The parents of a former British paratrooper killed in Iraq have paid tribute to their son.
Stephen Enright, 29, of Devon, was working as a civilian for a US-based military operation, when he was killed after an explosive hit the vehicle in which he was travelling in Baghdad. Another worker was injured in the incident, which happened on Thursday.
Mr Enright's parents, Gloria and Daniel, said they were very proud of their son. Mrs Enright said at their home in Exeter: "He was in the Paras for nine years and served out there for a while."

"Agents rummaged through the trash, snooped into e-mails, packed Web sites and listened in on phone conversations," Hersh charged. "We know that address books and activist meeting lists have disappeared."
The Truth Project gained national attention when NBC News reported last month that it was described as a "credible threat" in a database of suspicious activity compiled by the Pentagon's Talon program. The listing cited the group's gathering a year ago at a Quaker meeting house in Lake Worth, Fla., to talk about ways to counter military recruitment at high schools.

Rescuers have moved a whale stranded in the River Thames onto a barge in an attempt to take it back to open water.
The 18ft (5m) northern bottle-nosed whale, first spotted in London on Friday, was placed in a special pontoon in shallow water near Battersea Bridge.
It was then tethered close to two boats and towed to Vauxhall Bridge to a barge which is heading for the river estuary.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks suffered their biggest loss in nearly three years on Friday, plummeting on disappointing earnings from blue chips Citigroup Inc. and General Electric Co. and a spike in oil caused by geopolitical tensions.
The Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's 500 stock index posted their biggest point declines since March 24, 2003, soon after the war in Iraq began. The Dow erased its gains for 2006.
Citigroup and GE joined a growing list of companies, including chip maker Intel Corp. and Internet media firm Yahoo Inc., whose quarterly results have disappointed investors.

Angered by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that sided with a Connecticut city that wanted to seize homes for economic development, a group of activists is trying to get one of the justices who voted for the decision evicted from his own home.
The group, led by a California man, wants Justice David Souter's home seized for the purpose of building an inn called "Lost Liberty Hotel."
They submitted enough petition signatures — only 25 were needed — to bring the matter before voters in March. This weekend, they're descending on Souter's hometown, the central New Hampshire town of Weare, population 8,500, to rally for support.
"This is in the tradition of the Boston Tea Party and the Pine Tree Riot," organizer Logan Darrow Clements said, referring to the riot that took place during the winter of 1771-1772, when colonists in Weare beat up officials appointed by King George III who fined them for logging white pines without approval.

Al-Fatah is ahead of HAMAS, the Islamic Resistance Movement, in the public surveys for Wednesday's elections, the latest reports say.
Palestinian surveyor Halil Shikaki conducted a poll among 4,516 people, showing that al-Fatah is ahead of HAMAS by seven points.
The poll's results show al-Fatah would have 42 percent public support, as HAMAS would have 35, with a two percent margin of error.
Another poll run by Jerusalem Media and Communication Center disclosed yesterday al-Fatah and HAMAS are neck-to-neck in the race.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Saturday that he would push this year for measures to limit the soaring costs of health care, as he previewed domestic themes before his State of the Union address.
"For the sake of America's small businesses, workers and families, we must ... make health care more affordable and accessible," Bush said in his weekly radio broadcast.
He said he plans to press Congress to expand the use and availability of tax-free "Health Savings Accounts," which allow people to set aside money for routine medical expenses.

Anybody else do a spit take when they heard Mueller say this?
"It is one thing to write concerned letters or to hold peaceful demonstrations," Mueller said. "It is another thing entirely to construct and use improvised explosives to harass and intimidate victims by destroying property and to cause millions of dollars in losses by acts or threats of violence."
On the same day that Quaker guy from Florida is testifying about what the feds did to his group.

These things are for people who don't use insurance...and guess who benefits ?
Wall Street. He's pushing this cause the SS privitization failed and he has to grease some cronies palms.
My sister just lost her job and this was proposed as an alternative. She'd have to pay 6k out of pocket before the benefits kick in and she wasn't told what was covered after that. Her kid needs oral surgery so she'd have to pay for that out of pocket. Screw the tax deductions when you live check to check.
Then the issue of insurabilty comes in and she is going to "rated" due to her health problems.
Earlier my wife in her late 30's had a rough pregnancy was "turned down" as we looked at a similar plan after our child was born. It was the same type of POS policy and because she had taken prednazone for a few months for breathing she was declined. She
She no longer needs the drug or treatment nor was taking it when she applied but she told the truth and was turned down. She now is blackballed from any other type of private insurance and gets "rated" when applying for life insurance.
Being self employed, this forced her to go back to work or we'd have no insurance.
In essence HSA's are for people who "don't" use insurance. If you are sick or have a condition that requires onging care, you are screwed...if you can be accepted in the "we don't want unhealthy people club".....

To equate the property crimes of these groups with terrorism points out how far this administration is willing to go to exploit fear to further their own political agenda. They think if they can somehow connect ecological groups with terrorism they can politically neuter them.
While the Bush perverts the aim of the Dept. of Homeland Security to go after their political enemies, the real terrorists continue to gain ground. What worthless pieces of shit this administration's shills are. Fuck them all!
