I often wonder if the government's not so much pissed about people taking drugs and more upset about who's getting the money for it. I can grow weed in my closet if I so chose to, and the government - despite what it claims - doesn't care for folks enjoying life without properly paying for the privilage.
That's why I hope that even if pot is legalized, the fuckin' corporate-toady government stays out of it. They fuck everything else up.
Yeah, I agree. Look at how weed operates now- it's a totally decentralized, "do it yourself" thing like homemade crafts. That would be an awesome thing if you could keep any violent elements out of it, that is, by making it legal- but- I wish there was some way to keep the corporations out of dealing it, if it became legal. Sounds like a pipe-dream to me.

In Secretly Taped Conversations, Glimpses of the Future President
He paid particular attention to Senator John Ashcroft. "I like Ashcroft a lot," he told Mr. Wead in November 1998. "He is a competent man. He would be a good Supreme Court pick. He would be a good attorney general. He would be a good vice president."
...
Mr. Bush could hardly contain his disdain for Mr. Gore, his Democratic opponent, at one point calling him "pathologically a liar." His confidence in the moral purpose of his campaign to usher in "a responsibility era" never wavered, but he acknowledged that winning might require hard jabs. "I may have to get a little rough for a while," he told Mr. Wead, "but that is what the old man had to do with Dukakis, remember?" http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/2...ics/

I really, really do wonder how Mr G. made the transition from being a 'hot, hard, large sized, forceful top' in November 2002 to asking Ari Fleischer questions in February 2003.

Guys with goatees, black jeans, black boots (Beatniks!), girls with knit wool sweaters, nary a speck of makeup for blocks, confused looking guys with young kids and eyes going in two directions, lots of rolling backpacks and down coats. I noticed the clone phenomenon watching a little of CSPAN this afternoon. Pat Robertson was the speaker. He warned about homosexuality and pornography. He had venom in his eyes behind a fake smile. They all did. He would have mentioned adultery too if half his audience wasn't divorced and remarried and according to Jesus himself, living in a state of adultery. More that half the fundies squatted up in church are living in adultery according to the bible. Somehow that's never brought up during church service, though. Ask Jeffers what Jesus himself said about divorcing and remarrying sometime. Then ask him what Jesus said about homosexuality.

Back when George Hebert Walker Bush was in office I took a train from New York to Washington DC. After a couple of hours inadvertantly overhearing the people in the seat in front of me bragging about whom they knew in the White House, etc. I turned to my fundimentalist Christian seatmate and said that I had never thought I would wish that we would have First Class cars on the train, but if it meant we wouldn't have to listen to folks like those it seemed like a good idea. Pine Lake Larry - we reckon Arturo just had his fourth birthday - (he got his own gasoline credit card for the occasion, so that he won't be stranded). He is a bonemouth shar-pei, which is the original variety - not overbred, not requiring intervention, in other words, he's a good old farm dog and should last around 12 years or more, depending on whether or not I take care of him.... Right now he's on a diet - he's about ten pounds too heavy, which is my fault entirely because the spectacle of that doggy with his wrinkles being not filled up just hurt my heart. I know better however, and he will soon return to a good, loose fighting weight. I've promised him that if he loses the weight I'll buy him a farm and something really nice to chase.

I have to agree with this. Mr. LJ never notices when women are flirting with him. When I point it out to him, he always says, Uh-unh! No way!
I remind him that I know a flirt when I see one. Because I'm one.
But he just floats through the whole thing, oblivious to it all. What's weird is that it took a flirt as outrageous as me to get his attention. Go figure.

This whole picture-posting thing reminds me of website put up by lefties in the (incredibly lame) AOL From the Left chatrooms. The lefties all had the site creator post celebrity pics as their photos. My pic was Demi Moore, the nude one from the poster for Strip Tease. And a lot of people didn't catch on to the celebrity pics!
Then people got really creative with the pictures for the room trolls - circus freaks, Deliverance types, etc. Made up profiles for them and everything. One of the more memorable, written about a famously obsessed homophobe, had his quote as "Dear God, why can't I stop thinking about the paperboy?"
Some of the trolls lost their freaking minds (what little they had to begin with) over this website. They complained to the webhosts. Some even threatened legal action, because someone had made their screenname the object of satire.
Good times, good times.

