GravatarThe conundrum of course, is if lefties stop supporting public tv and npr it will just hasten their demise. OTOH, how can anyone in good conscience support tucker carlson?

I've kinda decided to keep sending NPR a check because i still do listen every day, but not PBS, because I almost never watch them anymore. Instead, that money will go to independent media like blogs, the Nation, etc.

GravatarPBS, RIP

QL in NY

Shit, this almost depresses me as much, frankly. You can't compare wounded vets to public broadcasting in terms of importance. But this really hurts, just the same.

I used to love public broadcasting and I just get sick of the Repugs smearing everything I ever cared about in this country with shit.

I fucking hate these people.

Ok - go Right then, public broadcasting, but for god's sake, do it with some class. O'Lielly? Tucker? You're just dumbing down like everything else in this country has. God fucking damn it I never thought I would see the day when people actively aspired to be stupider instead of smarter.

GravatarGod fucking damn it I never thought I would see the day when people actively aspired to be stupider instead of smarter.

It's incredible. We used to be involved in races to the moon, outer space, cures for disease, better technologies. The media covered each and every breakthrough.

Now? It's fucking unbelievable how quickly the perception has changed with that incompetent imbecile in the Oval Office. The dumbing down of America continues.

GravatarMy TV is just a second monitor, upon which I shall watch some new Doctor Who soon.

GravatarI saw the interview.
I didn't know he was the new head of PBS until the end of the interview.
I am not a medical expert, but I honestly thought Tomlinson might be retarded.
Does he actually have any qualifications for the job?

GravatarPez,
Actually, that across-the-lap guitar style wasn't all that unusual up until relatively recently. A guy named Thumbs Carlilse made pretty good money as a Nashville session man that way, and several old-school blues cats played like that (particularly those out of the Piedmont region and coastal states, for some unknown reason). Guitar players as a rule were fairly sedate creatures anyway until T-Bone Walker came along.

GravatarHere's part of the b.s. response I got back from my PBS affiliate when I wrote in to complain about the shift to Carlson:

. . . I can't, and will not respond to Tucker Carlson's comments in an interview.
>
However, I can address your concerns about IPTV's airing of the program TUCKER CARLSON UNFILTERED.
>
As we hope you know, IPTV endeavors to bring overall balance into Iowa
homes with our broadcast schedule. We also present programming that you
won't find anywhere else.
>
TUCKER CARLSON UNFILTERED is designed to be provocative. The producers
intend to get people talking, in response to the program. As you might
guess, our viewers have responded in many different ways. Some like him
while others hate him. Few have no opinion about the program.
>
If it's not for you, then we have lost you as a viewer 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.
on Friday nights. We trust you will continue to find other programs of
value throughout the week.

Of course, I replied with an explanation that this concept of "balance" is bankrupt and that "being provocative" is a piss poor mission statement for public broadcasting . . . but I doubt it did any good.

GravatarThis morning the old guy, Dan Somebody, made it sound as if the Democrats are at fault if the filibuster goes away. What is it with them? Will they not be happy until it's a one party system?

GravatarWatching college baseball myself.

But I fear the fix is in for America. The media is "too liberal" and the wingers own the voting machines. And not enough people with any kind of power understand just how dire the situation really is.

Oh, I'll keep fighting, because it's all I can do. But this stuff is just sucking the life out of me.

Sounds like it needs a Jon Stewart infusion.

Gravatarcouple of congress critters have started an investigation into the doings of the babysitter Tomlinson brought in to approve the guests selected for Moyer's old show. I linked to the article earlier this week on a thread. Lemme see if i can find it.

GravatarNot to worry. We gots plenty of psychiatrists around these parts.

Most mental problems can be linked to unresolved issues with one's mummy, especially those of the 42' variety.

Actually, this reminds me, am I the only one who thinks Grover Norquist's choices of imagery are... disturbing? Drowning gummint in the bathtub, date rape bipartisanship, "fixing" the Democrats to make them more docile? What a creepy, creepy man.

Gravatarbumpersticker of the day. Redneck, and proud of it. which is fine by me, unless they voted for W, and if i had to bet money...

It almost brightens my day to see a truck with a "Flush the Johns" sticker on it. That's some clever wordplay!
Compared to the usual, terrifying "praying for America" stickers- an Assembly of God lamb with an American flag. Lovely.

GravatarI enjoyed "dalek" very much. I haven't watched last weeks ep yet because I heard it wasn't that great.
"unquiet dead" was another standout.

