Ummm, yes. And it has been for a while. Any so-called moderate rethuglicans who want to pretend that they still are running the show should freaking think again.

GravatarFrist-the-Doctor finally won the battle of conscience with Frist-The-Lunatic-Nutbar.

GravatarDurbin was asking the conservabots today why they wouldn't lobby for the banning of in-vitro.

Heh. Because it makes Frist and Co. millions of dollars at his family's chain of for-profit hospitals?

Probably.

GravatarI can't imagine why he changed on stem cell. I thought his only supporters were Dobson's bunch.

GravatarWhat scares me is the positively attractive picture of the warm and inviting Dr. Frist on the ad to your right.

Makes it clear how easy image is to manipulate, at least in the short term.

GravatarDer Bingle,

I'm thinking Gore. Seriously.

Love the title of this post! It reminds me of a dungeons and dragons game gone wayward.

GravatarOh, Frist will back down. He's got a spine of semicooked noodles, theres no way he's going to stand up and defend what he actually believes.

We'll here a few mea culpa's about misquotes and misunderstandings, and then a blond woman will disappear and you'll never hear another word about it.

GravatarHackett ROCKS - still being interviewed by Mike Signorile ...

GravatarJeeze, what happens when two empty headed morons collide?

GravatarBecause it makes Frist and Co. millions of dollars at his family's chain of for-profit hospitals?

Interesting theory, although I don't think that IVF's a line of business that HCA's into.

On the other hand, maternity wards are quite profitable, and to the extent that IVF increases business in maternity wards, well ....

GravatarDoes this mean that "Culture of Life" is about to drop from #4 on this week's Billboard Top 10 GOP Sound Bites?

Gravatar I can't imagine why he changed on stem cell. I thought his only supporters were Dobson's bunch.

Does anyone else suspect frist is in need of some of the future benefits of stem cell research (Alzheimers anyone?)?

GravatarHe's got a spine of semicooked noodles

Stem cell research might be able to cure that.

GravatarIS THAT FROM STAR TREK

GravatarThe Dems need to find their inner squirrly wrath.

GravatarHit 'em from the Right...ask a social conservative why DeLay has been in control of the House for so long, and Bush is in his second term, and still abortion is legal and there is no same-sex marriage amendment.

Ask them if maybe the Republicans may be manipulating them for political purposes.

Introduce them to the Constitution Party.

Wedge issues can be our friends, too.

GravatarAnd I think that this country is falling apart at the seams. Only because the republicans control everything. That is good and bad. Good, because maybe, just maybe, most of the people in this country will see it for what has happened. Bad, because we are in such deep doo doo shit, that we will all pay for it, whether or not we supported it.

I am so pissed.

Gravatar"Vegetative State" vs. "Persistent Vegetative State"

That and the money. Seriously, why would Frist take the stand that Terri Schiavo was a life worth saving, but embryonic stem cells are not?

Because a Schiavo scenario is one in which people pour money into a hospital to keep someone alive, and because embryonic stem cell research is gonna be HUGELY profitable for the pharmaceutical industry.

To Frist, you are only as important, or worth saving, as you are profitable.

The profitablility of an ER depends on the hospital's location and whether or not the majority of visits are knife and gun club or heart attacks and auto accidents. The latter make money, the former don't - which is why public hospitals are often the only ones with ER's in inner cities.

And why so many ER's are closing.

GravatarSo, I'm guessing Frist found out he wasn't going to be annointed heir-apparent after Cheney steps down for "health reasons" after the '06 elections? At least, not now he isn't.

GravatarAnother great essay by driftglass. I rate his chops right up there Digby. Bookmark him, now!

That was the astonishment of his re-election: that 51 million Americans looked a criminal in the eye, steeped in his crimes to the point of bloody saturation...and then looked at a genuine war hero, a grown-up and, for all his flaws, more of a statesman in any contiguous five minute period than Bush has ever been his whole, sorry life...

...and said, “I’d like a double scoop of Criminal Dumbass please. With extra treasonous sprinkles!”

Conscience has nothing to do with it -it's political expediency.

GravatarThis is an interesting question on stem cell research I came across, anybody have a heads up on this stuff?

"The collection of stem cells from the umbilical cord has been hailed as the biggest breakthrough since antibiotics. 'The reason for collecting the cells from the umbilical cord is quite simple,' explains Dr Daly. 'The umbilical cord is a rich source of stem cells and the cells, at the time of collection have yet to find their path and can therefore be treated to become any type of cell needed. It is possible to extract the cells from adults but this is a more invasive process and the stem cells are more differentiated compared to the pluripotent umbilical cord stem cells. Basically, there is no guarantee of finding the correct type. The cells we collect however have the potential to treat almost any illness imaginable.'"

EZSmirkzz said this http://ezsmirkzz.blogspot.com/20...stem- cells.html

What I find interesting here is that this is the only article I found using "Pluripotent umbilical cord stem cells" in google, and will look later into the multipotent stem cells that are usually associated with umbilical stem cells. All in all the situation is a little weird, since the public has been lead to believe that a stem cell is a stem cell, inwhich case there is very little reason to antagonize large portions of the population with this issue.
