Gravatarthese wingnuts are totally and utterly insane

GravatarThe shit's getting so surreal anymore, that I'm looking forward to albertchampion to tell me what's next...

GravatarOh, I needed that laugh!

Gravatarso when the actual Moon is a cresent it is being controlled by the 'islamofascists'?

GravatarOn the other hand, I think there are a lot of southerners who would find sharia law much to their liking.

GravatarI always liked the SC state flag.

GravatarCan we no longer eat crescent rolls at dinner? And are croissants doubly bad?

Gravatarso Bin Laden now controls the moon!

Gravatar so when the actual Moon is a cresent it is being controlled by the 'islamofascists'?

Well, they *are* lunatics, after all.

GravatarAnd are croissants doubly bad?
NTodd

They're Dolby bad.

GravatarAnd now we understand why "moonbat" is such a devastating epithet.

Gravatar" Can we no longer eat crescent rolls at dinner? "

They're called Freedom Rolls now, k?

Why do semi-circles hate America? :~(

GravatarIt's all adding up.

bin Laden controls Moon, who owns Washington Times and controls G.H.W. Bush.

GravatarOh fer crying out loud....what the
fuck is wrong with these people?

I'm sorry that's not particularly

Ya drink MD 20/20 for lunch, that's what happens!

GravatarCheney on CNN just now "with every storm we'll learn more". Hurricans hitting parts of the US coast at this time of year is not a new phenomenon.

Perhaps he meant "with each storm we'll learn just how inet and unprepared this Adminsitration really is".

GravatarJust to be sure, I only bought the mini ones @ Sam's Club. They're kinda football-shaped... like the world.

This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere.

GravatarI think by now most of us have seen the pictures of the school buses under water in a parking lot somewhere in NO.

Has anyone heard an explaination for that?

I swear to god I'm not trolling here - I keep hearing "the buses, the buses!" I don't know that loading 2,000 people on those wouldnt've made a hell of a lot of difference, but it'd be nice to know if there was a good reason for that.

GravatarThey will do absolutely anything to keep the subject away from w and his many fuck ups.

I can't stand Dick.

GravatarScrew the Democratic party and their Chairman. They are all corporate whores just like Bush. The party should be blocking everything that Bush does and calling for impeachment for the twin disasters of Iraq and New Orleans.

GravatarHave to go. But want to say, I enjoyed meeting Steve Simmel & Athena (saw you're both here) at Eschacon. NOTED: Athena is quite a babe & I say this in a nonsexist (implicitly sexist) sort of way.

GravatarAnd are croissants doubly bad?

The chocolate ones are.

GravatarEli: This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere.

There may have been some sidelong pop culture reference in my comment... but I can never be sure, these days. Low blood sugar, an' all...

GravatarWhat -- no mention of the Islamic Republic of Pillsbury? For decades, they've been putting out (gasp) rolls shaped like crescents!

GravatarCheney on CNN just now "with every storm we'll learn more".

With every election we'll learn less.

Gravatarwhy do I feel the sudden urge to turn around and moon these people?

Gravatarthese wingnuts would be the same who would of believe there was a commie under every bed.

What a great damn weekend!

GravatarSal P- no gas, no drivers, no keys, no organization. Pick one.

GravatarAnd Steve: I arose at 4:00 a.m. and started sewing at 5:00 a.m. I worked pretty steadily till around 10:00 or eleven. Even missed a thread or two .

This evening we will take my daughter out for some great northern Italian cuisine with a fine peasanty red wine. That's why I'm here instead of enjoying the great outdoors, which are highly overrated to my citified mind.

GravatarWe should respond to the bus claim by showing any number -- thousands or millions -- of military vehicles parked in nearby states during the catastrophe.

Or parked in Iraq.

I don't have an opinion about the mayor's performance; he's not my mayor. But competently or otherwise, he at least WORKED AND TRIED to do something.

Same goes for the governor.

Guitar boy didn't do squat until Shepard Smith's "WTF."

GravatarThis new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere.

Incidently your Majesty , this is how we know the earth to be banana shaped

It's a reflex by now

Almond Croissants are wicked doncha know!

GravatarWhy is Bush's support so high? 38, 39%.

Iraq was not only based on a lie, but is a failure. Its a de facto Islamic State already.

Katrina shows they are not capable of dealing with the sort of massive WMD terror strike that Bush used to scare people into voting for him. Whats he got left that he has actually done? nothing!

GravatarI think it is the National Review (or one of the wingnut magazines) that has a picture of the busses on the cover.

The count is around 210 busses. So how many were working? How many had gas? Drivers? Where would they go? If in theory they would have loaded them up and headed for the hills, that's still only 10k people, or about 5% of the people that rode the hurricane out.

GravatarThe crescent is also used as a heraldic symbol in some Slavic countries. However, this usage is not affiliated on any kind with Islam. The roots of Slavic crescent can be traced up to the old Slavic pagan beliefs.

Gravatarsimels ...

Answering your Q from below ....

I was out early today and for an hour just now. It's very nice, yes, but I want some rain! I'm beginning to feel like that Sarah Miles character in "White Mischief" who goes to the door in the morning and says, "Oh Christ, not another fucking beautiful day."

GravatarIn this verse is threatened the vengeance of God on the wicked unbelieving Israelites, who were God's visible people, and who lived under the means of grace; but who, notwithstanding all God's wonderful works towards them, remained (as ver. 28.) void of counsel, having no understanding in them. Under all the cultivations of heaven, they brought forth bitter and poisonous fruit; as in the two verses next preceding the text. The expression I have chosen for my text, Their foot shall slide in due time, seems to imply the following doings, relating to the punishment and destruction to which these wicked Israelites were exposed.
1. That they were always exposed to destruction; as one that stands or walks in slippery places is always exposed to fall. This is implied in the manner of their destruction coming upon them, being represented by their foot sliding. The same is expressed, Psalm 73:18. "Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; thou castedst them down into destruction."
2. It implies, that they were always exposed to sudden unexpected destruction. As he that walks in slippery places is every moment liable to fall, he cannot foresee one moment whether he shall stand or fall the next; and when he does fall, he falls at once without warning: Which is also expressed in Psalm 73:18, 19. "Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; thou castedst them down into destruction: How are they brought into desolation as in a moment!"
3. Another thing implied is, that they are liable to fall of themselves, without being thrown down by the hand of another; as he that stands or walks on slippery ground needs nothing but his own weight to throw him down.
4. That the reason why they are not fallen already, and do not fall now, is only that God's appointed time is not come. For it is said, that when that due time, or appointed time comes, their foot shall slide. Then they shall be left to fall, as they are inclined by their own weight. God will not hold them up in these slippery places any longer, but will let them go; and then at that very instant, they shall fall into destruction; as he that stands on such slippery declining ground, on the edge of a pit, he cannot stand alone, when he is let go he immediately falls and is lost.

GravatarYou're supporting the giant crescent "memorial"

No actually we're memorial-shape-neutral, idiot.

We're just laughing at cluess morons like you who get worked up over trivial things.

Gravatarwignuts are so fucking stupid!