GravatarIs the current leadership of the Democratic Party an embarrassment, or what? There's Howard Dean, who "hates Republicans and everything they stand for," imitates Rush Limbaugh snorting drugs, and vows to "use Terry Schiavo." And there's the increasingly out-of-control Harry Reid, who, just days after calling President Bush a "loser" in front of a group of students, did the previously unthinkable: he slandered a judicial nominee by referring to a "problem" disclosed in the nominee's confidential FBI file--without, of course, referring to what the "problem" might be. This is really breathtaking; did Joe McCarthy ever stray this far over the line? Not that I can recall.

It can't be a good thing for a party to be led by men who have so little judgment or self-control. We said not long ago that Howard Dean is a ticking time-bomb for the Democrats. It looks now as though Harry Reid is in the same category

Oh, don't get me wrong, it is pretty cool to see. I get the same buzz from watching McCartney play bass bass-ackwards.

BlakNo1,
I didn't care for "Dalek", though I do think "Unquiet Dead" was great, classic Who. I'm chalking my discontent with the show up to the changes in network television since I last watched it regularly. In other words, the very forced "sexual tension" bullshit is getting on my nerves, but it's ever thus.

Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin and Rep. John Dingell of Michigan have asked for the review into several actions by CPB board chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, a Republican, including the hiring of a consultant to review the guests on the show “Now With Bill Moyers.”

The New York Times reported last week that the consultant kept track of “anti-Bush,” “anti-business” and “anti-Tom DeLay” guests on the show. Moyers has left the show and now is the host of “Wide Angle” on PBS.

In their letter to Konz on Wednesday, Obey and Dingell said that Tomlinson's actions may have violated the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, which bans interference by federal officials over public programming.

“Congress intended that the CPB serve as a shield rather than a source of political interference into public broadcasting,” they wrote.

GravatarHey Rips, good to see you.

GravatarFake pie's a big fat liar.

First, Tim Tagaris followed up with links to other ludicrously biased pieces of "journalism" by Charles Hurt.

Next, Matt Singer at Left in the West dug up a load of information on how ridiculously corrupt one of Hurt's main sources in the story, Manuel Miranda, had conducted himself while he was a Republican Senate staffer.

An hour later, Jeralyn of Talk Left quickly followed up with links to three times the file was talked about in the press before Reid said anything about it. This included a public "characterization" the file by Senator Orin Hatch, R-UT.

Less than an hour after that, over at Swing State Project and Dailykos, DavidNYC then landed the knockout blow by demonstrating that Charles Hurt himself had made a public characterization of the FBI file. one year ago.
Combined, this killed the story. As The Note wrote this morning:
The Washington Times' Charles Hurt writes an article about how Harry Reid mentioned the confidential FBI file of a judicial nominee yesterday . . . LINK
But so did Hurt, in June of 2004."

Gravatar...ticking time bomb...

again with the cut and paste, troll. You have no idea how dumb this makes you and your ilk look, do you?

Reid mentioned something in the public domain. And then, someone smarter than you punked your dumb ass.

That's how the conservative movement works: top down, the cynical and the dupes.

By all means, come here regularly and demonstrate for us your inferiority. (not like you can help it, anyway)
.

GravatarFake pie's a big fat liar.

and on one hand, he (or rather whoever wrote his lines for him) says that Reid is wrong for mentioning this at all...

charley, I couldn't agree with you more. What I can't understand is why the likes of his ilk tell such lies. For that 20% of fundamentalists? Seems idiotic to me.

GravatarI know at least a few of you out there are from the N.Y. area, and I'm wondering if any of you have noticed the almost constant message being played on channel 21 (WLIW) regarding the conservative infiltration of PBS? I live on L.I. and tend to watch WLIW more than WNET (channel 13) because ever since 9-11 WNET's signal has really sucked. ( I have a dish setup, one of the first actually but gave it up when it started costing me almost $100 a month and especially when Murdoch took it over).
Anyhoo, 21 seems to actually be troubled about the infiltration while 13 has said nary a word, if at all. They don't even respond to e-mail critiques. Almost anything 13 broadcasts can be found on 21 along with a few things unique. Plus it comes in clear as a bell on a regular antenna. Now if they would stop running subscription drives every other week...........

GravatarExpect Austin City Limits to be replaced by 'PBS Sings From Rev. Dobson's Hymnsheet'.

GravatarBlakNo1,
Well, if I had my way, movies and television would do away with "sexual tension" alltogether, since most people can't even pull it off in real life. It's just not neccessary, and even at best, it's distracting from the story and nothing more.

