I said a few days ago that I thought in this period of falling polls and rising political and financial scandal, the lowly bumbersticker could be useful -- especially since we can now make our own (via makestickers.com) as well as coordinate our message via atrios.
I have a few extra copies of "SICK OF THE WAR, SICK OF THE LIES." and would be happy to mail one to anybody who asks -- on the condition that you order some on your own and give them away.
That's the theme I think we all should be wearing, but I also have a few of "GET OUT, APOLOGIZE & HANG BUSH," "BUSH WILL FIND THE NUKES when OJ finds the real killer" and, for UNIX types, "cat Bush >/dev/null."
Does anyone else watch Lawrence Welk for amusement?

If you had to watch them, as a child, when they were first broadcast, you'd probably find that takes a lot of the amusement value out of it.
Great Welk story: Apparently he was helplessly dependent on his cue cards, reciting them brainlessly. Once he said, on the air: "And uhnow, umm... one of your-uh favorites, from uh-World War Eye."

Although the legality of the war has been more of an issue in Britain than in America, the revelations indicate Bush may also have acted illegally, since Congress did not authorise military action until October 11 2002.
The air war had already begun six weeks earlier and the spikes of activity had been underway for five months.

Do you believe President Bush misled the nation in order to go to war with Iraq?
currently 94% YES, 46,000 responses
MSNBC provides an explanation of why these polls are not scientific and gives a "should Clinton leave office" example. 73% of the online poll said yes but only 34% said yes to a properly designed poll. A substantial difference but not nearly as one sided as this. It may not be scientific but when it is this one-sided I think that we can conclude that most people do think he lied.

One day when the subject under discussion was Michelle Maglagulag, I made one of the more reckless comments I've made. The troll, ether, was on the thread and he was delighted - he said he was going to tell Michelle on me. Big Woop.
Instead, he told Ted Rall, who posted the comment as an example of inappropriate commentary. I emailed him and very nicely explained that the comment was taken out of a 400+comment thread, that I had modified my statement two comments down and that I thought it unfair of him to listen to a right wing troll. I pointed out that for all he knew, it could have been a namestealer's comment.
The short on his response is: fucking sorry asshole. He was rude and obnoxious.

I agree, but 94 to 6 indicates either that there are a lot more of us or that we are a lot more compulsive than the freepers. My observations would suggest that the freepers are usually a lot more compulsive than us. This suggests to me that doubt is starting to seep into their normally tightly closed minds.

ether emailed Ted about a comment Tena made about our favorite internment camp apologist. Tena explained the exact reason for her statement in her next comment, but Ted found her original one more pertinent to the point he was trying to make about incendiary language.

Ted Rall in a nutshell.
I was attending a panel ata conference where it was him and 4 other political cartoonists. Rall made a huge point about how self-censorship was death, and anyone who self-censored was a big fat pussy. came back to the point again and again, extending it to say that there was NO subject, foreign or domestic, that was too sacred to touch.
in the Q&A that followed I asked why none of the five had ever covered the Israel/Palestinian issue. watching Rall squirm away from the question was a thing of beauty. at least Keith Knight and Jen Sorenson were honest about there avoidance of the issue.

David Brooks column on Frist in Sunday NYT is not too bad. When he is writing about repubs, what do we care?
In the last 4 graphs of his column below, I think Brooks is right on the money. (I remember Wapo did a glowing profile on Frist during his first term, hinting that he might become president one day. I don't think wapo would do that kind of profile on Frist today.)
Anyway, last few graphs of Brookster column:
But the Senate changes people. Senators are endlessly polished and briefed; they spend their days relentlessly speechifying. The White House beckons, and some come to seem less like human beings and more like nation-states. Opinions turn into positions. Beliefs grow more abstract. Individual traits become parts of the brand.
Since 1961, more than 50 senators have run for president and they have all lost.
Frist too appears to have been gradually altered. Many who've known him say it's hard to square the current on-message leader with the honest young man of "Transplant," the stiff, ideological politician with the beloved community leader who made such a mark on Nashville.
Sometimes in their quests to perform greater acts of service, people lose contact with their animating passion. And the irony is that the earlier Frist, the Tennessee Republican, the brilliant and passionate health care expert, is exactly the person the country could use.

That's what I figured too. Plus it's giving him face time with the wingers. Maybe he'll change some minds.

Clark could aslo be practing speaking extemporaneously. Didn't he have trouble w/this when he was campaigning? going head-to-head w/the idiot Hannity should be good practice for dealing with the press corps.

Let us give some allowance to Brooks when he is writing about repubs.
His main point (I didn't give you the whole column and didn't give the link, because I don't want to give him too many easy hits) is: Frist was an idealist, social service provider and a moderate repub like Howard Baker, but something happened, when the presidential bug bit him. He is a changed man now for the worse and is beyond recognition.
With that, I agree.