Look at all the cables, you can process 10 suspects with a push of a button, no more winding up the generator by hand, with state of the art controls for overload and auto-sensing drop sensors, current flows without interruption. It comes with an optional back up battery system when used in those war zones with notorious unreliable power. Order now and they will toss in a free PDA with the admin and monitoring application pack. Send your victims vitals to the PDA and you are never without stats to compare with your fellow interrogators. Just imagine during those off duty happy hours when you can boast about frying nads off of a suspect and then whip out your PDA and back yourself up with the numerous log entries you may select to be gathered. Groups critical of Bush's Clear Skies plan told to turn over records
As bill stalls, senator asks for tax documents
Los Angeles Times
WASHINGTON - The chairman of a Senate committee that oversees environmental issues has directed two national organizations that oppose President Bush's major clean-air initiative to turn over their financial and tax records to the Senate.
Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., who heads the Environment and Public Works Committee, asked for the documents 10 days after a representative of the two groups criticized Bush's Clear Skies proposal before a Senate subcommittee.
Inhofe is the leading sponsor of the administration bill, which is deadlocked in his panel.
The executive director of the two organizations, which represent state and local air-pollution control officials, charged that the request was an attempt to intimidate critics of the measure. Democratic senators on Inhofe's committee also were dismayed by his action but declined to say so publicly because they are in the midst of sensitive negotiations with the chairman on the legislation, staffers said.

Ba'al that is amazing. Personally, for something like this, there should be no sensitive negotiations if all players are in it for the public good. And I am sorry, when something like this happens and is so blatant, the sensitive negotiations become irrelevant. Everyone involved who feels that Inhofe's actions are harrassment and without moral footing should get up leave and find the nearest press office and start raging and raising hell. That is why we are in the situation we are in now, they do not, too much self-interest.

I think it's time for a song!
Here's a ditty by one of my very favorite heterosexuals -- Frank Loesser!
(My favorite version is by the great Bob Dorough.)
I get the neck of the chicken
I get the rumble seat ride
I get the leaky umbrella
Everyone shoves me aside
When I jump in my shower each morn'
Sure as fate,
I'm too late,
All the hot water is gone
I get the neck of the chicken
I get that burnt piece of toast
I get that seat in the movies
Smacko! in back of the post
That's why I can't get over this dream that came true
If I get the neck of the chicken
How did I ever get you?
I get the neck of the chicken
That's how they give me the bird
And in the family snapshot
Mine is the face that's all blurred
When morning paper comes to the door
Sure as fate,
I'm too late
And they're mine long about four
I get the neck of the chicken
I get the plate with the crack
I get those evenings with Granma
Everyone else can relax
That's why I can't get over this fine howdy-do
If I get the neck of the chicken
How did I ever get you?

Poems, songs, surprise presents from college students are wonderful, even moving, things to receive. But I'm teaching HS these days, and Thursday I had a visit from an ex-dropout (yes) who cleaned up his drug habit and came to visit and show me he's O.K. That happens a lot with these kids, and it always gets me choked up.

From Storrs, _Orientations_, 1937
"The lavish modernity of Wells's filing and reduplicating apparatus was my first glimpse of the extent to which people will let themselves go over stationery when they do not have to pay for it themselves, and was in sharp contrast with the primitive and pleasant haphazardly of the Secretariat."
The more things change, peut-etre....
NYMary? That happened exactly -once- in my world of UCLA, John Wooden and a different time. At the start of an exam I was proctoring, some clown from the athletic department wanted to 'help me' by telling me which of the students were athletes. I could only look at him stupidly, and tell him to go away since the exam was beginning. Later I told John Galbraith about it and assured me that he would 'take care' of such interference. I learnt later that he'd taken care of it by calling Wooden in to a meeting with the appropriate Dean and then beaten Wooden about the head and shoulders.

