I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarI will not try and run the bases.

Good morning Moonbats.

Gravatarwhat she said

GravatarBut, ql, you coulda scored a home run!

GravatarOh, and cheeba, damn hot gravatar. Self portrait?

GravatarGood Morning ql.

How is mister ql?

GravatarFucking haloscum just ate my last post.

I read the previous thread and think both sides made serious, valid arguments. At first I decided that we shouldn't out anybody, because hey, it is just the wrong thing to do. Upon reflection, however, I think we should. One because it is important to call them on their hypocrisy, and two, the more people are openly gay, the sooner the stigma will go away.

Morning Uncle Smokes. Mr. QL is enjoying his early retirement. Our daughter just left after a two month visit, so we are both enjoying a bit of peace and quiet.

Gravatard-lib...

I wish it was a self portrait...

ya Know who it is?

GravatarAudit Assails the White House for Public Relations Spending

By ROBERT PEAR
Published: September 30, 2005

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 - Federal auditors said today that the Bush administration had violated the law by purchasing favorable news coverage of President Bush's education policies, by making payments to the conservative commentator Armstrong Williams and by hiring a public relations company to analyze media perceptions of the Republican Party.

In a blistering report, the investigators, from the Government Accountability Office, said the administration had disseminated "covert propaganda" inside the United States, in violation of a longstanding, explicit statutory ban.

Gravatar"Slots" Bennett must really be in trouble. He made an emergency "wipe your butt" appearance on Hannity & Colmes.

Here's just one "Slots" highlight:

FLIP: But the problem, I think, on the liberal side, the democratic side is they attitudinize, they condemn but they don't have a program.

FLOP:We don't put liberals down.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/ 0,2...,170880,00.html

GravatarUpon reflection, however, I think we should. One because it is important to call them on their hypocrisy, and two, the more people are openly gay, the sooner the stigma will go away.

The Catch-22 is that outing can be used as a malicious exploitation of that stigma--bringing someone down by playing on the bigotry of the hoi polloi, straight from the textbook of Rove 101.

GravatarUNCLE -

Shouldn't this sort of hypocrisy be brought down?

Gravatar"Attitudinize" is one hell of a word.

All pundits and politicians assume a posture.

As for the Democrats, all I can say is that over the decades they have put into place countless helpful programs.

They have allowed, for percieved political expediency, these programs to be dismantled with barely a fight--or in some cases, with great celebration.

GravatarFLIP: But the problem, I think, on the liberal side, the democratic side is they attitudinize, they condemn but they don't have a program.

Jesus, I need to get a life. I actually woke up thinking about this whole, "Dems don't have a program" meme.

The question on Washington Journal yesterday morning was "Have the Democrats run out of ideas?" On the Newshour, Mark Shields who is supposed to be on our side, said Democrats just can't sit back and watch the repukes implode, they have to have a program. Now you tell me it was on Hannity as well. Do we see a repeat of the Gore invented the internet crap here. It will be repeated and repeated until it becomes the accepted wisdom. Never mind that Conyers and Polosi and Kerry and Clinton and everyone else are out there putting out ideas. Ignore them and just go along with the talking points.

Jesus, it is only 5:16 in the a.m., and I already neeed a drink.

GravatarUncle Smokes, I have a gay daughter and it scares me what may happen. But sooner or later it has to be faced and conquered. That being said, I have forbidden her visit anyplace in between NY and Seattle. Not that it does any good, but it helps me sleep at night.

Gravatar UNCLE -

Shouldn't this sort of hypocrisy be brought down?

The obvious answer is "yes," but I'm conflicted about outing as a political tool.

It has such a sordid past.

In Germany of the 1930's, a man could be prosecuted under Paragraph 175 for just looking at another man the "wong way," a very useful tool for revenge.

During the Cold War, gay employees of the State Department were fired because of the belief that someone could blackmail them over their hidden life.

Now that homosexuality is more in the open, that tactic doesn't work, which shows that ql's main idea, removing the stigma, is correct.

However, we get the "whisper campaign" these days.

Perhaps there will be a day when sexuality, along with race (whatever that means) and gender is a non-issue.

