Gravatarfrist?

GravatarWoo Hoo!!!

Haven't been frist since forever...

GravatarCourse, it helps when you're the only one on the thread....and you're talking to yourself.

GravatarFourthy

GravatarOh boy -- my local PBS station is about to show The Journal Editorial Report. I wonder if I can make it through without puking all over this nice new thread.

GravatarWould it be tacky to yell "fifth"?

Or third, 'cause of flory an' 'at.

.

GravatarActually, if I really wanted to puke, I could turn on ESPN and watch "2005 U.S. Open of Competitive Eating."

GravatarYaaayyy!!

Company.

Your Excellency - why would you want to watch the Journal Provided RNC Talking Points?

Gravatarwell, it is so sad. and so strange.

the last time i felt this way was in the late summer of 1964. i was a counselor at this camp in maine. we were watching the red sox when the game was interrupted to tell us that johnson was going to go to war with north vietnam because of its attack on amerikan ships of the line.

i recall that even then, i said, bullshit. oddly enough, none of my fellow counselolrs argued with me. though less questioning of the state, clearly they were not happy about their exposure to being killed by a fraudulent war. and their fears were justified,

some were murdered by the state. i was not.

lucky me.

this current era in amerika i find to be very troubling.

the most troubling aspect is the ignorance of the populace. at all levels. exactly what i encountered 40 years ago.

the most astonishing stys that i find are those that relate how the bushit state is enlisting west africans, fijians so as to supplement us force levels in iraq, so as to do anythiing to prevent the reimposition of the draft, which would probably terminate both parties in the usa.

weeping for this country, i crash now. i wish i had a scheme that would save it. but i don't..

i am lost. and as i view it, if am lost, then this country is lost.

pray that we find a way to find our way.

i am an adult who has seen death and destruction. still, the bushits scare me. as someone said not too long ago, be afraid, be very afraid.

was that jimmy breslin? it was.

GravatarMaybe it'll be fun if I treat it as a drinking game, with one shot per RNC talking point spewed forth ...

GravatarMaybe it'll be fun if I treat it as a drinking game, with one shot per RNC talking point spewed forth ...

GravatarThat lousy fella in Vatican City sez:

my local PBS station is about to show The Journal Editorial Report.

It's called "balance."

Ken Tomlinson is my heeero.

Cardinal Ratzass

NOOooooo!!

Serious risk of liver toxicity.

Well, OK - but you have to give me the car keys first.

GravatarOh, by the way: I missed something: What's with the "-ix" thing?

.

GravatarWSJ editorial board summary: "GDP grew at 3.4%, S&P 500 is at a four-year high, housing market is strong, interest rates are low, unemployment is at a four-year low ... but consumer confidence is down. Why don't ungrateful Americans realize how good they have it?"

GravatarWSJ continued: "It's the liberal media's fault for talking down the economy."

GravatarNow they've run out of things to talk about so they've just gone to bashing Jane Fonda.

GravatarSpork:
There was discussion on an earlier thread of Asterix vs. Obelix. Elaine Supkis(ix) decided today (yesterday) was "ix" day.

Yer Exzelency - so the WSJ is happy that quarterly earnings are up - and unemployment is lower than its been in Dumbya's reign to date?

Quelle surprise!!

And now I'm off to bed.

Night, batty moons.

GravatarPlace your bets on whether Bolton gets a recess appointment.

GravatarAsterix vs. Obelix.

Ah, first thing I thought. But I am not an "-ix"

Oh, well.

Now I shall try to sleep.

Laters.

.

Gravatar i wish i had a scheme that would save it. but i don't..

I don't either Albert.

And I'm frightened too. I'm too the point where I can't really think about it any more.

GravatarMorning Moonbats.

Morning crew reporting for duty. Just clocking in, then will have some coffee. Crazy evening you guys had.

GravatarIt's hard work being president. Fifty trips to Crawford in five years. But it will be a working vacation. W plans on making several trips to try and sell his agenda.

Would you buy a used car from that man.