Re: Working for a grade
This the story of the only time I ever received a direct come-on from a female student.
It was thanksgiving, and the young woman in question was a petite, but well-packed blonde young woman of perhaps 19. She had a well developed leer and wore deeply scooped sweaters to class--when she attended, which was rarely, and which was part of the problem. Because it was a praxis class--teaching reading across the curriculum--a certain amount of participation was vital. She had not availed herself of the opportunities, and she had finally gotten around to reading the syllabus and discovered that those wasted opportunities amounted to about 30 percent of the grade.
So, before class, she asked if she could meet with me after claass to 'discuss' her problem. I agreed. She sat in the front row and leered at me occasionally, so I had a pretty good idea of what might ensue.
Sure enough, upon arriving at the floor of my office, she excused herself for the ladies room, while i sought my office. I was behind my desk when she appeared in a few minutes. She had one of those foil gift bags, like the ones you put wine bottles in. She handed it to me. I reached in and withdrew ...yes, her panties.
Which I admired approvingly for a second, before I said: "Well, my dear, these are stunning. Lovely. But I am sorry to say i don't think they are my size..."
She withdrew from the course, and I never saw her again...

In Secretly Taped Conversations, Glimpses of the Future President
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK
WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 - As George W. Bush was first moving onto the national political stage, he often turned for advice to an old friend who secretly taped some of their private conversations, creating a rare record of the future president as a politician and a personality.
In the last several weeks, that friend, Doug Wead, an author and former aide to Mr. Bush's father, disclosed the tapes' existence to a reporter and played about a dozen of them.
Variously earnest, confident or prickly in those conversations, Mr. Bush weighs the political risks and benefits of his religious faith, discusses campaign strategy and comments on rivals. John McCain "will wear thin," he predicted. John Ashcroft, he confided, would be a "very good Supreme Court pick" or a "fabulous" vice president. And in exchanges about his handling of media questions about his past, Mr. Bush appears to have acknowledged trying marijuana.
Mr. Wead said he recorded the conversations because he viewed Mr. Bush as a historic figure, but he said he knew that the president might regard his actions as a betrayal. As the author of a new book about presidential childhoods, Mr. Wead could benefit from any publicity, but he said that was not a motive in disclosing the tapes.
The White House did not dispute the authenticity of the tapes or respond to their contents. Trent Duffy, a White House spokesman, said, "The governor was having casual conversations with someone he believed was his friend." Asked about drug use, Mr. Duffy said, "That has been asked and answered so many times there is nothing more to add."
The conversations Mr. Wead played offer insights into Mr. Bush's thinking from the time he was weighing a run for president in 1998 to shortly before he accepted the Republican nomination in 2000. Mr. Wead had been a liaison to evangelical Protestants for the president's father, and the intersection of religion and politics is a recurring theme in the talks.
Preparing to meet Christian leaders in September 1998, Mr. Bush told Mr. Wead: "As you said, there are some code words. There are some proper ways to say things, and some improper ways." He added, "I am going to say that I've accepted Christ into my life. And that's a true statement."
But Mr. Bush also repeatedly worried that prominent evangelical Christians would not like his refusal "to kick gays." At the same time, he was wary of unnerving secular voters by meeting publicly with evangelical leaders. When he thought his aides had agreed to such a meeting, Mr. Bush complained to Karl Rove, his political strategist, "What the hell is this about?"
Mr. Bush, who has acknowledged a drinking problem years ago, told Mr. Wead on the tapes that he could withstand scrutiny of his past...

I had two students one time that both did really really badly on a test (not an inportant test). They became beligerant and wanted to argue. I stopped the class and asked them to share. They were very vocally indignant because they'd "studied together from midnight to 3AM" the night before the test and had even used flash cards. The class was an 8AM class. When the rest of the students stopped laughing there wasn't much of the matter left to discuss - class resumed.
I don't argue anymore - I hand out rope.

