I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

hah!

On your knees?

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Bush presidency: FIERY WRECK!

Wow! Numero Dos,

Oooh, feud!

I love Kos too.

Why?

Just . . . Kos.

GravatarKos is kinda' the father of this thing we call the blogosphere.
.

GravatarWhile the Kossacks are a bit humourless and the site is a bit difficult to navigate, I don't want an internets without Markos et al.

.

GravatarKos, Atrios, First Draft, Pandagon, and Josh Micah Marshall. It's what's for dinner.

GravatarWhat the hell brought all this on?

Kos is kos, booman is booman and Atrios is neither of those.

That's what makes it all great.

Gravatarmy point is that if not for Markos I'd be in line for more of this kind of stuff (not booman's post itself but the comments)

GravatarI eat what filkertom eats!

Hi filkertom! Everyone's sick, so no plans for the weekend!

GravatarMarkos takes a lot of shit. I've had an account over there for as long as there has been registration. I still read him every day, and I peruse the diaries.

But where do I come for my bloggy goodness? Where do I come to make friends?

Eschaton. It just isn't for hip people anymore.

Gravatarfilkertom sez:

Kos, Atrios, First Draft, Pandagon, and Josh Micah Marshall. It's what's for dinner.

Well said.

As for Pandagon, I miss Jesse. But I've long had a crush on Amanda.

.

Gravatar Kos, Atrios, First Draft, Pandagon, and Josh Micah Marshall. It's what's for dinner.
filkertom

Thank you so much, filker, and you too, Vicki. That's so nice.

I still read Kos from time to time, but I don't bother with the comments at all. Don't even open them.

Don't want to get into this, either. Kos has done a lot of good stuff, and that's true whether I always agree with him or not.

GravatarGreat links - great diaries almost every day - congress critters and the occasional Senator also post at kos - dissent better be polite or it is flamed -

Best site in the blogosphere right and left

if it didn't exist we'd have to invent it - essential to the cause I believe

GravatarEschaton. It just isn't for hip people anymore.

And a morning meal of Atri'Os keeps you regular!

.

GravatarI agree about the humorlessness of the Kossacks -- of course they refer to the Atriots as the clowns -- I still check dKos daily (not like living here, however)

GravatarOh spork, come on....I think the susans and sharon Jumper and Dood are great to converse with.

However, it's hard to find humor in Bush's incompetence, or in the horror and depravity of Chimpy War in Iraq, or the American Gulag, most notably the new revelartions about the "Bush's Buchenwald of the Balkans" at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.

I don't find humor in that, just disgust.

Now humor, now that's Wolcott, Rude Pundit and you sometimes!

GravatarBTW -- I am also a partisan Democrat -- like kos

Gravatar...and it keeps arseholes from flaming Atrios?

You don't actually pay attention to criticism or dirty little notes from that portion of the great unwashed that's also uneducated do you?

Gravatar(Waves to Prior A.)

linky/cite, please? Don't pay as much attention to that part of the world anymore, and so miss alot. Thanks!

Gravatarkossaks comprise a sizable audience willing to volunteer for most anything the Dems need. A valuable resource.

Gotta' be willing to stand up to the PCism though - just a fact of life over there.

GravatarNow humor, now that's Wolcott, Rude Pundit and you sometimes!

Rude Pundit has a sword; Wolcott has a scalpal.

.

GravatarFair's fair, and even steven and without Kos there'd be no A's and there'd be no Us.

Truth.

GravatarHey spork!

Had any more incidents?

GravatarGOP APPROPRIATION BILL BIG VICTORY FOR BIN LADIN

Bin Ladin is a smart and patient man. His objective is to beat us but the strategy is not to do battle with guns and bombs or fly planes into all our buildings. He knows full well that can’t happen. His objective as articulated on multiple occasions by the man himself is to bleed us.