GravatarHey, can I have a neighbor to have a beer with who's down to earth and who went to Yale on a legacy admission and ducked out of wartime military service because his dad, who he hates, was tightly connected with powerful people who hated him, who then ran three companies into the ground and emerged vastly richer, who then married a woman who ran over her boyfriend with the tearful apologies of the local police, who then spat tobacco juice disdainfully in the back of the Harvard School of Business classrooms, then earned the respect of fellow party members by enthusiastically standing on the windpipe of anybody who hesitated to throw open the doors of power to him?

'Cause my neighbor ain't like that at all, and I'm thinkin' it's my fault.

Gravatar NTodd: 2) NOLA mayor might have fucked up, but it doesn't absolve Bush and the Feds in fucking up.

Hey, we agree on something.

Please note the 'might'. I'm still not convinced Nagin fucked up, even though he is a Bush donor and endorsed Blanco's GOP opponent.

Fact is, this clearly is a regional disaster and that's what the Feds are for. Where would the buses have gone, given the disaster area is the size of Great Britain?

after the official telethon's One Hour was over we switched over to the BET telethon. way better. they had some jeebus types doing hymns and such, then they had an act that made my jaw drop it was so cool.

Queen Latifah: "And now, one of our newest poets, 6 year old Autumn."

and autumn proceeds to do a great Brooklyn Rastafarian rap, with the chorus concluding with

3) Given how people weren't allowed to cross bridges because of certain sheriffs, would they have been able to get out?

Don't forget the huge traffic jam leading out of the city until they shut the bridges and causeways down on Sunday.

Also, I have read that FEMA wanted those busses left there for after-the-hurricane evacuations. I haven't seen any news reports verifying that, however.

GravatarGreen is the proper Muslim flag

Ooo the wingnuts better start hating grass now.

GravatarThe crescent used to be a symbol of the Byzantine Empire. After the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 it was taken as a symbol by the Ottoman Empire. The crescent is now often used to symbolize the Islamic faith. However, it should be noted that the crescent was not a symbol used for Islam by Muhammad or any other early Muslim rulers, as the Islam is, in fact, against appointing "Holy Symbols". Despite that fact many islamic nations and charities use the symbol on their flags or logos (e.g. Pakistan, The Red Crescent.) In this manner it could be argued that its modern usage is meant to signify identity and for devout muslims brotherhood.

GravatarLike Gary the Numbskull , I too am afraid of many shapes. Since I was cured of my fear of heights , I've recently become fearful instead of widths.
Nothing however can overcome my anxiety around triangles. You'll notice , no where did I use that letter that appears after "u" anywhere in this posting . Can't .

So take it easy on our Retarded Troll , he's scared of crescents ,( the more I look at them , the more I get the willies ) . Me , I've also come to be pretty afraid of Crosses too .

GravatarYes, I know this is OT:

Have any of you photog types been to http://www.bagnewsnotes.com/ ?

It deals with interpreting certain images psychologically and/or symbolically.

Interesting.

GravatarA crescent is the shape produced when from a circular disk the disk of a circle which is a little smaller and tangent on the inside to the larger circle, is cut. It might also be described it as the shape the lit side of a sphere takes on if, in respect to the viewer, the light source is behind and to one side of the sphere (as in a crescent moon). Depending on the nature of which way the 'horns' (the pointed edges at the top of the arc) face denote whether or not the usage is to be taken in an active or passive state. Thus, pointing left ']' denotes a waxing moon and thus an active moon, whilst 'C' would infer the opposite.

GravatarThe fact is that New Orleans has suffered due to the corruption of the Democrats and their lack of backbone. They refused to evacuate the city before the hurricane.

Incorrect. Nagin (a Dem in the Zell Miller mold) ordered the first evac of NOLA in history. First it was voluntary, back on the 26th, then it was mandatory, on the 28th. Get your facts straight, asshole.

GravatarThey celebrate St. Patrick's Day in New Orleans with a parade and they throw green beads, drink green beer, and wear green wigs. I guess Malkin will soon start screeching that they are Islamo-Irishists.

Took the other 74% this long to figure out that things are kinda fucked?

Gravatarunclear on the concept:

DENVER -
Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown sent a candid e-mail to family and friends this week as he was becoming the center of criticism of the handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

"I don't mind the negative press (well, actually, I do, but I try to ignore it) but it is really wearing out the family," Brown wrote. "No wonder people don't go into public service. This country is devouring itself, the 24-hour news cycle is numbing our ability to think for ourselves," the Rocky Mountain News reported Saturday.

Brown was relieved of his command of the onsite relief efforts Friday amid increasing criticism over the sluggishness of the agency's response and questions over his background.

"It's horrible," said Mary Ann Karns, an Oklahoma lawyer who once worked with Brown in the Edmond, Okla., city government and got the e-mail addressed. "He does not deserve this as a human being."

You're stupid if you think it was a choice. And you're stupid if you think that these people shouldn't have expected a competent Federal response to a regional disaster. And you're stupid if you believe the shit about not ordering an evac. And you're stupid.

GravatarHi everyone--

I just got back from helping some evacuees out with housing issues. Word is, these folks came from the infamous Convention Center.

About half of the 500 who arrived earlier in the week have left (to go with family, friends, etc), those who remain may not have much of a support system, but there are lots of local resources (for the time being anyway).

Some were telling us that people outside were just handing them cash, clothing, etc.--just individuals, not as part of an organized charity. Nextel gave everyone a cell phone with 1000 minutes on it to help arrange housing/jobs/contacting friends and family.

It was good to see this firsthand. Whereas FEMA let them down hard, local communities and Red Cross are picking up the slack and most of the people I talked to are feeling better about things.

GravatarJeffraham--sorry, was off grading!

You mean across the bridges that were blocked? And how far north do you think they needed to go, given this was a regional disaster? And what do you think of the other points?

This is a fascinating skill on the part of wingers. Give them a gazillion reasons why something's bad, and they attack one, thinking that if they somehow cast doubt on one item that the entire litany is therefore demolished. Parse away, asshole. You're as detached from reality as Bush, whose numbers have plummeted before your willfully blind eyes.

GravatarI feel it in my bones: Bush is going down the way Nixon did. Suspending the minimum wage in those devastated areas so that Halliburton can get slave labor and make huge profits will take the Republican party down. They are beginning to look like cornered rats. Can't wait.

GravatarI was reading an article from the LA Times about how Bush is falling back on New Deal and Great Society programs to funnel aid to the people victemized by the hurricane.

One quote by Tom Coburn, an Okie repug struck me odd...

"It's a great time for the president to stand up and … make priorities" by advocating cuts elsewhere in the federal budget to pay for relief efforts"

Would I be mistaken if I were to assume by this statement the repugs feel energized by the devastation of the hurricane to ravage any and all government programs they hate to pay for the Presidential give away? Once a program and/or agency is no longer funded, they dry up and go away like a leave on a tree in late autumn.

Makes me wonder just where will the funds for hurricane relief come from now. I suspect the EPA is definitely on that chopping block.

GravatarOphelia regains hurricane force off Carolinas coast

MIAMI (Reuters) - The Atlantic storm Ophelia regained hurricane force on Saturday as U.S. forecasters placed coastal North and South Carolina under a hurricane watch.