Ah, the lovely Mr. Douglas Wead re-emerges from the underbrush. This is the same Mr. Wead whom -Barry Goldwater- as just about his last political act, described as a Goddamn carpetbagger who should be shown the door. He then endorsed Mr. Wead's opponent for the Congressional seat in Northern Arizona, the charming Karan English, a Democrat.
Arizona is a strange and marvelous place that the Wead and his scum ilk are wise to avoid. We have long memories here, those of us who stay, and we believe in making an impression.

There was loathsome (per usual) discussion of the tapes on Free Republic today. All lockstep for how the private Bush is JUST LIKE HIS PUBLIC SELF and when one loner mentioned cocaine it was same old same old, well that's in his past, and he has admitted he made mistakes. He could be on the tape planning a murder and oh well. I had to wonder as the tape seems so squeaky clean was it planted to couner the suspicions brought up by Guckert access. I'm very sorry to also report I visited Drudge (Lenten sacrifice day apparently) and he had only the CBS opinion piece linked when I checked, with the few comments going both left and right and the right's the usual CBS bashing. I then had a lovely, hot, cleansing long shower (sorry no pics)

Web Site Operator Says He Knew of Reporter's Two Identities
By RALPH BLUMENTHAL
HOUSTON, Feb. 19 - The operator of an activist Republican Web site and news service said Friday night that he had known for two years that his White House correspondent went by two identities.
But the operator, Robert R. Eberle, denied in an interview that the correspondent, Jeff Gannon, whose real name is James D. Guckert, was an administration plant or was given preferential treatment as a Republican partisan to ask soft questions at briefings.

But I meant to ask you: what year did you see the brothers Davies get in a fist fight onstage?
Must have been '73 - they were touring 'Preservation Act I.'
It turns out the punchup was the highlight of that show - the 'Preservation'-era Kinks were horrible. Ray was hammered, Dave was pissed, there were about 9 people in the band.
I went to hear oldies, and got Ray's vaudeville show instead. Second most disappointing concert I've ever been to.
The first most disappointing was when I went to see Yes expecting to see Bill Bruford playing drums, and got Alan White instead. Bruford's drums were as big a part of that band's sound as anderson's voice, and Alan White wrecked it for me.

Then I hear 'bi-coastal' talk...
There's a reason the Republicans get a lot of mileage out of that 'coastal elite' talk around here and elsewhere... it's too often true. Don't forget Poland, er, Minnesota here. (Hence my having voted, when there was voting, for Chicago. Chicago's good. I'll do Philly, but that's just out of deference to the A-man, and if nothing better shows up, I've got family in Harrisburg I could probably crash with if I asked them.)

Mine would have to be the 8-10 hours in the TWA terminal at JFK, as they cancelled flight after flight (in one case *after* we had boarded) to upstate NY, wouldn't let us transfer to another airline, and (as I later discovered) wouldn't tell my family what the hell was going on. They finally put us in cabs. I have never been happier to see an airline go out of business.

Was pondering if Bush might be a replacement for an idealized father figure to these people. He deals in archetypes, gestures and succinct phrasing (salesmanship) that to us seems awkward and out of date, but for some of those people, it epitomizes something they may lack. The real difference between the believer and non-believer (in Bush) may simply be we grew up and past them coupled with a lack of simple gullibility based on ehanced awareness or education.

I'm late to the thread, but has anyone asked this question yet?
Why aren't the college peers of these creeps making fun of them and reforming them with aggressive peer pressure? Has college changed so much since I started in the late '70s?
I went to New College in Sarasota, considered the "crown jewel" of the Florida system (Hahaha), and nobody there could get away with stupidity on any subject for long. Even in rude class, you'd be called out pronto if you volunteere false info or bad logic.
The hazing was (informally) part of the coursework, especially for freshmen who were used to being the smartest guys or gals in their provincial high schools, and you were expected to know your stuff. I got zapped once in class and learned my lesson fast.
Is college so different now? I honestly don't know