Yet, beginning with Reagan, we entered a regressive period where people got quite comfortable with their bigotry again, and using that bigotry to score political points will be with us for a long time.

I suppose I am merely wishing that this was not the case.

GravatarI would like to think the dems can do better then the catholic church and the repubs. "Look over there! I see a gay"

Gravatar"SECRETARY RICE: I was very young at the time of the counter culture."

he he.

Gravatarwas there only a counter culture at one given time? condi? wtf?

GravatarAck! The coffee hasn't set in: I meant to say: "...for just looking at another man the 'wrong way.'"

I am not sure what the "wong way" is, but maybe Elmer Fudd does.

QL: She's welcome to join me for a drink at Touchez here in the heartland.

Granted: it's the only gay bar in the whole state of South Dakota, and that says a lot about where I'm living now.

Of course, a quick trip to Omaha, Nebraska would show quite a lively scene going on downtown.

GravatarDropped by on my way to bed. Got to say, I don't see anything sexual in the insipid exchange at the top of the last thread. A Fox talker babbling like a star struck teenager, and Rice responding with polite puzzlement. Why would a Fox reporter have an exchange like that? Because they're idiots. Although this Rosen guy sounds like he should cut back on the meds a little bit.

GravatarDropped by on my way to bed. Got to say, I don't see anything sexual in the insipid exchange at the top of the last thread.

I wondered, too, about what innuendo was being discussed.

I think it was the "she's single" bit.

It seemed an irrelevant detail--indeed, the kind of thing you'd hear a someone say if they're trying to get you to date a friend.

GravatarImpeach Cheney First!
Then Chimpeach!

Which, sadly, leaves us with President Hastert.

GravatarThe Catch-22 is that outing can be used as a malicious exploitation of that stigma--bringing someone down by playing on the bigotry of the hoi polloi, straight from the textbook of Rove 101.
Uncle Smokes

As opposed to the riding the elevator to the top based upon malicious exploitation of that stigma to try and protect you from calls of hypocrisy.

How many times will Toby come in here and say that we're anti-Hispanic if Democrats oppose Abu Ghraib Gonazales for the SCOTUS {if nominated}?

How many Little Green Raelians will come in and call Liberals racist for calling Ma-ding-a-ling a Moran?

GravatarNew York Times (via Google)

Americans' income fell unexpectedly and spending declined more than forecast in August, the government reported yesterday, as the economy registered the effects of Hurricane Katrina and as once-strong auto sales waned.

Brilliant!

Hurricane Katrina hit Florida August 25th and the Gulf Coast August 29th. Yet it was responsible for the poor economic showing for the entire month of August.

All the news that's fit to print?

I guess if I didn't read the NYT I'd never be informed of what's happening in the world.

GravatarExclusion of Jews and Blacks from Calif. Death Juries. See http://dearkitty.modblog.com/?sh...& blog_id=753306

GravatarAnd can I say, just for the record, that this whole discussion is precisely why I hate these bastards with a white, hot, blinding anger that I honestly never knew I possessed. Ten years ago I would have categorically said outing is wrong under any circumstances. And that was before my daughter came out. Now here I am willing to use any tool, any dirty trick at my disposal.

I have a log cabin repuke at work who asked me how I could compare this lot with the Nazis. I said it was very simple, anytime the government opts to differentiate one group of the herd and uses that group for political purposes it is Nazism plain and simple. And the old canard of first they came for Gypsies and I did nothing. . . applies here and now in the United States. You already have idiots like Coulter talking about hitting Liberals with a baseball bat. Preachers kicking congregants out of the church for voting for Kerry. Ten years ago they were the extreme wing of the party, today they are the mainstream.

Fuck em all.

GravatarImpeach Cheney First!
Then Chimpeach!

Which, sadly, leaves us with President Hastert.

Speaking of presidential succession, I've been reading Tim Kreider's recent collection of cartoons, Why Do They Kill Me?, and and I'm reminded of this one.

GravatarHeehee. Athenae's book is now a premium on Buzzflash.

My older daughter had been out of the country for two years and missed the entire election cycle. When she first came home and I went on a rant, she chided me for making personal attacks on dear leader, claiming that that kind of talk does nothing to advance a political discussion. I gave her Athenae's book to read, and after hanging out and listening to some of the political shows, she left yesterday calling them all a bunch of motherfuckers.