The watch issued by the National Hurricance Center in Miami cautioned that fierce winds and other hurricane conditions were possible within 36 hours in an area along the southeastern U.S. coast from the Savannah River in South Carolina to Cape Lookout in North Carolina.

Sustained winds had been gauged as high as 80 miles per hour (128 kph) within Ophelia, which was near latitude 31.6 north and longitude 76.5 west, or some 220 miles east-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, at 1100 EDT (1500 GMT), according to a hurricane center advisory.

"Ophelia has slowed down and is now moving toward the northeast near 3 mph (5 kph)," forecasters said. "Little motion is expected today with a gradual turn to the west-northwest on Sunday."

Shots have been fired at police and a civilian injured by a blast bomb thrown during loyalist rioting surrounding a controversial parade in Belfast.

The security forces came under sustained attack by several hundred rioters on West Circular Road.

There were reports of automatic gunfire being heard in several parts of the city.

Cars were hijacked and set on fire on Ardoyne Road and North Queen Street.

GravatarRe the buses question, Maher had Walter Maestri , the Jefferson Parish emergency manager (may not be his exact title) on last night and asked about the buses.

Maher asked him about buses specifically.

Maestri said something I hadn't heard

(loosly transcribed from my Tivo)

"The buses were used and then brought back to get another load of folks."

"The problem was a number of folks didn't have the resources to leave and so at the last hours we were trying to get as many out as we could using the public transit system.

[Maher is pretty gentle with him, backs down a little.

Asks him knowing what he know about the city demographics, why not a better plan to coordinate evacuation of people without cars.

Maestr: "Buses were used to get as meny people out as we possibly could."

Maestri says people thought they could ride the storm out. 3 generations that hadn't seen a bad storm, saw emergency planners as "prophets of doom and gloom."

I want to believe Maestri but I haven't read anything about anyone getting taken anywhere in buses before the storm. Where were the people that were taken in these buses? Where did they take them? Who drove these buses?

Gravatarplantsman the Shia have images of their martyr Ali ibn Abu Talib.

Shia Muslims

Shi'a is short for Shi'áte Ali (Arabic: شیعة علي, a follower of Ali ibn Abu Talib who was the Islamic prophet Muhammad's cousin, his son-in-law, and the father of Muhammad's only descendants. He was the male head of the Ahlul Bayt, Muhammad's household, after Muhammad died. Shi'a Muslims believe that Ali should have followed Muhammad as the direct successor and leader of the Muslims. Sunni Muslims believe that Abu Bakr, the first caliph to hold power after Muhammad, held his office legitimately. This difference of opinion regarding an event in 632 CE may seem like a minor matter to some, but this schism shaped two Muslim traditions which differ sharply in many of their beliefs and practices.

GravatarThe Byzantine Empire was rocked by arguments between those who worshipped Icons and those who didn't

The 8th century was dominated by the controversy over iconoclasm. Icons were banned by Emperor Leo III, leading to revolts by iconophiles within the empire. Thanks to the efforts of Empress Irene, the Second Council of Nicaea met in 787 and affirmed that icons could be venerated but not worshipped. Irene also attempted a marriage alliance with Charlemagne, which would have united the two empires, but these plans came to nothing. The iconoclast controversy returned in the early 9th century, but was resolved once more in 843. These controversies did not help the disintegrating relations with the Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Roman Empire, which were both beginning to gain more power of their own.

GravatarHurricane Ophelia could hit Atlantic coast

Tropical Storm Ophelia strengthened into a hurricane again today as forecasters said that a landfall somewhere along the south-east Atlantic coast appeared more likely.

Forecasters have urged residents from the Georgia-Florida border to the Carolinas to a keep close watch on Ophelia's path. A hurricane watch was issued from north of the Savannah River in South Carolina to Cape Lookout in North Carolina, meaning hurricane-force winds of at least 74 mph (119 kph) were possible by tomorrow evening.

Louisiana and Mississippi, which are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, are not in the storm's path.

A hurricane hunter flying through Ophelia measured top sustained winds of 80 mph (129 kph). It could strengthen a bit before an expected Monday landfall, said Eric Blake, a meteorologist at the National Hurricane Center.

I think it would only be a prior restraint case if the press had the numbers and were being enjoined from publishing it.

The government having the data but not releasing it wouldn't really be a prior restraint issue, probably a FOIA statutory issue.

GravatarHold that troll shit cleanup, FEMA's on the way.

Hello?

Gravatarabyss--called Verizon. Monsieur and I are donating 500 anytime minutes from our plan to a family for the next 12 months + a phone. (We have 1000 anytime, and we will cover the costs).

Gravatar"I don't think the people on the right undertstand that these people had nowhere to go. The Superdome and Konvention Senter were at kapacity and no other state had agreed to take the evakuees."

That's the "let them eat cake" syndrome. Completely understandable to wingnuts.

GravatarThe last resort of a desperate Bush worshipper: its the corproate media's fault. Of course.

GravatarThe media decided to ignore all the images of 9/11, but they want to show us the dead in New Orleans because they think it will hurt Bush

GravatarI resent that

GravatarFrom NTODD..."They acted according to their own plans, dipshit, and those plans assumed that the Federal response would be something more than Bush strumming a guitar..."

Bush has been harping on an "ownership society" of late. It makes me wonder if the slack-jawed response from FEMA is part of that "ownership society"...everyone must make plans in the event of an emergency and not expect the government to be there at a moments notice. Kinda like "No Child Left Behind"...a mandated but non-funded federal action required of all school districts.

There may be more to this lack of federal response that bears some serious questioning.

GravatarHey, Playbill just emailed me to say I could get Spamalot tickets for $29!

3 days and counting...

GravatarNim,

I wouldn't be to suprised if wingers started latching on to that belief.

GravatarSoon THE BUSES!!! THE BUSES!!! will be used as often as WE PAINTED THE SCHOOLS!!! WE PAINTED THE SCHOOLS!!! as an indicator that the cons have got nothing.

I'm already hearing that from local wingnuts.

I deflect it by noting that EVEN if Nagin was incompetent, it doesn't excuse the feds from failing to bring in supplies for those people in the superdome.

Everyone in the fucking world knew they were there on Sunday. There's no excuse for letting them run out of supplies.

Gravatar" The media decided to ignore all the images of 9/11"

What's this 9/11 of which you speak? I don't remember hearing about it, or seeing it happen live on television.

Gravatarbecause you are a fucking stupid fuck

you sure you're not a NYer?

GravatarThers,

I'm going back to the "c".

GravatarThe media decided to ignore all the images of 9/11, but they want to show us the dead in New Orleans because they think it will hurt Bush

What rock were you living under that you didn't see a billion and two photographs from 9/11? both still and video?

You are still too stupid to live.

GravatarHey, I think I finally got a handle figured out

GravatarGOPert has not figured out that Bush doesn't need any help in hurting himself.

Gravatar9/11 pictures: media decides whether or not to show them.

Katrina pictures: government says media cannot take them.

Internet Libertarians: wankers.

Gravatarhttp://www.wndu.com/news/082005/.../ news_44400.php

"Packing winds of 165 miles-per-hour, hurricanes Katrina is barreling toward the 'Big Easy'.
Now, New Orleans residents are under mandatory evacuation orders.