GravatarQL sez:

Morning crew reporting for duty.

Good Lord. (By "Lord" I mean Voldemort, of course.)

So this is what it's like in the early AM.

My coffee maker doesn't turn on until 5:45 and I'm not going to encourage it. Or maybe I will.

.

Gravatarmorning QL, spork and everyone else up at this insane hour.

i watched network last night.

i saw it once a long time ago, but didn't remember it.

if it were being made today, i don't think it would have been allowed.

and QL--vacationing is HARD WORK. but someone has to do it.

GravatarHi,
Check out the new Comic At The Hollywood Liberal

Bill Frist Just Signed His Own Death Warrant.

HLs Main Page

If you like that there are lots more at HLs Comic Features Page

Thanks.

Gravatarspork

so quiet you can almost hear the buzzing in w's head. Sometimes we get trolls, usually not though.

What did I miss last night. Just the fact that Bolton will receive a recess appointment. Good, now w will have to take responsibility when Bolton fucks up. And fuck up he will. Only this time, he will have the foreign press on his case. Good thing too, since the American press seems to have pretty much given him a pass.

Gravatar¡Ay Compadres!

Thanks.

Gravatarfrist is a flip flopper.

he changes his mind.

what mind?

Gravatarmorning her eyes.

Yeah, what is with Frist. Must be his hospital chain wants to get in on the action. Or he is trying to be more moderate in hopes of catching the sane wing of his party. He will be slimed big time though. Did you read the freepers that someone linked to yesterday. Hooboy. They are pissed. And we haven't even started with Rove yet.

Gravatarher eye sez:

i watched network last night.

Silly you.

.

Gravatari try not to go to the freeper sites. i went over one time, and have never seen more relion-mania deluded fools in one place. i had some sort of bad reaction (nausea, vomitting) i couldn't go back.

of course he's just trying to win the nomination for president in 08.

we do need that law passed, however.

do i think he came to his senses about it? no. he's doing it to play both sides of the fence.

Gravatarok, no secret.

i have no life.

GravatarWhat shall we name the New planet in orrrbeet around el Sol?

¿eh?
so.
¡El Gato Negro

Well, amigo, we've pretty well run through the Roman pantheon.

I think "Bob" would be nice.

Gravatarwow. i sent an email to hackett yesterday, and his team thanked me!

never got a response that wasn't a form letter before!

GravatarHer eyes,

I'm with you on the Frist change of heart. I don't care why he did it. I want that bill passed, and by 61 votes to freak the Resident.

GravatarEen the name of all keeties, and el populacho bajo el control de ellos... (wheech I love)

I, ¡El Gato Negro! por la presente, bautizo este planeta es ¡Gato Mundo!

so.

Gravatari find it reprehensible. the freepers are supposedly so "pro-life" but they do nothing to enhance the lives already here.

stem cell research would benefit so many...

GravatarI think "Bob" would be nice.

"Bob" is a great name. Me? I think everything should be named "Bob".

Really.

.

Gravatarher eyes -

I mentioned yesterday that I've sent a couple motivational 'Marine' letters to Major Hackett... and that they've been answered personally.

I'm not at all underestimating this Marine.

Gravatarok, no secret.

i have no life.

her eyes

Heehee. We kept thinking once the kiddies were growed up we would resume our life. Jokes on us. We're so fucking tired at the end of the week, we don't even have the energy to eat out. That's why the whole SS thing gets me in a rage. The idea of having to work until 70 means I can just pack it in now.

GravatarGato mundo, eh?

That might work...yeah...OK, El Gato Negro, Gato mundo it is.

GravatarDiane: I want that bill passed, and by 61 votes to freak the Resident.

It will never pass by a veto-proof margin in the house. It's DOA. Unfortunately.
.

GravatarPBS NewsHour: Condi says "...stop making excuses for terrorists"

STOP making excuses for WAR...then you bitch...is what I would have replied.

GravatarBarndog-

when criticized by his opponent that he doesn't "support the president" i loved his comeback.

