They want to turn the country into a feudalist fiefdom where the brainless are kept alive and god tells you how to use the toilet. This is how it was 100 years ago; and we ain't going back.

I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility.
First, the Dems have a golden opportunity to pound home every failed policy Bush touted and tie that failure around the neck of every Rethuglican congressman during the 2006 election cycle.
Second, Bush's policies are proving to be amazingly unpopular, and any Rethuglican who toed or toes the line for Shrubbie stands to get his or her collective ass kicked, whether that's '06 or '08.
The Dems have been handed a gift. And if Rethugs sense that Americans increasingly see Bush as unpopular, even reviled, they're sure as hell not going to risk their own political neck to go down with him.

FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT COME TO FLORIDA...PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS. PLEASE DO NOT STOP YOUR CALLS.
ACTION BY THE PEOPLE MUST TAKE PLACE TO SAVE TERRI FROM JUDICIAL HOMICIDE.
JUDGE GREER IS WRONG AND IS NOT LISTENING TO CONGRESS.
Here's a March 17, 2005 CBS Evening News video link that has the pictures comparing a normal, living brain to Terri Schiavo's brain (the pics are at 1:26 through 1:29 in the 2:03 long video):
The doctor's finger is pointing to a scan of a normal, healthy, living brain. The whitish-grey tissue is living brain matter, the dark outlines are cavities filled with spinal fluid.
The other scan, the one the doc's not pointing to, is that of Terri Schiavo's brain. As you can see, it's mostly not there anymore, and what is there is shriveled and dead. Everything else above the cerebellum, which controls heartbeat and breathing but not thought or feeling, is spinal fluid. Period.
This precludes the idea that Terri Schiavo could have done what the lawyer says she did.

Stop looking for bad news, Hoyt.
You think someone can wave a magic wand and, suddenly, all will be right? Talking like a loser insures that you will be one, dearest.
Connect the dots folks - it could be the reason that Reid et al went along is that it reminded the Rethugs that they have the power under Senate rules to block idiocies like this, and will all the time if Frist et al use the "nuclear" option to prevent cloture on judicial choices.
The overall Senate rules - allowing any Senator to stop action at any time - are not going to be changed, so this just emphasizes the catastrophe that will result if they try this.
Yes, I am horrified by the lack of leadership outrage over this, but my guess is that this is a big picture tactical step, in order to keep the judiciary from becoming even worse than it is already.

OTOH, can't give up, can we?
Sarah Deere
All true, but I just want to see The Dems get off their weak backsides and stand up for an issue. No backsliding, no crap deals, just stand up for what they believe in. I could pick 100 people from this site who could do a better job than any of them.

Mr Schiavo should be permitted to exercise his legal rights & end this 15 year long family tragedy
But if the Dmes in the Senate can somehow triangulate this into a national Health Service, I'm all for it

sally, agreed.
However, I am among those who let it get this far, this bad.
I did not pay enough attention soon enough.
I am ashamed of myself. And I know that much of my rage stems from a feeling of impotence because the rethugs have such a head start - and it comes from frustration and, in some measure, my own guilt.
And I can't/don't want to do what the rethugs do - or maybe what I mean, the WAY they do it.

you should not have to do anything, that is what Democrats get paid for.
But for the last 10-15 years they have not earned their money.

Sally,
Maybe.
I, being older, had a difficult time adjusting to using a computer. Took me a while, and I finally figured out why. It was because I wanted/expected them to be like toasters or washing machines.
Well.
Once I got over that, I made increasingly incremental progress.
I think gov't is like that too. I can just vote once and never give feedback. I need to keep an eye on my congresspeople, act locally whenever I can, all those mundane things that take time and effort that I get too complacent and lazy to do.
So, yes, it's their job, but it's my job, too, IMHO.