As a good mom, I should have tsked tsked over her language, but I didn't.

GravatarAs a good mom, I should have tsked tsked over her language, but I didn't.

Impolite people deserve impolite names.

GravatarRe: Democrats need a program.
Folks, we got a program. It is called the New Deal and we need to renew it. We need to say straight up that it is government's role to better the lives of it's citizens by protecting those citizens. Not only from outside threats like the Nazis or the Communists or terrorists, but from poverty, fraud, ill health and old age.
Now suck it up and repeat after me: Fuck you republican shitheels. WE will protect the America you are trying to destroy.

GravatarThe obvious answer is "yes," but I'm conflicted about outing as a political tool.

It has such a sordid past.

Yes it does have a sordid past but as Tom pointed out, we are fighting hypocrites who pander to the "religious" right.

GravatarYes it does have a sordid past but as Tom pointed out, we are fighting hypocrites who pander to the "religious" right.
Steve J.

And a "religious" right that tries to wear it's Uncle Tom's as protective armour against admitting that they are a bunch of corrupt racist homophobic anti-little-d-democratic assholes.

And there is something of a modified Great Society that didn't work too well the first time because Guns and Butter don't mix any better than the program of Tax Cuts plus I'll gladly pay you next Tuesday for Guns you buy me today.

America's greatness will be judged upon how well we treat those that have the least among us.

And the Bushevik signal that they don't want to rebuild the 9th Ward in New Orleans is a big FU to American values and an embrace of the racism and tycoon elitism that almost destroyed America in the late 1800s.

GravatarSo...anyone out there think that the Bush house of cards is now falling down? And why is Tom DeLay still the House Majority Leader? He's been indicted--if memory serves correctly, the Ethics Committee wasn't able to pass that little rule change allowing indicted members to retain their High Poobah titles. Or am I wrong?

Oh...I really want to stay here in Europe. Where most people make sense.

Gravatarmothra - DeLay isnt the House Majority Leader anymore. Blunt from Missouri is.

Different man, same ties to the same money crowd.

GravatarI gave her Athenae's book to read,...

Hey ... WHat's the name of Athenae's book? (Didn't even know she had written one.)

GravatarBill Bennett, darling of the so-called "religious right", is nothing but a stinking ass bigot.

Gravatarmothra, you have been out of touch the past couple of days.

Delay is not the majority leader. They were going to pass the mantle to Dreier, who was next in line, but he is in a loving, committed relationship with another man, so they passed him over and gave it to Blunt, a Delay protege. They will revaluate the situation in January.

Delay is melting down. He's running around saying he never had a chance to defend himself before the grand jury, when in fact he was invited several times to come and speak, but upon advice of counsel he declined the offer. Then he said the prosecutor is a partisan hack. When it was pointed out that Earle has gone after more Dems than repukes, he said yeah, but they were concervative dems. Now he is saying that the prosecutor and congressional dems are in cahoots and that there is a vast left wing conspiracy to do him in. And he claims to have evidence of this conspiracy which he will release at the appropriate time.

I think I got that right.

Jeesh, all that is missing are the ball bearings.

Gravatarres - you can get it here, or over at First Draft. Look on the left hand side.

How ya holding up?

GravatarÔ¿Ô ... you forgot asshole hypocrite of the highest order too.

Thought I'd point that out.

GravatarI've picked up, at a garage sale, the best french fries fryer deep skillet I've ever had. Perfect.

GravatarJust fried some up...

GravatarIs it cast iron one, Ô¿Ô ? The one with like 4" tall sides on it?

GravatarAmerica's greatness will be judged upon how well we treat those that have the least among us.

I shared FDR's quote* on this on a "The Market is God" thread at Polipundit. Little did I know my days were numbered after that.

*The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.

FDR, Second Inaugural Address, Wednesday, January 20, 1937
http://aol1.infoplease.com/t/his...augural/ 38.html

GravatarMorning, all.

So, on my browser, long comment threads don't open. They usually have to be around 700 comments-long or so, but sometimes a little shorter. All I get is a gray Haloscan box.

