Scott Ritter was the UN's top weapons inspector in Iraq until 1998, when he resigned claiming President Clinton was too easy on Saddam. Now he says the dictator doesn't seem to have weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and that trying to oust Saddam is "extremely dangerous." TIME's Massimo Calabresi asked the voluble former marine about his recent private trip to Baghdad, Jane Fonda, and accusations he's a spy for Israel, Iraq or Russia.

GravatarTroutski,

What the right-wing tried to do to Scott Ritter is one of the fucking scariest things I've ever seen.

1. He was Saddam's Agent;

then

2. He was a child molester.

All in the name to try to discredit him...and he turned out to be 100 percent right.

That's how fucking scaring they are.

This American.

Syrian-born Hollywood producer Moustafa Akkad - who was behind the Halloween horror films and the Anthony Quinn epic The Message - died on Friday of wounds sustained in the bombing.

His 33-year-old daughter Rima was killed in the blast.

GravatarAttaturk--need to do laundry, do you?

GravatarJordan used to be part of the Holy Land, I think. Moses was only a little kid when he threw a dollar across the River Jordan.

Are you guys kidding me? That necklace is priceless. It's made up entirely of slave eyeballs.

Gravatarfrankly all of our "we are all londoners" and "we are all madrilenos" stuff was bullshit too. all i heard the cable news flapping gobs go on about was stuff like, "what does this mean for bush?" or "should we have metal detectors every ten feet on the streets of every major metropolitan city?!?"

compassion was not abundantly evident.

GravatarFrom John Kerry's testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations committee, April 22, 1971:

The country doesn't know it yet, but it has created a monster, a monster in the form of millions of men who ahve been taught to deal and trade in violence, and who are given the chance to die for the biggest nothing in history, men who have returned with a sense of anger and a sense of betrayal which no one has yet grasped.

The monster of anger and betrayal grows everywhere . . .

GravatarLichen/Mold Spores '08!

GravatarWatertiger--iron is a noun, not a verb.

GravatarI think we have to recognize a very precise point which says that even amongst well mannered and well intended white americans, there is a silent majority that wouldn't mind at all if all the arab and muslim men in the world just fell over and died.
Add african american males to that list too. But keep Tyra Banks cause she's f*ckable. The same applies to asian males and even those crazy australians 'Right-O'.

I remember a study about this back in 88' when I was Ohio State U. The school newspaper ran an expose about a survey taken anonymously where white people were asked if an alien race came down to earth and offered us the cure for all plagues and illnesses in exchange for our blacks, would we make a deal and let the aliens take them?

Suprisingly the numbers were overwhelming in favor of 'yes, yes they would' which disturbed me greatly cause Ohio is such a suburban state.

But the point is clear. When it comes to the pain felt by others Americans, not just the rightwing side, are less inclined to deal with the hassle of showing remorse or attention to the pain of others not in our immediate pressence 24/7.

This is one of the things about the internet and the new connectivity of the world that thrills me the most. With more connections and more exposure to the outside world via news and such we will no longer be able to look at the suffering of people in some far away land and not feal as if it affects us here in our own backyard. Bring the problems closer to home and people *will* deal with them appropriately.

Except in Mississippi where they dont' really care.

Then again if the whole state of Mississippi were to fall into the gulf I'd celebrate.

GravatarActually I did see a post on a righty blog about how we are all Jordanians now. But I think he was being sarcastic. Their suggestion was for the king to "respond ruthlessly." Not sure how you do that when the people that did it killed themselves in the process. I guess it has something to do with shocking the balls of someone who had nothing to do with the bombing.

GravatarContrast Chimpy's remarks with this snip from another Veterans Day speech:

"I'm not speaking provocatively here. Unlike the other wars of this century, of course, there were deep divisions about the wisdom and rightness of the Vietnam war. Both sides spoke with honesty and fervor. And what more can we ask in our democracy? And yet after more than a decade of desperate boat people, after the killing fields of Cambodia, after all that has happened in that unhappy part of the world, who can doubt that the cause for which our men fought was just? It was, after all, however imperfectly pursued, the cause of freedom; and they showed uncommon courage in its service. Perhaps at this late date we can all agree that we've learned one lesson: that young Americans must never again be sent to fight and die unless we are prepared to let them win."

Here's Rush Limbaugh reverting to classic wingnut form, putting his fingers in his ears and saying, "la-la-la-la-la I can't hear you."