Yup, Manhattanite here, too. Upper West Side. I miss it, but there's just no way I can afford to live there in any kind of comfort.
Manhattanite here, though just barely, since I live in Inwood, at the northern tip of the Island and can see The Bronx from my front window.
One thing I found out early on is that while Manhattan Island extends all the way to 220th St., "Manhattan" only includes that part of the island below 96th St. on the East Side and below about 123rd St. on the West Side. Above that is Harlem, and above Harlem are two neighborhoods named Washington Heights and Inwood. These three neighborhoods have traditionally comprised something like an honorary outer borough -- but they also have had the advantage of outer borough housing prices.
In fact, when I was headed out one day, an elderly neighbor of mine asked me if I was "going into Manhattan." I just told him yes, since I knew what he meant.
Things have sorta changed the last half-decade or so. Inwood (at least west of B'way) and the section of Washington Heights renamed (by the real estate folks) "Hudson Heights" have become "hot new neighborhoods." I've lived here for almost two decades now and am glad I decided to buy a co-op apt. while prices were still very low. While they're still lower than "Manhattan," they've roughly sextupled or septupled in the last 8 years.
I've also got torn loyalties, since I was raised in Philly and love my old hometown but I also love NYC. And since I still have family in the Philly area, I visit about 6-8 times a year and keep in touch with what's going on there. And like a true native Philadelphian, I was disappointed that th'Iggles lost the Super Bowl but expected that would happen.
I would've been mighty surprised if they had won

Can we invite some trolls to the big shindig to use as pinatas?
Today’s statement from Senator Hillary Clinton, on tour with John McCain and the Senate Armed Services Committee (here’s a link to the full AP story):
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - As 55 people died in Iraq on Saturday, the holiest day on the Shiite Muslim religious calendar, Sen. Hillary Clinton said that much of Iraq was “functioning quite well” and that the rash of suicide attacks was a sign that the insurgency was failing.
Clinton, a New York Democrat, said insurgents intent on destabilizing the country had failed to disrupt Iraq’s landmark Jan. 30 elections.
“The concerted effort to disrupt the elections was an abject failure. Not one polling place was shut down or overrun,” Clinton told reporters inside the U.S.-protected Green Zone, a sprawling complex of sandbagged buildings surrounded by blast walls and tanks. The zone is home to the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy…
…The fact that you have these suicide bombers now, wreaking such hatred and violence while people pray, is to me, an indication of their failure,” Clinton said.

and the excerpt:
"There's going to be another Ross Perot, and this time he's going to be younger. There's going to be a millionaire rising out of the country somewhere and he (or she) is going to lead a movement of people who are worried about federal deficits, who are offended by the horrendous burden seniors are placing on the young...."
Here's my extremely irritated reply:
"who are offended by the horrendous burden seniors are placing on the young "
Got to tell you, as a senior, I am *offended* that this fucking gov't, in its shameless and criminal profligacy, wants to continue (of COURSE they do!!!) to set one generation upon another and to do any and every thing it can to avoid taking responsibility for the fiscal mess we're in, and that W et al have wrought majorly with their tax cuts for the privileged, both corporate and individual. Any and everyone who looks dispassionately on this country's priorities will easily see that the govt intends to fuck over both the young and the old, and to suck whatever it can out of the middle.
As senior, I most certainly NOT have consciously placed ANY kind of *burden" on the young.
FUCK this bullshit.
I have simply believed in a contract between me and my govt, a covenant, if you will. These goddamned people have seen this coming, but they chose instead to plunder the "trust fund" that had been set aside for SS and to not do what needed to be done to keep SS in place.
And, now... they want to say that , by my existence, by my having trusted my
govt, that I am OF-FUCKING-FENDING the young by the *burden* I am placing on
them.....Oh, Goddamn, BITE ME.
Jesus in a prom dress.
May I now be allowed to sodomize the Bush administration with whatever I have at hand? A vegetable peeler, perhaps? A baseball bat? Cheese grater???
And, yeah, that's how I REALLY feel.

