatar"Too much wine"????

How much would that be???

IMHO, there is no such thing, these days.

Gravatar>So, tomorrow a major character on "The Simpson's" comes out of the closet. Your guess?

It can't be Smithers. He's never been in.

GravatarBackslider, depression is much more than poopy moods. It is a black cloud that takes over your life. It is a disease, and if a biochemical corrective can help you face the normal ups and downs of life, so be it.

Now as for GWB, maybe it wasn't the pot he was smoking. Maybe somebody laced that pot with something very powerful that still hasn't worn off.

GravatarThat a Kerry did pot does matter to them because Kerry does not offer himself up on the altar of fundie forgiveness. It is all about how one absolves sin and for many in Americur, few Dems could ever and I mean EV-ER meet their standards.

John Kerry is a devout Catholic who takes a Bible and a rosary with him on his travels, and he may well have confessed his pot smoking to a priest. But it's all for nought, in the mind of a true Bush believer, because true repentance would have made him a rt-winger.
