I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarGood for edwards.

GravatarStill up here alone? whatta I gotta do?

cat pimp somemore?

GravatarSomeone had to be first.

GravatarHi, 4.

GravatarWorld without end, amen.

GravatarI like the way Edwards puts it.

It's very clear, unambiguous language.

"I was wrong and I accept responsibility for my decision."

So right.

GravatarOK, Edwards got religion.

Meanwhile, the presumptive Democratic frontrunner,
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) wants more, not fewer troops in Iraq.

Go figure?
.

GravatarOK, Edwards got religion.

No, I think he's just a sensible person.

GravatarWe now return to your regular programming:

Fuck Bush.

.

GravatarAdd Joe "MBNA" Biden and Joe "Tel Aviv" Lieberman too.

They're neocon Hawks.
.

GravatarFuck Bush.

NoOOOOOOOO!!!!

For the love of god, no!

GravatarHillary's shadowing McCain, who knows why; but I have a feeling if she can't grow a cock, she figures it's the next best thing.

There's gotta be somebody else.

GravatarWhew!!

Couldn't get the site to load there for awhile.

GravatarWhy does John Edwards hate America?

And the troops?

Gravatarmake every D candidate for office in 2006 own up to the war.recant, repent, revise, whatever, but admit that giving Chimpy authority to lie us into war was wrong.

no more pro-war Democrats. not with our dollars!

Gravatar" I take responsibility for that mistake. It has been hard to say these words because those who didn't make a mistake -- the men and women of our armed forces and their families -- have performed heroically and paid a dear price."

Something you will never hear George Bush or Dick Cheney say. They might one day say they are sorry, but they will never tie the price of the mistake to the apology.

GravatarHillary's shadowing McCain, who knows why; but I have a feeling if she can't grow a cock

Hahahahahaha!

Chicks with dicks?
.

GravatarYou don't "support the troops" when you support the LIES that KILL THEM!

GravatarLet us hope that thees Eduardo, hees effort weel how-joo-say "snowball".

so.

GravatarSomething you will never hear George Bush or Dick Cheney say. They might one day say they are sorry, but they will never tie the price of the mistake to the apology.

And that "responsibility" word - like poison, it is.

GravatarIt seems the recent election results have broken through the haze of fear democrats have regarding challenging the Iraq myth. Now we can see some serious movement on the party coming up with a sensible policy. Certainly Commander Cuckoo Bananas' "stay-the-course I'm NEVER WRONG" approach is continuing the failure. As long as Bush is at the top of the GOP, democrats should be able to speak out loudly and clearly about what needs to change.

GravatarUnfortunately, "Bulworth" was only a movie.

He will be ignored or vilified, or both, for telling the truth, and especially for taking responsibility.

Just ask Richard Clarke.

GravatarAB Frost, master of the comic strip in case you missed it below

Gravatarno more pro-war Democrats. not with our dollars!

If we can't spend money actually making our own lives better, be damned if we spend it killing people.

Gravatar It has been hard to say these words because those who didn't make a mistake -- the men and women of our armed forces and their families -- have performed heroically and paid a dear price.

Crying. Holy shit. Did that need to be said.

GravatarI know they're just words, but they're so refreshing to hear.

GravatarNicely done Mr. Edwards.
Thank you.

GravatarGood evening all you lovely folks.

And good for Edwards. Better late than never.

GravatarIt's a sad day when being for "peace" is not a politically popular position.

GravatarMark Warner/Harry Reid 08?
.

GravatarHarry Reems '08.

GravatarHillary's shadowing McCain, who knows why; but I have a feeling if she can't grow a cock, she figures it's the next best thing.

There's gotta be somebody else.

No to Hillary, although I haven't heard her say she's running. You?

And a huge no to McCain.

There are others.

Gravatar"Crying. Holy shit. Did that need to be said.
pie"

Huh?

Gravatar"Mark Warner/Harry Reid 08?"

Clark/Schweitzer ^_^

Gravatar It's a sad day when being for "peace" is not a politically popular position.

Well, being against the Iraqi invasion is a lot more tenable now. Which is why the Democrats are starting to express some regrets about it: because they can.

GravatarThe DNC rhetoric on the Iraq war really pisses me off: "Ah no, I don't think we should cut and run."

OK DINOs, let's bring back the draft.

That will put an end to Bush's middle east Empire building.
.

GravatarOK, Edwards got religion.

No, I think he's just a sensible person.
fourlegsgood

"Religion is responsibility, or it is nothing at all."--Jacques Derrida

Well, that was a pleasant and idealistic moment. Now back to reality....

GravatarWhen you think of Frist contemplating a run for the
Preznitcy, after you finish shuddering, doesn't it make you laugh?

GravatarI really like Edwards. His "two americas " speeches won me over.

GravatarDoesn't anyone know what that resolutions really said? they didn't authorize war, they gave duffous the decision, after he exhausted all other options.

GravatarIt needed to be said that those who've suffered most because of the lies are those who were sent over there.

Is that clear?

GravatarEdwards couldn't say it better.

It's easy to say 'where were you in [insert year]?', but it's also important to give credit where it's due. The last thing the consistent anti-war Dems need right now is to set high penances. There are plenty of people lining up to say the same. And prodigal sons need to be welcomed back.

It's such a contrast to Bush, who plainly doesn't take responsibility for his fuck-ups.

Anyone got the line-up for the bobblehead shows tomorrow?

GravatarHarry Reems '08.
Max Planck

Hahahaha! He had John Bolton's stache before John Bolton.
.

Gravatar"Well, being against the Iraqi invasion is a lot more tenable now. Which is why the Democrats are starting to express some regrets about it: because they can."

It's just sad that this country is so bloodthirsty that we have to kill tens of thousands of people before stopping to re-think the whole idea.

GravatarI was wrong.

Watch the media to see who lambasts him for this and who praises him, for being honest.

Gravatar His "two americas " speeches won me over.
patriotboy

That was the only Good speech of the campaign. And Obama's at the convention.

I miss good speeches

GravatarWhat's puzzling Fitz is that the classic prosecutor's query "Were you lying then, or are you lying now?" doesn't encompass lying both times.

GravatarI really like Edwards. His "two americas " speeches won me over.
patriotboy

Somebody needs to mess up his hair. Maybe not let him shave for a couple of days

GravatarEdwards did the right thing because the more you look at the facts, the more it's obvious that the administration did what is it being accussed of. Here's a pretty clear example of manipulated intelligence from the Senate Select Committee, you know, the report that supposedly exonerates the Bush administration:
http://tinyurl.com/bhmrc (PDF)

“A September 13,2002 New York Times article which discussed the IC debate about the aluminum tubes, noted that an administration official said, “. . .the best technical experts and nuclear scientists at laboratories like Oak Ridge supported the CIA assessments. The contractors told Committee staff, however, that before September 16,2002, they had not seen any of the intelligence data on the Iraqi tubes. DOE officials, including the Director of the Oak Ridge Field Intelligence Element, told Committee staff that the vast majority of scientists and nuclear experts at the DOE and the National Labs did not agree with the CIA’S analysis.”

Oh, and the article was published by Judith Miller. Go firgure.

GravatarI have to admit I'm a little shocked by how many people take prescription anti-depressants.
I'm luckily not prone to depression at all(I think it's a matter of luck, or genetics), but even if I was, I think I'd be scared of the side effects.

GravatarDoesn't anyone know what that resolutions really said? they didn't authorize war, they gave duffous the decision, after he exhausted all other options.

I think everyone knew what they really meant. It was much more than what was written on the paper.

GravatarMaybe Kerry and Hillary will grow some balls and come out against the war now that it's safe to do so.

Gravatar>those who didn't make a mistake -- the men and women of our armed forces and their families -- have performed heroically and paid a dear price.

Last part is true. But anyone who thinks following an Administration full of lying chickenhawks into an obviously illegal war is the right thing to do is making a very tragic mistake indeed. And once you agree to follow liars and criminals, there's nothing heroic about flattening people's homes and razing their cities. Nothing.

The heroes are the ones who refused to participate in mass murder ordered by unfit leaders.

Sorry.

Gravatartime to go make soup. See you later bats
have a fun evening!

GravatarSorry but too little too late.
Fuck you Edwards.
You should never have supported it in the first place.
You either knew the whole thing was a PNAC sham which makes you a hypocrite and complacent in the crime by going along or you didn't know it was a PNAC sham which makes you a fool too eager to dismiss claims made or too stupid to look them up yourself when your staffers were off eating 2 hours lunches rather than do their jobs.

I don't support people who go along to get along with lies. Either show the conviction needed to stand up for what's right or get the hell out.
You're part of the problem, not part of the solution. You and that whole bunch of pussy democrats.

MYOB'
.

GravatarA note to the Dems:

There are more voters with abject buyer's remorse than there are voters who want to hear the DLC tough-guy line. These voters want to support politicians who are prepared to represent their mea culpas.

It's not just the right thing; it's the smart thing. Regardless of scoundrels like Instafuckwit wanting to smear it as unpatriotic.

GravatarIt's just sad that this country is so bloodthirsty that we have to kill tens of thousands of people before stopping to re-think the whole idea.

It's not the killing that has gotten people to *re-think* anything.