He knows the more resource we spend on this war in Iraq, Afghanistan and the “war on terror” in general, the weaker we become. He knows the more we spend on this folly the further we go into debt and less we spend on education, health care, infrastructure and government sponsored technological R&D. And he knows this is a path that can only end in a weakend United States.

This appropriations bill cuts all the things that we need to be a strong country in the future in no small part to pay for this folly in Iraq. According to some, it has already cost us damn near a whole city. When informed the funds for maintaining the leveys in New Orleans were being cut, the city officials were told by the Bush administration official the reason was that money came from the same part of the budget that was paying for the war in Iraq and as a result the money was simply not there. We’re losing entire cities over this already… and we’re only three years in.

Bin Ladin should thank Allah every day for Republicans. Who knows, perhaps he does.

GravatarSword vs scalpal....

Hi spork, I thought it was chainsaw on Rude's part.

Atrios puts up catchy titles and his Bobo's World and "Heh-indeedy" posts can be hilarious or sad, or both at the same time.

I just read one from Hunter over at Kos about "Adam's Apple Annie" latest bluster and the possible cat fight on the right between Coulter and Malkin, but I would advise Coulter to not get involved, as its wrong for a guy to hit a woman, even if transgendered.

Spork, the humor is in the postings, and Eshaton has some damn good humor.

blogs I like for humor: Rude Pundit, Jesus' General, Roger Ailes, James Wolcott, Sadly, No, You and Attaturk when he's on a blog posting tear. there are others too, but I can't remember them all offhand.

GravatarThere are three simply Must Reads.
Altercation, DailyKos, Eschaton, and Talking Points Memo. Four. Four must reads. And Joe Conason, anytime he's anywhere online.
That's five, I guess, isn't it.

GravatarOK, I was too busy masturbating for peace back then, I guess, but what happened between Kos and Booman anyway?

FWIW, I get too depressed to read ANY blogs for days at a time, but when I do the only ones I really frequent are Atrios (lucky you) and BartCop. Kos never fired me up,which is not criticism of Kos, not everyone likes asparagus either. I am sort of liking BooMan lately. And Digby.

GravatarI, for one, don't spend much time at dKos anymore for a couple of reasons: (1) It feels as if the average mental age of the place has gone from over 30 to about 20. (2) Armando.

GravatarMe too. Even when I don't agree with Kos or Armando or whoever. But I agree with them a LOT more than most other people. Long live dailykos.

And Eschaton.

And Steve G.

And John A

And digby

And billmon

And... well, need I go on?

(Oh yeah, and attafuckingturk)

GravatarI sort of have a sequence, here, then kos, then josh marshall, then kevin drum (who really is humorless), then Talk Left, then Steve Gilliard, then Tbogg and World of Crap, and can sort of circle around this all night, until my eyes are bleary. I hit Orcinus too, when I feel like getting really depressed.

Each blog has strengths. Digby has been doing some incredible writing lately.

I don't always agree with everyone all the time, but mostly. Being fallible, I'm not about to get pissed off and I can't quite figure out what was going on on the place Atrios linked.

GravatarJesus General and Rude Pundit are inspirational.

GravatarCan't believe nobody mentioned Juan Cole as a Regular Must Read?? Now with Comments, as it happens....

Of course nobody mentioned corrente as an RMR either but it would be immodest to pout audibly about that.

[pouts silently between bouts of piteous weeping]

GravatarI don't like Kos. He does good work for some candidates, but I don't agree with a lot of things Kos posts.

His little band of regulars also gives the tone to the blog - Jerome's daily attempts to scare us about one thing or another, the on-going feuds with Armando and everyone else, etc - isn't much to my liking.

And, misspell a word over there, and you can get troll rated! It's like the land of the stark raving mad blue staters. I try to stay away

GravatarKos is a lot of things, but "PC" isn't one of them. Haven't been over there since he let me know that my kind (i.e. the tedious women's studies set) weren't welcome.

That and the fact that the people on that site would have Dems give up every party principle in the interest of winning elections.

GravatarI read the Kos front page.