"i didn't vote for him, but i'm willing to die for him"

GravatarQL i hate to say it, but we'll be lucky if we can quit at 70!

GravatarThe stem cell bill has already passed the House. By a fairly decent margin.

It's in the Senate, imbecile. As in Senate Majority Leader Frist.

That should have been the tip.

GravatarMorning moonbats all.

It is lovely to see everyone, but it id doubtful I will be up for long.

Vacation makes it hard to get up and stay up.

GravatarDWD - you haven't told the wife THAT, have you??

(snicker, chuckle, yuck...)

GravatarWe may not win the 2nd District, but boy are we giving them a fight. I saw Schmidt interviewed on Tweety last night. I swear, she lifted w's speeches whole cloth and just repeated the mantra, we're fighting there so we don't have to fight them here.

We may pick up some of the misogynist vote, so for once gender discrimination may work in our favor. With no anti-gay issue on the ballot, there is a good chance that our base is more fired up than their's. I think one of the biggest mistakes they have made is they expected people to stop paying attention after the election. They were wrong. If anything, more people are paying attention, and they don't like what they see.

Gravatarhello, DWD.

sunrise here is pretty spectacular this morning.

GravatarMorning DWD.

BD, heehee, I love a little raunch in the morning.

Gravatarthe dems should run hackett for president!

GravatarQuick!! Someone get the emergency kit of popcycle sticks and duck tape!!! STAT!!

He's fading fast, Doctor... I don't know if he can hold on much longer -

GravatarThe stem cell bill has already passed the House. By a fairly decent margin.

Well, not a big enough margin, unfortunately. I think it was something like 50 votes shy of being veto-proof.

Still, if the Senate passes it by a big margin, it might make a difference as far as the House vote if in fact Bush vetos it.

GravatarJes amigos, Life, she weell be sweeeet on ¡GatoMundo!

The low grrravity, she weell open whole new rrrealms of play-eeng.

...and the float-eeng mice of ¡GatoMundo! they shall prrresent new challenges as well.

Perrrhaps I shall need a jetpack.

so.

GravatarHmmm.... I didn't realize there was a veto-proof margin in the House.

I knew there was in the Senate.

Gravatar58th!!! That means....oh, nothing.

GravatarWell, folks,

I think I'm going to try to go back to sleep. It's only 2:50 here on the left coast, way to early to be up, even for me.

Gravatari'm going to sit outside and brave the skeeters.

have a great day everyone!

GravatarFine. Be that way.

See if I give a moon and sixpence.

GravatarNight Diane

I am so encouraged by this Cinncinnati race. The only reason w appointed the guy thus necessitating the special election was that this is such a safe seat for the repukes. Instead, they are fighting for their lives and having to spend muchos pesos to try and just eke out a win. Hackett is a fighter. More like this please.

Gravatar PBS NewsHour: Condi says "...stop making excuses for terrorists"

Stop making excuses for "I believe the title was 'Bin Laden Determined To Attack Inside the United States.'"

GravatarIts discoverers are Michael Brown of Caltech, Chad Trujillo of the Gemini Observatory in Hawaii, and David Rabinowitz of Yale University.

From Gato's link. Look at the names of the discoverer's. This is America at its finest.

GravatarQL - I forgot to tell you... my wife is going to do a Ghost quilt. She saw a woman who did some on TV (the quilting show on DIY) and bought the book via Amazon.

Some of the patterns and techniques in the book are awesome.

Gravatar¿What shall we name the New planet in orrrbeet around el Sol?

¿eh?
so.

Sedna. The name is taken from the Inuit, their goddess of the sea. I'm surprised the evangelicals didn't burn down the foundation that named it. It's a planetoid, not a planet.

Security guards killed in attack on British convoy

Two security guards were killed when a British Embassy convoy was hit by a bomb blast in southern Iraq, the Foreign Office said today.

The attack with a home-made bomb happened on the outskirts of Basra, at 9.30am local time (0630 BST).

The two killed were security contractors employed by Control Risks Group, the British embassy in Baghdad said, but it did not have any details on their nationalities.

