Please don't say that. Jim was a good party guy for a long time because the GOP did represent moderation at one point, and meshed with his ideals as well as his state's. I enthusiastically voted for him when he was an R, and I certainly do now that he's an Indy.
At least he had to moral courage to tell off his party leadership and ditch a bunch of assholes who have strayed from noble principles. Lieberman has not that quality.

Now that we have the repug's in the graveyard and digging their own grave, do you think we can get them to lie down in it and bury themselves too?
soc sec will run out of money eventually if it isn't funded. this is true of any program you could care to name. the way to avoid that is to fund it.

I retract the post comparing Libermann to Jeffords...he definitely does measure up to Jeffords' standards, however, I will say he has lost his faith in who he once was.
Moad-dib: no worries. I just have a soft spot for Jim.
I e-mail our Congressional delegation a lot, and he is the most interesting in terms of response: Bernie never replies, but his staff did personally call me when I was looking for some stuff in the Congressional Recard and then sent me a hardcopy (stuff that wasn't online); Pat always writes back via e-mail promtply, though his responses are rife with mushy Senatorese and a pointer to statements on his website (which is actually okay); Jim never responds via e-mail, but I've got snail mail responses on the major issues I've written about (impeachment and Condi/Gozno noms). The only one I've ever met in person is Pat--chatted with him at BTV, on airplanes, on the people movers at IAD.
But I digress...

If I may indulge in a bit of wishful thinking: Lieberman is challenged and loses in the primaries!

"soc sec will run out of money eventually if it isn't funded."
They were saying that back in the early 80's and there wasn't an ounce of thought given to what the public thought. The Congress acted in our best interest to make sure they did what they could to prepare for us baby-boomers when we reached the ripe old age of retirement.
Now that the time is close at hand, to hear all of a sudden that there isn't anything there is a breach of the fiduciary responsibility of the Federal Government.
If Bush is so insistent on an ownership society of risk-takers, then the federal government should own up to miss-managing public funds and the public trust first. Else he should shut the fuck up!
Fuck Kerry, fuck the democrats. Bush is my HERO! *smooch*
Hey, don't get down on me just because I'm a maverick! If only the rest of you democrats could be more sensible, like uncle Joementum!

NTodd,
Many years ago, I used to coach Little League in the north end of Burlington.. Bernie (then Mayor) would always come out to throw out the 1st ball.. I, too, would vote for Jim J. in a heartbeat, would that I still lived in Vt..

Once again, as with the war in Iraq, when all the poorly constructeed pretexts for executing a blatant grab for the money fall by the wayside all we are left with is the naked truth that no one in the media can seem to see. The actual prime movers( Oil and war profiteering in Iraq, stock market brokers fees in the case of private SS accounts) now exposed, continue to push for what they want and the whores keep taking the money and putting out. Where do all those folks who will benefit from brokers fees in a privatized SS live? Would that not be Senator Joe's state? They work in NY but commute in from Joe land. Not surprising that they have bought him off.
Follow the money. That's what Joe does.