Funny. My background is city too. Baltimore to DC to NYC to LA. But at some point after coming west I moved to a beautiful place called Topanga Canyon and really experienced nature.
Even though I'm back in the *city*, meaning a beach community, I still have the country thing going on. Always will.
The reporter who wasn't is part of a wider press scandal, writes Paul Harris in New York
Sunday February 20, 2005
The Observer
For two years Jeff Gannon cut an unobtrusive figure at White House press conferences. The shaven-headed, craggily handsome man worked for an obscure news agency called Talon News, known for its conservative sympathies. He was often the subject of jokes by colleagues on weightier news organisations.
No one is laughing now, because Gannon was far from being a harmless distraction. He was writing under a false name and working for a Republican front organisation. Suddenly, his 'softball' questions to White House officials looked less like eccentricities and more like plotting by an administration which has frequently displayed a dark mastery of the arts of press control.
When it emerged that Gannon was also linked to gay prostitution websites and might be a gay prostitute himself, the scandal as to how he was allowed daily access to the White House grew even murkier. The American media is now being forced to confront the possibility that Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, was simply a Republican plant, used by officials, including President George W Bush, to ask easy questions in difficult press conferences. 'The idea of having a mole in the White House press corp is amazing, but that's what it looks like,' said Jack Lule, a journalism professor at Lehigh University.
well, maybe tomorrow, i'm going down. not in guckert way or anything...

Why is anyone talking about Hilary Clinton? Because Repugs can't get over her? Well, I've been totally dissatisfied with her ever since the big health care debacle of '93.
She was the big point-lady on that, if you remember, and she botched it entirely, trying to please insurance and drug companies, and not doing that even. They hated her and she did nothing populist to maybe get the "plan" passed.
Now she's a senator and she's pro-war. I can't abide any pro-war senator. Does Hilary think she has to be pro-war to please Jewish voters in NY? Or is she pro-war for real? Either way, shove off, Hilary.
Is there anyone here who actually likes Hilary? The best I can say for her is there are so many shitty R senators, she's not quite as awful by contrast. But she is pro-war, and pro-Rice and pro-Gonzales and pro-Negroponte.

The article is an all-encompassing, thoughtful analysis of what we've been living through. The blatent manipulation of public opinion with repetitive lies, until they stick in the general consciousness is particularly odious. The whole piece is excellent.

Be kind, we were a little buzzed and just got out of the shower.
"They have discovered that a partisan and atomised media can be controlled, manipulated and used to an unprecedented degree."
Yeah, but I'd rather it would be that way. What we have now after constant decades of RW yammering, is a belief by the masses that Media is Liberal...which is absolute, total bullshit. Even 'Liberal' papers are corporate toadies. What newspaper have you ever picked up that has a daily "Labor" section or a "Consumer" section? Answer: none. What counterpoint is there anywehere to the 'wall street urinal'?
So what we have is the worst of both worlds: a corporate media that people 'think' is Liberal. I'd rather newspapers attract readers with blatent partisan bias. None of this bullshit 'fairness' crap that doesn't exist anyway.
Let people pick their poison and be open about it. If people want to 'think' the NYT's is Liberal, give 'em some real reasons for thinking that.

You'd think Rupert Murdoch would laugh all the way to the bank if the liberal magazine The Nation cut a check to conservative Fox News. Here is the best part:
"Asked why Fox rejected The Nation's ad, Fox News Channel spokeswoman Irena Briganti answered, "I guess we're more selective than others.""

Clear Channel adopts liberal programming on growing number of stations
WXDX-AM -- now known as WDTW-AM -- is one of 22 stations owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. that have switched to a liberal talk format in the last year. This month, KTLK-AM in Los Angeles became the latest Clear Channel station to adopt the format.
Those who track broadcasting trends say there's money to be made in liberal talk radio. Todd Webster, a consultant for Washington-based liberal talk show producer Democracy Radio, said Clear Channel is expected to introduce the left-leaning format on 20 more stations by the end of the year. http://www.freep.com/news/

It's pretty hard to argue with that.