I stay out (for the most part) of the "comments" sections.

Kos (himself) is a little too straight-edged for me, frankly, but I get pretty tired of the people dissing him.

I do, however, think in 20 years, he'll be the internet left's version of Norman Podhoretz...

GravatarHey, Vicki & Tena & everyone else! I posted that little drive-by, and then suddenly had something drop on my lap that I just now got done with. And I've got a few things to do now. I'll spend some more time later this week. Happy rest-of-Thanksgiving weekend to you all!

GravatarWhile the Kossacks are a bit humourless and the site is a bit difficult to navigate, I don't want an internets without Markos et al.

Oh my, try navigating this site. A quagmire loaded with landmines. Very good and very interesting, but do not try to penetrate. (how funny, I know).

GravatarKossacks humorless? I don't really agree with that, but chacun a son gout. In addition to sites alread mentioned, (here, talkingpointsmemo, steve g., for e.g.), lately I've also been checking out Crooks and Liars.

Gravatarratings there... the supposed scandal of booting the idiots who want to wear foil and claim no jet hit the pentagon...

he had to cleanhouse, ratings helps to an extent... still you have to watch out for ratfuckers

here we let it roll, mano e. mano, we craft the best response to talking points... we sanitize the spin in a really fun way

bring. it. on.

both are tremendouse resources to better discourse

Diaries are fun to put in for dkos. This reader prefers some record of statements and haloscan has vanishing posts, but it is faster paced and lends itself to better heat of the moment exchanges. SUch is the necessary element for alchemic reaction to develop response with.

We shape the steel of subject matter with the fire of open words. Hammer away the trolls, and from lake Eschaton the lady will wield to us a sword of legendary sharpness with which we can beat back those crusaders who wither at Truth's standard.

GravatardKos humorless? Ummmm, does the Koufax-winning feature Cheers & Jeers ring any bells?

Led by the weapons-grade snark of Bill in Portland Maine, C&J features smartass luminaries such as Eddie Haskell, wry twinger, PBen, PhillyGal, and a supporting cast of hundreds of snark slingers (including me).

Add in the hilarity of Dood Abides' satirical news stories, Hunter's excellent and often uproarious rants, and you have a pretty strong humor contingent on dKos.

I agree that the bulk of the site can be a bit dry -- though incredibly informative. You have to look for the humor, but it's there.

GravatarThe truth:

Kos is a tool, a faux-progressive who probably hurts more than he helps.

Kos is a combination of Howard Dean and Paul Hackett: not really a progressive, but for some reason progressives seem to think he is.

Remember the 'war pragmatist' post? Remember the banning of anyone who dared to talk about voter fraud?

I am ashamed that Kos is the most prominent 'liberal' blog. We can do much, much better.

GravatarMeh.

GravatarSuicide Squad Leader: We are the Judean People's Front crack suicide squad! Suicide squad, attack!
[they all stab themselves]
Suicide Squad Leader: That showed 'em, huh?

GravatarKos was the first political blog I visited, and I still read it every day. But it's gotten a little too "clubby" for my taste.

Kos used to be a Republican, and he's actually pretty conservative, especially on social issues. I suspect he became a Democrat because he likes fighting as an underdog, and that's where the Democrats were when he started becoming politically active.

He's still fairly young, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see him switch back to the GOP side in about 20 years.

---

Ehh, maybe not. I was quite conservative in my youth (raised in Tulsa and Houston, joined Reagan's Cold War Army right out of high school, etc.), but was ignorant. The more I've learned, the more I've drifted leftward. I still have longtime prejudices and hotbuttons left over from the bad old days, but those are slowly but surely wearing down.

It could be a similar process with kos; the older he gets, the more left he drifts.

Gravatarwas asked by a party GOP Chair by the name of Bush to join the rep party after working polls out of high school...

hard to justify such a move when Bush Sr just pardoned his son for Billions from an S&L collapse...

