Today while listening to Randi Rhodes rant about Bill Bennetts statement it finally coalesced with me what is so wrong headed about it. I know the point he was trying to make.
But just because today 25% of all black men are felons, why in god's name would you assume the same is true of the next generation? Why would you assume that a black fetus is going to grow up with the same dire statistics that his parents generation did? Just because at this unique time in history a bunch of social factors have come together to make a higher percentage of black men felons than white men why would you assume that this is going to hold true in the future? Unless of course you are a clasic racist that believes there is something inherent in the black man that makes him a criminal.
That is where the flaw in Bennett's argument lies and why his protestations are in vain.

You can come up with lots of wild ones, my favorite is that if you used neutron bombs on every city with a high crime rate you would reduce crime. That was Bennetts point to the person he was talking too. Yea you can come up with these but who cares. I think he is getting a bum rap. And I think he is a loathsome, hypocritical, self-righteous prick.
But the real problem is that what Bennett said isnt important. At all. Because, in my opinion, Bennett isnt important. All sorts of horrible things have either happened to or been done by the administration in the last few days. The president took time off from laughing at the attention Bennett has been getting to agree with us that Bennett shouldnt have said that.
