Five hundred bucks for shoes? Good gravy....were I to drop half a grand on a pair of shoes, them fuckers better do all the walking for me. Don't y'all have Payless stores in Pennsylvania? McAllyn,
I'm glad there was a hospital that treated your cancer. Presumably (and hopefully)that treatment was successful.
If this man and his comrades get their way, those hospitals might not be affordable by the rest of us, especially those of us who can't drive our big SUV up to a shoe store to buy a $500 pair of shoes.

Brazil, baby, Brazil! Brazil shoemakers still use the good old American last too, the one that all the US shoemakers used, and the one that actually tends to fit US customers. There's a little matter of actual leather too, as opposed to pre-printed vinyl-ite. And since there are at most maybe one or two US shoemakers still in business (men's only of course) I recommend you look for the Brazillian manufacturers - they got lots and lots of cows and their shoes fit US good.

frank rich kicks some fundie ass in his column -- an excerpt:
Just How Gay Is the Right?
...Today's judge-bashing firebrands often say that it isn't homosexuality per se that riles them, only the potential legalization of same-sex marriage by the courts. That's a sham. These people have been attacking gay people since well before Massachusetts judges took up the issue of marriage, Vermont legalized civil unions or Gavin Newsom was in grade school. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, characterizes the religious right's anti-gay campaign as a 30-year war, dating back to the late 1970's, when the Miss America runner-up Anita Bryant championed the overturning of an anti-discrimination law protecting gay men and lesbians in Dade County, Fla., and the Rev. Jerry Falwell's newly formed Moral Majority issued a "Declaration of War" against homosexuality. A quarter-century later these views remained so unreconstructed that Mr. Falwell and the Rev. Pat Robertson would go so far as to pin the 9/11 attacks in part on gay men and lesbians - a charge they later withdrew but that Mr. Robertson repositioned just two weeks ago. In response to a question from George Stephanopoulos, he said he now believes that activist judges are a more serious threat than Al Qaeda.
Their cronies are no different. As The Washington Post reported, Rick Scarborough, the Texas preacher and Tom DeLay acolyte whose "Patriot Pastor" network is a leading player in the judiciary battle, first became active in politics in 1992, when he helped oust a local high-school principal for the crime of presiding over an AIDS-awareness assembly. The American Family Association, whose leader, the Rev. Donald Wildmon, is a Scarborough ally, had been whipping up homophobia long before anyone suspected SpongeBob SquarePants of being a stalking horse (or at least a stalking sea sponge) for same-sex marriage. So-called research available on the Wildmon Web site for years - and still there as of last week - asserts that 17 percent of gay men "report eating and/or rubbing themselves with the feces of their partners" and 15 percent "report sex with animals." ...

Nicely said, though I understand the "populist appeal" of ranting about expensive shoes. It fits in with expensive hair cuts and bo-tox talk as a reference that our Representatives are not very representative of the average American.

My dad had a hand-tailored suit and Bally shoes in his twenties (during the swinging 60s) and it cost him about three month's wages. But damn, he looked good.
And to boot (you must excuse) Pop had, after the war, a tremendous affection for cashmere socks - something not easy to come by in Alberta, even at the Bay. Mummy learnt how to darn on those socks - but darnit, pure self-indulgence is one thing (four years in the CBI Theatre, molting, okay, buy the cashmere socks, Pop, it's fine!) versus self-indulgence as a 'right' and unthinking and stupid. I encourage every man to buy himself nice shoes and good socks - even if they aren't a g-d Senator. I doubt, with all my heart, that the Senator feels the same way. That's the difference of course. Parvenu son of a bitch.

i'm not a friggen troll for having an opinion of atrios, by the way.
i'm just becoming increasingly frustrated with what i see coming from the so-called progressives on my side of the aisle.
someone needs to hold people's feet to the fire every now and again.
i can't tell you how much crap i took for that post but you know what, atrios has seemingly listened as i don't see the same amount of open threads here anymore. i've given atrios a lot of credit for that.
i've stated given credit to atrios several times on my blog since my post but i wouldn't expect any of you who are calling me a troll to know that.
maybe it was wrong to come here and ask about the list of senators but i figure that since it was big news at the time, you'd know more about it than i would.. i'm just coming into the story now because school is finally over.