Pez,
Well, it definately had an effect on Chuck Berry. Jimi took a lot from Bo Diddley, as well, and they're all ripping off Louis Jordan.

One of Hendrix's first pro gigs was as Little Richard's sideman. He was going by "Jimmy James" at the time. Story goes, his onstage histronics were causing people to pay attention to him rather than Little Richard, so the Upsetter sacked him. Watching those two cats vie for audience attention must've been something to see indeed.

I suppose it is the 70th anniversary of his birth, or thereabouts.

Jeebus, that makes me feel aged.

Anyway, as they traveled videographically from his start as a entertainment-wise brash but privately very hesitant, unsophisticated, yet authority-figure worshipping young superstar, on to the witnessing and complicity by everybody around him of his ugly, prolonged poisoning to death, I looked at my wife and said "being first really sucks sometimes".

Any mention of Colonel Parker was notoriously absent from the special.

GravatarReid's Smear Raises Eyebrows At DoJ

The comments made on the Senate floor by Harry Reid about the information in the FBI file of Henry Saad have provoked a reaction from the Justice Department, the AP reports this morning. One day after Reid referred to a vague "problem" in Saad's file, Justice sent a reprimand to Reid about the proper use of FBI files:

The Justice Department is edging into the Senate controversy over judicial nominees, writing key lawmakers after Democratic Leader Harry Reid publicly referred to an FBI file on one of President Bush's controversial appointees.

"The letter expressed concern about recent remarks on the floor of the Senate which alluded to an FBI background investigation file provided by the Department of Justice to the Senate
Judiciary Committee on a confidential basis in connection with a judicial nomination," a department official said Friday night.

The official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, said the letter did not refer specifically to Reid, or to 6th Circuit Court nominee Henry Saad.

At the same time, it was dispatched one day after Reid alluded publicly to a confidential FBI report prepared on Saad, a 6th Circuit Court of Appeals nominee whose confirmation Democrats have sought to block.

GravatarProfane note aimed at Judge Lefkow

Tribune staff reports
Published May 14, 2005, 6:10 AM CDT

A man affixed a derogatory note about U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow to the window of a Gold Coast restaurant last night while the judge was dining there, police said early today.

Judge Lefkow, whose husband and mother were murdered Feb. 28 by a disgruntled plaintiff in a civil suit, was dining at the restaurant when U.S. marshals assigned to protect her saw the note on the window, said police spokesman Hector Alfaro.

Witnesses said a man put the note on the window of the Amarit Thai Restaurant, 1 E. Delaware Pl., before disappearing into the crowd, Alfaro said.

The note contained "derogatory, profane words" directed at Judge Lefkow but did not threaten her, police said. The incident occurred sometime between 8:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

GravatarI hope they don't mess with Entertainment Tonight with Jim Lehrer. That show is great, with all those liberal talking heads from AEI, Heritage, Cato, and such. and Condi's girlfriend Gwen, she is so hot.

GravatarTrollie gets busted:

From Charles Hurt's column of June 4, 2004:

Although the closed-door meeting succeeded in delaying Judge Saad's nomination one more week, it failed to remain secret. The hearing was broadcast over the Internet because of apparent inadvertence on the part of Republican staffers.

Gravatarcharley,
I'd have to ask my brother (who just split to play a wedding in Buckhead, God help him) or look it up (which I'm too lazy to do at the moment) to be sure, but I'm almost positive Hendrix's guitars were strung upside down (little strings towards his head, fat strings towards his feet). Or maybe I'm thinking of Albert King. I really don't do the "guitar hero" thing these days, admittedly, and would rather hear a guy like Steve Cropper or Leo Nocentelli. Guys who play as part of band rather than dudes just waiting for their solo.

GravatarIn other words, the very forced "sexual tension" bullshit is getting on my nerves, but it's ever thus.

Yeah, and did ytou notice how for like the first three episodes the Doctor was always whining about his fallibility and depending on some under-developed tertiary (invariably female) character to sacrifice herself for him? They have this completely stupid element to the writing, as where he barks "he was scared" at the Brit soldier (like he [the Brit] wasn't).
That said, it's still better than almost anything else in terms of the mental flexibility of the writing. We always find ourselves laughing at its cleverness.

Gravatarthey recently offered Faux here in Canada for 3 months free...so I called the cable company to say I sure as hell had not better be paying for this crap...the guy then asks me..so you don't like the station..I almost threw the phone..I said..well if I like having some asshole call me a socialist I suppose I would like it..what do you think...he finally says, well personally I watch the BBC or CBC..apparently they received several similar calls from these parts

What's this world coming to?

