I'm almost cynical enough to say he'd do it to win Bush some sympathy.
Almost.
BTW, if Bush goes through $62 billion by next month, isn't that 12 times the rate at which we're spending in Iraq? And where does that much money go, that fast?

Well, the mouthbreathers can say whatever they like; I'm not wishing ill on anyone. I'm just saying, he's a man of a certain age, with certain conditions, and, well, let's face it, they could use the sympathy right now. Although how much sympathy that's likely to conjure, I'm not too sure. May not even end in his demise; could be a debilitating stroke that would put him out of commission so that he could "retire" to an Undisclosed location for the remainder of his days. And Cunti would get to be VP for a while. Just sayin'.

According to the peerless Ward Harkavy, who writes The Morning Report for the Village Voice, "On August 15, just two weeks before Katrina slammed into the U.S., the Pentagon boasted of spending $6.4-billion – so far – on 2,705 Corps of Engineers construction projects in Iraq, all but 200 of them started since June 2004.""

A massive global increase in the number of strong hurricanes over the past 35 years is being blamed on global warming, by the most detailed study yet. The US scientists warn that Katrina-strength hurricanes could become the norm.
Worldwide since the 1970s, there has been a near-doubling in the number of Category 4 and 5 storms – the strength that saw Hurricane Katrina do such damage to the US Gulf coastline late in August 2005.

Cheney has repeatedly stated that he doesn't want to be president. Fine. Whether or not he wants the job, there's little chance he'd actually get it. He's far too unlikable and way too defeatable. (All his debate opponent would need do is point out the defibrilator waiting in the wings.)
So how to pick an heir that's not already the VP? You get rid of the veep (for health reasons, Cheney would offer to step aside) and a new VP would be selected. Mind you, this would all need to happen before the '06 election. Ya know, just in case there's a party shift.
The obvious candidate for this would be Jeb. Although he already kinda has a job, with a contract through 2008. But maybe if his bro begs reallllly hard, with sugar on top, he can be convinced to serve his nation in a more prominent manner.

Elective surgery my ass. Bush's poll numbers are in the tank, Iraq is a smoking crater, the economy is teetering, there's an oily Lake where New Orleans used to be and countless smaller cities and towns have been blown off the map. So now is a good time to nip in for a little elective,no big deal procedure that they announce on Friday evening. I don't think so. I bet he's on death's door. Besides the man is bigger than a buick. Cool thing about cruise missiles. They carry video camaras too. You can even send a couple of them and have one circle high above the target filming while the other strikes. Then you can asses the damage through it's camara and then have it attack just as they are crawling out of the rubble. The Tomahawk are pure genius

But people in this country are suffering, too, because of the decisions made about Iraq.

He feels, when it comes to scientific reporting, reporters fail to, "evaluate the credibility of competing claims."

I believe Powell is positioning himself for a run, what with all the "blot on my record" crappola. I think he's too damaged for a realistic run, but I don't think he knows that.

I suspect that Frist would stab his grandmother in the back to be named VP.
There would end up being some mad Repugs, no matter who he came up with.

There ain't no stank attached to him yet. He handily won his last election.
In Florida. I can't imagine why.

The Schiavo case is long forgotten. And if it pops up again, all Jebya has to say is "I was acting out of love for a fellow American. If anything, I cared too much."
Remember, the public have short memories.

Until someone mentions the name *Terri Schiavo*, darlin'.

I promised myself to lay off, but just one last one. Pat Robertson for VP because just when you think he can't come up with anything more stupid and outrageous he does.

Swear to God, this is it. Could he name Schwarzenagger. Because together they would have a 60 percent approval rating. That's not bad.
And OT but the missing kids on CNN are breaking my heart. The fact that so many have no picture devestates me.

Never forget that the spoken--not unspoken--subtext for all neocon/PNAC actions is to keep the US in a state of permenent war with a permanent war ecomony.
Bush himself has talked about "war for a generation" against "terrorism," whoever that is, which makes him a relative moderate. Doubtless the real neocons consider him a lightweight, which is also why they like him.

I'm hoping some ambitious prosecutor gets one of Jeb's defective children to crack and tell what they really know about the 2000 election in exchange for a light sentence.
If young Jebby thinks he's in deep doodoo, his reminiscences could be a valuable asset to the historical record, or history itself.

And Cunti would get to be VP for a while. Just sayin'.
Ahhh...now you're on to something. An attempt to win back the hearts of minority voters? Certainly makes a certain sleazy kind of Rove-ish sense.
So it looks like it settled. Cheney's going down. And when I say down, I mean WAY down. See you in hell, D.C.

So I wonder if Atrios the Economist can tell me something... It strikes me that rebuilding New Orleans (and borrowing the money to do it) might actually be stimulative to the economy. (As opposed to borrowing money and giving it to rich people.) Might we actually get a jobs recovery out of this?

Leaving one to ponder the motivation of Kerry.
Serving faithfully as Bush's dutiful Skull-n-Boners butt-boy comes to mind.

"Jeb as VP would cause riots in the streets.
Nobody would stand for that."
Except freepers and anyone else among the 35% who stillthink that dumb fuck in the white house is doing a good job.

"I'm in the market, sort of, for the kind of foldaway bed that's contained in what looks like a nice big cozy lounge chair. They tend to be a twin - but what I'd like is one that is a double bed. Anybody have any suggestions?
GWPDA"
Found a good one here in OC, couch that lays flat into a double, at Futon World for about $700, as I recall. All wood frame, easy and comfy. Ask Renato, he slept on it a while back...
