I think the Randall Terry right is making its point this week. The time for painless, just-for-show pandering to them is over. There ain't no compromise on anything or sharing of power because they can do no wrong, people who disagree are inherently evil, and compromise is a mortal sin. Going half way with them is Pontius Pilate-ism, as Jeb Bush now knows. And going halfway with anyone but The Corporate Masters is the core of Bushism.
The Republican party thus has a clear choice: they can marginalize those people or serve them.
Nice strategic move, Bugman. It is this, and not your scandals, that will force you out (by GOPers suddenly worried about their own situations).

They run a highlight over and over of mom's visit.
She sits Theresa up (the media adopted the name 'Terri' fearing otherwise people may connect emotion to John Kerry's wife).
But Theresa can't sit up and starts a to slump over and fall off the bed. So Mom gets in front of where her eyes look , holding her up, and they claims she is leaning to momma whom she knows...
Is there a Congressional hearing on this?
"Ma'am have you lost your self -respect?"
What about the stress on others at the hospice? People getting excercise routines and managed care inhibited by the media circus?
Of course the nonprofits out there pandering for donors and disrupting the care providers will claim bankruptcy (probably having already filed). Fully expecting Schiavo to die and wanting an expedited return to allow them to keep every cent raised.
This falls under the window of bankruptcy for abortion clinic protesters?
Are there any abortion clinics they can bomb once the death announcement comes out?

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Jennifer Johnson, barefoot and in her pajamas, ran to her grandfather's bedside once a hospice worker said his death was moments away. She got there - one minute too late. Johnson said the chaos outside the hospice where Terri Schiavo is dying kept her from saying goodbye.
When Johnson arrived, a police officer demanded identification; she had none. And after a hospice employee cleared her, another officer halted her for a search with a metal detector.
The delays lasted three to four minutes - the last of her grandfather's life.
"It's a terrible, extra obstacle to put in front of a family. ... Everything is about Schiavo," Johnson said. "It's all about her and in my family's case, it cost us dearly."

Antidepressant news:
Friend: Minn. Gunman Took Antidepressants
By JOSHUA FREED, Associated Press Writer
BEMIDJI, Minn. - The teenager who went on a shooting rampage at his high school was put on the antidepressant Prozac after a suicide scare last summer, a longtime friend says.
Jeff Weise, 16, also had watched a movie about a school shooting with friends earlier this month — skipping ahead to some of the most violent scenes, according to Sky Grant, a friend of Weise's since sixth grade.
Grant, also 16, said Weise brought the 2003 movie "Elephant" to Grant's house on March 4, then skipped ahead to the parts of the movie that show two students planning and carrying out a school shooting.
The teens talked about the movie afterward, but Weise didn't say anything that made them think he planned to emulate the movie, Grant said. "It all seemed normal," he said.
Note: antidepressants seems to work differently on teens who are being bombarded with a change in harmones that heavily affect the emotional parts of the brain.

Just to give you an idea of what our Right Wingnut friends think...from a major "conservative" blog comment thread:
"The Schiavo case illustrates the convergence of the unholy trinity of the liberal judiciary, the MSM, and the liberal Democratic party.
We all should be aware that more of this awaits us if we ever allow the Dems to regain any greater measure of political power.
It’s simple: we must crush the Dems and the MSM. That’s the only remedy, the only recourse."
as are you, the Cato institute types have been trying to have their cake and eat it for too long, while pretending that the theocracy wing would never gain the influence.
On these issues the garden variety Libertarian should be screaming as loud as the rest of us.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Last night in my sleep, oddly, I voiced the very same sounds that Terri supposedly voiced a full eight days ago.
After talking to my lawyer, he attests in a legal document that I meant "I am so sick and fecking tired of all this hoopla, compulsive litigation and media craziness that I want to set my hair on fire and jet off to a small town in the South of Ireland to search for shamrocks and fairies in peace for the remainder of my life."
My wife has filed in Federal court claiming that I really meant to say France, instead of Ireland.
I call on Congress, the President, the governor of Pennsylvania, the National Guard, the Republican Party, all the rightwing Christian snake-handlers in America, the Right To Ireland Coalition and Sponge Bob Square Pants, to right this heinous misunderstanding.
The thought of spending even a couple of days in France, firms my resolve to take this case to the highest court in the land, again and again and again and still again, until someone (anyone) agrees with me.