That's correct. He also tuned down one step lower on most songs. SRV did the same on some songs.

...and the Blue Flames as I recall. But was that before or after he was in the 101st airborne? I can't remember right off.

I don't blame Richard Penniman for dropping him. It's about survival. I remember going to a Ted Nugent concert in 1978 with Van Halen as the second billing. Eddie and company were dropped halfway across the US.

I think an Animals alumni, Chaz Chandler, actually helped springboard Jimi to US fame via the UK market.

Monterey '67 didn't hurt his prospects either.

You're a sick puppy. Do you even watch the news, darling?

GravatarI think I remember reading that Hendrix could play ambidextrously, no? Or was it that he could play with the guitar strung either way... I just remember he had some preference for the guitar being upside down so he could play with the selectors more easily.

GravatarIsn't totally unconscionable that PBS or any major news network would give any air time to a conservative to express his or her point of view? Total wingnut bias for all to see!

Way to dodge the point, coward.

Then again, what should we expect from your kind?

Gravatar"Busted"? Is this real pie busting a troll, or is this fake pie showing he can't read?

The latter.

GravatarYou are right, leftisright, those poor persecuted and underfunded talking heads from AEI, Heritage, and Cato have such a hard time getting on TV, so the fact that Entertainment Tonight with Jim Lehrer gives them a few nanoseconds just shows what liberal bias PBS has. When they finally allow moderates from the National States Rights Party and the Stormfront to share the stage with liberals from the Cato Institute and other Mellon-Scaife front organizations, well, then and only then will have PBS shed it's liberal, homosexual agenda

Gravatarkei & yuri,
Oh, Lord...the pig alien. I swear, the only redeeming qualities of that invasion two-parter were the MP character and the morgue doctor (hey, I thought she was cute). But that's another thing that's irritating me about this series. This Doctor, it seems, is completely incompetent and someone else is always "saving the day", be it the companion, the boyfriend or Charles Dickens. Angsty and tortured, while overdone and cliched as hell (boy, do I miss Bakers Tom and Colin), but is too much to ask from our fiction for a hero that can actually get shit done?

Gravatarthink I remember reading that Hendrix could play ambidextrously, no

He played left handed with the strings upside down, so it probably confused you.
The reason I know is because I drew a dozen or so pieces of him that are in the Jimi Hendrix museum/Experience Music Project.

GravatarPez,
Well, Chandler got him recording his stuff in England, where he was huge, but Monteray was where Hendrix really busted out on the American scene. Same concert that brought the glory that is Otis Redding to white people, matter of fact. Granted, I am horribly bias in this concern, but I've always thought the Big O ruled that show.

GravatarWhen they finally allow moderates from the National States Rights Party and the Stormfront to share the stage with liberals from the Cato Institute and other Mellon-Scaife front organizations, well, then and only then will have PBS shed it's liberal, homosexual agenda

GravatarAttaturk Alert: I linked to this story and added my own take over at First Draft.

Thank you for your patience.

GravatarNOVA, leaving room for non natural explainations.

GravatarGod fucking damn it I never thought I would see the day when people actively aspired to be stupider instead of smarter.

You didn't grow up in Kansas.

Gravatar"If the media were really biased to the left we would hear nothing but calls for the impeachment of the war criminal in the white house 24/7." (Der Überscheiße)

There would be prominent articles in major national newspapers explaining the benefits and wisdom of universal healthcare.

There would be positive coverage of workers and articulate expressions of their importance in the American economy.

The major teevee network coverage would be the opposite of the current bottom-line-driven, dumbed down model.

Has someone stolen your name recently?

The point was consolidation and monopoly, not opportunity.

If I misunderstood your post, I apologize.

GravatarYou didn't grow up in Kansas.

Speaking of Kansas, the world's most entertaining-and-scary-at-the-same-time preacherman is now going after high schoolers. Yep, them good ol' traditional values at work.

GravatarBackslider,

well thanx, it's not just a guitar hereo thing tho. i mean like most guys, guitar is what rock and roll is all about for me. and i've yet to see a guitar dude who doesn't bow to hendrix.

when i studied music in school most of the instructors were classically trained, and had little use for rock and roll in general, but they all admitted jimi was a different kind of animal. and hey, he played bob dylan songs. even dylan understood rock and roll is where it was at, and that takes plug'n in. "hey, hey, ... my, my... there is more to the picture, than meets the eye....