His domestic policies made people mad enough to consider that everything he does sucks.

Aren't you in Michigan? What are you doing on the blog?

GravatarToo bad he apparently was not born in this country. Otherwise:

WalterNeff/Malkin '08

GravatarI was right.

Three years ago I sat on my old sofa, watching my old TV and knew that Cheney, Rice, Bush and Powell were lying. In fact, every sensible person I knew realized they were lying because Powell and Rice had said the exact opposite six months earlier. We wrote letters; we went to demonstrations. People like Edwards were too cowardly to say out loud what we were screaming. And Edwards is too cowardly now to acknowledge that it was the left which "didn't make a mistake" -- not our armed forces.

GravatarWhat is success? I don't think it is Iraq as a Jeffersonian democracy. I think it is an Iraq that is relatively stable, largely self-sufficient, comparatively open and free, and in control of its own destiny.

At the risk of sounding pessimistic, I don't see any of this happening in the forseeable future.

That said, good on John.

Oh, and thanks George.

Gravatars could help immensely be spelling out, exactly, using concrete and specific language, how he was lied to.

How, exactly, was the US~Senate given false indformation? How were the facts deleted and the hype substituted?

Edwards, by elucidating how/why he was misled and lied to, could score big points by providing cover to the Senate D's for opposing Bush's Quagmire.

Gravatar"It needed to be said that those who've suffered most because of the lies are those who were sent over there.

Is that clear?"

Okay, just the way you said it first was a bit confusing. Just clearing things up a bit in how I read that.

Gravatar Maybe Kerry and Hillary will grow some balls and come out against the war now that it's safe to do so.

Kerry already has, I think. He has balls of convenience.

Gravatargood for Edwards!

(although General Clark doesn't have to say he was wrong...)

Gravatar"It'll be interesting to see if any major candidate for president, from either party, will still think Iraq was a good idea." - Atrios.

Like Atrios admitted his comparisons of the US military to those of Hitler and Stalin were wrong? Oh wait, he never did admit those were wrong. A phrase that is catching on with the kidz "Atrios supports the troops!"

Happy Veterans Day!

GravatarOh, here we go.

The Dems are blah, blah, blah.

Hilarious.

GravatarI think everyone knew what they really meant. It was much more than what was written on the paper.
patriotboy |

That was one big gulp of KoolAid

GravatarStrangely enough, I'm thinking Gore looks good. Seriously. Can't figure out where he'd get the cash though.

GravatarAtrios- Do you have a bias against Russ Feingold? He never voted for that stupid fucking war and is considered a candidate.

GravatarSorry but too little too late.
Fuck you Edwards.
You should never have supported it in the first place.

Well, that's nice.

I believe your high horse measures 23 hands.

Like it or not, American politics is only going to head in the right direction by accepting the apologies of people who supported Operation Iraqi Fuckup in the first place.

Heck, the first black South African government knew that the worst white racist bastards had to confess their sins.

GravatarI remember George Romney saying "I was brainwashed" and what happened to him.

GravatarReligion is responsibility, or it is nothing at all."--Jacques Derrida
Oh how about:

Religion is the refusal to take responsibility, because you can alway blame something else for your shortcomings.

GravatarLadyfriend is on the way. Had to clear the decks and scrub the toilet.
.

Gravatar"...Gore looks good. Seriously. Can't figure out where he'd get the cash though."
--SSquirrel

He'd get some from me.

GravatarI like how edwards says it like it is.

Politicians lied and it's soldiers and the family of soldiers who've paid the ultimate price.

I just with the 30some% that still supports bush can get their heads out of their arses and see that.

GravatarGet some new lies, Mich^H^H^H^HCog. You're dull.

Gravatareven before bush my bud said edwards would one day be president. but he compared his charisma to hitler and obviously didn't mean it in a good way. edwards is so lite weight to me. i dig his message, but there is a bit of the smarmy salesman about him.

if i'm not mistaken kerry in his inimitable under the radar way has also said he would not have voted for the res.

look, let's face it, rove punked 'em all. the guys who didn't vote for it are so far left they aren't in the game, and the guys who did have the quandary. they should just say "i got fucked by rove" he's bad for the nation. maybe it's more complicated than that. but you would never get me to retract what i just said.

GravatarReligion is the refusal to take responsibility, because you can alway blame something else for your shortcomings.
1watt.Secret Squirrel

Nahh, that's just being human.

GravatarThank you John Edwards.

I appreciate your honesty.

GravatarYeah, he and the rest were "wrong".

Bulllllllchit! He wasn't wrong. It's just that it was easier to pander to AIPAC and its minions.

Fuck Edwards, cowardly piece of shit. Fuck him and all the funcking liars.

GravatarWhat is success? I don't think it is Iraq as a Jeffersonian democracy.

I don't see Iraq as a single republic at all anymore. A bit like when Marshal Tito left the scene in Yuroslavia.

GravatarOkay

Okay.

GravatarFor a leader, Edwards is slow, just because he is faster than some other Democrats and any Republican he is still goddamned slow. Of all the widely followed liberal bloggers only Josh Marshall fell for Bush's "Let's bomb Iraq real good now because they are Arabs." war.

GravatarHappy Veterans Day!

GravatarTrollie, trollie, run away!

GravatarHe has balls of convenience.
Eli

So, you mean where the same person can work the shaft and stimulate the balls of convenience?

GravatarDartanyon: Hillary's got as much chance of winning the White House as Joe Lieberman. Or Joe Biden, for that matter.

Edwards said the right things in his speech. This automatically makes him the front-runner for 2008.

GravatarHad to clear the decks

??????????

GravatarEli, any good sci-fi on tonight?

GravatarNewsweek wants to know whether you would vote for Dems or Rethugs if Congressional elections were held today. Let them know@

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1001.../site/newsweek/

GravatarThey voted to give Shrub the option because the public wanted blood. They chose to pander and cave instead of make a principled stand. Anyone who claims that Bush broke his word is a liar or is too stupid to be President.

Gravatar I really like Edwards. His "two americas " speeches won me over.
patriotboy

As someone on the threads pointed out the other day, he was the only one talking about poverty before Katrina.

I like him too, I like him a lot. My feeling is that he's almost too good right now - maybe it's just me. But he's almost too good looking and too, well, I hate to say glib, but I can't think of another word for it. He just needs a little gravitas, and I think he's going to be one of our great Democrats. I think he could make a really good president.

GravatarHave you ever been conned? Been sold a piece of crap that broke, or a counterfeit, or clicked on 'OK' and got your computer infected with shit?

You feel embarrassed and angry and a fucking fool.

Magnify that by 2000+ orders of magnitude, and that's how plenty of Dems in Congress (and the media) feel.

Gravatar Eli, any good sci-fi on tonight?

Locusts! With Dan Cortese, David Keith, *and* Jeff Fahey!!!

GravatarMYOB, what is the incentive for more Dems to come out against the war, if those of us who were against it from the beginning refuse to accept their remorse and say "Fuck you".
What about a vet who went to Iraq, thinking it was a good thing, and then changes his mind and speaks out against it? Are you going to say "Fuck you" to him or her too?

GravatarStill wondering why Bush was too busy to lay a wreath yesterday....

I thought the message in having Cheney give the Arlington speech was that he's going no where any time soon.

Flesh Eating Locusts...

Gravatar Had to clear the decks

I don't have decks either.

GravatarThe current members of Congress need to make the same apology, which then should be followed up by action that shows the apology to be sincere.

Insisting on a detailed plan for the total withdrawal of troops would be a nice start.

GravatarAs someone on the threads pointed out the other day, he was the only one talking about poverty before Katrina.

I know it's an online poll, but wow.

GravatarHe just needs a little gravitas, and I think he's going to be one of our great Democrats.

The work he's doing with UNC right now may help: slightly wonkish, but hands-dirty stuff dealing with poverty and low-paid work. I always felt that Edwards had the most intuitive narrative on poverty (although Gephardt has the better policy ideas, he doesn't deliver them well), and that's not going to change.

GravatarI thought the message in having Cheney give the Arlington speech was that he's going no where any time soon.

I'm just thankful that Cheney didn't show up in a WalMart parka and galoshes.

2) point out that the Pubs withheld critical dissenting information (like the forged documents or "Curveball")

3) take responsibility and apologize to the families.

right there with you, girl.

i love pot. i'm the first to admit that. but nothing else, and it's an herb, not a researched, derived chemical compound. i've known plenty of drug users, legal and street, regular and occasional. i've yet to see a mind altering drug that has any long term benefit except for the very special few. my roomie may be one of those people, and she may not. personally, i'd like to see her try 100hrs of talk therapy first, and then try a drug.

depressed? well, try being a starving sudanese rape victim. fat? think critically about what you're eating, and be honest with yourself. drunk? AA has a higher success rate than every other known form of therapy. wanna quit smoking? recongnize that nicotine is out of your system in 24hrs, the rest is just habit. which can be broken, with a modicum of discipline.

mom's a doc. docs joke, all the time and with bitterness, about patients with "needs." they come in saying, "i just need a little (drug x)" as if that's a new line. the human body wasn't meant to be "regulated" with additional chemicals. it was meant to be experienced, to grow old and fat and to die, but evolution has taken care of 99% of the chemical "issues" that people worry about today. we make so much more of what we are than we should, and at the same time deny that being unique, flawed, complicated, and variable is in fact normal.

big pharma has gotten fat, rich and politically powerful from the people in this nation who can't deal with a night or two of lost sleep, or their feelings that they're not 'popular' enough, or their weakness for fatty friend foods, etc. jesus christ look around at the world- how many teenage chinese slave labor victims have access to percription drugs? like, none. and yet somehow, they manage to survive a daily reality that would kill your average couch surfing american in ten minutes.

i hate drugs. they've destroyed this country. the answer to all life's problems isn't found in a pill, anymore than it's found in a pipe, a bottle or in a package of ice cream.