This apparently doesn't happen to other people.

Any one have any suggestions?

GravatarQL ... I'm okay. I'm exhausted, as would be expected. But I'm okay. I suspect a lot of people aren't going to make it through the three months. The work is just too tedious and the whole operation is sort of like a sweatshop. I think a lot will bail as soon as the exam results come in.

GravatarMore, try refreshing the comments. They'll open eventually.

Yes, a friend who just began a blog said, he was going to pay for the 'premiun Haloscum'.

I advised against it, until he spoke with someone who actually pays for it. I wouldn't pay for something that works 70% of the time.

GravatarBa®ndog, it's more like the thickness of a wok with a handle and almost the same depth with the hot oil pooling in the middle like a wok. I think it's perfect for fying fries.

GravatarThat should be 'Moe'... not More.

GravatarJust caught a glimpse of Bennets brother ( Judy-Judy's attorney ) on NBC. In closing he was asked his opinion of his bro's latest comments. " I don't want to comment, as I haven't read the entire statement " yeah right " I also wish to state that my brother hasn't got a racist bone in his body ".
You'll excuse me now. I must go puke violently.

GravatarOh, gotcha Ô¿Ô. I know what yer talking about now.

Hey, how'd you fare out on hurricane Rita anyways? You didn't get all fucked up did you?

Gravatar try refreshing the comments. They'll open eventually.

Nope. Just tried ten times, no can do.

Can someone email me yesterday's "Idiots Abroad" thread? I'd appreciate it.

GravatarSo, hows that OCD working out Moe?

GravatarAnd what's Atrios doing thinking about lesbians at 12:30 in the morning?

GravatarI'm sure Bennett doesn't think he's a racist at all. It's not like he's a card-carrying member of the KKK or anything.

Gravatar So, hows that OCD working out Moe?
Ba®ndog

OCD? Rub eyes, think through last night's pub crawl, rub eyes again, sip coffee.

Huh?

GravatarMoe,

I read the lesbian thread. It was quite thoughtful, after the obligatory "cunts" and "rug muncher" comments got out of the way.

GravatarIt was perfect for me, Ba®ndog. Plenty of rain and the ground soaked it up like a sponge after our long drought so no flooding.

GravatarOh... so you got all stinky and inebriated last evening, eh Moe.

That'll do it to ya.

GravatarI get stinky and inebriated every night.

Oh, you think I have OCD cuz I'm checking these old threads, but actually, I'm working on a project that will make all Eschatonians happy and joyful, perhaps forever. It will be my Christmas present to the group.

Can't tell you what it is yet, but I need to be able to read that "Idiots Abroad" thread...

GravatarIt was nice having standing water puddled on the ground and walking barefoot through it feeling it squish underfoot.

GravatarMorning, Moonbats

GravatarIt's not the OCD because you are checking the old threads....

It's the "refreshing it like 10 times" to get the thread to work. If MS Windows won't do it after the first 1 or 2, reboot & try again. If it doesn't work then, it will never work.

Just as an addendum... MS Windows is a pile of shit.

GravatarOkay Moe,

I'll bite. How does one send the thread through email. Copy and paste?

GravatarNice green-gray clay squishing between your toes inna rain.....

Gravatar"The obvious answer is "yes," but I'm conflicted about outing as a political tool."

I thought Rosen's comments to Rice were odd, but he may simply have been trying to highlight what he thought were all the things they had in common, without realizing that he sounded like a matchmaker.

As for "outing" prominent republicans, it seems to me perfectly fair. Not to harm them, but to force the right to confront the fact that someone can be homosexual and still be worthy of their admiration. If they choose to abandon them, that is their decision, not ours. And it will force log cabin republicans to accept the fact that they are in the wrong party.

GravatarJust as an addendum... MS Windows is a pile of shit.

Yea, yea, yea. And Microsoft is the anti-Christ. I know all this and even agree with it, but I don't have the time/desire to teach myself to use Linux, and my work partner/boss uses MS, so there are compatability issues, etc, etc., etc.