CALLER: I recently have become aware of the fact that the Israelis don't torture when they're interrogating. In fact, the Israeli Supreme Court has outlawed the use of torture in interrogation and I wondered -- you know, because Israel is under so much; you know, they go through a lot more than we go through on a daily basis in their own country -- why do we feel that we have to torture for interrogation when they don't?

RUSH: Well, see, I don't think that we do.

CALLER: You don't think we do? We do or we don't?

RUSH: I don't think torture is a common, ordinary, everyday part of our interrogation strategy.

CALLER: The Israelis never do. Why do we have to?

RUSH: I can't answer that.

CALLER: Why not?

RUSH: I'm not --

CALLER: Why do we have to?

RUSH: I'm not going to grant your premise that we do it.

CALLER: Oh, okay. You're the only one that doesn't know it then.

RUSH: No. I am skeptical of those who make the charge. Just because somebody charges that we're committing torture --

CALLER: Okay, okay, okay, okay. They want to --

RUSH: -- when Ted Kennedy talks about it, and Pat Leahy, I'm not one to join up and sign up and automatically believe that.

CALLER: Okay. They want to allow the CIA to torture in some instances. Dick Cheney is pushing for this. Correct?

RUSH: Cheney you say is pushing for this?

CALLER: Right, right.

RUSH: I don't know that.

CALLER: You don't know that?

RUSH: I don't know that.

CALLER: Everybody else knows it, but you don't know it?

RUSH: Well, the point is it doesn't work. The reason the Israelis don't--

CALLER: Then why is he pushing for it?

RUSH: It doesn't work.

CALLER: Why is Dick Cheney pushing for it?

RUSH: I don't know that he is. Who is telling you that he is?

CALLER: Why is President Bush going to veto this 90-9 resolution that was passed by the US Senate?

RUSH: Because he's the commander-in-chief and they're not. Now you tell me who is saying that Cheney wants to torture in some circumstances? Where are you hearing this?

CALLER: They had John McCain on the other night and they met with them. He said that Dick Cheney is pushing for this legislation.

RUSH: Well, I'm telling you I don't believe everything John McCain says.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I believe everything you say, Rush. You have yourself a nice day. (hangs up)

GravatarSmitty--are you taking over NTodd's position as the Pantless One?
sallyh,Grandmere Poissonniere

NTodd will always be the pantsless one. I merely state that when I work at home, underpants seem like too much.

GravatarAnyone notice the "audience" behind Bush? Most of them don't seem to be listening, especially the guys in camo.

Another Clap or Leavenworth Crowd.

GravatarThe Guardian Leader - Bloodied kingdom

Iraq has always been an uncomfortable neighbour for Jordan. In the Ba'athist days, Saddam Hussein tried to intimidate the pro-western kingdom next door while providing cheap oil. The late King Hussein made a grave mistake when he supported the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. More recently, Jordan has become a haven for those Iraqis, including Saddam's daughters and other elements of the old regime, fleeing fear and mayhem at home. Jordan's economy is booming but prices have risen steeply. Small numbers of men have been arrested for trying to join the Iraqi insurgency. Jordanian Sunnis dislike the rise of Iraq's Shia.

GravatarWhat the fuck are you talking about, eschaton boob?

GravatarBush is really a one trick pony now....

Terror speech to the troops weekly for the next 3 years

GravatarThe Projector in Chief is really bringing it home today isn't he?

Excuse me while I projectile vomit.

Gravatarattaturk--there's no bill on his cap, so it can't be a jockey...

It's also about where people have travelled to. How many Americans have fond memories of days spent in Jordan the way they do of their bus tour through London?

Fuck, I don't know. I'm just pissed off at this crap. It's the same as in New Orleans, the same as in certain neighborhoods of Chicago. If it didn't happen to a white person, it didn't happen.

We're the only real people, everybody else is animals. Because if they're not, if they're people like us, then we have to think about why horrible things are happening to them, and what we need to do to change it. And then we need to go and work our asses off to make it happen, and it's all just too much.

Survivor's on.

A.

Gravatar'rent a audience'.

GravatarWalterNeff--shit, I hope this speech is over soon--I can't squooze juice this fast!

GravatarStrange. Anyone else catch this yet?

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Israelis staying at the Radisson on Wednesday had been evacuated before the attacks and escorted back home "apparently due to a specific security threat."