Pez, i saw some of that Elvis thing. kind of intereseting. even tho i clearly remember when he died, i was shocked he was only 42, he looked older.

Gravatarmy question? he played it upside down, i know, but were the strings inversed as well. in other words did hendrix play with the high e string where the rest of us have the low e string or did he just turn the guitar upside down so he could do the lefty thing?

He restrung it, flipped the nut and drilled a new strap-hole. One factor in his sound was that the strings were over the 'wrong' pickups. Albert King -- another fan of the Flying V -- played upside-down and un-restrung.

Hendrix had huge hands: so big that he could fret the low E with his thumb and still wrap around for chords.

Gravatar(I know these things as a lefty, since you have a shitty selection of guitars. Jimi had even less to choose from, so it was a no-brainer to flip his Strats. When you think that he was playing stuff near the bottom of the fretboard with the smaller cutaway, it's a testament to how freakin' big the man's hands were.)

GravatarPBS at Chez X: No Moyers, no moolah.

The "Tucker Carlson" robot can blow my dog, that unwatchable fuck.

And I'm with David E... my TV is for watching DVDs and sometimes C-SPAN.

Gravatar Same concert that brought the glory that is Otis Redding to white people, matter of fact.

Though Otis was already big in the UK and Europe, where there was never the same racial barrier in 60s music. My mother's collection of Tamla Motown and Stax singles is to be cherished.

GravatarSpeaking of Kansas, the world's most entertaining-and-scary-at-the-same-time preacherman is now going after high schoolers.

You know, I'm a peaceful sort, but I'd honestly pay for an Iraqi insurgent to come to the US and drive an explosives-packed car into the hateful inbred fuckhead Phelps clan at one of their protests, provided that no-one else got hurt.

Yup. I got the rare treat of having a chat with bass maestro Donald "Duck" Dunn a few years back, and he said the reaction from the European crowd was, frankly, scary as shit. Especially when the Beatles themselves were worshipping at their feat. The video from that tour (which I've seen once and haven't been able to track down since) is incredible, if just to see Sam & Dave blow everyone off the stage.

Gravatarone for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now four, lets go, go, go... now don't you step on my blue suede shoes. you can do anything, but don't step on my blue suede shoes. (probably misqouted.)

i don't know who this originates with but think'n of an old hendrix album i had, "best from the west"

in other news, dwezil, (sp) sold for one million dollars the guitar that his father purchased for 25,000 that jimi burnt at the montery pop festival. i don't think i would have done that.

frank, called glen burnie md. the town up the street from my birthplace (severna park) the "armpit of the world." sounds about right.

i know, who gives a fuck. i just want to say there is no way big bird could be any thing but a liberal. he always irritated me, i didn't really like him, but his heart is definitely in the right place, which of course is on the left. republicans have no heart, which is the problem with them.

and all you republican troll mother fuckers, eat me! it used to not matter to me, but now it does. you stole it from john kerry, that i believe. it's peraonal now. go harry, go!!!

GravatarMrs. Ibrahim al-Jaafari:

Your "Entertainment Tonight with Jim Lehrer" twanged a nerve. I a nutshell, I was put onto "The MacNeil-Lehrer Report" back when I was a young and intellectually earnest lad. I credit one of those truly inspired high school history/current events teachers who introduced students to the obligations of critical thinking and an inquiring mind.

As I've mentioned here a few times, my M/L addiction transferred to their News Hour. I watched the entire hour faithfully for years. After Robert MacNeil retired, I finally began to back off. And then, somehow, beginning with the 2000 presidential campaign,, I began to be put off by the transformation to, as you say, "Entertainment Tonight".

I'm curious as to what changed. Lehrer certainly seems to have a conservative demeanor. His show seems to have gotten ahead of the PBS rightward-tilt bandwagon. Was Robert MacNeil, conspicuously on Nixon's enemies list, the progressive/iconoclastic spirit of their enterprise?

GravatarI've dumped both PBS and NPR as a member but have opted into satellite radio in large part because it devotes three channels to NPR and PRI.

These channels make available some of the better discussion programs produced around the country for public radio -- Warren Olney, Radio Times, Brian Lehrer, Diane Rehm, Fresh Air, On the Media, Forum... and on and on. I contribute the money I used to send to our local public radio station to those productions -- and to Democracy Now (via Link) and other non-profit, open-minded productions.

"Talk Left" (Hartmann, Schultz, et al.) and Air America are also available by satellite.