More from the AP story:
But Johnson, 24, said her 73-year-old grandfather, Thomas Bone, was restricted from moving freely around the hospice grounds during his final days. He died just hours after Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed and protests intensified.
"They've taken away hospice's greatest quality, that it is peaceful and serene and quiet and calming - and it's not fair," Johnson said.

David Frum was on kissing Andrea Mitchell's butt on Hardball last night saying this is a win for the Republicans because women support the parents becasue they identify with them"
-------
it is women who take care of elderly parents or disabled children and many MANY of them, like my GOP mother, have spent years caring for people with Alzheimers or other ultimately brain destroying illness. they KNOW what it really means and I would bet that they like my GOP mother are enraged that Randall Terry and Tom Delay who have never served another human in their lives should be in charge of telling them what they must do in this situation. my mother bravely resisted doctors who wanted to install a pacemaker and eventually a feeding tube in my declining father -- she knows that there is a time to die -- although she spent 15 years taking loving care of him just as Michael Schiavo has taken loving care of his wife.
On a sadder note, my dear husband Massacio tells me that he would have thrown my senseless corpse to the wolves long ago if he had been in Michael's position [having ascertained he says that I felt no pain] -- it takes a degree of heroism to honor this woman's wishes and to put up with the assaults by the wingnuts and parents who invent 'abuse' years after the fact.

You'd think some in the media would be concerned about that one--mob rule doesn't make for a safe country

Trained Ape | Email | Homepage | 03.26.05 - 9:34 am | #
True. Libertarians (a/k/a Republicans Who Like to Smoke Pot) are hopefully learning that there is no doing away with 'the state.' That's naivete. The hard part is working to ensure that any given government does good and not evil; that the government expands rights instead of taking them away; that government is controlled by the people and not corporations.
Libertarians, like the psycho-Christians, have habitually clung to their philosophy - - no matter that reality is contrary to many of their notions. But, since many Libertarians don't believe in a sky buddy, maybe they will be the first to break ranks with the GOP.

(Silly little man - don't you know the Bush family does NOTHING that doesn't benefit THEM? Jebbie's backing off because his approval ratings are in the toilet and he's trying to save his own political career!)
"Bob Schindler also pleaded with Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene by taking temporary custody of their daughter while court challenges are argued.
"With the stroke of his pen, he could stop this," Bob Schindler said. "He's put Terri through a week of hell and my family though a week of hell. I implore him to put a stop to this. He has to stop it. This is judicial homicide."
Bush, who has been a staunch supporter of the Schindlers, said Thursday he is not willing to go beyond the boundaries of his powers and that he was hoping the courts would provide relief."

BTW, I don't know which is the more insipid post over at Perfesser Ernest T. Bass - the one where he argues more armor is bad for military vehicles in Iraq (hence Rumsfeld is a genius!), or this one:
YESTERDAY'S RAZORBLOGGING produced a surprising amount of email. First, several readers happily assured me that I'd love the razor that I meant to buy. Yeah, I actually own one, and it's quite good.
Several readers wanted to know what razor I bought by mistake. Hunting around, I found it on Amazon, and it's this one. Note the strong resemblance.
A buyer from Target asked how I liked the knock-off. My response: It sucks. Or, more accurately, it plucks, rather than cutting, often enough that I quit using it and went back to the old one. I just ordered the Norelco from Amazon; the other one will go back to Target next time I'm there.