Gravatarno need to piss on all those swing voters who bought into the same lies Edwards (knowingly, or otherwise) bought into.

GravatarMrs. Ibrahim al-Jaafari - That would be outstanding!

Agreed. I suspect there are clearance issues, at least for those on the Intel Committee, but I'd like to hear a narrative of that two-month period after the 'product launch' through to the end of October 2002.

I suspect it'd remind people of encounters with shiny-suited car salesmen.

GravatarI just noticed I've had an open bag of syringes on my desk since August. I wonder if anyone noticed?

GravatarIt's hard to tell anymore what is sincerely heartfelt and what is political maneuvering. Edward's mea culpa and regret may be "sensible" and it may be "he got religion" but it's no great act of courage to come out against the war now that it has turned to shit. As far as I am concerned Barbara Lee (D)CA by voted against the war displayed more cajones than any of these poseurs for the presidency. Fat chance that she'll be in New hampshire or Iowa. the war in 2008.

GravatarHappy Veterans Day!

GravatarQuestion, the various different secretaries such as Rice or Rumsfled are appointed right?

How can they be removed from the their jobs?

And speaker of the house and president pro tempore, are voted in and could be voted out?

Basically, all those in succession for the presidency with the exception of President and Vice President do not require impeachment to be removed from that succession?

GravatarAtrios- Do you have a bias against Russ Feingold? He never voted for that stupid fucking war and is considered a candidate.

Unfortunately, being that Democrats don't have access to the GOP's money vaults, we have to make sure our candidates for President are charismatic. Feingold's about as charmismatic as Dennis Kucinich. He'd make a good Veep guy, though.

GravatarThe reasons for this war were bogus. Even a child could understand that. To these ends apologizing now seems a bit of a stretch.

GravatarEdwards is the man for 2008 and way beyond for this country and I support him all the way. He is a fresh face, voice, and feeling that this country is desparate for.

All who have never, ever made a huge mistake, raise your hand now! AHA! Thought so!

GravatarHow Wrong Was He?

This wrong!

GravatarA huge misstake was made. That misstake snowballed out of anybody's control.
And it will continue to snowball with speeches like the president's Veteran's Day speech.
The only hope we have is that more people accept their responsibility in creating this avalanche and admit like John Edwards that they were wrong.
Only then can we start to think how to correct the wrong.

GravatarGood for you Edwards, but you should have known this at the time. We did.

GravatarLatest Entry Into Toy Hall of Fame Might Surprise You

On Friday, the cardboard box was enshrined in the National Toy Hall, along with Jack-in-the-Box and Candy Land.

"I think every adult has had that disillusioning experience of picking what they think is a wonderful toy for a child, and then finding the kid playing with the box," said Christopher Bensch, chief curator of the Strong Museum. "It's that empty box full of possibilities that the kids can sense and the adults don't always see."

GravatarJoke free post
-----------
Cheney laid the wreath at Arlington; even Rove knew that it would have been inappropriate for Bush to make that speech at Arlington. As I posted yesterday, the word "veteran" or "veterans" was not uttered during the last 16.5 minutes of his 20 minute speech (save for the last "thank you" line).

The day pharma starting advertising on TV, and not telling you what their drug was for, but telling you to call your doctor because you most definitely needed it, was the day that put me over the edge. But not enough to take drugs.

GravatarI was right.

Three years ago I sat on my old sofa, watching my old TV and knew that Cheney, Rice, Bush and Powell were lying. In fact, every sensible person I knew realized they were lying because Powell and Rice had said the exact opposite six months earlier.

In the years to come, when there is no longer any political price for them to pay, I wonder how many politicians will come forward and admit that they never actually believed the WMD bullshit. I suspect the vast majority of them didn't, but voted for war anyway because, besides the fear of being labeled "unpatriotic", they actually did believe the second pile of bullshit that was being propagated by the adminstration in 2002- that the Iraq war would be a "cakewalk".

Gravatar"Edwards is the man for 2008 and way beyond for this country and I support him all the way. He is a fresh face, voice, and feeling that this country is desparate for. "

But does he have the skills in leadership at this point to work like a maniac in repairing all the wrongs. Not knocking him, but does he have the goods.

I used to say simply an honest president would be good enough at this point, but the damage is so severe now that it will take a once in a lifetime leader to do the trick.

Gravatari hate drugs. they've destroyed this country

Beer and Beer halls made this country, beligerant radicals full of revolution. Hemp too, whoo hooo.

Everything and anything can be a drug. Humans crave relief.

Sucks taking this crap I take, and I don't like the huge culture behind it. But, I like being alive and not having a daily urge to do myself in. It's not a short term sadness, it's a family problem (something I just recently found out).

.

Gravatari'd like to see Clark run... he's smart, and because bush got us in a war, i feel Clark's probably the best guy out there to help us get some dignity back for America. he has spoken about how to get out of Iraq, how to use diplomacy...

just my 2 cents...FWIW

GravatarMay I quote the cover of this week's The Nation:

There can no longer any any doubt: The American war in Iraq--an unprovoked, unnecessary, unlawful invasion that has turned into a colonial-style occupation--is a moral and political catastrophe. It has also become the single greatest threat to America's national security . . . .The Nation will not support any candidate for national office who does not make a speedy end to the American war in Iraq a major issue of his or her campaign.

GravatarWell, it took 2,063 needless American deaths in Iraq
for John Edwards to admit his transgression.

Maybe, when the number reaches 20,630 needless
American deaths in Iraq, pigheaded Hillary Clinton
will wake up too?

Stranger things have happened.
.

GravatarAll who have never, ever made a huge mistake, raise your hand now! AHA! Thought so!

I've never made a mistake that's resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, and hundreds of billions of dollars pissed away...

Fuck you Edwards.
You should never have supported it in the first place.

Say hello to President McCain then. Or worse.

GravatarI think mescaline and cocaine are fine drugs and far superior to alcohol. And the cardio benefits are substantial. But there is always some idiots who give the fun police an excuse. But, hell, alcohol is responsible for over three thousand fatalities a month and nobody says dick, that's just stupid. Maybe I'll go to law school, just for the drugs.

GravatarEverything and anything can be a drug.

Really?

Can dust bunnies be a drug?

'Cause if they can, I'm fucking set for life. And all non-trolly Atriots get to "bunny-up" for free on moi.

Because I'm just that kind of guy.

GravatarDems should pick someone who was against the war from the getgo.

GravatarI agree that Clark is one of the best out there. If Kerry had chosen him as his running mate rather than Edwards then the election wouldn't have been close enough for Bush to steal again.

GravatarFourLegs - Nice Mr. Plushy! He sleeps almost as well as I do. Not as sleek, however.

Arthur's chew toy looks......big.

GravatarMy wife, my little boy, and I protested Edwards' vote on this during a fundraiser here in Raleigh. The protest raised a small ripple in the blogging community because Mark Kleinman thought that "disrupting" a fundraiser was not an appropriate action for the anti-war folks to take. To impolite or something.

The word "disrupting" was injected into the debate by the overheated description of the event by a local blogger and the protest did no such thing. It did get the Senator's attention, but did not impact his thinking at the time.

I am glad he has finally gotten religion about it, but at the same time: He's a smart man. The falsity of the Bushies' motivations and rationale should have been obvious to him at the time.

I hope that this signals a new humility and criticalness about the actions of people whose political aspirations have something less than the interests of the country at heart.

We've all lost some of our innocence since the Republican's took over. Let's try to turn the experience into something positive.

But first. There are some heads that need to roll, and some naked carcasses that should be swinging from lamp-posts.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Election Results Show Republicans Paying Price for Bush's Move to the Left

Sixty-nine percent polled said that President Bush is not governing as a conservative, and gave him a grade of D for "controlling government spending." Eighty percent said they were either "disappointed or angry" with the GOP- controlled Congress, giving them a grade of D+.

This is from some right wing org called ConservativeHQ.com. What a crock.

GravatarYou don't understand. We went to war as part of God's plan. We need to do this, as Israel did in the Bible. It isn't pretty, but it's worth it, and we must sacrifice for the glory of God. God is working through ush, but you are all atheists and commies so you will never admit that. You are objectively evil and on the wrong side of history. The just will prevail. So far we have. You will be stomped out like a fire or a cancer. Toodles!

Gravatarhow many teenage chinese slave labor victims have access to percription drugs? like, none. and yet somehow, they manage to survive a daily reality that would kill your average couch surfing american in ten minutes.