"who are offended by the horrendous burden seniors are placing on the young "
As senior, I most certainly NOT have consciously placed ANY kind of *burden" on the young.
And, now... they want to say that , by my existence, by my having trusted my
govt, that I am OF-FUCKING-FENDING the young by the *burden* I am placing on
them.....Oh, Goddamn, BITE ME.
Jesus in a prom dress.
Any historians in the house this late? It is a well known fact that the nazis experimented on their handicapped and expressed beliefs that the old were draining the resources of the young(sons and daughters of the master race).
This nation has been drifting towards a nazi-germany-like state ever since William E. Dodd warned us back in the 1930's that a large number of wealthy industrialists and other corporate tycoons were openly envious of the german state and it's fascist model of efficiency. A model without labor unions or any restrictions on the rich and powerful. Fascism is. afterall. just another name for Corporatism, Mussolini himself stated as such.
We should be wearing symbol-laden armbands and holding bookburnings by 08'.
Aw, that's just because they had the mic hung way up too high, and the engineer had a date and didn't wanna do another take, and everybody was all hungover and...
Legends spring from such mundane stuff.

Sarah: I don't think Clinton (or anyone, really) understood the strength of the rightwing white noise network until he tripped over his dick. Then it was too late. I can't say I ever really ilikedi his politics, but I did admire how he stood up under the onslaught. He seemed to be the same guy he'd always been. Same with Kerry. I *know* Bush would have cracked like an egg had he been subjected to the kind of treatment Clinton, Gore or Kerry recieved. Hillary I liked a lot at first but she hasn't worn well (like you said, the health care fiasco was a wake-up call).

Clinton standing up solo against every right wing vampire in America, every newspaper, every cable "news" show and every puritan moralist fuckhead in America and still beating them and retiring the most popular president was an artful, spectacular political coup.
You've got to hand it to him, for all of his self-destructiveness, he was a political grandmaster.

I like Hillary. I think she's been a good senator, as senators go. She's done pretty well by upstate NY. Also, she pisses off the wingnuts, and I approve of anyone who makes wingnuts throw their weenie tantrums.

It has been revealed that the anti-Christ Bush ridiculed Gore in 2000 because he admitted marijuana use. He ridiculed him not because he smoked marijuana, but because he 'admitted' it. Will this story have legs? Or will Evangelical anti-Christians buy him a bong and say it is as it should be?

Thersites and Old Hat make a great point: if you judge someone by their enemies, the Clintons might just well have been the reincarnations of FD and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Trent Duffy does not deny the authenticity of the tapes, says the GOVERNOR was casually speaking with someone he thought was a friend. Notice the whiney tone of betrayal. Notice he says The GOVERNOR. A uniquely Baptist hillbilly trick. Born again every minute...never have to own up to a sin. The GOVERNOR is another. It is not George W. Bush.
My God these dissemblers must be cast into the fires of hell.

Incog: John A. at Americablog is warning people to be sceptical, because now's the time that the Rovian disinformation machine kicks in.
And we know how Rove works: tell the truth and attach a tar baby. Then expose the tar baby, and everyone forgets about the truth. (That's why I think Rove had a hand in supplying the dodgy memos to Burkett, and thus to CBS.)
So we've reached the point where it's safest not to believe any more revelations and random shit about Jimmy Jeff, because you just know that Rove and co. are looking for the equivalent to the CBS memos, to make Asscracker at Poweslime and the LGFuckwits turn on their heels and say 'oh, this is a story after all, and it's all about the EVIL LEFTIES!!!'

incog, for once, i agree with you:
I have a pretty good idea how Gannon got the WH press pass.
I am a gay white male. In 1970 I was the national committeeman for the Young Republicans from a Southern state. I attended the YR National Convention in June of 1970 in Phonex, AZ. I met K. Rove at the convention and went to the bar for drinks.
We had sex at the Del Web Townhouse we left the bar. I was in the closet until I was in my 40’s. Karl needs to get out of the closet.
well incog. i checked it out. all i can say is thom has horrible taste.
but there is a real scandal here, and it's not the sex.