In the meantime as the media and politicians obsess over an unfortunate women with no cerebral cortex, we just lost three more kids in Iraq. My thoughts go out to the families of those men who "were young living vibrant human beings" just yesterday.
As Americans basically lost over a week of their lives being force fed this story by hate TV and the SCLM, and as all the drafters and the signers of this bill that set off the hysteria have disappeared, gone on vacation, or are sipping gin and tonic by some Carribbian pool, after the dust settles I want those on the Democratic side who made the voice vote in support of this to also answer questions when this made for FAUX movie concludes.
As I sit and reflect on what happened this past week I ask myself the question, if a midnight bill hadn't been passed and signed in Congress, if the ruling of the courts were left to stand, if the emporer didn't fly in at midnight to make this an "issue", if the media "didn't make this a story filled with hate and venom"..
Would anyone today know who Terri Shiavo was this monring if she pased away quietly after the fifteen years of deliberation in the courts were left to stand as they are today ?
Ten days ago, I did not know her parents first or last names, I did not know her husbands first or last name, and I vaugely knew who this poor women was.
As thousands upon thousands of families enter hospitals and hospices this morning to say their good byes and comfort their love ones as their souls leave this earth, why is it we do not also know their names ? Why is it we do not know the names of the soldiers that just passed away ?

After the federal panel's decision Friday night, the Schindlers appealed to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene, calling what happened "judicial homicide."
"Governor Bush, you have the power to save my daughter," Mary Schindler said. "Please, please do something."
Schiavo's father was more forceful.

Draco-re CNN-this is the policy of their new president, Jonathan Klein. I posted a link to this article couple days ago. He is the fifth person to head CNN's domestic operations in just the last four years, and each of his predecessors is believed to have been undone, at least in part, by a failure to do better in the ratings against the seemingly unstoppable Fox juggernaut.
"In an ideal world, there probably would not be this much turnover," said Jim Walton, president of CNN News Group, to whom Mr. Klein, as president of its domestic networks, reports. "What I can assure you is Jon will be successful in this position, and he'll be in this position for many years to come."
One of Mr. Klein's mantras - a version of the same one he invoked when announcing in January that he intended to cancel the afternoon shout-fest "Crossfire" - is that the network's prime-time programs should spend less time reporting the news of the day and more time spinning out what he hopes are emotionally gripping, character-driven narratives pegged to recent events.
But he has also sought to take a page from the playbook of local television news and encourage some reporters to put more of their personalities in their reports. It is not insignificant that he is being advised in this effort by Joel Cheatwood, a former news executive in Miami and Chicago who is well known for using loud sound effects to amplify crime stories and for the failed effort to make Jerry Springer a commentator in Chicago in the late 1990's. ...Think about this. Top far-right religious leaders told Jeb Bush he shouldn't be pushed around by some "piddling judge." Ann Coulter shouted they should send in the National Guard. Silly talk-radio/Fox News rhetoric? Jeb Bush damn near did it. And if the brave men and women of the local police hadn't decided to uphold the law, Bush would have succeeded...
Do we live in some pathetic dictatorship now where judges who don't "cooperate" are threatened and their families are murdered and the rule of law is a joke?
This has nothing to do anymore with what decisions you or I or anyone make at the end of their lives. This has to do with a far-right minority deciding they want to dismantle our form of government, attack the independent judiciary until it is weak, and encourage a governor to send in the troops.
This is outrageous. The mere fact that Jeb Bush could even CONSIDER such a move is outrageous. There need to be Congressional hearings, Bush needs to be censured by the Congress if this proves accurate and a respect for this country's laws needs to be instilled again in our people. This isn't even mob rule, since most Americans think Bush and the Congress and Jeb should BUTT out.

David Frum is talking out of his ass. I think most Americans would be horrified to have a private family medical matter yanked out of their hands and dragged into Congress and a big media circus.
Most Americans would be horrified that they could be slandered and libeled by the media and prominent politicians for trying to honor a loved one's medical wishes, and the target of radical wingnuts with guns.
And most Americans are aware that if this nightmare could happen to Michael Sciavo, it could happen to them.

