First? And Fuck bush!

GravatarFuck Bush and Delay and Frist and Randall Terry and the entire Religious Right sideways with rusty chainsaws.

GravatarDeLay and Frist - Republican Ghouls

GravatarCat Killer Frist!

I just saw on the idiot box that the US House and Senate believe they've got a way to pass some sort of law (of course it's unclear what it is) to "save Terri's life."

Personally, if they "save Terri's life" the ones who vote for this law ought to have Terri come live with them. Why should the state be responsible for Terri Schiavo's care, if these Congressmen and Senators want to be so badly? Maybe they could put her on their gold plated insurance policies?

(The above is a rant, to be distinguished from sober analytical thought. Thank You.)

GravatarGet the government out of your marriage, your bedroom, and your deathbed! Vote Democrat in '06!

GravatarAfternoon. I give up trying to catch up down below.

Anyone heard anything about the Schiavo woman?

GravatarOh, shit, and Fuck w.

GravatarEleventeenth!

Save Me !

GravatarFuck Bush and DeLay and Hastert and Frist and...and...and....too many to name. We know who they are.

GravatarFluffy, why the hell doesn't it just go ahead and rain? This cold, grey stuff is really ugly. My lord, it's March already - it's supposed to be in the 80s.

GravatarGod help me...if the Schiavo bill is rammed through and succeeds, then we truely have lost any sense of law and rule in this country. Any case ruled in courts can be deemed void by a simple rule of the legistators who have no place in this, as they are meant to draft laws, not to decide where they should apply or not.

And of course, the complete subservience of Congress to the Executive Branch, coupled with the memos stating that the President has the power to do ANYTHING for National Security, how can we even say that the core workings of our government are anything but shattered?

GravatarTena-re: your post below...you are correct. it is important to show the hypocrisy and to hammer it home. i hope they choke and puke on this one.

my only point was that we shouldn't lose sight of the senseless war and bringing the troops home. they are alive! terry schiavo is by all means basically dead.

we should also be pointing out the hypocrisy in this, as well as the horrific torture inflicted on sentient people.

i think we are on the same page, sista!

GravatarDid I mention I've filled some out for Bush, Wolfie, Condi, Rummie and especially W and Karl?

GravatarAnd of course, the complete subservience of Congress to the Executive Branch,

Kryptik, you silly thing. Don't you

Ted Smith will accuse you of being
melodramatic?

GravatarI haven't been keeping up the last few days, but if the (Schiavo) thing is getting this kind of attention, I wonder what it's screening. Because you know that's really what's going on.

GravatarJeb/Condi 2008 !

GravatarI posted this on the Schiavo thread below, but I'll ask here, too.

Does anyone know whether/in what manner the Dems are involved in this (at best) highly dubious 'compromise'?

Gravatar" Anyone heard anything about the Schiavo woman?"

Yes, she is now a candle scent marketed to fundamentalist christians and is selling briskly and is only second to the Jesus scent in sales.

GravatarFrom CNN's interview with legal analyst Toobin:

"But, Judy, I think one thing, you know, really needs to be said here. Is what this issue is really about. I mean, what the larger context for all of this is, is abortion politics. That is really what's the very clear undercurrent here. The right to life movement feels very strongly in what President Bush calls a culture of life.

And they begin -- that matters at the beginning of life, in abortion, and the end of life, in a situation like this. The people supporting the removal of the feeding tube feel very strongly about the autonomy of the person. But that's the subtext here and that is, I think, what's really driving a lot of the partisans on both sides."

So we care about life by decrying abortions and insisting that someone who has been essentially braindead for upwards of a decade or more be kept alive. Yet, when it comes to war, fuck 'em all, let God sort them out, we need to preemptively strike before they get us, even if they aren't even gunning for us. Oh, and if you try and stand up and decry the immoral stuff we do? Fuck you, you're a traitor and should burn and rot in Abu Ghraib with all the other terrorists and sympahtizers.

Beautiful FUCKING culture of life we've got in here.

GravatarSchiavo is people...Schiavo is people!!!

