Here are my problems with Lieberman and his apologists such as the Bullshit Moose, who constantly reminds, but fails to convince, everyone or anyone of his own maturity.
This is Marshall Witless demonstrating his maturity:

I love the "maturity" of people that SERIOUSLY (as opposed to as a joke) refer to themselves in the 3rd person.

I'm not a religious jew but consider myself to be more of an "ethnic" jew if that makes sense. While my religious beliefs border on agnosticism, I still have ties to my jewish heritage and as a 'people' I support them and their right to exist. People like holy joe and the neo-cons put israel and the biblical view of it first and foremost BEFORE their own country and interests. As if the theocrats and the dominionists care about if israel exists 1 day after their so-called rapture (which will never come) It is the survival of israel that the fundies (non-jew and jew alike) crave if only because they believe it is essential for their messiah to return. So the neo-con/zionist jews hop on to the back of the fundie monster thinking that once everything is all 'over' they will be able to live in peace despite the fact that the fundies want a 'kingdom of god' on earth with THEM as the ruler, not god. It's such a disgusting interplay and the fact that holy joe thinks he's a player instead of a ridiculous, idiotic pawn in this whole game is what disgusts me most.
NYMary, as far as the jewish community I am part of in Baltimore, it's about 85-15 against bushco and their armageddon platform with the 15% being the holy joe types.

jack - here's what gets me and scares me silly. The fundies have been running around in Israel ever since there has been an Israel. LaHaye takes groups over there all the time and shows them where Armageddon with occur.
There are right wing messianic Jews in Israel who buy into the whole scenario. They just see a different outcome. Where the fundies see Jesus coming back once Israel has control of the Temple Mount, and ultimately sending the Israelis and Jews in other parts of the world to hell if they won't convert, the jews see the Messiah finally coming and completing the promises God has made to the Israelites.
So they cooperate in trying to bring about this huge cataclysm which is largely a self-fulfilling prophecy. It fucking scares me to death.

Joe Lieberman is the reason Bush "defeated" Gore in 2000.
He has been working for Bush ever since.
Gore deserves a lot of the blame for selecting one of Clinton's biggest critics in the Senate as his running mate.
Despite great success in eliminating the deficit, presiding over an explosion in employment and the advantages of incumbency Gore decided to distance himself from his own administrations record by picking a critic to "balance" his ticket. IDIOTIC!
I fucking hate Joe Lieberman. Dems across the nation should stuff the campaign coffers of any Conn. dem willing to kick his sorry ass out of the Senate.
The biggest joke is that Lieberman could end up as a VP candidate for the Republicans. He would fast find out that the religious zealots and red-meat, war loving savages he cultivates despise him for his Jewishness and would never vote for a guy with a wife named Hadassah.

Makes me think about the sheeple in the hinterland who only pay attention when the contest peaks and then they root for the favorite. The Dallas Cowboys were "America's Team" when they were winning. If they saw a map of the United States that was distorted to show population instead of area they might pay closer attention to the issues. As it is they see a giant patch of red where Utah, Idaho and Wyoming are and assume they are with the winning team.

Politics in America has become all about "packaging."
Bushboy is probably the most incompetent and idiotic buffoon ever to run for office, but the Gooper packaging makes him appear like all the things he's not: brave, visionary, fiscally responsible, etc.
The political party that can "package" best wins the elections. Nevermind about the content of the character of the person in the "wrap."
Yes, and why does this work? Because most people pay no attention and the press just asks whether they'd like a pretty bow on their package.

Oh, I dunno: Bryce's comments on why great men are seldom elected president applied a century ago, and still ring true. Most people with the smarts and skills to do the job well disqualify themselves, because they make enemies.

Because I think that national elections in this country are going to be very close races for a long time. Every aspect, especially choice of running mate, has to be damn close to perfect.

Remember when they were calling the Atlanta Braves that, too?
Hey now, the Braves had a quasi-legitimate claim to that during the ninties. A lot of people followed the Braves outside of their market because TBS was carried by just about every cable provider in the country and TBS carried (and still does) most of the Brave's games.
But I'm a Braves fan by right since I was born there. Though they've spent every season since the '96 world series pissing their talent away.

Treatment for breast cancer can last well over a year. They never really discussed what stage she had, so it's anybody's guess what kind of treatment she got.
Yes, and I'm guessing she did get some chemo and radiation, which, Goddess knows, take time to recover from. I just hope she's doing ok, because I really liked what I saw of her. She seemed very down to earth.