Thank god the local police told them where to get off - at least SOMEONE there has some balls!

------------------------------------
"Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called "a showdown."
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
"We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in," said a source with the local police."

The Schindlers have had mega-, ultra-, extraordinary intervention by the federal government -- imagine having a law written just to benefit you -- and they're still not satisfied. Now they're saying that Jeb has put them "through a week of hell by not acting."
I lost my sympathy for these folks a long time ago. They are petulant, demanding children. Most reasonable people would have by now accepted the court rulings and said, "Thank you, everyone, for your extraordinary intervention. We will focus on spending time with our daughter during her last days with us."
I'm sorry to say it, but these people are monsters. Majikthise put it best: "They are narcissists who believe that their anguish takes precedence over all moral and legal principles."

This has been a HUGE "success" for the chimperor. Large, cross-coutnry and global war protests were knocked "off-the-radar." So has his Social Security Bamboozle tour (which is not an "outstanding success, even though he is only speaking to supporters). No one is talking about financial mismanagement within the taxpayer funded military-industrial complex.
Somewhere, an evil karl and the dark forces that give him his marching laugh. The sheeple have listened and they have followed.
Once again, reason and truth have been set aside for an emotional issue that the masses will never agree on. Issues that the politicians that who fan these flames have no intention of resolving, for they cannot resolve them.
They are simply too powerful a means for control.
The war machine goes on, hardly noticed. The federal treasury slowly is being bled dry and astounding "profits" continue to flow. Millions and millions, and billions and billions cannot be accounted for; yet the checks still roll in. The sheeple mindlessly bleat, "support our troops."

What is fascinating about this is that if you look into how the appeals system works in an average Death Penalty Appeal, where legit concerns are brushed off without a thought, the Schlinder's have had extraordinary access to the courts in a case which was a civil matter.
Their abuse of the courts hurt a lot of living people...which might have been why the Bushies gave the Schindlers free reign....

Big Daddy Mars, I'd say a li'l prayer fer Miz Mama Mars, but all them assholes in FL have tied up all the lines. My amazing psychic powers tell me that if you thought last year's FL hurricane season was a bitch, just wait for this hurricane season. The Invisible Sky Buddy must be gittin' real pissed with them assholes.

No wonder people in other countries think Americans are fucking stupid!
My wife's mother lives in Holland, and they were talking yesterday and her mother was saying something like, "What is going on over there? Is everyone insane?" She said a lot of Dutch make fun of how lame our news is, and how they do think most Americans are complete idiots.
Big Daddy Mars
I get my breakfast every day from a Greek lady's cart and she and her daughter talk to relatives in Greece once a week.
They say the same thing - "Are people there insane?"

But not the Atrios contributors. All of them are bright, logical and funny.
This story has legs -- for us liberals. It's our chance to paint the whole conservative movement as not just nuts but dangerous. The logical conclusion of their demands is that the courts and even democracy must yield to the power of the mob.
Yes, but as Dana Milbank of the WaPo pointed out last night, the Dems have been virtually silent this week. (Except for Barney Frank--love that guy.) If they don't step up to the plate and start making some pretty strong statements about what Jeb! did, this will all fade into memory faster than you can say "Terror Alert Upgraded to Orange (High)"

No, that's your hysteria talking.
The commotion in Pinellas Park is America's heritage. Consider Salem, Dayton, and a hundred other tumults along the way.

Isn't Congress out on Spring Break right now after doing the special Schiavo Slumber Party? Wait until Congress goes back in to session and then start the Gingrich-style smiling for C-span and ripping in to the Busheviks overreaching and turning this in to a giant circus that is overshadowing the Michael Jackon trial.