Traffic leaving the city is gridlocked for miles.

To speed evacuations, both sides of some roads are open only to outbound traffic.

All flights in and out of New Orleans are canceled."

"Thousands of people made their way to the New Orleans Superdome. Some came on buses with special lifts for the handicapped, while others came on foot.

They are refugees of Katrina who are stranded and are not able to evacuate the city.

"We don't have transportation, so this was our only choice, to come up here," said New Orleans resident Emily Richardson.

"In 49 years of living here I have never seen anything like this," said Collet Austin, another New Orleans resident who is stranded.

The Superdome is a considered shelter of last resort."

This is a NBC report dated August 28.

GravatarIs it rude to talk about one blog in another blog's comments? Feels adulterous, somehow:

Oh, well, one last time, re a picture of Bush after Katrina....

"This shot is incredibly robust in terms of symbolism. The photo -- from yesterday -- shows George Bush in full "damage control" mode entering a press briefing to reframe the dismal results of the Administration's Iraqi constitution effort.

Because the meeting took place in Bush's aircraft hanger in Crawford, it seems the photographer's vantage worked substantially to the President's disadvantage. If Bush's policies are shrinking in popularity, this image might well serve as visual documentation. (At the same time, if the PR team decides to hang curtains in a hanger, they shouldn't be surprised if their man ends up looking like a midget.)

I'll probably stop now.

Gravatarruppet is so fucking stupid, he is competing with cog for stupid troll of the year award

these trolls mold their behaviour on Bush, so no wonder they are socoipathic and thick as two short planks.

GravatarThe media decided to ignore all the images of 9/11, but they want to show us the dead in New Orleans because they think it will hurt Bush

Yeah, they ignored all images of 9/11. When exactly did you have your fucking pea brain fucking removed by a fucking quack, you fucking stupid fucking goatfucker?

GravatarI want Moad - Dib to come to EschaCon II: This Time it's Personal.

GravatarKatrina pictures: government says media cannot take them.

it wasn't just a ban on photos, it was a ban on the media observing the body recovery at all. No access whatsoever.

The gov has already decided not to fight the CNN suit, so the press will be allowed to observe the process.

GravatarWhat rock were you living under that you didn't see a billion and two photographs from 9/11? both still and video?

We were tqlking about 9/11 coverage yesterday, remembering how many times they showed the second plane hitting thr tower.

Again and again and again, until it was etched in one's mind.

Which is what they wanted, of course.

Gravatar Saving New Orleans' animals

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the fate of thousands of abandoned or missing animals was a low priority compared with human safety.

But as the search for the remaining human survivors nears an end, there is growing attention on one of the largest animal rescue efforts the US has seen.

Yet the fate of their pets is a hugely emotional issue for many people who survived Katrina and its aftermath.

With security restored in New Orleans and the waters slowly receding, thousands of volunteers from all over the US are in Louisiana to help reunite people and their animals.

GravatarI deflect it by noting that EVEN if Nagin was incompetent, it doesn't excuse the feds from failing to bring in supplies for those people in the superdome.

Why didn't the Mayor have food in the Superdome from the beginning?

If you have a cadaver in need of disposal , please wait on the line . Current wait time , due to staffing cuts , is 4.5 hours. Thanks for calling FEMA"

GravatarI need to go hook up my new digital cable box. I'm rather dull in the head so it could take the better part of two hours. See you soon.

Gravatarabyss--that's what we figured. At least this way they have a contact point.

GravatarI just won "White Mischief" on DVD from ebay.

simels and Terry C .. I'm tempted to tell Moonbootica to go rent "White Mischief" so she can get a load of those crazy Brit aristocrats hiding out during WWII, but I'm afraid she'd get in trouble just for watching it.

GravatarBush's massacre -ethnic cleansing. War crimes at home. IMPEACH.

The trolls' heads are empty.

GravatarKinda like "No Child Left Behind"...a mandated but non-funded federal action required of all school districts.

The way this is posted puts the line break between Child and Left. Left Behind. I always thought that was a strange name for a federal program, but now I get it.

Gravatar4Legs--and the returning tourists are talking.

GravatarWhy didn't the Mayor have food in the Superdome from the beginning?

They did. They just figured that if it was so bad that people were still there after 36 hours that FEMA would bring more help. They were wrong.

Gravatar This particular "Gary Ruppert" troll has to be a parody.

Nobody could be that stupid.

Was wondering that myself...

GravatarThey did. They just figured that if it was so bad that people were still there after 36 hours that FEMA would bring more help. They were wrong.

GravatarThe Government was in the right to restrict the media from New Orleans.

How so?

For one thing, nothing in the Constitution prohibits that action.

You're right, the Congress didn't pass a law to prevent it. But I don't see any prohibition of people going to a disaster area to provide coverage. And don't forget Amendment IX and X. I see nothing in the Big C that grants the executive branch or any other the power to tell us what we can and cannot photograph, see or read about.

Fuck you, you fucking fascist fucker of piles of dog shit.

He was prepared. A Federal State of Emregency ahd been declared. FEMA was taking the lead. They had supplies and expected more to be brought in, if needed, after the satorm passed. FEMA fucked up & no help came for days.

GravatarHow many journalists have been killed in Iraq?

About 35.

Luckily for journalists, the troops in NO don't actually have rocket launchers with them.

My point is that the pool guy flying that heliocopter can take up a still photographer who can get photos that would make it look like he or she was standing right next to the recovery guys.

What are they going to do? shoot the copter out of the sky?

GravatarHas anyone noticed that the word "Constitution" starts with... a crescent?

Why should we base our government on such an islamofascist document?

Gravatar"Lets not bicker and Argue about who killed who ...."

Been thinking the same since the whole "Blame Game" meme was unleashed.

GravatarBerlin wasn't underwater. So, how would you drop MREs into the Superdome?

And since 1948 the world's only superpower clearly hasn't come up with any amphibious technology that it has mired in the sands of Iraq, and can't put floatation devices on the food packets, and can't drop anything other than bombs with pinpoint accuracy at a big fucking stadium.

They did. They just figured that if it was so bad that people were still there after 36 hours that FEMA would bring more help. They were wrong.

So even when a Category Five was headed right for New Orleans, the Mayor was not prepared?

No, even when a Cat-5 was headed right for NOLA, the Mayor WAS prepared. That's the point, you fuckingfuckeroffuckingfucks.

Gravatarhttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories/ 2...ain799251.shtml

"They lined up by the thousands, clutching meager belongings and crying children. A few hours later, the power went out, turning the building into a hot and muggy mess. Then the part of the roof blew off."

"The Superdome opened its doors at noon Sunday, and New Orleans' most frail residents got priority. The stadium is by far the most solid of the Big Easy's 10 refuges for the estimated 100,000 city residents who don't have the means, or strength, to join a mandatory evacuation."

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/ 2...ain805856.shtml

"Superdome is surrounded by three feet of water. Inside, refugees from Hurricane Katrina are taking what they can get, even if it's just a breath of fresh air."

"National Guardsmen let some of the 10,000 people sheltering inside the arena take their bedding out onto the concourse, where it was cooler and the breeze was welcome. The soldiers made sure they didn't leave, though"

Three feet of water is no big deal for a amphibious vehicle and they could easily dropped food in waterproff coverings.