A European finds that this phenomenon needs in its turn to be explained, for in the free countries of Europe brilliancy, be it eloquence in speech, or some striking achievement in war or administration, or the power through whatever means of somehow impressing the popular imagination, is what makes a leader triumphant. Why should it be otherwise in America? Because in America party loyalty and party organization have been hitherto so perfect that any one put forward by the party will get the full party vote if his character is good and his "record," as they call it, unstained. The safest candidate may not draw in quite so many votes from the moderate men of the other side as the brilliant one would, but he will not lose nearly so many from his own ranks. Even those who admit his mediocrity will vote straight when the moment for voting comes.

The first step in repairing it is the removal of the American Taliban-Fascist party, aka, the Goopers, from any public offices they hold.

Speaking of daleks,
From the same site linked above, another bit of circumstantial evidence in the Cointelpro theory of dalek or troll infestation. Particularly suspicious was a recent linkless dalek shriek that the NYT is planning tomorrow to savage Kos and Atrios; we read this and instantly both thought of cointelpro messages that sought the exact same anonymous, scornful (as with the "concerned friend" style) high-handedness crushed by its own fetishes of respectability (blogs like Atrios, fearing the sad monkies of the NYT?).

There ees a chance that Edwards learned some valuable lessons as Kerry VP peeck:
I remember hearing that Kerry conceded Missouri while Edwards was giving a speech there. That had to have irked heem.
The Edwards I want to see run ees the one on election night, 2004...
who came out and angrily stated before a crowd of Kerry supporters that every vote would be counted.
He was pissed (een the Norte Americano meaning).
That's the Edwards I weesh to see running een 08'.

Dims love the sewer's fumes.
That's more like it. You can't play all new shit-- every so often you gotta throw in one of the old hits. I was just in Buenos Aires at a music festival and saw Duran Duran play. They were OK (although they looked like wax figurines from Madame Tussaud's) when they were playing "Rio" and "Hungry Like The Wolf," but the minute they played some new shit they turned into The Worst Band In The World.
Take a lesson from the Durannies, dith. Throw out a crowd-pleaser once in a while. "Dims love the sewer's fumes" is like your "Union Of The Snake."
You like Duran Duran, dith? I dunno, they may be a little too "edgy" for you. I think they had a champagne bottle in a couple of their videos. Nah, you're probably more of a Christian Rock guy. Canadian Christian Rock at that.

My favorite writer . . .
And so the days pass
A child becomes a man
At the last.
Thoughts of the future
become remembrances
Things that were
To seek the wisdom
Leading to understanding
To become
To allow ourselves
A moments hesitation
Wants to delve
Seeking worlds apart
In denying the dream
of the heart
All that we are
Or have hopes to become
lost afar
I have sought the needs
of this precious life
Words and deeds
And all becomes lost
In the wake of the dreams
That we sought

ProfWombat,
(Just tell her Mesopotamia is another name for Iraq: Sorry about being so current with someone so long dead)
Mesopotamia
by Rudyard Kipling
They shall not return to us, the resolute, the young,
The eager and whole-hearted whom we gave:
But the men who left them thriftily to die in their own dung,
Shall they come with years and honor to the grave?
They shall not return to us, the strong men coldly slain
In sight of help denied from day to day:
But the men who edged their agonies and chid them in their pain,
Are they too strong and wise to put away?
Our dead shall not return to us while Day and Night divide --
Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?
Shall we only threaten and be angry for an hour?
When the storm is ended shall we find
How softly but how swiftly they have sidled back to power
By the favor and contrivance of their kind?
Even while they soothe us, while they promise large amends,
Even while they make a show of fear,
Do they call upon their debtors, and take counsel with their friends,
To confirm and re-establish each career?
Their lives cannot repay us -- their death could not undo --
The shame that they have laid upon our race.
But the slothfulness that wasted and the arrogance that slew,
Shall we leave it unabated in its place?

Here is a poem for Amerikans, by Jim Harrison, a fine novelist poet and man, even though he is a Lutheran:
THE BRAND NEW STATUE OF LIBERTY
I was commissioned in a dream by Imanja/also the Black Pope of Brazil, Tancred,/ to design a seven-tiered necklace of seven thousand skulls for the Statue of Liberty./Of course from a distance they'll look/ like pearls, but in November/ when the strongest winds blow, the skulls/ will rattle wildly, bone against metal,/a crack and chatter of bone against metal,/the true sound of history, this metal striking bone./ I'm not going to get heavy-handed here -/ a job is a job and I've leased a football/ field for the summer, gathered a group of ladies/who are art lovers, leased in advance/ a bull Sikorsky freight helicopter/ to drop on the necklace: funding comes/from Ford Foundation, Rockefeller, the NEA./There is one Jewish skull from Atlanta, two from Mississippi, but this is basically/an indigenous cast except skulls from tribes/of blacks who got a free ride over from Africa,/representative skulls from all the Indian/tribes, an assortment of grizzly, wolf,/ coyote and buffalo skulls. But what beauty/ when the morning sun glances off these bony pates! And her great/iron lips quivering in a smile, almost a smirk/so that she'll drop the torch to fonlde the jewels