Speaking of Mr. Boxcutter Crazy:
Jesus freak brings knife to gunfight
SEMINOLE, Fla. - A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.
Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell, 20, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.
...
Randy McKenzie, the owner of Randall's Firearms, said Mitchell pulled out the box cutter and broke the glass on a couple of display cases.
"He told me if I wasn't on Terri's side then I wasn't on God's side, either," McKenzie told The Associated Press.
McKenzie said he then pointed his own gun at Mitchell and ordered him to lie on the ground. But Mitchell fled out the store's back door before police arrived, he said.
It was not known if he had a lawyer.
Seminole is about 5 miles west of Pinellas Park.

Wait a minute--I thought Jennifer Aniston had filed for divorce a long time ago. Poor lonely lovelorn Brad.... He really is kind of a nerd, with a learning disability and a shy streak. Will no one be a new love for Brad?

Big Daddy Mars - what the fuck? Is this circus becoming "the fly paper" for the looney toons Busheviks?
And Ms. Gere - mentioning the witch-trial era theocracy of Salem is the American heritage... just one that the Constitution and the Founding Fathers (and Abigail and the gals) were trying to expunge from the American future.
But theocratic lunacy does have a way of returning to American soil because there are always Morans like yourself to tell us... "don't worry, be happy"

Idiots like this one have fooled themselves into thinking they are in control of the religious extremists in their party. This week many of them found out who exactly is driving the train. And that they are heading for one hell of a train wreck.
Michael Lind and David Brock figured this out a long time ago.

Did anyone see how pissed off Scarborough got with the guy from Vanity Fair on MSNBC last night. It was priceless. One thing about "Scarborough Country" - you might not need a passport to go there but you sure need a brain-ectemey to stay there for any period of time.
Also enjoyed the Indian guy who told Anderson Cooper that the news networks were using Schiavo for ratings (while on CNN). Anderson quickly went to commercial.

I'm thinking Judge Greer will rule on the latest when he stops laughing (difficult to find something funny in all this)...but have yet to see ANYONE suppose that the AHHHHHHH, WAAAAAA response to the latest wingnuts attempts to PROVE Terri's ability to communicate might not have actually been her trying to say "I WANT TO FUCKING DIE!"...but, no, they can infere her thoughts from the "I want" apparently because it's what they already believe...So sad, that her parents aren't wanting to be there for all the comfort that their "touch" (last sense to go if there are ANY) could give to their so loved daughter...

One man, one break-in, one gun, one motive, one bust---and the effete fraidy cats want martial law.
And CNN's continuing coverups. When will they stop? How many Pinellas Park casualties have gone uncounted? Has the orange juice been poisoned? How many calls has Jeb made to the Vatican? Will Ailes go to church Sunday?
Of course the dogs are not barking---and the blogsters want to know why.

CNN is the worst pile of caca infesting my television. It brings me joy to see their ratings plunge.
They are one of the main reasons why Bush has gotten away with all the crimes he has committed against this great nation.
It's time to bring CNN down for their failure to take their great journalistic responsibilities seriously enough.
It is very apparent that CNN thinks their job is not to inform the public, but to propagandize and keep them ill-informed and ignorant.
Boycott CNN the same way you boycott FAUX Newz.
It’s all shit, but different packages.

If she did have the capability, she might have been trying to say "I want to die." What would the radical right do then?
tj -- i disagree. it's past the time when dems should have spoken out. those with backbone did so last saturday night -- barney frank, rob wexler, rush holt and in particular, debbie Wasserman Schultz. when questions arise now, the best response from those dems who weren't here is: the federal government has no business intruding into such a personal matter. it should be left to the family, doctor and state authorities. period.
then when the next question is: 'but what about those 43 house democrats who supported the bill.' the response should be: 'they were wrong.'

The Schindlers' lawyer--who should be facing disbarment for this--claimed that Terri Schiavo said 'ahhhhhh....wahhhhhh' which he claims meant 'I want to live.'
It's more likely she was saying "I want to die, you fucking shyster."