The problem is that they don't survive their daily realiy. If they did, and were magically transported to, say, an American suburb and given a cushy trust fund, they'd be popping pills along with the rest of us.

Go check out Maslow's hierarchy of needs sometime.

i don't know who, but not edwards, and not HILLARY. jebus, 3 more years of asshole, will it even matter?

GravatarHas Edwards declared for '08? I ask because I hadn't heard anything (although it's no surprise) and then the other day he said, re: Hillary Clinton and the DLC's "More Troops!" position; "Did she really say that?", which sounds like a warning shot into her forehead, and at least an informal declaration of war. I can't believe he didn't already know her position.

Gravatardriftglass,

I enjoy your blog immensely.

GravatarBush didn't believe Iraq had WMD or he wouldn't have sent troops in. See North Korea for example.

Sending troops after a madman with nukes is beyond even Bush's evil/stupidity.

GravatarChi dyke, I hear what you're saying, but I don't want to come off as sounding smug, because some people really need the drugs to function, and I just consider myself lucky that I'm not one of them. It just seems like there are a lot more depressed people out there, just like there are a lot more kids with asthma than there were in previous generations. Are they doing it on purpose? Of course not, who would want to be miserable all the time.
Is it environmental, or societal? I don't know the answer to that one either.

I didn't think that there were wmds there. I thought that it was possible that there were some, based on the info coming out of the UN, but that was not certainty.

And regarding Iraqi WMDs in the hands of terrorists: Don't forget the quarter-million tons of HE lost due to Rummy's ineptitude. That is still out there and it isn't getting any more found.

GravatarThis is from some right wing org called ConservativeHQ.com. What a crock.

Um, no. He really is a bad conservative. He's jacked up spending like nobody's business, and borrowed more money than all other presidents put together.

GravatarRawStory has the latest NEWSWEEK Poll on Bush. Yikes!

On the topic of how Bush is handling certain aspects of his job;

60% percent disapprove of the way he is handling the economy.
32% percent approve.

77% percent disapprove of Bush's handling of oil prices.
20% percent approve.

68% percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time.

When asked if they think Bush can be an effective president during his last three years in office;
56% percent - a majority say the President 'won't be able to get much done.'

Hey George, just resign. It's over.
.

GravatarI am kind of a Clark fan. In the end this is the question: why do we always settle for someone. What is wrong with being the best?

Clark may be a bit self-serving but he is the real thing. A man whose bravery cannot be questioned. A man skilled in international affairs. A man who rose from a less than rich beginning to succeed. An erudite and circumspect man. Why not the best?

Regardless of whom the Dems run

Clintons aren't at least as
against the war as Edwards now is,
i.e. unambiguously saying that going

GravatarC-D - I'm sure your mother and father will tell you that depression that is treated with various kinds of anti-depressive medications is a biochemical imbalance and not the consequence of an external event or catastrophe. Being aghast that people with that particular chemical imbalance would prefer to try to correct it rather than tough it out is singularly inutile. Quite often, as well, it is a symptom of an entirely different physiological issue - say, for example, hypothyroidism or insulin related endocrinological issues.

And nicotine takes a minimum of 48 hours to leave the system - but some people are habituated whilst others are physically addicted - and one never knows which one is til one tries to stop. Again, a cavalier dismissal is hardly useful. Or even kind. It is, merely, cavalier.

I'm off to watch the sunset. Somebody's got a pinon fire going too!

GravatarDon't forget the quarter-million tons of HE lost due to Rummy's ineptitude. That is still out there and it isn't getting any more found.

MYOB, what is the incentive for more Dems to come out against the war, if those of us who were against it from the beginning refuse to accept their remorse and say "Fuck you".
What about a vet who went to Iraq, thinking it was a good thing, and then changes his mind and speaks out against it? Are you going to say "Fuck you" to him or her too?
Karin | Ema

since like 1978, the dems haven't listened to progressives or far lefties like me, so i highly doubt what i say or do matters to them. i can say "fuck you" to about 90% of national dems, and not lose sleep. they don't care about me, and i'm true to my principles. who sleeps better?

as to the vets, as one of a long line of vets, i'm not worried. the "meet people and kill them" types don't think, and will never do anything more than wrap themselves in a flag. the rest, a majority, i might add, understand that when i say "fuck you W" and "fuck you enabler/appeaser" i'm really fighting for vet rights. it's the rethugs who cut vet benefits, rethugs who send them to die for no reason and without proper equiptment, who lie to them and shut down their wives and families when those groups ask questions. and it's the rethugs who avoid going to Reed Hospital or funerals or any other reminder of who's really paying "the ulitmate sacrifice."

kos is an example. there are many, many more. i'm not the one who should worry about "what people think." it's appeasing, chickenshit "flipfloppers" who vote one way today, and another the next. and have the gall to ask me to accept their no-sacrifice no-cost go with the prevailing winds "apology."

GravatarHere's something that occurred to me the other day. I doubt it will make a dent, but here goes.

If I had been a member of Congress then, and knew that I had as my primary duty the defense and the protection of the country, I think the whole thing would have kept me up nights. It's an uneasy thought, that one could be the legislator who voted "no" right before the country was hit again. I'm not sure what I would have done in those circumstances; especially if I thought there was the slightest possibility Saddam had something and might cough it up if he knew the preznit had the authority to use force.

I'm just saying that I'm not in their shoes - I don't have a responsibility to the country, other than to be a good citizen. Maybe this is a rationalization - I don't know. I just know I have no idea what it's actually like to be in Congress and have that responsibility.

GravatarRe: psychogenic meds

I think that there's a wide variation in tolerance for such meds.

A few years back, I tried an anti-depressant with the blessing of my talk therapist because some of her clients had reported great success in becoming "unstuck" and "getting out of their own way". Sounded like a plan!

So I went to my GP and he prescribed Wellbutrin. I had a hard time dealing with the initial side-effects, especially instant insomnia. After that settled down, nothing much happened for the next several weeks. My prescription plan required additional certification to even refill the scrip, and since I wasn't feeling any better I decided to stop taking it.

During my "debriefing", so to speak, and after further inquiry, I learned that the "right" way to go about it was to visit a psychiatrist experienced in prescribing meds.

Furthermore, it was described as very much a trial-and-error process. It seems that some respond well to one med or combination of meds, some to others. I sat in on a group session with people who were taking at least two kinds, e.g. Prozac and lithium.

Those people were willing guinea pigs, and it may well be that they're better off than I am for going through those months of experimenting to find the right meds and dosage.

But I couldn't face putting myself through that.

hahaha, even John McCain and Lindsay Graham are horrified by the Chimperor's minions casual use of torture. but I guess mitzi is cool with torture. fortunately, 57% of the American people realize what a fuck up the coke snorting draft dodger has made of the Iraq Quagmire.

57% and growing, freeper.

GravatarI opposed Clark at first - when he first announced it seemed opportunistic at the time but he has been slugging away at Rove, Bush and Cheney even after he lost the bid for President and got passed over for VP. From a pure electoral college point of view, I think he can get all the states Kerry did and get 3 or 4 states that have been Republican even without the help of election tampering.

Only he and Dean were willing to stand up to Fox News and of the two, only the Genral could make the dogs at Fox stop yapping.

Gravatar"Toodles" is derived from the French. Just sayin.

Gravatartoodles

Isn't that a teletubby?

GravatarWoody, I think this one's batshit crazy.

steve simels

Who was that asshole who would spew in all directions, then sign off "Have a Nice Day" or some such shit?

GravatarJohn Edwards: a Pretty Good Guy and Movie Star Handsome. He's cute on TV, but he's gorgeous at the Bandshell. Oh, and smart.

Why did Kerry concede?

I never thought I could miss the Big Dawg this much.

GravatarYou need to stop talking when the grown-ups are

That is so funny coming from one of Little Boot's supporters.

GravatarLiberals are so pathetic. I have written you off, so have most of us. You need to stop talking when the grown-ups are, or at least be respectful and use the rules of debate. But NO! You whine, shout, stomp your feet and throw things!

Toodles!

Will you fucking leave already, stupid fucking torture-apologist whore bitch from the nether regions? Thanks.

GravatarRe: psychogenic meds

I think that there's a wide variation in tolerance for such meds.

My personal experience? A couple three or four years back, my doctor put me on Celexa for depression. I'm typically not a depressed person, but at the time, I had found a lump in my breast (ended up being non-malignant) and was experiencing major reorganizational changes at work, so I was a bit stressed out.

She then kept tinkering with my meds, and added Wellbutrin (shich gave me wild nightmares) and another anti-depressant that begins with a "T" to help me sleep at night ~ can't remember the name ~ so I was literally on a pharmaceutical cocktail. Couldn't drink alcohol while I was on the cocktail, either ~ and if I did, I'd get way fucked up.

During that time period, I remember not being able to feel things. I was a walking zombie. In addition, it made me a real airhead. I backed into my garage door before it was all the way up 3 (yes, 3) times, and during that period, I got two speeding tickets. The only time in my life that I was ever ticketed. Increased my insurance too!

Anyway, it didn't take me too long to realize that I was nothing more than a human in a shell when I was on the cocktail, so I weaned myself off of the pills.

I will never do anti-depressants again.

Give me mushrooms or weed, and I'm all about it. But not pharmaceuticals.

