Joe Dante is the movie equivalent of a band like XTC - he's responsible for some brilliant work that should have been massively popular, but the masses just ignore it. Gremlins 2 (Sorry, Joe, couldn't stand the first one, must be the Chris Columbus connection), Innerspace, the totally brilliant Matinee. . . where were the audiences?

I had to watch Homecoming twice just to pick up on how great it really was. Not just the obvious hits on Coulter and Rove, but some of the more subtle touches (notice how the older brother wasn't buried at Arlington - foreshadowing!) The way in which Dante and Sam Hamm subvert the expectations arising from nearly forty post-Night of the Living Dead years. . . genius.
Props to Showtime for scheduling it during their free weekend!