GravatarOn Election Day, I was hanging with an upstate NY Dem county judge candidate, after making GOTV calls up until 8:30 EST.

Knowing that this was not the most important race that night, I suggested logging on to Kos to see what was happening in NJ and VA.

He hadn't heard of Kos, but when he logged on, there it was -- the NJ and VA governor results.

I commented that it looked like a big Dem night, and it was. He won the judge race by 14 points, in a 3-2 Republican county.

He became a judge that night, and he also became a Kossack.

GravatarYou mean, Markos "screw them" Moulitsas. Get it right.

GravatarI popped in to Kos one night to discover an advisory that if I objected to the interests of my half of the population being dismissed as trivial I should go read some of those better blogs out there. Haven't been back since.

GravatarIs there anything more tedious than a bunch of little people whining about the king of liberal blogs?

GravatarI imagine there are things more tedious, yes, although admittedly such a discussion is not likely to be a barn-burner.

GravatarI don't want that kind of creepy commitment to feign agreement when it's not there ..and maybe it's just me..but who has time for feuds between people on the same side?

William Buckley, Norman Mailer, and Gore Vidal..now those guys knew how to feud. But even they got boring after awhile.

Josh Marshall
Atrios
Alterman
Digby

Every day.

Love TBogg and Wolcott for humor.

Best of some excellent people, for me.

(Um..not that anyone asked.)

GravatarIt's hard to decide--who is more obnoxious, pretentious, officious, and bad for the world, Kos or Atrios?

My money is on Kos. Atrios is a really big asshole. But Kos is a REALLY big asshole.

Gravatarum, hi.

I think the following: I think that attacks should be strategic. How does attacking dKos further your goals? Wouldn't the left be better off attacking those who are working to destroy the left? I think positions like Dadahead are so ridiculous as to be dimissable out of hand. More harm than good? Completely ridiculous. Akin to those on the left attacking Michael Moore. This is my question: Why? Is Kos really worse than Ann Coulter? Is Michael Moore worse than George Bush? No, obviously. Then why, for the love of God, as a leftist, spend even one moment attacking those who, if victorious, would move american and world politics closer to your ideals?

"Closer to your ideals."

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. That is, in my opinion, the primary reason that the left is not as powerful as the right: because many leftists reserve their best ammunition for shooting members of their own team. Where "own team" is not defined by "those who have precisely identical ideological goals as me" but "those who, if victorious, would move national and world politics closer to my ideological goals."

There's no alternative, here. Your precise set of ideological goals will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER be implemented as a whole. Never. If you are attacking the most convenient targets who are working to similar, but not identical, goals, then you are not a leftist, because leftists are trying to work toward building the left. If you are attacking anything that differs slightly from your ideological goals, then you are building nothing, and you are working only to destroy. Therefore, you are no leftist. You are a nihilist.

Gravatar"I do not believe for a moment that Kos is a progressive. He's a Democrat. He's quite open about it. And he's openly hostile to many progressive causes, including reproductive rights, environmentalism, election reform and feminism."

That was posted by "MediaGirl"

I have but one comment. What planet is she on, and what site has she been reading?

Or is she just one of those lefties at the back of the coffee house, lamenting the fact that the stirrers aren't made of recycled wood, and condemning all coffee drinkers as tools of the imperialists?

GravatarSpeaking as someone mauled at the website for presenting evidence and attempting to make a case (immediately obvious, if one only looked at the photographs) -- and finally banned from the site, I can only say that Kos is the scum of the world.

GravatarMr. Morrison, the towers were brought down by the airliners. You're a nut.

GravatarI've been reading the blogs for about 4 years. I stopped commenting at Kos a long time ago when I got ripped up by hamletta one night. I have a "thin skin" and took it personally. Heat, kitchen, out.

I've been wandering around like the ghost of internets past ever since. I will comment once in a while on the smaller blogs, even send then some money occassionally. But as a 50 year old woman, I don't handle being ferociously hammered by anybody at any time for any reason.
