the child died shortly thereafter.

We managed to piss off the Bush administration big time this last few days! All started when the organisers of the global warming conference invited Clinton at the very last minute and your government threated Canada to walk out if Clinton talked, Canada called the bluff and Clinton talked and they had to back off! Cool. Let's humiliate some more the Bush govt!

That Fitzgerald doesn't issue any further indictments until, say, the end of January.
That Abramoff flips, finally, about the middle of February and that indictments of Congress Critters hit about the middle of March.
That will put us well into the election season where the bad news will cripple the Resident's agenda.

ah yes, "the oil will pay for the war!"
By JIM KRANE, Associated Press Writer
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Despite President Bush's optimism on Iraq's reconstruction, the country appears set to pump less crude in 2005 than last year's disappointing showing and far less than under Saddam Hussein.
The only bright spot for Iraq's oil sector, hampered by unrelenting insurgent attacks on its infrastructure, is that near-record oil prices have softened the blow by boosting export earnings.
"The general integrity of Iraqi oil infrastructure appears to us to be heading backwards rather than forwards," London-based Barclay's Capital said in a report issued Thursday.
The attacks have made it all but impossible to attract foreign expertise needed to rejuvenate Iraq's rusty oil infrastructure, drill new wells or take any number of steps toward increasing production or exports.
Legal disputes between Iraq's provinces and central government about ownership of oil is also keeping investors away, said Jamal Qureshi, an oil analyst with PFC Energy in Washington.
"Iraq has a lot of potential, but lots of things have to go right," Qureshi said. "We see no sign of that happening."
Sorry about your dad. Haven't seen the attrikitties for a few weeks.

I never did get the "their oil will pay for our invasion of them" theory. If someone invaded the USA could they take Exxon's oil to pay for it? Could they seize all of Haliburton's assets, sell them on the international market, and then use the profits to pay for their cost of invading us? Would we think that was just great or would we think they stole stuff cuz they invaded us? Isn't it a lot like when the Chinese charge the family of the executed person for the bullets?

Question: does anyone here know exactly what corporate positions the Bushco ppl held before becoming the Chimpy Presidency Team?
You see, all Dubbyah's 'positions' have been essentially ceremonial ones - handshaking, being the company 'public face' - more-or-less, W has always been in public relations.
And the thing is, it looks to me like all the Team must be from the PR department. In public relations, success is measured by only one thing: are nice things being said about you? If so, you are a success, and the performance of the company as a whole is otherwise irrelevant to you.
Looking at the overall way Bushco behaves, they must all be PR flacks. Costs don't matter to them, so they aren't accountants. Productivity is not an issue, so they aren't engineers or quality managers. Their underlings don't have to do their jobs with any competence, so they aren't from any sort of managerial background.
All these things are irrelevant to them. But, say one thing in public that isn't 'nice' for them - especially if it's true - and the whole machine swings into well-oiled action, to counter, drown out, and punish the speaker.
Can anyone tell me if the corp experience of Cheney, Rice, etc might be in the PR department?
the thing is, there's no logical reason whatsoever for gas to have gone to $3...they said at the time it was because oil was at $60 per bbl...but of course it's near $60 per bbl now and it's $1 less then it was......
i'm thinking the oil companies exploited the hurricanes which gave them convenient cover to raise prices as far as possible till public outrage forced bush to tell his oil pals to back off. fortunately for them, prices had topped $3/gal; the sheeple are thrilled to see prices drop under that psychological barrier and will think things be just gonna be fine.

You're right Atrios.
It was 39% so now Bush is up at 40% WOW, some tick up.
All the media is in lock-step, even PBS Newshour and Washington Week - they all said the Bush's numbers are up - because of the economy - the gas prices down - but just two week ago the credit card industry complained that credit cards were paid late by huge percentages nationwide - blamed on the over charges at the gas pump.
So big oil cut back for the retail industry to try and make some cash for holiday season. Right after Christmas - we know that big oil is waiting to price gouge again.
The media is owned by corporate control and STILL they insist the news has changed and reporting is better then ever - that's a lie - Judy Miller was a Bush kiss-ass the same why Woodard is - the same way Washington Post and NYT management were not offended one bit by this kiss-ass practice.
Don't let anyone tell you there is nothing wrong with news these days - it's so obvious that most reporters are nothing more that Whitehouse damage control.
Cheryl |
12.10.05 - 11:23 am | #
In fact - I'm suprized Dana Priest has not had to apologize for her latest article that surely offended Condia Rice.
Last night on Washington Week - Dana Priest showed herself to be nothing more than a coward. The press stood up to Joe McCarthy but can't do the same now.
It doesn't matter what Bush adminstration does the press will never blow the whistle - never do anything about it - no matter how ugly this administration gets.
That's why we need Partick Fitzgerald - because the press isn't doing it job. I'd like to see a few more jounralist do jail time because they are hiding from the Bush administration behind their proposed sheild law. A sheild law would protect them from having to report on the Bush administration.

Being a betting man, I bet the number of Republicans was adjusted or weighted to achieve that rise in popularity. For example, the number of people who might have identified themselves as Republicans six months ago has probably dropped. Those who aren't ashamed of being associated with the scandal plagued Republicans are probably getting a higher multiplier to make up some bogus "representative" sample.

A "bump" from 37 to 42 may in fact mean nothing, or very little, depending on the error margin. In most polls it is at least 4%. That would mean a 37% rating could be anywhere from 33-41. So a 42% rating could be anywhere from 38-46. His rating could actually have gone DOWN from 39% to 38%!
robthehearthrob |
12.10.05 - 12:40 pm | #
The price of gas fell. People are spending money for the holidays. The economy is superficially up. So a whopping 42% think Bush isn't so awful. That is going to change, and soon.
I would like to hope that the economy is actually in good shape, but with these deficits, and spending almost a billion a day (yep; it's north of 5B a week) in the New Democratic Republic of Iraq, such hope is probably unrealistic.
Bush's popularity will be sub-30% by the 2006 elections. Gas is going to $4 a gallon (I saw it there the Thursday after Katrina in Baltimore). Rove will be indicted. Things in New Orleans are going from bad to worse.
By the way, Lieberman's growing radioactivity is described at some length on the front page of today's New York Times.

I suspect that the 42% "surge" in popularity is temporary. At best, it will only last until the next major disaster or policy failure. And we can be sure there will be another disaster or failure of governance in the coming months, given the level of incompetence and dishonesty in this administration. (Then, of course, there'll likely be further developments in the Fitzgerald investigation.)
As someone said, you can fool all of the people some of the time...