Gravatar"And of course, the complete subservience of Congress to the Executive Branch,"

I can remember not very long ago, a very Republican and young friend of mine arguing for the reduction of the Exec's power. He was adamant that the Republican's had the way and this was one thing they had on the agenda. I have lost track of my friend over the 5 or 6 years, I wonder what he thinks now. I suspect, since he was an intelligent and logical individual (to a fault), he may have not voted for these sad, sad people.

GravatarWell said, Kryptik

GravatarKryptik ...

Bush has been jonesing for a Constitutional crisis for some time now (after all, he owes his presidency to one). These people -- and their followers -- will go down in history as the greatest villians this country has ever known.

Gravatar" Anyone heard anything about the Schiavo woman?"

Yes, she is now a candle scent marketed to fundamentalist christians and is selling briskly and is only second to the Jesus scent in sales.

Why?

GravatarI just saw on the idiot box that the US House and Senate believe they've got a way to pass some sort of law (of course it's unclear what it is) to "save Terri's life."

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Terri's been dead for 15 years! There's NOTHING TO SAVE!

God, this pisses me off. It's all about expanding the definition of "human life" into meaningless so they can restrict abortion and God knows whatever else. Who knows, maybe some day they'll even extend it to Iraqis and Africans.

Gravatarmy only point was that we shouldn't lose sight of the senseless war and bringing the troops home. they are alive! terry schiavo is by all means basically dead.

You don't understand. The only ones who count are those who aren't really alive. Talking, walking, thinking human beings don't count (unless they are among the favored few).

GravatarAny social workers who could point us to some cases of actual, conscious, functioning poor people who are being thrown off of vital, life saving assistance by the Republicans? Anyone know of anyone who will make their case known to the world so we can get Tom DeLay to take up their cause? I hope so because I'm getting really sick and tired of hearing the thumpers etc. go on about why we have to save a woman with no brain.

I know that this is how they like their women but Bo "Want to off your wife, place ad here" Gritz, Tom "what's a little neuro toxin in your water" DeLay, Dr. "what's your insurance" Frist?

Gravatarsteve - There is no melodrama when it comes to this administration. Any exaggerations, and overblown emotional responses to what these assholes do is nothing compared to the exaggerations, overblown emotional responses, and petty fucking squabbles these cretins base their whole fucking method of rule on.

GravatarAn idea for a fun T-shirt taking a stab at our fine media popped into my skull the other day and today I had a chance (bloody March snow) to put it all together into a coherent form. I'll be getting some of these printed up for friends and family and might offer then for sale on the site. Could I get an opinion of the design? I think it turned out kinda cool. The kids like it anyway.

GravatarAny social workers who could point us to some cases of actual, conscious, functioning poor people who are being thrown off of vital, life saving assistance by the Republicans?

There was recently a case, maybe in Memphis, of a young girl who was going to get her Medicaid cut off. I think that she was finally allowed to continue receiving care. I can't remember if the lack of care would have killed her or just left her totally helpless.

GravatarAfternoon Moonbats (or is today a "free thinkers" day) -- I had a great run this afternoon in a light drizzle

Well, DeLay's been on the hot seat for several weeks.

Reminds me of the old TDS tag: When News Breaks, We Fix It!

GravatarSchiavo is a tragedy by no one's fault. The decisions made and the consequences of such can face any of us. Frist and the pitiful excuses for our leaders are making a mockery of the inherent dignity of this tragedy.

I cannot advocate removing or replacing the tube, I am not in the shoes of the family. I cannot see this intrusion into a personal catastrophe by the mechanisms of a clumsy and incompetent mass of legislators resulting in anything but more pain for all involved. Frist and his people are simply opportunists, finding one more thing to dazzle the eye and distract from the tragedies they themselves have perpetrated on the public. If there is a hell, I hope they have a special section for these souless criminals.

GravatarHiya, Prior A!

GravatarFrom today's Wash. Post...

"Moreover, military leaders are taking steps to ease stress on the troops by temporarily boosting ranks; rebalancing forces to add badly needed infantry, military police and civil affairs troops; and employing civilians where possible. Yesterday, defense officials worried about recruiting announced that they will raise the age limit, from 34 to 40, for enlistment in the Army Guard and Reserve."