Amos N. Guiora, a former senior Israeli counter-terrorism official, said in a phone interview with The Times that sources in Israel had also told him about the pre-attack evacuations.

"It means there was excellent intelligence that this thing was going to happen," said Guiora, a former leader of the Israel Defense Forces who now heads the Institute for Global Security Law and Policy at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. "The question that needs to be answered is why weren't the Jordanians working at the hotel similarly removed?"

I believe we have a new addition to the lineup -- the Underpantsless One™

Gravataryes i would love to know where Bush will produce an army?"

Orcs. The answer is orcs.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Gravatar" It is an organisation that sends suicide bombers to kill innocent people, including blameless Arabs and Muslims, in large numbers."

They're collaborators with the US government, who says they're blameless? No guerrilla movement can exist without the support of the people.

GravatarIn his 2003 speech, Bush used the word "veteran" or "veterans" 23 times.

Today, I've heard it three times.

.

GravatarOh, and we actually are all Jordanians.

Blogwhoring.

Anyway, is it too early to start drinking? It's not even noon and I'm already disgusted.

A.

Gravataryes i would love to know where Bush will produce an army?

Well, maybe if we draft all those hairy-pitted feminists who won't let a man open his wallet to them . . .

GravatarRepublican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman fought back valiantly with a conference call to reporters. But for a time, the call was effectively diverted by anti-GOP interlopers who got on a call intended for invited reporters only.

The access information for the call was posted -- unbeknownst to RNC officials -- on the well-known liberal Web log DailyKos.

So, instead of simply parrying the expected questions from reporters concerning the gubernatorial losses in New Jersey and Virginia, Mehlman also found himself ear-to-ear with one antagonist who asked sarcastically: "Given the results of the election, do you think Satan has taken over the country?"

"Next question," scolded Mehlman.

Ha ha! Via AmericaBlog.

GravatarOK, this is but a temporary nom-de-blogge for the day.

GravatarThe Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Israelis staying at the Radisson on Wednesday had been evacuated before the attacks and escorted back home "apparently due to a specific security threat."

retracted by Ha'aretz~!

GravatarClones. Bush will order a few hundred thousand from planet El Camino or something.

Only in their hearts, my friend.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Israelis staying at the Radissssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

GravatarHe's pooping out. Anyone else notice this?

.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Orcs cost nothing. Don't they like, grow in the ground or something?

I mean, on factory farms. Because we all know that the LotR trilogy was about the clash between industrial and rural culture!

Gravatar and where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Bush must be thinking, if he controls the world's oil, then the world will have to loan the money to him.

Gravatarhttp://www.haaretzdaily.com/hase...ges/ 643661.html

GravatarClones. Bush will order a few hundred thousand from planet El Camino or something.

More like Ford Pinto.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Well, he's already mortgaged our grandchildren, so I guess it's a third mortgage on the country from Ditech, with the great grandchildren as collateral

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

It will pay for itself just on the florist business for the flowers they'll throw at us.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Your children.

Gravataryes i would love to know where Bush will produce an army?"

No wonder the people behind him aren't smiling.

GravatarIraqi police cleaning out terrorists...

Bush should watch "Off to War". The troops in it were were convinced the Iraqi Police were involved in the attacks on them.

GravatarSee, Rumsfeld has a big old bag full of hydra's teeth, which they will sow and grow an army of Myrmidons.

Gravatar If it didn't happen to a white person, it didn't happen.

Because Israelis are all white people from northern europe!

Gravataryes i would love to know where Bush will produce an army?"

Is it drafty here?

Gravatarflory - glad you got home safe the other day.

Gravatarhello all.

i suggest mourning mimosas. it's veterans day, after all.

GravatarHundreds of thousands of JimmyJeff clones . . .

GravatarThat post is incredible, Athenae.

The more I learn about you, the more in awe I am of you.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

those damn foodstamp cheats, drivin' round in their cadillacs and buyin' ripple and camel unfiltereds while popping out more unwanted kids - or worse, using birth control and getting abortions.

GravatarPerhaps Bush will announce the formation of the "Bush Youth."

GravatarIsn't Ahnuld the coolest? Tee hee!

GravatarOoooooh, Bush is going off now on his "excuses" for starting the Iraq invasion.

Says it is "irresponsible" to resrite history of how war began.

...so why is he doing it?

And NOW the fucker is going after "democrats" and trying to use the Senate report to excuse it.