And why is every damn liquor store here out of Jim Beam?

Sorry. Now I'm mad...

Fuck you, Gary.

GravatarWhat are they going to do? shoot the copter out of the sky?

GravatarYeah, the Democrats are responsible for a lot of deaths in New Orleans due to their lack of action and their inability to follow their own hurricane plans

It's the wingnut spin - revise history in their talking points and repeat, repeat, repeat over and over again hoping it'll drown out the truth.

Don't think it's going to work this time, though. Too much truth which overcomes the lies.

GravatarRove cannot smear a hurricane.

so Bush is confused and trashing his carefully crafted image.

Rove must be furious.

Democracy Now had an interesting bit yesterday about how since the troops have arrived, the manipulation of the media is in full force (since, you know, they didn't have anyone to be embedded with). Rove and Co need the media to be beaten down in order to do any damage control.

GravatarMoonbootica; The Tr00!Z are not "for real". When they ask a question, it's not because they want an answer. When they make a statement, it's not because they want to inform us. Oh, fuckity fuck fuck. I did it, din I?

GravatarRuppert thought Paul Hackett was gonna lose in a "landslide."

Ruppert thought that the storm was not going to be a big deal to New Orleans.

And Ruppert once again demonstrates that he couldn't find his own ass with both hands and a flashlight -- not unlike Boosh and his crony-packed, impotent FEMA. Whether this Ruppert is a troll or a parody or whatever, it is pointless to argue with the idiot child.

Oh, right. I've been meaning to thank you for that.

Sorry I'm so late in doing so.

GravatarShit, I can't for the life of me figure out why the mayor didn't have 300,000 meals all set up and ready to go when the evacuees got to the Superdome. Could it be because the federal officials in charge of the disaster relief efforts were incompetent cretins selected for their work on Genocide Warbaby Bush's re-stealing-the-election campaign? Or is it maybe because Bush himself refused any help unless the governor turned the state over to the feds? Or is it maybe because Bush and his cocksuckers hate the poor and downtrodden, justifiably if they're black and southern? Is there anything bushco can do to fuck up even more? I think not; they seem to have it all covered.

Let's make a list, per Bill Maher:

Bushco fuckups:

1. Cheney 2. Rumsfeld 3. Rice 4. FEMA
5. Cabinet 6. 8/6/01 PDB, followed by 6a. vacation and 6b 9/11. Several billion dollars worth of destruction, 3000 lives lost. 7. Osama 8. Afghanistan 9. Iraq 10. failed attempt to gut Social Security. Not sure if the fuckup is the attempt or the failure, your mileage may vary. 11. Failure to hold gas prices, in spite of "jawboning" option brought up by Chimpster himself 12. Loss of thousands of lives because of systemic failure of Republican federal government to react as mandated by LAW to Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding of New Orleans 13. Shameful and blatant attempts to 13a...continue fucking up and 13b...blame it all on the tooth fairy or anyone in office with a D after their names.

This list makes me tired. Add to it if you like. It seems pretty long, but I have a feeling I'm missing several dozen items.

I've thought about this a lot. Bush really fucked up because this was New Orleans. People love the city and it was an American icon. If this had been, oh, Tyler, Texas, the rest of the country would have yawned, turned over and gone back to sleep.

But it wasn't - it was one of America's great cities.

He really screwed the pooch (and I have no idea what that expression means.)

It was a lot worse thatn I could have imagined. The entire sherriff's department of Gretna should be strung up on a row of gibbets. And any and all federal officials or members of the National Guard who were aware of what they were doing should be courtmartialed and dishonorably discharged.

Words cannot describe my ourtrage at the inhumanity of those people.

I'm sure Santorum could help you out with that...

GravatarJeffraham--and you have a reply, the gist of which is, make it easy, even if you can't make it pretty.

Gravatarsometimes I think Bush should do what Empedocles did.

The legend goes that he died by throwing himself into an active volcano (Mount Etna in Sicily), so that people would believe his body had vanished and he had turned into an immortal god; however, the vulcano threw back one of his bronze sandals, revealing the deceit. (There is, however, some evidence that he actually died in Greece.)

GravatarSo, why does the media want to show dead bodies in New Orleans

What the media chooses to present is for the media to defend.

That the government would choose to curtail that choice is not defensible.

And anybody who agrees with this blatant show of prior restraint can as well take down their waving flag and use it as toilet paper.

Breed's Hill, Yorktown, Antietam, Gettysburg, Kettle Hill, Chateau Thierry,Tarawa, Hurtgen Forrest,Chosin,Khe Sahn are all background noise if the government always wins.

That's exactly the point. "Drive north" is the mantra, but what do you do when you have no food or water there? The Superdome was re-fit in the wake of Ivan to deal with just such a problem!

GravatarIf the buses had keys, drivers, gas full of people then where would they go?

That's exactly the point. "Drive north" is the mantra, but what do you do when you have no food or water there? The Superdome was re-fit in the wake of Ivan to deal with just such a problem!

Check this out. (Sept 6 entry)

Gravatarblerb - I think there will be a reckoning, too. I've thought so since it became clear that the government had abandoned those people to die.

This isn't going away, trolls. This has just begun.

Your man is going down, hard.

GravatarJeez, steve - I thought NTodd or Eli one said the two most hit pictures were both of watertiger.

GravatarThey're not going to be able to stop stories like this from coming out:

And it's going to fucking sink them.

GravatarA friend weathered the storm in Abita Springs which is 44 miles north of New Orleans. They had 120 mile an hour winds, trees falling down, debries like sheet metal flying through the air, and the only reason that the house didn't get destroyed is that the trees falling down made a barrier. Imagine sitting on a school bus in 120 mile an hour winds with debries flying. Feel safe?

Gravatar So, why does the media want to show dead bodies in New Orleans

Are you still on this subject, Ruprecht?

Well, GUESS WHAT. A FEDERAL JUDGE AGREED WITH CNN AND GRANTED AN INJUNCTION AGAINST ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS WHO
WANTED TO BAR REPORTERS FROM THE RECOVERY OPERATION.

Got that?

The government then gave up on the idea. So the story is a dead letter.

The truth of what happened in NO is coming out, you nazi brownshirt fuck.

Repent now, or you may just get tarred and feathered along with the rest of your foul kind.

GravatarJeez, steve - I thought NTodd or Eli one said the two most hit pictures were both

Gravatar Eli -- apologies if you already
posted this, but I'm dying of

The top two pics are *both* watertiger.

GravatarFrom what I have seen on TV the only one happy with FEMA in MISS was the bBush lap dog Republican Gov he couldn't say enough about Bush and FEMA but the general public was very unhappy

Gravatarsimels is just drooling about his EschaCon crush...

GravatarI'm actually not even here, so
just ignore me.

GravatarIt's been The Buses now for the last 10 days or so. It's been debunked thoroughly about 1800 times now.

Will someone tell me what this is about? I am going to see some wingnuts tonight and I need to be armed with all the best, most accurate debunkings.

Gravatarsimels is just drooling about his EschaCon crush...

that would be the stunning Jenny From the Blog, dear.