Now, Monday (3/21) is Jonah Goldberg's birthday...his 36th (!) birthday, that is. Feel free to send him b-day wishes, along with this good news for his upcoming military future. You don't think he's still too chicken, do you?

GravatarAccording to doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., 60 percent of the wounded soldiers coming back from Iraq have traumatic brain injuries.

Unfortunately, the Bush administration has recently completely zeroed out funding for the Federal TBI Act, which provides exactly this kind of help.

In Vermont, due to recent decisions concerning budgetary shortfalls, TBI survivors are now prevented from entering the Vermont TBI Medicaid Waiver Program, which delivers exactly this kind of help.

Please call the governor (802) 828-3345 and our congressional representatives and ask them to support the Vermont TBI Medicaid Waiver Program.

It's the same thing I have with religion. I respect the ideals and will fight for them. I just have no patience for the backwards, fucked up way it comes out in practice (like the so-called followers of Jesus who seem to adamantly reject anything Jesus taught in lieu of the vengeful Old Testament teachings).

How else can you do it? Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, you know. The easiest way you can exploit something is by faking belief in it (and yes, I honestly believe these assholes are fakers. Yep. Preachin' to the choir. Dishonesty is practically their defining characteristic, although there are so many others vying for supremacy with it (greed, self-righteousness, bloodthirst, megalomania, etc.).

GravatarHi Eli.
I'll say again some of what I said last night, because I'm still so pissed off.
1. Frist is a senator. He isn't a doctor unless you're in his medical (not his Senate)office and you need a heart transplant. He doesn't know much about neurology even if he's at the bedside. His ability to view a videotape and make an accurate neurological diagnosis that disagrees with those of world-class neurologists who actually examined the patient is zero. Again, DON'T call him Dr. Frist. He's Sen. Frist. Or some other choice approbation. And good people sometimes beget jerks.
2. Anyone wanting even the appearance of legitimacy in pleading for Terry Schiavo's heart to keep beating should put in a year or two of eight-hour shifts changing her position, keeping her remaining eye greased, disimpacting her, cleaning her bum and like that. If Tom DeLay, for instance, doesn't want to do that, then he should shut the fuck up. And imagine the husband of a woman brain-dead for 15 years having a relationship with another woman. What would Newt say? Or Bob? Or Henry? The horror, the horror...
3. I don't want to live in a world whose God wouldn't have a choice word or two to say to a sanctimonious villain like Tom DeLay. But then again, didn't Jesus have a choice bon mot or two about hypocrites?

GravatarRMJ, could you please monitor Eli & make sure he doesn't talk dirty while I'm away?

Thanks!

Crap. I hate babysitting.

Yep. Preachin' to the choir. Dishonesty is practically their defining characteristic, although there are so many others vying for supremacy with it (greed, self-righteousness, bloodthirst, megalomania, etc.).

Eli! Watchermouth! Words or more than two syllables are by definition, NOT obscene.

Get with it, will ya? The four-letter ones are much more entertaining....

GravatarBut then again, didn't Jesus have a choice bon mot or two about hypocrites?

It wasn't appreciated then, either.

GravatarHis ability to view a videotape and make an accurate neurological diagnosis that disagrees with those of world-class neurologists who actually examined the patient is zero.

That really fucking pissed me off - he's trying to use his status as a "doctor" (oooh, aaah) to make it look like he's a genius authority on *all* things medical, even though a cardiologist probably doesn't know any more about neurology than the average country GP.

Wanker.

GravatarI wonder how much state and now federal dollars are being spent just to micromanage the death of one women?
I also worry about Schiavo, these guys gettin' freaks pretty worked up.

GravatarDammit!

Gravatar'Preemptive Strikes' Become Policy --National defense [sic] now extends beyond U.S. borders to include acts of 'active deterrence.' A new "National Defense Strategy" for the first time makes the kind of preemptive strike used in Iraq part of the nation's military policy in dealing with rogue nations, Pentagon officials said today. The plan that specifies the Bush regime's goals in protecting the nation describes a muscular policy of "active deterrence."

It's official! Now the policy of the US is to invade anybody we feel like whenever we feel like.
