I cant believe that some people-even so called liberals- are still defending Benett. The only way way I can get through to some people is to use other absurd examples:
1. If we nuked Israel, terrorism would go down.
2. If we nuked Africa, Aids/poverty would go down.
3. IF we aborted mexican americans, wages would go up
4. If we aborted blonde-women, average IQ's and productivity would go up.
5. If we had aborted the Bush offspring, crime would be lower.

I used to live in Yonkers, NY, for a year, in an old house with a backyard that abutted the old Croton Aqueduct - our back yard was a little wilderness - our cats used to catch voles and bring them into the house and release them - alive. I learned more than I wanted to know about them that year. They are very adept at finding cover under old, badly-laid carpet....

"Miller's release is obviously good news in itself," said the press freedom group Reporters Without Borders, "but she recovered her freedom in exchange for naming her source, albeit with the source's agreement, which means that the principle of the confidentiality of sources, one of the pillars of journalism, has been flouted."
Does a source remain confidential once the source gives permission to use his name? On this planet, I mean, or are they talking about some other planet?

Maybe Atrios' blog troubles are a test having something to do with this:
Meanwhile, the Joint Chief of Staff is working to solve the definitional problem that information operations are everything and thus nothing. Its 5 July 2005 draft update of the information operations doctrine, revealed here for the first time, contains a new definition for information operations: "The integrated employment of electronic warfare (EW), computer network operations (CNO), psychological operations (PSYOP), military deception (MILDEC), and operations security (OPSEC), in concert with specified supporting and related capabilities, to influence, disrupt, or deny human [my emphasis] and automated decision-making, while protecting our own."
We really need to think about and pay attention to stuff like this . . . and leave the damn trolls alone.

It seemed that no animal life had much of a chance on Texas roads - not unless they could hit 80mph or so. Either that, or there are a whole lot of really stupid animals starting about Hays, Ks and moving east. Dead wildlife just doesn't seem as prevalent along western roads - maybe there's just as much but we have more efficient carrion removers....

conditions are favorable for development
I've been watching this one for a couple of a days now. The latest advisory at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Shows it ultimately hitting the northern Mexico coast as a tropical storm. But the thing is that it won't have time to develop very much before it hits the Yucatan peninsula. When a system makes a major passage over land like that before getting really well-organized, there's a pretty good chance that it will completely fall apart before getting over water again.
So my bet is that this one will be of no great consequence, other than making it pretty likely that we actually will run out the alphabet this year....

See, I don't understand this at all. Granted hedgehogs can't exactly fight back, but I've never noticed anybody out here going out of their way to hit a coyote or a javelina. Or a moose. Perhaps it's the urge to kill something small and defenceless that motivates, while out west, anything that could be hit by a vehicle will almost certainly scuttle the vehicle?

GWPDA -- The reasoning is that groundhogs wreak havoc with tractors and other expensive farm equipment used in the fields. Also, horse owners hate them because horses galloping across fields can stumble in groundhog holes and break legs. Our kids had horses for awhile and though nothing like that happened we worried about it a lot.