GravatarRight on Tena,

It took the destruction of an amazing city to wake people up to the culmination of 3 decades of conservative legislation and dissmantling of the commons.

Will it be enough? I sure as hell hope so, but...

I'll say this though- I've starting hearing my red-neck backwoods white-trasher family and friends curse Bush to no end! I get to act like the match in a powder keg- "Shit, you think that's bad! Well! Bushco has also done- A, B, and C" To which their heads look like glowing red orbs.

.

GravatarThe wingnuts must be writing their own Katrina Turing programs.

Fortunately, our new Voight-Kampff technique is unstoppable.

Ask Gary about the Turtle in the Desert.

GravatarEli - Where are the pictures of people like ChiDyke, Vicki, etc? All the pictures I have seen are mostly of the same dozen or so people. I thought about a hundred showed up?

GravatarSteve has a crush from the weekend? How cool is that.

C'mon, you guys.Do I have to take off my pants to get someone to talk to me?

GravatarI've thought so since it became clear that the government had abandoned those people to die.

Not only abandoned them to die. Our fucking government wouldn't even allow them to help themselves

There has not been a disgrace like this since Greenville Mississippi in 1927, when all the blacks were herded onto the levy to die.

This is not going to go away -- never. TAL is back on, gotta go....

Gravatarsimels is just drooling about his EschaCon crush...

that would be the stunning Jenny From the Blog, dear.

Yes, I know! Just saying that he was prolly thinking that watertiger was the #1 hit, and JftB was #2. Or something.

Don't worry, steve. Your taste in women is impeccable, despite the tendency to wear screw tops and drink elitist Pine-Sol...

GravatarEli - Where are the pictures of people like ChiDyke, Vicki, etc? All the pictures I have seen are mostly of the same dozen or so people. I thought about a hundred showed up?

CD couldn't make it. I think I've seen some Vick pics, but I only took pictures at the Sunday picnic, and I think she was gone by then.

Gravatarthat would be the stunning Jenny From the Blog, dear.

Who was, alas, not at the picnic.

GravatarFor what its worth, here's a couple of things I read today may help in the discussions that I haven't heard mentioned.

First, the Lousiana gov was able to get local and state school buses for evacuating people out of New Orleans. However, almost all the drivers were women and were busy taking care of getting their own families to safety. And where would they take them was an unanswered question.

Second, the mayor of New Orleans used the Superdome and Convention center as refuges of last resort. His pre-declaration of a national emergency before the storm hit was intended to alert the federal government to swept in quickley with the necessary aid and police/military forces to keep order. The City of New Orleans did not have the financial resources to handle the number of people they knew could not evacuate the city by their own means.

Finally, for a city or state to be financially able to handle a local and/or state emergency of such magnitude would require a very big tax initiative. As the initial costs of the destruction reaches astronomical proportions, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize extra local and state taxes for such an emergency would drain its populace poor.

I seriously doubt there is a city/state that would be capable of tackling severe storm damage issues without assistance from the fedral government.

.

GravatarI think rupert is back in his cage or busy chomping down on a drowned wheelchair bound old woman in NOLA.

I think NTodd has the whole pantless
thing franchise.

GravatarSurprise, surprise. Lawyer fired for speaking about Rove.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A lawyer with the Texas secretary of state was fired after she spoke to a reporter about presidential adviser Karl Rove's eligibility to vote in the state.

Elizabeth Reyes, 30, said she was dismissed last week for violating the agency's media policy after she was quoted in a Sept. 3 story by The Washington Post about tax deductions on Rove's homes in Washington and Texas.

Scott Haywood, a spokesman for Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams, confirmed Reyes' firing but wouldn't discuss specifics. He had earlier told the Post that Reyes ``was not authorized to speak on behalf of the agency.''

Reyes told the Post on Friday a superior told her that her bosses were upset about the article. Williams has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Republicans, including President Bush, who relies heavily on Rove for political strategy.

While Reyes said she didn't know she was talking to a reporter, she said the press policy doesn't bar her from speaking with the media.

``The policy allows us to talk to members of the media,'' she told the Post. ``The policy says if it's a controversial issue or a special issue, it needs to be forwarded on to someone else. Just talking to the media doesn't violate it, as I read it. ... Karl Rove didn't come up. It wasn't something you could classify as controversial.''

Gravatar*sigh*

I'll be soaking in the tub if anyone wants me.

Gravatarsimels is just drooling about his EschaCon crush...

I only got a fleeting glimpse of Watertiger before Eschacon.

From the photo-essays that I've seen from the meetup, she is quite striking.

I already knew that she was a good soul.

GravatarAlright, John, good find. Looks like Chimpy's penchant for murder is finally getting some light on it. For all of their repeated talking points about Hagin and the governor of LA, not a one of them has come up with WHY elected democrats would wilfully let their constituents down (or drown, for that matter). I'm absolutely certain that under conditions of extreme danger and stress that anybody could make a mistake, or several, and even end up unknowingly killing people because of some failure or other. That seems to be different from refusing to go to work, which is the Bushco's case, piled on top of rank incompetence and lack of professionalism or any sense of responsibility.

GravatarC'mon, you guys.Do I have to take off my pants to get someone to talk to me?

GravatarHi, Mena!

GravatarC'mon, you guys.Do I have to take off my pants to get someone to talk to me?

GravatarAnd speaking of pix. Thank you all for taking and posting them. My only question is why is Mr. QL all over the fucking place and hardly any at all of me.

Gravatarres, yellow school busses.

Gravatar
Hi Mena (waves hand).

Don't spoil it for the rest of us!

GravatarAsk Gary about the Turtle in the Desert.

Won't work: he had false memories implanted.

Where are the pictures of people like ChiDyke, Vicki, etc? All the pictures I have seen are mostly of the same dozen or so people. I thought about a hundred showed up?

CD didn't show up. There are pics from other people at the following sites:

* EschaCon2005 album (pics courtesy of NTodd, FeralLiberal, and Uncle Smokes).

* Spork's new place.

* Kenosha Kids' site.

GravatarHi back, QL and WT!

Steve - for what it's worth, I think you two'd make a cute couple.

GravatarAnd fuck Haloscan: Old White Lady also has pics.

GravatarIt took the destruction of an amazing city to wake people up to the culmination of 3 decades of conservative legislation and dissmantling of the commons.

And if not, how many more cities will it take?

GravatarThe thing I find the most brain-dead stupid about the repeated "we see all those buses" under the water rant is the fact that not every bus in New Orleans was under the command of the local officials. jesus fucking christ, let's think about it.

There are buses and there are buses.

Aerial shots of buses under the water tell us absolutely nothing.

It's a big city, a tourist city. There are going to be thousands of buses in that city- school buses, city buses, tour buses, airport buses, rental car buses, etc. How de we know what buses that we're seeing underwater and whether or not those buses were part of the the available pool to be used for evacuees? Did the local emergency management plan say that officials could commandeer ANY and all buses?

GravatarDo I have to take off my pants to get someone to talk to me?

I've got some pants you can borrow...