Consider Great Britain at the turn of the 20th Century: the greatest empire the world had ever seen. And they, at the height of their arrogance of power, start a war in South Africa "to teach those bloody Boers a lesson."
50 years later, Great Britain is a second-class power with a teetering economy, low standard of living, offered a seat at the Big Boys table out of politeness, , and thought of as charming, quaint, and colorful.
Think it can't happen here?
It's happening.

As long as money rules politics in this country all issues are always in play.Constant tug of war Between
money and people. As long as $$$= free speach(the supreme court says so)we will be at a disadvantage.
We must make up for it with creativity and humor. And the truth. It can be a powerful weapon when spoken loudly. But nothing in this country is ever really settled.
You gotta fight every day or lose!

< Forty-five percent of all Americans approve of the way he is doing his job >
So what will it be THIS time ? They've tried the 'scuba diving al-Qaeda terrorists', the 'crop-duster al-Qaeda terrorists', the 'knapsack wearing subway al-Qaeda terrorists', and the 'crossed the Mexican border and on the way to your house al-Qaeda terrorists'.
The only thing left is gay al-Qaeda terrorists who want to get married and then blow themselves up in a church.

So Bush's approval ratings are falling? I think the question begs, so what?
With war in Iran looking more possible all the time in spite of warnings about Iran having the bomb ALREADY, and the continuing drumbeat for a draft, it looks like the population that voted to have their sons and daughters die in Chimpy War, because they were scared of all the alleged cornholing going on with "Gay Marraige and All" hysteria that burned over the bible belt like a range fire extending from Lake Superior to the Gulf don't give a tinker's damn if Bush is at 25% or 75%.
Learn it right now. Not until sis or junior comes home in a box from the "Chimpy Wars" is any of the "Amurikan" public going to give a damn.

Who branded the lower half of Bush's face with that pink triangle? God, he looks like Tinky Bushie!
Hello !?! Smug and cocky doesn't work so well with a unibrow and a beak.

JEFFERS:"The laws of physics demand it."
U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said yesterday the Army was working as fast as it can and supply is dictated by ``a matter of physics, not a matter of money.''
Jacksonville, Florida-based Armor Holdings last month told the Army it could add armor to as many as 550 of the trucks a month, up from 450 vehicles now, Robert Mecredy, president of the company's aerospace and defense group said in a telephone interview today.
``We're prepared to build 50 to 100 vehicles more per month,'' Mecredy said in the interview. ``I've told the customer that and I stand ready to do that.''
What some people call commmitment, I call stubborness.
I'd call it monomania and delusions of grandeur. it isn't ordinary stubbornness, which is sometimes a virtue. George Bush isn't just an ideologue; he's one of those people (like Caligula) who wields power over others just for the thrill of forcing submission. He's a nutcase, in other words.
And it's all there in his early bio: distant father fixation stony stern mother figure, fuckup child.
Plus he's ignorant, and now his opinions go unchallenged. Imagine a malevolent Archie Bunker with real power.

the demoRATS are paid by big business just like the rethugs...
Nader certainly has a point (about dems and thugs being different names for the same thing - corporate shills!) - and those points ring true in times like these - there was no PROGRESSIVE missive in Reid's and demorats following the thug lead on the schiavo case!
There should be RAGE at the demorats for slunking down to the neanderthalic decision to keep an amoeba-brain alive with machines.
I look back at clinton passing NAFTA and GATT and think to myself - are demorats good for america either?
demorats, in their lap-dog will to pander to the basest of mericans: the idiots, have become GOP-lite...and that shit stinks!!!

My Symphathy to all of you in the good old USA.
You won Idiot of the Century Award for voting this Idiot back in.
Nixon looks better each and every day.
Don't blame Bush too much for signing a Right to Die bill in Texas.
I doubt he remembers.

Hopefully Bush will keep trying to swindle folks out of their SS. It'll be good for Dems by 2006.
Dems should talk about as the fact that Bush is trying swindle old folks and try all those Republican hype tatics.
Bush is a pro-corporate - anti-people Prez and Dems should hammer it home the way Republicans hammer all their BS.
