There was no soap made from human fat, this was in fact a rumor that went around the camps. You can find a minority of historians who believe there may have been a single experiment based on very shaky evidence.
Hoess was in fact tortured, he signed something saying that he had killed three million people at Auchwitz. Hoess knew how many had died and said in his memoirs that it was 1.1 million. That's exactly what the last demographic study done says it was and that number isn't disputed.
This is exactly what deniers thrive on. Those things weren't "debunked", that was a stupid word for Hitchens to use. These things weren't being claimed by serious historians.