Totally OT (as if any of this was on topic), but today, I will be taking the ferry over to Halifax proper, walking up the hill to the Barrington Street cemetery, and taking a picture of Sir Robert Ross' grave. I'll post it on one of my blogs tomorrow, for all the world to see.

The man is a hero, and his actions admired.

GravatarMorning all, Moe, I copied Idiots Abroad comments. If ql can't send, I can paste them into a Word doc an email to you. Would that work?

GravatarYes, QL! I'd be forever in gratitude....

GravatarYes, word doc, whatever, THANKS!

GravatarThe clay earth we have around here is reddish orange.

GravatarHey ... I have been working all week and not on the internets or reading the paper. Can someone bottom-line the whole Judy Miller thing for me?

GravatarI have heard of Sir Robert Ross for some strange reason. Can't tell you what it is. I would assume it's not on Bobo's World (only blog I have of yours)...

Lemme know willya?

GravatarAnd this rain and then yesterdays cold front mean no more standing out in the hot heat with a water hose water stressed plants in the yard.

GravatarHe's the guy who burned down the White House.

He's a national hero up here.

GravatarMoe, 126 pages flying your way. Jeez.

GravatarMoe

You've got mail.

May take awhile.

GravatarThanks to both QL and mer-- just got them.

GravatarIsn't technology wonderful?

GravatarHey mer, stealing my thunder?

Jessh, you Atriots, fighting to do a bloke a favor. Can't we get a bit meaner?

Gravatarmorning, rational people.

GravatarIt looks like the gov. has 20 days to appeal the Abu Ghraib photo decision. The way I understand it, the judge himself has the photos and will release them if there is no higher court ruling against him, but I may have that last point wrong.

Gravatarres,

the official line is that Judy-Judy got a personal waiver from her source (Scooter Libby) and a guarantee of limited area questions from Fitzgerald.

me, I think she got tired of the food and unflattering attire.

GravatarOops, sorry ql.

GravatarI just came. Dual piano? That anything like dueling banjos?

Imagine what the Eschatonians could have done with "Piano four-hands".

Condi is W's wife, she has said as much herself. If she has relations outside the concubinial bed I don't care to know. Unless it is ammunition to use against Gwen Ifell.

Oh, great. Should I turn on NPR or am I already angry enough?

GravatarThe crazy cardinal pecking every morning at his reflection in my bedroom window is back...

GravatarThe best part of the previous story, the one with Condi, is that the Fox reporter had to say "..And she's African-American" as if one has to stay within one's race to have friends."
I don't know if Condi's a carpet muncher, but if she is, God Bless. And please let it come out before the election.

GravatarÔ¿Ô,
Speaking of birds and reflections, I walk my dog past a newish high school with a lot of glass. Every morning this summer, I find three or four dead birds in front of the school (or the dog finds them) and I finally figured out what was happening.
On Wednesday, I found a pair of deceased goldfinches and it was very sad.

GravatarI'm sure Bennett doesn't think he's a racist at all.

Like he's not a gambeling addict or Rush isn't a drug addict.

I will point out that he wasn't making a "socratic" argument at all. He asserted that 'we know' that aborting all black babies would cut down on the crime rate. We know is an assertion of a truth.

Unless he extended it and said that if we abort all babies as a way to cut down the crime rate it was as racist a statement as has ever been made anywhere, at any time, in any language.

His saying it in English doesn't make it all right.

And this from the Reagan Sec. of Education. Tell me that genocide isn't the policy of the Republican party in 2005.

GravatarCondi is only a bird in a gilded cage.

Her integrity was sold for a rich man's gold. She's too vapid to be happy but she is free from care.

GravatarYesterday, even his network-mate Michael Medved said that Bennett should apologize, and usually the hosts on Salem Radio are tighter than a memphis horn section.
I listen to Bennett's morning show during Howard Stern's commercials, and he is a load of old shit. In fact, Stern even talked about Bennett's inappropriate remarks. Oh irony!

GravatarIn fact, Stern even talked about Bennett's inappropriate remarks. Oh irony!
The Papal Raging Bull

Howard would never have said shit like that.

Even he has his limits.

GravatarWhat is with the gravatars?

No, but the Bushies have insisted for years now that our own eyes lie and we shouldn't trust them. This plays better when you're loaded!