GravatarIsn't that a teletubby?

The purple one.

GravatarI just know I have no idea what it's actually like to be in Congress and have that responsibility.
Tena

I hear what you're saying and I'm sure you would be genuinely agonized over the decision.

But I'm cynical enough to believe that the majority of the Dem 'yes' votes did it for purely political and opportunistic reasons. Fredo was the unassailable 'war preznit' and the whole exercise would go off like Gulf War I, so in the end everybody would forget about it by 2004.

Gravatarthis is interesting:

Actor Bruce Willis is offering $1 million to any civilian who captures Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Dog the Bounty Hunter has said several times he'd love to find Osama.

GravatarWasn't Large Marge the Toodles troll?

GravatarYou've written us off? Hooray!! Go the fuck away then.

You moron - you contradict yourself in every fucking post.

GravatarYou think being military dq's one from leading the country?

After what I've just witnessed? Powell, for example?

I don't know enough about Clark to have an opinion. All I expressed was my amusement.

And as I keep saying, you're getting ahead of yourselves. I'm not committing to anyone at this point in time.

So I guess you must be working on the next Clark campaign, right?

GravatarNo, seriously, this toodles! thing

GravatarI have written you off, so have most of us.

Aw, darn it. Another Xmas card from the Free Republic I'm not gonna get this year.

GravatarI always love to read the comments of antiwar posters here who support a Clark nomination.

Clark. Military bred.

In theory, being "military bred" means actually understanding the consequences of war and why you shouldn't start one for no good reason. Which president warned about the dangers of the miltary industrial complex?

GravatarNo, seriously, help someone like me understand, pointy heads: why do you hate our president and our troops and our mission and God and love gays, drugs, immorality and communism so much?

I worked on the last, so I prolly will, yeh.

GravatarVicki - my dear, I'm with you. I hadn't even asked for anything and got both Prozac and that other one thrust at me by doctors.

I'm all for better living through chemistry, but I think we've been over doing it here for quite some time now.

Gravataryou keep losing because GOD cares about his children, and will not let evil prevail in the most free country on earth.

Religion is a smile on a dog.

GravatarThere's nothing more pathetic than reading a bunch of people bitch about shit they're completely ignorant of. Kerry said it was a mistake to trust Bush BEFORE the election last year. He's never said it was mistake to hold Hussein accountable and to use the threat of force to compel inspections, which his vote did do. You antiwar fucking pussies are so hellbent on using the IWR vote to destroy Dems that YOU YOURSELVES probably did as much in the last election cycle to put Bush back in office as anyone else.

Fuck all of you.

GravatarI've been out a while (watching the end of "Slap Shot" - forgot it was on), but it was pretty obvious from the beginning that "Mitzi" was a parody.

There's plenty of real brownshirts out there to get pissed at (though funny how they don't show up here nearly as often as they used to - wonder why???)...

Okay, now I know this is a parody.

GravatarActor Bruce Willis is offering $1 million to any civilian who captures Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Thanks for the empty gesture, Bruce. What's a million in your world, about $700 for everybody else?

GravatarWhat was his/her/its name back in

Karen Schell, transvestite.

Gravatar depressed? well, try being a starving sudanese rape victim.

That is such horseshit.
hamletta | 11.

i'm listening, hamletta. tell me why.

look, all i'm saying is that we're spoiled. fucking rotten spoiled. we're a bunch of well fed, well heeled, roof over our heads three squares a day type people who have it so good, we think that if we cry a couple of days a week or struggle with lonliness, we think we need a chemical.

for thousands and thousands of years, the most people had were plants and booze. somehow, the human race survived, and spread, and did things like invent the steam engine and paint the sistine chapel. we don't need the range of drugs we have today.

yes. yes. yes: some of us do. but not the number that the pharma reps would have you believe. ever look at the history of a disorder? ever compare the psych manuals from 1950, 1970, and 2000? ever notice how the list of "disorders" that "require" medication gets longer and longer every edition? every ask why that is, or why that only applies to countries where selling drugs is big biz?

you wouldn't tell an unhappy person to get do some meth to feel better. but if they did, they would feel better...for a while. and even if they didn't get hooked, they'd forever have to deal with the altered brain chemistry that results from many of today's mind altering drugs. mom sez that ambien is habit forming over the long term, and yet the ads all shout "isn't habit forming" and whisper "over short term use." who's really using it short term? a minority, i'd argue.

same deal with the speed they give "overweight" housewives or the mdma like anti-depression drugs; no one uses them for the short term. if they do, i'm not complaining. that's just not been my observation. start on one of these high powered chemicals, and have your body's chemistry altered for life.

no one defends crack, crank, meth, horse...and i promise you: junkies with money are the "happiest" people i know. and yet- i take such shit for saying to people, "why is you need prozac to get by, while a russian woman from the provinces who has to sell herself to eat somehow doesn't?"

drugs, and drug pushers, are all the same. good in short term small quantities, always with side effects often long term, never an answer for what's really bothering you. and always, always and forever- out for your money.

and i admit again: i speak from experience.

GravatarMitzi is ditzi. Maybe there is a good reason for drugs after all.

GravatarAngela (not a dyke)

That's Ok we still think yer aces!

ahem.

GravatarEveryone knows that GOD is on the side of a Repulican America.

Toodles!

GravatarHmm what I was pondering was the issue of impeachment. If things keep rolling, we will see a number of Republicans roll over and do the "I have seen the light" routine. It is their own survival. If leverage could be placed well, removal of Hastert and Stevens from succession and replacment with sane folks (I don't care what party at this point) would do one of two things. Either A. Impeachment of both the President and Vice-President could proceed. B. The fact that sane, level headed hands are waiting for the opportunity would be enough leverage to convince Bush and Cheney to play nice. Removal of the some of the secretaries would also enhance that situation and also allow quilified people to get in and start digging out the cesspool such as at the DOD.

GravatarGOD loves Sealand? Figures.

Heh, I talk about Sealand in my security classes all the time. Anybody read Cryptonomicon?

Gravatarpie, remember, Powell, as the only military person around, was the sole voice urging Bush to go slow into Iraq.

I'm not pro-military by any stretch, but I don't think there is any way you can blame the military for going to THIS war. It wasn't their idea.

GravatarDog the Bounty Hunter has said several times he'd love to find Osama.

UPN and WB development whores, are you listening?

dog flys into Karachi
dog hires translator
dog hirezs informants'

episode 36, dog's 4th round of informants are shot 47 minutes after leaving his office. dog's minions get their ransom paid, return with most appendages intact. new safehouse firebombed by the local mujahadeen.

sounds like the kind of reality show that could really put UPN on the map.

GravatarEdwards can go to hell. All of these Dinos, all of a sudden, becoming strong anti-war proponents only when public tide is also against the war is just more evidence that they still have no backbone. Sure, their stance happens to be the right stance now, but not because of any of their deeply held convictions. They knew damn well Iraq was no threat to the U.S.; they knew damn well the Bush cabal was manipulating intelligence to go to war. Now, these same spineless Democrats feign ignorance; feign being misled--bullshit! And because of this, Bush can now make the claims in his speech that he did about Democratic politicians supporting the war and it actually has some merit.

I'm just an ordinary Internet surfer, and I wasn't fooled by Bush and his lies. And from what I remember back before the illegal invasion of Iraq, the whole left blogoshere didn't buy any of the crap that the Bush cabal was pushing as the reasons to invade, either. It's just damn insulting when these Edwards get up and try and tell us they were fooled and they are sorry--a pack of damn lies!

GravatarI don't get the Wesley Clark thing either. Has he come out against the war?

GravatarBush had no choice but to lead us into war. The end of the world is coming, and Bush is the man God chose to lead us into it.

GravatarI agree with Phoenix Woman that Hillary isn't electable at this point. During the last election I thought that if Edwards had more seasoning he could be really formidable. He's smart (apart from his support for the war), terribly charming and folksy (something Kerry could never be), very telegenic (hey, it definitely helps), with that
all-American family behind him (no "bimbo eruptions" from him, one hopes), plus he's a Southerner. I think Hillary's smart but she'll have huge high negative numbers from the get-go. To win a national election, you can't just preach to the choir. You have to move and motivate undecided/independent/swing voters. Honestly, given her high negatives, I think she'd do much better to run for Vice President than to run for President. She'd have a much better chance of winning. That way she'd still give the Democratic ticket a needed boost of her name recognition and fundraising acumen, but the fact that she wasn't the top name would assuage some fears. Hillary went into the Senate and was quiet for a while, learning the job before she made a splash. If she did the same thing as VP, she'd have a much better chance to rise to the Presidential office with people thinking that she'd actually earned it. I think an Edwards-Clinton ticket would actually be pretty strong. She might never agree to be second banana, but my analysis still holds. I also think that Barack Obama will make great Presidential material someday, perhaps after being VP.

GravatarI am, you moral relativist!

All hail the new emperor.

that I think he's a really
an inept public speaker.

but he's barely as good on the stump

You don't understand clinical depression. There's nothing rational about it. It's certainly not a choice or something that can be cured by thinking happy thoughts. It's an inner Hell that cannot be described to those who've only suffered "the blues." It's debilitating and it can kill you.