Reuters television footage showed a dark blue sport utility vehicle with smashed panelling and blood on a side window. Iraqi police and British forces were at the scene

GravatarCareful BD

Once the quilting bug hits, your home will be overrun with fabric, pins, patterns, magazines, and quilts. My daughter is coming for a visit after being in Africa for two years. I am going to have to spend most of today cleaning out the second bedroom. Big question, where the hell to put fifty (maybe 75) quilts?

GravatarOh, we've got a few already QL. The kid's quilt is almost done. Theres bolts of material all over now, in closets, stashed here & there.

Between that and the tye dye stuff, and the beading stuff, theres enough to keep either of us busy anytime we want. A goal is to utilize our collective talents and sell our wares at music festivals we attend during the summer months.

We hooked up with some friends who own a great tye dye biz this past weekend at Hiawatha, who might use us to do some spare shows for them. That might work out well for all of us.

Guess we'll see.

GravatarIt's a planetoid, not a planet.

Now let-me-tell-joo-sometheeng amigo... ¡GatoMundo! may be pretty farrr out there, and jet, according to thees arrrticle, she ees bigger than pluto.

so.

GravatarWe went to the farmer's market in Portland. I can see me renting a booth and selling quilts when we retire. I'm working on a queen sized one now for a friend who needs some cheering up. Problem is the day time job interfers. But with Mr. QL pretty much retired, I will have less around the house to do and maybe can pick up some of the slack. I am happiest at around 4:00 p.m., on a Sunday, when I have been able devote 20 hours to my quilting over the weekend. Alas, that rarely happens.

GravatarObiously joo refer to Ratónia, the must amajing planet en el jooniverse!

¡Viva los ratónes! ¡Muerte al gatos!

GravatarCompadres...

There ees just time to hunt up a snack beforrre the sunbeams come calling.

Hasta luego.
so.

GravatarThe wife's day job interferes with everything, dammit. Since I was forced to retire, I still have things I can do - abeit on my own timeframes.

There's still ways to provide some income, it just has to come when the gettin's good, if ya know what I mean.

GravatarBD, I work for health insurance. If it weren't for that I would gone tomorrow. Twenty-two months til I'm vested in the program.

Gravatar¡Viva los ratónes! ¡Muerte al gatos!

Amen.

But, umm, ¡El Gato Negro! you seem to be arguing against yourself.

GravatarEntire alleged bomb ring held after raids in London and Rome

All five suspected members of a suicide bomb gang which attempted to bring carnage to London were under arrest last night after three were seized in dramatic SAS and police raids in London and another was captured in Rome.

The hunt continues, however, for the men who armed, trained and inspired the young rucksack bombers, and senior Scotland Yard officers warned that yet more cells of would-be killers may remain at large.

"It would be a mistake to think we are at the end of this," a senior Scotland Yard source said. "We might just be at the beginning."

Gravatar"Which of the 15 Dem Sellouts Should Start Looking For Another Job/Party? "
http://www.davidsirota.com/

We now know who the 15 Democrats are that each undermined their party and America's middle class by casting the deciding vote for the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). The bill passed by one vote, meaning each of the 15 Democrats cast the deciding vote. When 27 Republicans vote against their own party leadership as they did on CAFTA, Democrats have only these 15 sellouts within their ranks - and groups like the DLC that pushed CAFTA - to blame for the fact that the Democratic Party has been relegated to permanent minority status.

The 15 Democratic sellouts were:

Melissa Bean (IL)
Jim Cooper (TN)
Henry Cuellar (TX)
Norm Dicks (WA)
Ruben Hinojosa (TX)
William Jefferson (LA)
Jim Matheson (UT)
Greg Meeks (NY)
Dennis Moore (KS)
Jim Moran (VA)
Solomon Ortiz (TX)
Ike Skelton (MO)
Vic Snyder (AR)
John Tanner (TN)
Ed Towns (NY)

Let's be clear - all of these people should never get a red cent from labor unions or the progressive community again, and that goes even for the ones who represent marginal districts. The idea that this was a "tough vote" for a Democrat who represents a swing district doesn't hold water - no one is getting voted out of office over voting against CAFTA, and voting for American workers. Remember, polls show that Americans are sick and tired of Congress passing these corporate-written "free" trade deals that sell out ordinary workers.