Aside from finally having good reception -- no small blessing in this rural area -- it's really good to have access to the best of public radio plus the BBC and CBC. No TV -- couldn't stand it anymore.

It's a whole new world, not at all like having nothing but the old crap on network and cable TV. I don't miss the often frustrating local public radio station (which didn't carry some of the best stuff).

Add a Netflix membership and... bliss out!

GravatarHey gang.

Jimi played right-handed Strats with the strings flipped. I'm a lefty that started with the strings upside down. I
hate that shit. You can't get a decent sound with the strings upside down. Jimi played the right-handed Strats because they were available. Lefty's are still few and far between.

Backslider - McCartney is one of the most inventive, original bass players that I am familiar with. Dear Prudence and Baby You're a Rich Man are a couple of tunes where he shines.

Plus, he could do lead runs and sing at the same time. Not many folks can do that.

GravatarIt may be hard with all the crap programming they run during fundraisers on PBS but it may be important to only donate during programs you like. Don't give them the general usual donation anymore once you are on their list. If Tucker and the Wall Street nuts don't get the donations but Nova and Now get the pledge calls it could hold PBS over until democracy is restored in our country.

GravatarBackslider - they'll likely get the same reaction that Phelps got in Oklahoma, when he went after that kid that came out and won a trip. The town got very fed up very quickly.

The kid's Baptist minister, who had been actually trying to counsel him "straight" went after Phelps from the pulpit. I like it when the fundies pull out all the stops. It definitely works against them, nine times out of ten.

GravatarBilly B,
No shit. McCartney's a hoss, no question about it. Playing bass and singing lead is tough with a capital T. Him, Jack Bruce and Joey Spaminato have my undying awe for that ability to play rich, textured (if not overly complicated) bass lines and still be able to sing lead. I'd throw Rick Danko in there, too, even if the Band songs he sings seem to be more or less structured in such a way that he can take a break on bass (short one, anyway) to sing, and vice versa. But the Band as a whole bring the concept of "awesome" to a whole new level.

GravatarPW - that does sounds blissful. I really dislike TV, but I do enjoy having the radio on during the day.

I used to listen to NPR. Then it slowly started coming unraveled here. Locally, the station dropped Science Friday and then we got 2 hours of a local talking head's call in show. I finally had quit listening.

I keep trying to get Mr. Tena interested in satellite...

Ok, off to watch a DVD. Ciao and peace, moonbats.

GravatarBluto's right.

It's important that reality-based subscribers NOT drop their subscriptions to public broadcasting. That's exactly what these misanthropes want.

Same way they're "starving the beast" (according to Grover Norquist).

Support -- and dialogue -- at the local level is important. Tomlinson can be cut down to size if this happens in the top markets alone (which, well, gosh, remarkably) are all Blue territory.

Gravatar'Slider -

You da man. Jack Bruce. He's the guy that started the power trio deal, eh?
Able to fill in all that space with only three players is amazing.

I love Danko. Ever tell you that the the piano player for the proto Band (Ronnie Hawkins' backups the Hawks), Will 'Pop' Jones' wife was my piano teacher in grade school? Levon grew up in Marvell, AR, 22 miles from my hometown of Marianna.

Also, for favorite bass players, John Entwistle and Chris Squier deserve a couple of nods. Altho those two resemble lead guitar players as much as bass players.

GravatarIn the Contract on America, insensitive Republicans went after public television by trying to axe it. The left and center went nuts.

This is a much cleaner and more devious strategy. Make public television so ugly that nobody wants to keep it alive.

Where would this country be without the internet.

GravatarI stopped giving to PBS when they had the skank, "Dr" Laura on during pledge time. Admittedly, this is just what the Repugs want. We keep it going and when we no longer fund it, it's gone--their ultimate goal. Our only alternative is "proportional programming." Based on the party affiliation of donators, the programming mirrors it. Repugs are notoriously cheap bastards so their slice will be 1/96 of the pie.

And speaking of faux Pie,he fucks mules.

See I Saw Her Standing There, and Oh! Darling cf.

Gravatardamnede if i donate while georgie is in charge.

GravatarPBS has sucked for years. They'll just make it suckier.

I don't use the TV for anything other than watching videos.

Isn't that the truth. PBS wasn't too bad, but television in general. I love hearing people talk about how many cable/satellite channels the get. I figure it's that many more channels to go through to find out there still is nothing on television AND of course you still can't get any real news out of the thing any more.

GravatarThought this link would fit right in this thread...Gotta heart Fiore!!

The new animation "Broadcasting" has just been posted!