Gravatarwe think that if we cry a couple of days a week or struggle with lonliness, we think we need a chemical.

This is all part of the worried well phenomenon that was discussed on a health care thread a couple days ago.

There is a subset of people in this country that truly believe one more test, or one more pill, will magically make their lives perfect...and eternal. And our healthcare system -- especially the pharmaceutical companies -- panders to those people.

GravatarI saw a cute bumper sticker advertised on some site: "Re-elect Al Gore in 2008"!

My first choice is Feingold, but the divorces, being Jewish, not being a Southern governor and a lack of charisma are all strikes against him. He isn't wooden though in the way that both Gore and Kerry seemed during their campaigns and he has a great sense of humor and an obvious concern/empathy that would show up well in the public spotlight. He's also damn smart and has alot of great ideas -- he plays well with others.

I think Warner is definitely the one to watch. He was on my radar during the last campaign and I was really thinking that Kerry should have picked him rather than one of his biggest opponents on the primary.

GravatarAs someone who worked in the mental health field cd has some good points. And so do others who have commented.

Anti-depressants can be a life saver for Chronically depressed folks. But it can take a while to get the right one at the right dose and should be done by a shrink. Even then frankly they are guessing.
Never go to a GP. They really don't have the experience.

And shrinks are influenced by big pharma. The drug reps are in their offices all the time givingall kinds of goodies out. Whenever a new drug came out then everyone prescribed it. Was really stupid.
And a single episode of depression may not require meds but they'll put you on them. Everyone I ever referred for a consult was placed on meds and I know there were some that prolly didn't need it.
So beware.

Except for Dover, PA.
Pat Robertson has shown us the light that all of the people in this town, including the thousands of christians who voted for republicans because the wanted ID in the schools, should rot in the hell that god is going to rain down on them any minute now.

Any minute now.

No.
Wait for it!

Here it comes.

Any minute now.

Fire raining down from god's ass.

Any minute now.

Just like Pat Robertson, ex-alcoholic who conceived his son out of wedlock, said.

Any minute now.

Raining fire on those heathens in Dover.

Wait.. here it comes!
Nope. Just birds shitting on some cars.
But the birds might be from hell!

Close enough for me! See God's vengeance has wrecked havok on the cars of Dover, PA!!!
Praise God!

GravatarTena

I understand that, the problem is what we receive will be as bad or worse unless there is a bit of creative reshuffling. And note my civics education is relatively poor and I also worked myself to death today, so I may be making a hash out of things.

Like in some corps, if the head of the body was determined a hazard, if the politics of situation did not allow removal, the board would basically turn the CEO or President into a handshaker only. I see this is a bi-partisan thing, for the sake of all, putting the Prez and VP out to pasture may be the only sane option at this point. Let the body get the job done until an effective leader is elected into office. The threat of impeachment with it's disclosures etc may be sufficient to neuter Bush and Cheney. Still not a great situation, but one in which momentum may be achieved.

GravatarWesley Clark to Josh Marshall, October 3, 2003

"CLARK: Well, we don't know why they chose to go to Iraq in the first place. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence, but even Paul Wolfowitz admitted that the weapons of mass destruction
issue was just the one issue that they could get most consensus on. Meaning, I suppose, that Colin
Powell would have had more difficulty arguing against it then, let's say, a visionary scheme to
transform the Middle East by playing hopscotch with military forces from country to country. So,
that's the first question, is, why did they do it? And secondly is, why then? Why, when? Why, at
that point in time, did they have to do that?

We don't know. And then you ask, well, when they took it to the United Nations, and when they
got UN Security Council Resolution 1441 passed, why, at that point, didn't George Bush ask Karl
Rove and say, "Karl. I've won the elections. I've done everything we wanted to do. [Inaudible] I'm
a great wartime leader. Tell me again, why do we have to invade Iraq? What's in it for us, as
America? Why can't we find another alternative? Why don't we just string this thing out? Let the
international community fumble with it --we've got them going. We could, you know, knock out
the critics and say, 'Look, I did go to the United Nations.'" You undercut the old whole
unilateralist approach [argument], you argue that you're only using force as a last resort, let the
half time play out. Why the rush? Don't know why.

TPM: You must have some sense.

CLARK: I think that it's really hard to understand it, but it goes back to the sort of doctrinaire,
rigid, ideological approach that the administration's following. When you're looking at the facts in
a pragmatic way, it was hard to construct the argument as to why you had to go in right away. It
was so hard that we couldn't persuade our allies to come in with us. We couldn't even persuade
the American people. Until it came time that the troops were actually there, and people said,
"Well, you know, you've got the troops there, how long are you going to hold them there, this is
getting embarrassing. Just go ahead and do it." At that point the polls started to raise--

TPM: So, sort of creating a situation [which] forced our hand on that.

CLARK: Exactly. I mean, the President went around, apparently, speaking around the country in
February and March. I didn't hear him, but the quotes I've seen from then suggest that he went
around saying, "If we're forced to go to war." Well, the only people that forced him to go to war
was his own advisors. They forced the situation and the timing of it. It defies a good explanation.
It needs to be -- it warrants an explanation. Even an investigation."

GravatarVicki - my dear, I'm with you. I hadn't even asked for anything and got both Prozac and that other one thrust at me by doctors.

My present doctor took over the practice six or seven years ago when his predecessor suddenly passed away. I used to say that I'd reached that threshold where your doctor seems like some "kid"; when I first met him, he looked like my 14-year old nephew in a lab coat.

I'd indicated on my questionnaire that I had a history of depression, and had sought treatment for it in the past. When my new doctor looked over my chart, he immediately offered to prescribe anti-depressant medication.

He gave me the little dumbed-down speech about biochemistry, without using terms like "synapse" or "neurohumor". He didn't press the issue, though, after I failed to express an interest.

But at the time I was naive enough to assume that one had to be adequately examined and evaluated from a psychological perspective in order to justify the necessity of meds. So I was surprised to find that if I'd said, "Yeah, Doc, now that you mention it, I am feeling a little blue" that I could've scored a scrip for Prozac or whatever.

Of course, they have a terrible time getting us paranoids from taking our "anti-paranoia" medicine, as they like to call it.

It's actually poison, you know.

GravatarI think the desire to artifically enhance our moods is a universal human thing. Every primitive society has their form of psychoactive substance.
Of course that's not the same as *needing* drugs just to get through the day.
They are way over prescribed, yet at the same time there truly are more people than ever who are clinically depressed.
The hormone thing is scary too. Women taking them because they can't face their body's natural aging process.

GravatarFor those saying 'too little, too late':

25 But his elder son was in the field; and when he came, and nighed to the house, he heard a symphony and a crowd.

26 And he called one of the servants, and asked, what these things were.

27 And he said to him, Thy brother is come, and thy father slew a fat calf, for he received him safe.

28 And he was wroth, and would not come in. Therefore his father went out, and began to pray him.

29 And he answered to his father, and said, Lo! so many years I serve thee, and I never brake thy commandment; and thou never gave to me a kid, that I with my friends should have eaten.

30 But after that this thy son, that hath devoured his substance with whores, came, thou hast slain to him a fat calf.

31 And he said to him, Son, thou art evermore with me, and all my things be thine.

32 But it behooved to make feast, and to have joy; for this thy brother was dead, and lived again; he perished, and is found.

Gravatarhe immediately offered to prescribe anti-depressant medication.

And they do it WRONG. Internists and GPs are (or were, a year or so ago) notoriously bad at prescribing clinically effective dosages. I get that depression can be physical, but it would be better if someone who was more specialized was doing the prescribing and the monitoring of effects.

Ya know how kids who take it can become suicidal? Well, I'm no kid, but being at 200 milligrams put me on the edge a sort of out of body experience. VERY odd. You become disconnected from yourself. It didn't cause me to become suicidal, but it is understandable how someone young could not handle this state of consciousness.

GravatarI spent all day in a workshop on the Jungian shadow. One thing the teacher said is that if you truly can't face your shadow, you become possessed by it. And think of how he simply can never admit that he made a mistake.

"Cheetos and handjobs for all my
men!"
-- old Roman saying

GravatarYou don't understand clinical depression. There's nothing rational about it. It's certainly not a choice or something that can be cured by thinking happy thoughts. It's an inner Hell that cannot be described to those who've only suffered "the blues." It's debilitating and it can kill you.
patriotboy | Em

respectufully, general: you shouldn't presume. i'm not going to list my "clinically depressed" creds here, but trust me when i say i do know a great deal about it. and the drugs. and the talk therapy. and the "to die for" moments. hahahahahah (drenched in blood, sacrifice, tragedy and bitterness) really, i do.

but i don't take the meds. i drink, occasionally too much. i smoke a joint when i can, again, occasionally more than i probably should. i've got family and friends, reasons and excuses. experiences and habits and problems. like most people. all i'm saying is that's normal.

can drugs "help?" yes. the bell curve means that for 10% of people, the extreme remedy is the "right" answer. in sex. in education. in medication. but is it the "right" answer for the ~40% of americans currently using some kind of mind altering medication? i say: fuck no.

look, here's my choice: get everyone to smoke a joint. seriously. i can't think of a better "drug" to help people relax, stop worrying, calm down, take a breath, and otherwise not freak out. but pot doesn't make enough people enough money. it doesn't cloud your brain and kill your ability to be balanced and also have critical thought when you need to. a lot of 'script drugs do. again- mom's a very, very experienced doc with a history of practising in urban, rural and suburban settings. we talk about this all the time. she's convinced me that 'script drugs are mostly for the purpose of making pharma money, and that 50-100 years ago, a doc who handed out such scripts as they do now would've been drummed out of the medical biz.

get high, get drunk, have sex, do what you've got to do. but don't forget that there are countless people (say, in iraq right now) who don't have that option. they not only survive, they live on to organize things like "terrorist" organizations and counter political groups which rise up and take action to change their environment. sitting around stoned all day may make you feel good, or less depressed, but it also takes away from you ability to really live. life is full of bile, pain, blood, hurt, heartbreak and bitterness. without those things there would be no joy, ecstacy, brilliance, creativity and epiphany. i want to live, not just coast thru this existence while the body lasts.