Read the tabbi link. This was amusing:
But my absolute favorite is the amendment, proposed by Bill Nelson of Florida, to exempt from means testing individuals whose debts were incurred as a result of identity fraud. It would be hard to imagine any legitimate objection to this amendment. The only rational objection to this amendment would be that your tongue is so far up the ass of MBNA,

$500 for a pair of shoes? $250? Frist is wasting his money. As is the Bush Boy and his $4000 suits.
While I am not sure as to what Frist looks like in a pair of $250 kicks, the Bush Boy might as well buy his shit off the rack at Sears because that's what he looks like in them. What a coupla putzes.

And open threads are a sign of Democrats being "feckless wimps"?
I thought they were melting pots that allowed competing ideas to be attaturk'ed and discussed by Progressives {and trolled by people who don't like free form discussion}.

No, that requires double time and notification to the History Union and that hasn't happened.

And Greed is the creed, heart-surgeon or senator. Only became a senator to pad the family bankroll by exempting the family medical practice from taxes and regulations. Got hisself delusions of adequacy, thinks he can preznit better than half-wit the Twit installed last time. Fuck 'em, bury them in their own shit. They have lost their souls, and won't be re-souled.

Nicely said, though I understand the "populist appeal" of ranting about expensive shoes.
Oh, god yes. I suspect that Frist's constituents in rural Tennessee would be pleased to know that he slaps down that kind of cash on a couple of pairs of penny loafers, while consipiring to take the shoes from their feet.

And open threads are a sign of Democrats being "feckless wimps"?
Nah, I still thought the "Death To Open Threads!" post was crap. Although I still think their primary purpose is simply to bridge the gap between how many content posts Atrios can make, and how many posts we need to keep comment threads from going stale.
I'm just more willing to grant some benefit of the doubt to someone who's frustrated with the Democrats' tendency to cave and capitulate when they think they can get away with it.

Meaning that you want to kick some ass, eh?
If so, I am on the same page.
My teachers in school would scold me for using profanity and would say that, by using profanity, I was unable to express myself in proper English.
My retort was always that I could articulate in the King's English just fine, but when I start cussing, you really get my point and know I sure as fuck mean business.

If you look at the campaign, it's not an interaction between the candidate and the voters. The media is selling the campaign to its audience. It's a top-down process. The only time the public even appears is through poll numbers. It really is a giant commercial, and I spent most of my time trying to figure out what it was a commercial for.

So Matt did his darndest to effect change, but the poll numbers did him wrong.

Right on. If the Dems only realized how fucking much mileage the Bush Boy gets from acting like a badass punk (altho you and I know the wuss would fold up like a tent if you busted his nose), then they would start acting like that instead of whimpering as they do.

I am currently at the intersection of "Sadness bvld", and "Truth is a bitch way".
But of course you are referring to the 'mericans among the citizenry. I saw lots of them today. Lots of flags and shirts with slogans that seemed tough, like, "We protect Freedom" or suchlike in giant letters on the back and other badges signaling the bearer to be a loyal member of Team 'merica.
All that matters is that you *act* like a tough guy.
We're one country in a big world.
A country that doesn't honor its military dead.
A country that doesn't take adequate care of wounded vets.
A country that tries to bully young men and women into joining up.

Will he pay his ticket? Members of Congress are notorious for not paying traffic tickets in DC.
Will he pay from his pocket or from his office funds?

Hearthrug. Otherwise, yes. I get the cozy chair, with a glass of sherry on the biscuit table. Arthur prefers a biscuit on the hearthrug as he reads his notices. Otherwise, you have it right.