You mean, "First we'll kill all the lawyers!"?
You have a point.
After the next terrorist attack, the Bush regime suspends elections & starts rounding up posters at Eschaton. After a hasty tribunal at Gitmo, Eli, Woody Guthrie's Guitar & I are sentenced to death and are put in front of a firing squad. The officer in charge asks Eli if he wants a blindfold. Eli answers, "I just can't see it!" He asks me and I answer, "Yes, sir I do, thank you very much!" He asks Woody who shouts at the top of his voice, "Absolutely not! This is an outrage! No blindfold! I want nothing for you despicable tyrant!"
I lean towards him and in an anguished voice say, "Woody, please don't make trouble."

I told them about Pat Sajak being a nutcase. They thought I was jerking them around, so I went to his website and printed one of his rants where he said everyone on the left cheers when things go bad in Iraq.
Anyone remember his very short-lived talk show.

Terry C - said he was going to tell the FBI. I figured he'd have a hard time explaining who this Maglagulag person was - I didn't even use her name.
It was all a big tempest in a teapot, until Ted Rall got into it. Or Ralls - whatever his name is.
He grew the unpleasantness exponentially.
I had pretty much forgotten it, but when his name comes up, it brings the whole thing back. I should just forget it. And almost had until someone - Thersites? - told me Michelle is now publishing a book with rude liberal comments in it.
I really hate Ted Rall.

Actually, Lawrence Welk is very popular on PBS because of senior citizens. With the cutbacks in live concerts (Lincoln Center and the like), Lawrence Welk reruns are an easy and cheap way to please one of PBS's loyal segments.
Otherwise, they will write to their congressmen, you know.

now where do i want to go, pie?
old fucking hat accuses me of being an anti-semite. hmmmm, a self-hater, then.
what i hate is the state of israel. a gangster regime that only exists because of usa tax dollars.
it is a total gangster state. in its zest for cash, the israeli intell services have consulted, advised, instructed a large number of totalitarian regimes. hell, they even took contracts to advise jorge videla, hugo banzer, and salvador's arena party.
illegal drug-running? israeli intell services are in the forefront. ecstacy, mdma, has been one of their specialties. and the dea gives them a free ride. i suppose because they get a cut on the action.
with the large number of russian, jewish gangsters that have relocated to israel, i like to describe israel as usbekistan on the med. or better yet, miami on the med.
when you ponder on the palestinian predicament, consider chechnya.
the state of israel is as comfortable with killing every palestinian as putin's kgb establishment is comfortable in killing every chechnyan.
as bush and the american people are comfortable with killing all the iraqis.
and soon, in a theater near you, you will learn how the amerikan citizenry relish murdering iranians.
old fucking hat accuses me of being an anti-semite. hmmmm, a self-hater, then.
You guys used to talk in the wee hours, and I missed the fireworks.
And there's no anti-semitism in my family either.

and don't you want to know the wallace synagogue.
i sure do. i want to learn the identity of the rebbe who would seem to be preaching a violation of the decalogues.
or perhaps the wallaces[walechinskys?] freelance their understandings of the torah. they just make it all up as they go along with the murderings of the deity's children.
somehow, we have to get beyond the jewish enthronement that ww2 created. arik sharon is no more noble than was any nazi gauleiter. and the faster that is recognized, the better our understanding of the homicidal mania in the middle east will be.
Whatever THAT was about....

Tired of being accused of anti-semitism? What can you do about it?
Nothing. Because it's in all likelihood true.
Consider:
You know, I disapprove of a lot of things about Van Halen. I think the way that Van Halen have hired and fired singers with no notice is classless in the extreme. I think Eddie is personally to blame for his unique whammied-up guitar style becoming such an Eighties cliche. I think Van Hanlen are a bloated, strife-ridden corporate entity, whose contract squabbles are at least as interesting as their music anymore. I think Van Halen fans are uniformly and irredeemably obnoxious, in their triumphalist mockery of predecessors like The Who and Led Zeppelin. I think Van Halen in no way deserve to headline any bill, or even to be able to book most venues. I think Van Halen’s continued existence stifles the emergence and growth of newer, fresher bands. Indeed, it could not be construed as much of a loss if Van Halen and its fans were to disappear altogether, in some non-violent way.
But no one can accuse me of anti-Van Halenism. You Repuke, you.

so facile.
such bullshit.
rock and roll bands don't kill people. don't kill a nation, generations of palestinians.
oh, you might offer the stones at altamount, but it was sonny barger and his monsters that did the killing.
the state of israel is a homicidal state. closely allied with this other homicidal state - you know the name - UNITED STATE OF AMERIKA.
are you old fucking hat posting under a nom de plume?