GravatarNext year we take back Congress.

GravatarFor my fellow Texans - Looks like the dumbest man on the planet may have got caught with his hand in the cookie jar:

WASHINGTON -- Former Christian Coalition director Ralph Reed claimed in a 2001 e-mail to a lobbyist that he choreographed John Cornyn's efforts as Texas attorney general to shut down an East Texas Indian tribe's casino.

The lobbyist was Jack Abramoff, who is under federal investigation, along with his partner Michael Scanlon, on allegations of defrauding six Indian tribes of about $80 million from 2001 to 2004. The e-mail, along with about a dozen others, was released last week as part of the investigation.

In 2001, Abramoff was working as a lobbyist for the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana to prevent rival gaming casinos from siphoning off its Texas customers. He paid Reed as a consultant, and Reed lobbied to get the Alabama-Coushatta and Tigua casinos closed in Texas.

In the Nov. 30, 2001, e-mail, Reed told Abramoff that 50 pastors led by Ed Young, of Second Baptist Church in Houston, would meet with Cornyn to urge him to shut down the Alabama-Coushatta tribe's casino near Livingston. He said Young would back up the request in writing.

Oh, that would make my day if that dumb fucker goes down.

Oh yes, please. Please give us somebody from Outside The Fucking Beltway.

I'll tell ya a freaky story about Zoloft.

I'd not heard that about Zoloft, only Prozac. Supposedly it removes inhibititions, so when a depressive is just starting to get better, but still maybe thinking suicidal thoughts, they're more likely to take action because they don't have that lack of motivation that comes with depression, and don't have the more healthy habits yet.

As far as needing--or wanting--a General in the WH, Ike was a good choice for a post-WWII America, and he probably could have had a third term, but for the FDR amensment. Like it or not, Homo Sap being the warlike cuss he is, a CINC with command experience is not ipso facto a bad thing. The current "Global War On Terror" has elements of a regular shooting war, which Clarke understands, and also elements of good ol' fashion police work, which I think he also understands, at least well enough that he knows you need spooks and detectivers, rather than tanks, ehich is nooance way past the current abministration. Kerry understood that, too, but lacked Clarke's experience.

GravatarWoman says pastor raped her in ceremony
Associated Press

FORT WORTH — A Fort Worth pastor was arrested on a sexual assault warrant after a church member said he raped her under the guise of casting out demons.

Leonard Ray Owens, 63, was arrested Friday after he went to police to give a voluntary statement. Owens, the pastor of Prayer House of Faith, has denied having sexual contact with the woman, police said.

The 22-year-old woman told authorities Owens raped her in July when she went to his home for counseling. According to an affidavit, the pastor told the woman she was afflicted by demons and instructed her to lie on the floor so he could cast them out of her body. She attempted to get up when he began removing her clothing, but he pinned her down, ignored her pleas to stop and assaulted her, the affidavit said.

After the alleged incident, the woman said Owens told her to wash her face and read a Bible passage.

Who knew Naomi Campbell had a sense of humor?

Oops. I might have committed a fallacy. She's hot, but I'm not sure she's funny. I'll need to do more, um...research.

GravatarFWIW, I asked Atrios straight-out if he was El Gato.

He denied it.

.

Gravatar Caroline dumped me for some acid-dropping cook named Willow.

Is that why you became a "homoe bitch" ?

GravatarDid anybody see yesterday on Tweety's show (I think) where they had the frontrunner for the GOP nom in '08 as Ghouliani.

Hillary would so kick is ass.
And I'm no big Hillary fan.

GravatarThe '08 candidate needs to come from outside Washington DC, I believe.
Max Planck

With the exception of Bush 1, most presidents recently have come from outside DC. Most have been governors, from Carter on down.

I wonder if that's why Corzine left the Senate for the State House.

GravatarOoh - I've just been told we're dining out. I even get a vote on the restaurant! And I've been chosen to be the designated drunk. (hmm. . . what do they want?)

Be smart. Be right. Be funny.

.

GravatarI get very paranoid around people. I just want to hide in a corner.

Just takes practice.

Hell I'll put myself into almost any situation will a head full of acid. Just to see what happens. Self-control is a pre-requisite though...

.

GravatarSaves.

GravatarOT --

Ocean's Twelve is on Cinemax later.

Is it worth watching?

GravatarEdwards may think this admission will enhance his 08 chances, but it will not. On the biggest decision of his 6-year public career, he blew it.
Nothing else matters. Also, he is a terrible campaigner; could not put away Cheney in the debate, when he had so many chances. Not quick on feet.
He will and should not get the 2008 nomination.

Gravatarhttp://www.clark04.com/issues/he...ues/healthcare/

Thanks for URL, Shycat. Now I know. It isn't good enough. Everybody should have the same coverage otherwise it is must more smoke and mirrors and bullshit. What about the street people. Until the most pitiful among us have real access to healthcare without so many complicated programs, it isn't any good. Federal Healthcare is a great program. Medicare on a universal basis would be okay, too. We need to stop dividing people with "programs" and paperwork.

Gravatar Heres a good enough reason not put conservatives in charge of every fracking gov agency.

Patent issued for anti-gravity device

"If you design an anti-gravity machine, you've got a perpetual-motion machine," Robert Park of the American Physical Society told Nature.

Park said the action shows patent examiners are being duped by false science.

An Anti Gravity machine would be so freeking cool. Too bad that will never happen in our lifetimes.

GravatarEdwards FUCKED UP by saying he voted "for the war." No, chump, you voted to give Bush the power to wage war, but only as A LAST RESORT. If you voted "for the war," right up front, then you knew something John Kerry didn't (see Kerry's careful, conditional 2002 remarks about his own vote), and also, you look like a complete ass.

Gravatar FWIW, I asked Atrios straight-out if he was El Gato.

He denied it.

I figured. That's why it HAS to be Mrs A. Because I want it to be.

GravatarI'm still smiling about Schwarzegrubber's butt-drubbing out here on the left coast this week.

Gravatarsheets...

Gravatar1watt.Secret Squirrel - Sorry, missed it (have been in and out).

Where is it at?

Gravataroh, and I hope to be casting out demons later tonight.

.

Gravatar If Reed/Abramoff choose to sing for reduced sentences, the whole Republican party could implode.

If Ralph Reed knows he's facing hard prison time, he would sing the nonexistent lyrics to Rach III, while simultaneously giving up every Rethug on Capitol Hill and reveal where Capone's real safe is, all while juggling on a unicycle.

Gravatarsimels ...

"Oceans 12" was all but un-watchable. And you know how I feel about George Clooney, so that's saying something.

GravatarBut have you seen the picture then. That is a killer look to have coming at you when you just screwed something up.

You ought to see and hear my better half. I'm 6'4" and 230. She's 5'1" and about 115.

She scares the shit out of me. And has for 27 years...

GravatarAs many have said, this could be a hundred times worse for the goopers than Plame. It's more like taking down the mob.

Well, who better to be in the mix than a Chicago lawyer?

And one of the reasons that the WSJ editorial board has gone berserk. It really has.

GravatarEdwards disappointed me in the debate with Cheney. He let Cheney be a dick to him and didn't to anything about it. He needs more years on him. I like Boxer and I'm liking Durbin. Durbin looks like a middle class white guy and I think he could appeal to folks in the rust belt.

GravatarGuiliani will be the Repug candidate
for President on the same day
frozen yogurt goes onsale in hell.

Ditto Condi.

Ditto McCain.

I have no idea what troglodyte they
will run, but forget those three.

GravatarDon't do it Simels, you will never get that hour and a half of your life back.

GravatarEdwards FUCKED UP by saying he voted "for the war." No, chump, you voted to give Bush the power to wage war, but only as A LAST RESORT

Everybody with more than two brain cells knew that the vote was for the war. There's no point in playing semantics.

.

That bad?

Wow!!!!

Gravatari still admire Clark for going around the country trying to get democrats elected in 2006. is edwards doing this, too? no snark-- that is an honest question.

Gravatar"I'm 6'4" and 230. She's 5'1" and about 115.

She scares the shit out of me. And has for 27 years..."

It always seems to work out that way for some reason. I have seen that happen with more couples.

Gravatar Caroline dumped me for some acid-dropping cook named Willow.

Is that why you became a "homoe bitch" ?