But, let's further break this down. Which of these 15 Members has CONSISTENTLY been selling out the Democratic Party and America's middle class? The way we find that out is by looking at other recent votes on key economic issues, such as the Bankruptcy Bill, and the bill to limit citizens' legal rights and protect corporations that abuse Americans.

Starting with bankruptcy, we get the list whittled down to 12: Bean, Cooper, Cuellar, Hinojosa, Jefferson, Matheson, Meeks, Moore, Moran, Ortiz, Skelton and Tanner.

Moving to the bill that limits citizens' legal rights and protects corporations that abuse ordinary Americans, the list gets whittled down to 9: Bean, Cooper, Cuellar, Hinojosa, Matheson, Meeks, Moore, Moran and Tanner.

These are the 9 Democrats who are the difference between House Democrats being in the majority and the minority - they are the people who undermine the vast majority of honest/courageous Democrats who fight for ordinary people in Congress everyday. They are the ones who make it consistenly impossible for Democrats to deliver a message that they are the party that stands up for ordinary working people in this country. The fact is, if Democrats are going to be in the minority for the forseeable future, it would be better if these folks were defeated, because they do more harm than good to a party that desperately needs unity to let America knows what it stands for.

Again, while I have described why it is ridiculous to give a pass to any of these 9 because they represent marginal districts, even if you sort out for that the number barely changes. Winning with 55% or more of the vote is considered crushing an opponent - and only Melissa Bean falls under that threshold. The 8 others win by 55% or better, meaning they don't even have the pathetic/dishonest "I'm a marginal Member so I have to sell out American workers" excuse: Cooper (69%) , Cuellar (59%), Hinojosa (58%), Matheson (55%), Meeks (100% - unopposed), Moore (55%), Moran (60%), and Tanner (74%).

In an earlier post today, I mentioned that Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY) ought to be frightened of the Working Families Party and the progressive community in New York City. But he's not the only one on this list that better be nervous about their job as an insulated career politician. Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA), for instance, has been dogged by controversy throughout his career, including actually personally profiting from his previous sellouts to the credit card industry. Maybe this will be the vote that draws him the strong primary challenger needed to defeat him in his solidly progressive district.

To sum up - each of these 15 Democrats ought to pay a price at the polls for their brazen sell out tonight on CAFTA. They undermined their party and America's workers. And the 9 Democrats of these 15 that have been consistently stabbing the Democratic Party in the back - well, they have shown an unfathomable willingness to disregard anything other than corporate campaign cash. They are the reason why Americans are so cynical about the political process, why Democrats can't win key states like Ohio, and, in general, why Democrats are currently in permanent minority status.

GravatarI can't believe anyone is buying this "battle" between Frist and Delay. There's no freakin' battle. It's all part of the Wingers' plan to help Frist run for President.

See, the Republican party has painted itself so far into the corner on issues to please its reactionary base, that by having this "public disagreement" with them, Frist can then be painted as "moderate" by the compliant, cock-sucking media whores. This will be enough to fool the 25% of folks who only get their news from 15 minutes of FOX TV and whatever bullshit Time Magazine is peddling this week, and you can add that to the votes from the new Republican party base of racists, religious fanatics, and "Screw our children" tax cutters.

Frist is not a moderate. Remember Terri Schiavo, anybody? Fuck Frist, and fuck anyone who swallows this crap hook line and sinker.

Adios.

GravatarI am ashamed to say Meeks is my congress critter. He does not need to sell out, because the incumbent in NY will win something like 98% of the time. It is precisely because of people like him that I did not vote on the Democratic ticket for the first time in my life. I vote the Working Families Party (they tend to run the same slate of candidates).

GravatarI think we should name the new celestial body "Reagan".
