Just wondering. Is the death in Iraq of the 19yr old woman from st louis getting any national attention. the military would not say at first what the cause of death was. now 2 weeks later they say suicide. her family says no way-there's something being covered up.

I can see how researching a book might involve *reading* racist diatribes, but I don't get how *writing them on a message board* constitutes research.

It's hard work doing research for a novel, hard word I tells ya!

Is this excuse only valid for stuff you write on the internets?
Or does stuff scratched into the walls of bathroom stalls count as research too?
I'm putting "researcher" on my resume right now.

Here in the godless north we exercise our allegiance to the dark side of liberalism by being fair, open-minded and generous to all our neighbors. That includes assholes from the South.

Oh, goody! I can hardly wait for the publication of "Bush Leaguer: Fascist Like Me", in which Greg Palast reveals that in 2000, he assumed the identity of the fictitious "George W. Bush" in order to research the question of whether the Amerikan sheeple would allow a despotic kleptocrat to hijack the reins of government and transform the already knotted and strained cords into a bouquet of nooses and cat-o'-nine-tails.
There's always room on my bookshelf for non-fiction, and I for one welcome our ersatz Overlord.

Sorry Tena. I understand your frustration; hell, some of the nicest people I've ever met are from the South. There are others though, who drive the Southern political agenda who refer to us as the fucking arrogant northeast liberal elite.
This gets tiresome. I'm sorry it is regional. I'm sorry they fly those confederate flags everywhere down south. I'm sorry the south has been a bastion of hatred and intolerance since... I'm sorry the Klan still exists. I'm sorry there are too many people who want to turn the clock back. I'm sorry for codewords and Philadelphia Miss. And I'm especially sorry that you are right when you suggest prejudice is alive and well in the north too. But the north doesn't vote in as many dickhead racists.

I would like to recommend the movie "Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored" -- some outstanding acting -- there is a scene where a young man who has moved north comes back home to try to convince his girlfriend to move north with him -- when he first shows up his family are glad to have him back (thinking that he is going to stay) & someone asks him why he left & he says, "I don't remember." Following some nasty experiences with the racism of the period someone (his girlfirend?) asks if he now remembers why he left & he replies, "Oh, Yes!"

Again with the Bobo's World.
These posts have no point. If it's news, say so and add your insight. If it's just another opportunity to snark that North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Wyoming and other states are less evolved, let it go.
Me: Resident of Austin, Texas... formerly of Phoenix, Denver, SE Colorado, Tennessee, Southern Illionis, Chicago, San Francisco, New York City and Laredo, Texas and Mexico City. There are enlightened people and racist people in all of these places.

Hey, Joe. B. It's because Bobo, as we like to call him, consistently praised the virtuous "Red" states as bastions of American Family Values, as opposed to the "Blue" states, where the Liberal Libertine Lifestyle forces otherwise celibate Catholic priests to RAPE LITTLE BOYS, among other atrocities.
And as we all know, such unsemly things NEVER OCCUR in Bobo's World.

I see this article as positive -- the weight of opinion amongst Charlotte's general population seems to be enlightened enough that this turdbrain had to give up his campaign.
That's something that wouldn'ta happened awhile back. The reality-based people of Charlotte are to be commended for bringing about this attitude change.

If this Doug Hanks was running as a Republican, doesn't that mean Republicans nominated him, or, if there is no nomination process for that post, at least supported him?
If Republicans supported Hanks, did they know about his racist background and views?
If they knew, why did they support him?
If they did not know, why not? Will they support anyone who calls himself or herself a Republican, without any sort of check on the person's past or stated beliefs?