No, that's just why I've been doing a lot of...stroganoff.

An Anti Gravity machine would be so freeking cool. Too bad that will never happen in our lifetimes.

I've got one in my basement. I can't figure out how to market it, though.

GravatarThe good thing about Edwards saying this publicly is that it has now been spoken out loud. We as a country need to talk about this. The sooner the better.
-

Gravatarbeloved aquatigre: please, let me know when you're next available, and we'll search together for the right bud for you. there are so many good, ahem, kinds out there-not all of them make you paranoid.

that's the beauty of plants: some people like roma tomatoes, some beefsteak, some italian. but in the end, there's a tomato product out there everyone can love. i've got the hook up, call me when you're next in the midwest.

GravatarIt's a pretty bad movie, and I liked the other one.

Gravatari'd like to see gary hart run in 08. don't know if he has any intention to or not. i think hart/ clarke would be a good ticket.

Gravatarres ipsa:

Man, then it must suck big time.

Harumph.....

GravatarHillary would so kick is ass.
And I'm no big Hillary fan.
HoneyBearKelly?

I'm not so sure about this. I think Giuliani would arouse a lot of 9/11 emotion. Although IIRC he's pro-choice, so that could drive off the emotionally retarded.

She could whip Condi's ass with both arms cut off, but there's not a chance in hell they'd actually run her.

They're pretty short on likelies, though, aren't they? Who wants this crowd hung around their neck?

Gravatarhbk- essential mix radio one and i go a looong way back. thanks!

creamfields 1999 new years party: best live set (other than hybrid "live angle") ever in the history of humanity. i weep for those days' loss.

GravatarSwear to god, I've always thought
there was something sexy about
Billie Burke.

Not necessarily as Glinda, but
just generally.

Feel free to back away from me
slowly.....

GravatarMan, then it must suck big time.

As a certain DICK we know would say,

"Big time."

I'm looking forward to "Syriana." George wears the extra 30 lbs. well.

Gravatar"I'm not so sure about this. I think Giuliani would arouse a lot of 9/11 emotion. Although IIRC he's pro-choice, so that could drive off the emotionally retarded"

I think some of his statements from the Republican convention and shortly after this last round might be the end of him. He came across as something between love struck and insane.

Gravatar"If Reed/Abramoff choose to sing for reduced sentences, the whole Republican party could implode."

Wow! Wouldn't that be a gift to humanity everywhere?

GravatarAlso, he is a terrible campaigner; could not put away Cheney in the debate

Didn't, but I think could have. Maybe the Dems are going to be more aggressive next time. Maybe not. I'm not advocating for Edwards in particular, but I'm really hoping the recent display of Spalls (tm, who, agave?) indicates that at least some Dems are ready to hit back.

Oh Yes!! That is a good one.

You probably got all excited by her as a little kid. Now that erotic memory is lodged in your DNA.

Gravatar1watt - Found your link to Abramoff. That's quite a story. I said five years, this guys apparently been at it for more like twenty years.

For anybody interested in some history on Abramoff -

GravatarSaving Private Ryan, that masochistic, ungodly, fear inspiring devestating, hated by the right wingers, movie is in TNT.

Gravatarwith hart and clark, there would be no chatter about "voting for the war in iraq". neither of them did. of course neither voted against it either.

Gravatari think hart/ clarke would be a good ticket.

Ditto.

Also, SS - I agree on Billie Burke. She was a doll as Glinda (sorry res), and was not a spring chicken at that point.

Hell, the Wizard of Oz is atill amazing. Acting, music, sets, costumes.

I am never bored by it.

Gravataredwards was a big zero for our hero-- i will never forgive or forget that, he was nowhere and said nothing. we need someone who wants to win and will do what is necessary to win. by 08 the rethugs will have declared iraq a democracy and left only people who will keep our hands on the tools of oil production...

GravatarBut have you seen the picture then. That is a killer look to have coming at you when you just screwed something up.
EkCenTriK

well of course. i'm a picture dude, how do you think i made my determination that, that is one wise black feline.

i'm perfectly fine not knowing, but when you click on the pic it says ducan black as an identifier. my grey cat steve, who looks like wiley, he is large and aggressive, but dumb as a post. his sister tai, reminds me of el gato negro, she is black and 8 pounds of the smartest cat i've ever seen. i call her the brains of the operation.

Gravatar Saving Private Ryan, that masochistic, ungodly, fear inspiring devestating, hated by the right wingers, movie is in TNT.

I thought about popping in the DVD just a little while ago, but I'm watching Band of Brothers instead.

GravatarI don't know about anti-depressants,
but when I was younger I kind of
liked valium.

Got any 'ludes?

Those were the days!

GravatarPS Hillary/Obama 08, 12; Obama/??? 16,20...

GravatarGot any 'ludes?

Those were the days!

I always liked blue-ringers.

GravatarCan't read a whole 800 comment thread, but Mr. edwards give me a Tony Nlair vibe that I just can't shake. Too smooth and clever by half.

Gravatar"gives me a Tony Blair vibe.."

Gravatari'll take the roma the beefsteak and the italian, tho i tend towards the afghanistan.

watched an interesting speaker today. afgahni imigrant, dr., married to an afghani lawyer, wrote 'running with kites', today after being disgusted with chalabi's AEI snowfest. what a fck'n pig. of course i mean chalabi.

GravatarI think the botton line for the dem's in 2008 is that they run someone who was opposed to the war from the getgo. This would eliminate Kerry, Clinton, and Edwards among others.

GravatarI'm sorry but the solution for the Democrats is obvious. Every sorry-ass who voted for this travesty needs to step aside for the good of their party and their country. Let someone else run in their place next year. The ones that take their places might lose name recognition but they will have integrity in spades and it will become a party issue. A vote for the Democrats is a vote against the war and Bush. Simple.

GravatarI'm pissed at them all, too. What a bunch of wimps to be pushed around by Rove et al. Some of us looked at them then and thought, "What the fuck are they doing voting for this shit?" Course, we were just a bunch of fringe loonies who thought the chimpster & colin were lying about WMD shit. For the dems, now, hindsight is 20/20. If "Oh, they lied to us" is going to be their mantra now, they can kiss 2008 goodbye.

One thing, though, that will work in their favor is the timing of the Scooter's conviction/trial. This will be totally out of the dems' hands (thank god, cuz they could fuck that up, too). Right around election time, Scooter is going to get fucked like a bear in a cage with Fitz's big stick. Fitz is going to control that public screw job...not Rove. And it will be thrilling to see.

GravatarEdwards' suggested apology is step 10 of the "10-Point Plan on Iraq."

GravatarI'm too late for the antidepressant discussion, but I'm with patriotboy on this topic. A clinical depression is to the ordinary downs of life as tuberculosis is to having a few sniffles. Anyone who has had the first would never confuse the two, and going on antidepressants does not, I repeat, does not make a person happy like drink or drugs might. The antidepressants just give a normal life, with the normal happy and sad times. Without them what you have is an existence in a cold and sere hell where nothing moves and nothing feels except some sort of general air of despair, but even that is so dry and cold and crackly that it doesn't much matter.

GravatarLet's let this be the first. I think something like RFK in the 60's is starting w/ Edwards. We'll see.

GravatarI think Giuliani would arouse a lot of 9/11 emotion. Although IIRC he's pro-choice, so that could drive off the emotionally retarded.

No way in hell.

The fundies would never go for it.

GravatarI'm not surprised. This is our guy. I can give it to you a thousand ways but it is him now. Get over it, as they say.

GravatarIt takes a real person of honor to say I AM SORRY-I WAS WRONG
If Bush were to say this though he would be impeached...so Bush is in a corner that
is getting tighter and tighter with every solders death.

I think what Edwards may have missed is the
absolute hysteria America went through after 9-11
at the urging of Bush & Cheney.
They had my Grandmother
looking for Al-Qaeda under her bed.
A great time for Fox news...a bad time for world peace.

The Democrats really didn't have a choice but to go along
with the President. They are representatives of the people, and the people
wanted the war ( lets blow up some Arabs...any will do)...

2002-03 was a time of fear mongering for political gain.
The Bush crowd HAD to march into Iraq...why?
Will we ever know?
The Bush Era of bait and switch...terror threats and slogans
is over...even for Republicans.

GravatarThis all happened because congress long ago gave up its constitutional authority to declare war, and gave it over to the executive.

GravatarIf I remember, Edwards wrote a super-pro-Iraq War OpEd for the Washington Post. He was proud of his vote; he was VERY pro war.

Its not enough. Edwards is still a turd and a fake. He doesn't apologize for all the horror and death and maiming that his war brought to the Iraqis. He's still doing the phony-man crap "patriot" shtik with his fretting only about dead and wounded US armed forces.

GravatarWow.

I'm not the biggest Edwards fan, but I'm listening.

GravatarActually I thought Edwards did quite well in the debate against Cheney. It was Kerry who took his foot off the gas after a pretty good first debate.

GravatarI now blow dead bears and goats for only $1. I've diversified!

GravatarSo, is our Mitzi-troll the woman from Louisiana who was on that wife-swapping show this week and went into total psychotic meltdown? I thought I'd seen that act before.

Hahahaha. The next Omarosa.