Gravatar...was a lot worse thatn I could have imagined. The entire sherriff's department of Gretna should be strung up on a row of gibbets

Aressted, charged and tried. If a jury lets 'em off, that's the way the cookie crumbles. Kevin Drum thinks this is the end of Humanity. I don't think it's quite that bad, but if these guys aren't brought up on charges, you can put a fork in America, 'cause we'll be done. This is a line we shouldn't cross. Yeah, I know it used to be that way, but that's the Past. The future lies the other way.
Or...Remember that map of a Blue North American Republic with a red Jesusland in the middle of it? Could still go that way. When that map came out some of the Jezonazis actually liked it.

GravatarWhy didn't Nagin order hovercrafts to evacuate all the people in NOLA?

GravatarNYT:

The official autopsies of the flawed response to the catastrophic storm have already begun in Washington, and may offer lessons for dealing with a terrorist attack or even another hurricane this season. But an initial examination of Katrina's aftermath demonstrates the extent to which the federal government failed to fulfill the pledge it made after the Sept. 11 attacks to face domestic threats as a unified, seamless force.

GravatarRIL - The picture has 210 school busses. Do the math, in a perfect world ten thousand people could have left (assuming they have a place to go, drivers, gas, the busses work, etc).

That still would leave about 190k people to weather the storm.

GravatarCheney's in Austin- who's going to go holler at him, as he "manages perceptions of the federal response?"

GravatarSo, why does the media want to show dead bodies in New Orleans

GravatarWe are all Bush Cultists on this bus.
Squeeze the wheeze.

Gravatarronjazz,

One thing in favor of the state officials is that they were quick to see they were overwhelmed by the size of the storm and its destruction. Realizing they were in over their heads with limited resources, they actively sought federal assistance.

GravatarThat NYT article has some stuff about busses ...

GravatarHave you guys seen this? a little bit of good news from NOLA.

GravatarHey, just checking to make sure Thers whored kid-blogging, at homepage (his, this time, not mine). Man, I gotta get some energy from someplace.....

GravatarWhat will it take to make you moonbats understand that those of us moderates like myself who actually believe in great American values like violation of civil rights, the commission of genocide on the poor, and good ol' fashion lynching are the vast majority in the greatest nation on God's Green Earth?

GravatarYeah, the Democrats are responsible for a lot of deaths in New Orleans due to their lack of action and their inability to follow their own hurricane plans
Gary Ruppert

You know, Ruppert, I've seen you spout shit like this for months now. You're worse than a fucking college freshman. You can claim anything, but you can prove nothing. And you don't even realize that the country, belated as it is, is finally realizing how divorced from reality you wingnuts actually are.

Why didn't Nagin order George
Clinton to send the awesome power
of a fully operational mothership
to evacuate NO?

Answer that one, Ruppert!

GravatarEVERYONE GO LOOK AT MY LINK.

It's a happy kitty story.

GravatarI was wondering today about our perky poster Minnie. Someone said they'd seen her at some other blogs recently; has she posted since Katrina?

Gravatar"So, why does the media want to show dead bodies in New Orleans"

Perhaps for the same reason the Allies took pictures of the NAZI death camps.

regards

.

GravatarThat's exactly the point. "Drive north" is the mantra

And North was Lake Ponchartrain...
Also, wasn't the military initially convinced there was no way into NOLA? And if there's no way in, how in the SWEET ASSFUCK JESUS do you get out?

GravatarIf anyone listened to "This American Life" on NPR this morning, the opening statements indicated that FEMA was responsible for the lack of aid. I think the audio is probably available on their website.

Gravatar MI5 head warns on civil liberties

Civil liberties may have to be "eroded" to protect Britons from terrorism, the head of security service MI5 has said.

In a speech made in the Netherlands on 1 September and put online by MI5, Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller said the world had changed and a debate was needed.

She said the July London bombings were a "shock", which MI5 and police were "disappointed" they could not prevent.

But ex-MI5 agent David Shayler said any liberties lost would be hard to regain and could make "martyrs" of terrorists.

Mr Shayler told BBC News questions still needed to be asked about how the 7 July suicide bombings happened.

GravatarSince I appear to be invisible I think I'll go away again.

GravatarI would blow George Bush right now, on national television. And FINISH (if you know what I mean).

Now THAT's being a true American.

Gravataroblivious , in denial , dangerous

GravatarWhy didn't the Mayor have food in the Superdome from the beginning?
Gary Ruppert

He did, but they only had enough for 36 hours. Of course, FEMA was supposed to come before then, weren't they?

GravatarThis sound like hyperbole right now even to me, and I was vaguely thinking about this last night, but I wouldn't surprised if at the end, Bush will have been responsible for more deaths than Hitler, one way or the other.

Gravatar4legs! Don't you dare miss the soccer blogging!

GravatarI guess no one cares about Miss Kitty.

GravatarGeorge Bush could sodomize ME with a dildo, and I'd love him all the more.

Gravatart seems they found the missing Miss Kitty. Who has since been reunited with her 2 legger.

What a nice story.

GravatarI just alerted the FBI about some islamofacists pastries I saw at the store. They were crecent shaped and I think they have something to do with France.

GravatarI'll bite your kitty's head off and screw its neck.

GravatarEh, they're just fixated on buses until KKKarl sends them the next talking point, but he's having difficulty parsing "depraved indifference" and "2nd degree murder" and "manslaughter" and "negligent homicide" into phrases that the cult can use to defend their god-king from his own non-actions. He's tried the "they're too stupid to leave" mantra, but that couldn't stand up against the evidence for more than a few hours, and the "blame game" seems to be biting them on the ass pretty good, since even Blowdried Brian Williams ain't biting. So, buses it is, until Monday, when it will be "why didn't the mayor go to everyone's apartment, tenement and house thgroughout the city limits and take them out of NOLA in his state-owned Crown Vic?".

And you still talk to the trolls. Liberals are such softies. Next, I suppose you'll want them all to be able to go back home to live, ignoring the preznit's mother, who has been there in the Astrodome, and sees that they have it pretty good, indeed.

GravatarWhy didn't Nagin order hovercrafts to evacuate all the people in NOLA?

I don't know why he didn't just have all those people teleported out of the city.

Gravatarfour legs, I sees yaz. Enjoy your new camera and say a big howdy to Maxx fer me.

Okay! OT, but I think I need to report that lion kitty is so bushy now that he is now SFW.

Gravatarchris/tx, I thought most of the press about EschaCon was pretty fair, with the obvious exception of the wholly made up Protein Wisdom crap.

GravatarWhat a nice story.

Gravatarthe BBC Proms are rather good.

GravatarNYMary - I found it interesting that the first press I saw on Eschacon was the philly guy that mostly wrote about "first!" and "fuck Bush!".

The Hotline wrote something quite thoughtful, and actually, sounded almost flattering.

GravatarHere's the link to the Miss Kitty reunion.

I played the video and Maxx just went crazy running around looking for Miss Kitty. LOL.

GravatarBTW new sheets...

Gravatardave,
I'm on Thers's laptop: the homepage here is metacomments. Go there, scroll down a bit to "The Right Jumps the Shark" and you can enjoy the PW crap, the resultant cross-blog exchanges between PW and metacomments, and a lovely picture of a scurvy-ridden mouth which, Thers assures us, is funnier than the PW post.