Finally something new (albeit bullshit)

GravatarSo are we still going to Mars?

GravatarBush is now digging out and using Kerry's campaign corpse.

This is going to be fun to pick apart in the next few days. Here are the new GOP talking points...

Pretty thin gruel.

He's sunk.

GravatarAnd now Bush has just called those of us pointing out his lies appeasers and unamerican.

Didn't use those words, but when you read the speech you'll know.

This is really enraging. It's digging out the early 2003 arguments again -- when the overwhelming majority of the country believes he has lied.

This is playing with Dynamite.

Gravatarand where will Bush get the money to fund such a folly?

Mars, bitches! The City of Gold on the Red Planet Sibola in Space!

GravatarSays it is "irresponsible" to resrite history of how war began.

...so why is he doing it?

The common response would be IOKIYAR, but I prefer to think of it more like the GOP does: whatever a GOPer does isn't whatever it is they decry, by definition. Gambling, adultery, fraud, torture... Republicans are expressly defined out, you see. If you think a Republican was doing those things, you just don't understand that it's not logically possible.

Gravatarterror is a consequence of imperialism and humiliation.

The bombings in Jordan are a clear response to the Jordanian support for the Iraq invasion. The US is to blame. No terrorists existed in Jordan before we showed up. The government of Jordan is an illegitimate puppet of the US.

GravatarPerhaps Bush will announce the formation of the "Bush Youth."
B1 Bummer

AKA The Clownshirts, each with a spiffy red rubber nose that they wear on ceremonial occaisions...

GravatarBush: Lying us into a war? No I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.

Gravatareschaton boob | 11.11.05 - 12:37 pm

never expected to see such a clear, concise statement of the obvious from one of your obvious limitations...

will wonder never cease?

GravatarMilitary occupation causes terror.

End the military occupation of jordan, now.

GravatarThe root cause of suicide terrorism is foreign occupation and the threat that foreign military presence poses to the local community's way of life.

Gravatarit is the combination of Western occupation and weak states that produced the conditions for radical Muslim terrorism.

You want to end terrorism? End unjust military occupations.

END THE OCCUPATION OF JORDAN! ZARQAWI FOR PRESIDENT!

Gravatar"What the fuck are you talking about, eschaton boob?

He's a troll trying to turn the tables by calling us(me) a left wing whacko extremist for not caring if the state of Mississippi fell into the gulf.

MYOB'
.

GravatarNaw--Bush doesn't even like dead veterans--not when they've got moms named Cindy...

GravatarFor the GOP, White IS Right.
-sallyh,Grandmere Poissonniere

I'm white, and a so called "racist anti-semite" how come I don't think highly of the GOP? In fact view them only as a bunch of non-white Abrahamic ass-kissers same as the other "democratic" GOP?

Gravatar"
He's a troll trying to turn the tables by calling us(me) a left wing whacko extremist for not caring if the state of Mississippi fell into the gulf."

Troll? I'm with ya MYOB, I hope Mississippi falls into the Gulf too. Whats a few million dead rednecks??? LOL!!!

GravatarOhmywebfootedgoddess! It's all become clear. The War on Terra. The Chimperor, whose brain has been eaten and replaced with a dippity do and who is now fully controlled by his reptilian overlord (see split screen), has declared war on the whole earth. Where are Will
Smith and Tommie Lee Jones when we need them?

GravatarThe story in the Washington Post about the two families who were having the wedding, is heartbreaking. Both the bride and the groom lost their fathers.

GravatarOK. Who really believes that "Zarqawi" is behind this or really exists? How convenient is it that when anything happens its blamed on Zarqawi and his evil minions? Could the terror network be distributed and not driven by some evil kingpin? Are we supposed to believe these so called websites that claim Zarqawi is behind this? I must need more tinfoil for the hat. I am truly losing it. But all these stories of Jordanians saying "Death to Zarqawi" can't be wrong. I must be nuts... But I can't help but believe we are pawns in some of the blackest propaganda in the last 100 years. Sure somebody bombed hotels in Jordan. But must we have to believe that it comes from the magical Zarqawi and his evil men? I think they believe that we need a bogeyman...an organic disconnected insurgency will stand... The magical and evil villain must be behind this... Let the nightmares begin

Gravatar"Remind Mom to give me enema."

Dad likes to get in on the action too, FYI. He spanks me if I can't hold my water long enough.
