Next story? Did you hear the one from Watertiger about how two teenagers meaning to get Santorum to sign a book by a gay writer got hustled out by a state trooper who threatened to throw them in jail?

Their attempt to smear the Clinton admin with their "Able Danger" scam would be desperately funny if it were not so, well, desperate.

I never understood how this story was a "win" for the right. The more that comes out, the worse it looks for the Bush admin.
If the info was passed on, why wasn't it acted on?
If the commission willfully ignored it in the report, no one comes off looking good.
I guess the wingnuts thought they could spin this into a win via the fiction that Gorelick erected a wall. It's a veritable Rube Goldberg contraption of spun lies/fictions.
BTW, I think the Sheehan incident changed the tone of discourse. It seems much more common to publicly discuss Iraq as a disaster.

Personally, I still am betting Able Danger ID'ed Atta well before 9/11 and that the defense department squashed further investigation into him. Journalist Dan Hopsicker did his own investigation into Atta in Florida and found a serious conflict with the official story of when Atta came into the US. Moreover, Atta reportedly trained at a US military bases. But this story was squashed after 9/11, just like most leads showing US government complicity in 9/11 have been ignored and/or censored.

What was the whole point of this story?
Who were they trying to smear?
The right doesn't support someone or something unless they sense a smear being perpetrated by democrats, so what were they afraid was going to happen?
I for one missed the entire point of this able danger story other than the fact they identified Atta before 9/11, but then stories of how some members of the 9/11 hijackers were discovered prior to 9/11 but were not followed up on cause the FBI/CIA were told to back off, were numerous and plenty.
IMO they were trying to drown out the Cindy Sheehan story with another 911 diversion.

Um ... no I don't find it silly.
Someone found a loose thread and pointed it out.
That loose thread is being pulled on, fidgeted with, and tugged on.
Call me tin-foil hatted, but I think Able Danger
is a subject that Rumsfeld and Cheney don't want
investigated.
Just asking but - what would our country look

Dan Rather was accused of using documents which Richard Thornburgh found could not be proven as either real or forgeries. We were told it was all an effort to boost ratings and smear the president. We heard about it for months.
Now Weldon has hyping a story that CAN BE disproven in order to boost his book sales point blame at Clinton. I wonder how much coverage this correction will get.

I'm sure CNN will report that Shaffer's changed his story. After all, they've given the initial version plenty of air time. They'll do the right thing...I'm sure...any minute now...no doubt...sure they will...
Able Danger is a ruse item. Unimpeachable sources have confirmed this.
They want to hold a 'hearing' over something that is not an item for the chance to loophole the law and provide immunity to people directly linked to Plame's outing.
Shoot this down every time it comes up.

What we do know, what has never been disputed, is that the Bush junta received, on August 6, 2001, a document with a title that would have startled most people:
Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside United States
The document specifically mentioned bin Laden's plans to hijack domestic flights in the US.
So, with this giant flashing neon sign of a warning in their hands, George W. "Caligula" Bush, Condi "KindaSleazy" Rice, Donald "Friend of Dictators Everywhere" Rumsfeld, Dick "Dick" Cheney, and all their friends...
I'm with you, Terry C. Why is it that we give Bush a pass on 9/11? The more I see, the more I am beginning to believe the Bushies were behind it. Training exercises that day at the same time? Now we're finding out that Tony Blair's government was 'conducting training exercises' in the same areas as the subway explosions. Yeah, right.

is that memo, seraphiel, similar to the this story detailing clinton administration meeting directly with the taliban?
Interesting story.
It actually goes in depth into some of the ways the Clinton administration tried to get bin Laden into custody. It wasn't enough, obviously, but they were trying something.
This is in contrast to the current occupiers of the White House, who, despite some fairly specific and urgent warnings, did nothing.
That is why 9/11 happened on George W. Bush's watch, instead of Bill Clinton's.

"They had some agenda for reviving this, and they figured they could do so by screaming ATTA! ATTA! despite the fact that they'd never bothered to tell anyone they'd identified him before. Now, it looks like they didn't. Oh well. Next story?" - Atrios.
Next story? What happened to the "Why didnt Bush get Osama" meme you were promoting for months?
Oh yes, that is right. Because the last 2 presidents both dropping the ball make your cheap smear attempts more difficult.
Oh well. On to the next attack. Someone get out Atrios's book of logical fallacies, time to pick a new one.

See Christine Breitweiser (sp?) post at HuffingtonPost. When will the cat finally be out of the bag on 9/11 complicity? Don't know why they let Weldon and Shaffer come out with this except perhaps to divert blame to Clinton and preempt some of the more damaging revelations which could be imminent.