GravatarI know you all hate me, but you just don't understand what it's like to be me. Nobody listens. Nobody cares. I have feelings too you know. You think there's something wrong with me because I want George Bush to use me like a blow-up doll. Where's your so-called TOLERANCE? I wish the voices would stop.

GravatarOK, I found Protein "Wisdom" on my own.

When I got to the part where it complained that Andrew Sullivan was transforming in to a Kos diarist, I just fucking gave up...

Gravatar"The media decided to ignore all the images of 9/11, but they want to show us the dead in New Orleans because they think it will hurt Bush"

Ah. Must be some definition of all that I am unaware of.

GravatarThe fact that Nagin hasn't been bombarded by images of the buses shows that the media is biased against Bush and the GOP

It shows that the bus story is a load of bullshit. At maximum those school buses could have carried 13,000 people(this according to NBC news), while about 100,000 were stuck in city. Nagin did the only thing practical, which was to bus people to local shelters such as the Superdome. That plan was a success in that those people survived the storm. Those who subsequently died were killed by FEMA incompetence.

GravatarBased on the witty banter in the comments, PW is that most awful of unfunny things" unfunny things that *think* they're funny.

Kinda like Taco Bell commercials.

GravatarWell, one of the things about the Philly bloggers: they're mostly great. I really like Susie a lot, and the AllSpinZone folks, and several others. But blogging's a smallish town, and you can almost feel the visceral jealousy pouring out of some of them not just about Eschaton, but about EschaCon, which they could only see as weird and cultish because they really didn't understand much about what we were trying to do.

GravatarAir drops, moron. AIR DROPS. also by federal mandate, school buses don't have seatbelts (wouldn't wanna spend a few extra cents and protect the kids) and don't meet safety standards for commercial coaches. They're rattetraps on wheels and would have been blown about in a Cat 3 or higher.

GravatarWho knew that South Carolina flew the Afrika Corps flag?
-

GravatarWatertiger, actually I had suggested they use the Ground Effect Vehicles that the marines have. (Hovercraft, if you will)

The point is that there were a lot of things they COULD HAVE done besides nothing.

Coming at you from the state of Ohio. I would say Great State but . . . .

GravatarYes, they should have air-dropped busses on the Superdomw, then let people float out in empty MRE packets.

Firms with Bush ties snag Katrina deals

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Companies with ties to the Bush White House and the former head of FEMA are clinching some of the administration's first disaster relief and reconstruction contracts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh,
President George W. Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of the
Federal Emergency Management Agency, have already been tapped to start recovery work along the battered Gulf Coast.

One is Shaw Group Inc. and the other is Halliburton Co. subsidiary Kellogg Brown and Root. Vice President
Dick Cheney is a former head of Halliburton.

Bechtel National Inc., a unit of San Francisco-based Bechtel Corp., has also been selected by FEMA to provide short-term housing for people displaced by the hurricane. Bush named Bechtel's CEO to his Export Council and put the former CEO of Bechtel Energy in charge of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.

Experts say it has been common practice in both Republican and Democratic administrations for policy makers to take lobbying jobs once they leave office, and many of the same companies seeking contracts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina have already received billions of dollars for work in
Iraq.

Halliburton alone has earned more than $9 billion.
Pentagon audits released by Democrats in June showed $1.03 billion in "questioned" costs and $422 million in "unsupported" costs for Halliburton's work in Iraq.

But the web of Bush administration connections is attracting renewed attention from watchdog groups in the post-Katrina reconstruction rush. Congress has already appropriated more than $60 billion in emergency funding as a down payment on recovery efforts projected to cost well over $100 billion.

"The government has got to stop stacking senior positions with people who are repeatedly cashing in on the public trust in order to further private commercial interests," said Danielle Brian, executive director of the Project on Government Oversight.

TWO BUSH APPOINTEES AT HALLIBURTON

Allbaugh formally registered as a lobbyist for Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown and Root in February.

In lobbying disclosure forms filed with the Senate, Allbaugh said his goal was to "educate the congressional and executive branch on defense, disaster relief and homeland security issues affecting Kellogg Brown and Root."

Melissa Norcross, a Halliburton spokeswoman, said Allbaugh has not, since he was hired, "consulted on any specific contracts that the company is considering pursuing, nor has he been tasked by the company with any lobbying responsibilities."

Allbaugh is also a friend of Michael Brown, director of FEMA who was removed as head of Katrina disaster relief and sent back to Washington amid allegations he had padded his resume.

A few months after Allbaugh was hired by Halliburton, the company retained another high-level Bush appointee, Kirk Van Tine.

Van Tine registered as a lobbyist for Halliburton six months after resigning as deputy transportation secretary, a position he held from December 2003 to December 2004.

On Friday, Kellogg Brown & Root received $29.8 million in Pentagon contracts to begin rebuilding Navy bases in Louisiana and Mississippi. Norcross said the work was covered under a contract that the company negotiated before Allbaugh was hired.

Halliburton continues to be a source of income for Cheney, who served as its chief executive officer from 1995 until 2000 when he joined the Republican ticket for the White House. According to tax filings released in April, Cheney's income included $194,852 in deferred pay from the company, which has also won billion-dollar government contracts in Iraq.

Cheney's office said the amount of deferred compensation is fixed and is not affected by Halliburton's current economic performance or earnings.

Allbaugh's other major client, Baton Rouge-based Shaw Group, has updated its Web site to say: "Hurricane Recovery Projects -- Apply Here!"

Shaw said on Thursday it has received a $100 million emergency FEMA contract for housing management and construction. Shaw also clinched a $100 million order on Friday from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Shaw Group spokesman Chris Sammons said Allbaugh was providing the company with "general consulting on business matters," and would not say whether he played a direct role in any of the Katrina deals. "We don't comment on specific consulting activities," he said.

GravatarCity buses were ordered and used as ordered by the Mayor to evacuate before the hurricane. Many man thousands were evacuated in a very orderly manner. In fact that is how many were taken to the Superdome.

After the hurricane the Superintendent of schools and the school bus drivers had left town as they were told to do and the school buses were under water anyway. There have been many photos of the school buses and in the up close ones you can see they are half under water.

The mayor was holed up, trapped by the flood with one aid without phones or any kind of communication until the aid was able to manage to get the computer working and they were able to make telephone calls on the internet when some power was restored.

I can't imagine what else anybody thinks he could have done as he was trapped by flood waters, too, most of the time.

GravatarI always thought the palm tree and the crescent moon looked more Sahara Desert than South Carolina, but I never put together why.

That's funny.

GravatarWell the Christofascists are right to be upset - after all, crescent moons wouldn't even be possible without the OCCULT! (ok... occultation, but same difference)

GravatarIt looks like an ad for a Vegas casino.

GravatarI have a CRESCENT Boulevard in my town.

I guess we should change the name.

(Riiiiiight)

GravatarTerry, it's worse in my home town. Buffalo. NY has thousands of brass markers in its sidewalks from 1880-1920 placed their by the contractors... beautiful - but the most numerous are CRESCENTS! Crescent Paving, which was so-named because the contractor's wife was from NEW ORLEANS, which is sometimes referred to by that name or something (I forget the story)

Thousands of crescents in our city's sidewalks - and all related to NEW ORLEANS!

Somehow it must be our fault.