In truth, the best way for young people to approach poetry is through music. If poets we admire today were around now, it is likely their poems would be popular songs.
To these ends try some of the lovely poems that Loreena McKennitt has set to music: The Highwayman ALfred Noyes, The Lady of Shallot - Tennyson, The Two Trees and The Stolen Child by WB Yeats and so on. Lovely way to learn to appreciate the wonderful use of language

Tena, it is okay. I agreed with your sentiment anyway - to a certain extent.
My feeling on writers and their constant questing to control their environments is this: when you have pulled your viewpoint back so far, it is sometimes difficult to deal with interaction. That's why writers live such minimalist lives.
I notice a poem by Jim Harrison above. Mr. Harrison was one of my early "supporters." I wrote him (he is a resident of Leland in Western Michigan) and asked for advice. He was gracious enough to respond and recommend his agent. My bubble was burst when I wrote his agent with his recommendation and received a note saying that they could not possibly think about reviewing new material . . .

So, Dith, what is your favorite passage in the New Testament?
Begging the question
That would be the one where Jesus convinces the two young sisters to share him, at the same time, with the candles lit and the mirrors so he can get a look at them, and furthermore to let him occasionally lodge at their plac and to cook for him. At the same time Jesus pursues other adventures while maintaining his little stable, and gains favor in the structure of the church guaranteeing his success. It is a happy period in his life, as with the few months he steals with the French adventuress "Henriette" or with the exposure of the "castrato" who is actually a gorgeous young dear with a kind of rudimentary prothesis. Or the time Jesus gets seduced by the Turk: the Turk, after a politely declined come-on (and a later incident in which it is established that Jesus would definitely dig one of the Turk's wives), invites him, of all things, to go fishing at night at his estate. They fish (in a boat, with rod and reel!) and then retire to a summerhouse. In a contrived scene the artifice of which is totally tolerated, the best looking of the Turk's wives come out and wash eachother, stretching to every position and taste, in full view of the perch where are hidden Jesus and the Turk. Jesus Christ is so moved by the spectacle that in a teasingly vague sentence he admits that he allows the Turk to help him out and then returns the favor out of courtesy. Jesus Christ was an iconically great cocksman.

You're saying that Kos should pretend to be humble in selling his book -- as though that were the only indication available to him to show that he appreciates people spending money to buy his book. I think that's pointless.
People at dKos will buy the book or not; a falsely humble plea from Kos isn't going to convince anyone who has spent time there.

I sure do wish the 'troops' would stop giving me reasons NOT to support 'em...
my tolerance for criminal shit like torture, random killing, and whining is pretty low to start, given that they're all volunteers...
best bet: bring 'em home and put all of 'em in therapy for about a year...
just sayin'

kei & yuri...
that's my favoreet passage tambien!
The Erotic Adventures of Jesus
Right between Galatians and Ephesians, no?
...and a huge eenspiration to the Apostle Paul, who liked to hang out een Men's prisons, weeth guys named "Timothy" and "Titus".
Rimbaud's a great idea; would be right up her alley. Dorothy Parker, maybe: she might actually like 'Big Blonde' more than the mordant wit for now. It'd be interesting to see what she does with it.

Wow...that's gotta be one of the
top ten most incredibly stupid things
a troll has ever said here.
God bless you for the wonderful
work you're doing.

Ha ha..Yeri and Keri would mock the Christers, a slap in the face they wouldn't dare deliver to a Hindu, Mussulman, Buddhist or whatever demographic they thought necessary to the Democrats chances in 06 or 08. Really very stupid and sad.

ProfWOmbat,
Just mailed you Lullabye by Loreena.
These are the words:
O for a voice like thunder, and a tongue
To drown the throat of war! - When the senses
Are shaken, and the soul is driven to madness,
Who can stand? When the souls of the oppressed
Fight in the troubled air that rages, who can stand?
When the whirlwind of fury comes from the
Throne of God, when the frowns of his countenance
Drive the nations together, who can stand?
When Sin claps his broad wings over the battle,
And sails rejoicing in the flood of Death;
When souls are torn to everlasting fire,
And fiends of Hell rejoice upon the slain,
O who can stand? O who hath caused this?
O who can answer at the throne of God?
The Kings and Nobles of the Land have done it!
Hear it not, Heaven, thy Ministers have done it!
