I really think most of media would happily allow themselves to be herded into camps, as long as they deluded themselves that they still had 'connections' and party invites.

GravatarThere is Nothing More Important Than Blowjobs

I agree with your premise, at least as far as my personal life goes. For national poltical news, not so much. I think lying your way into a war where tens of thousands of innocents are slaughtered might be a teeny bit more important.

I don't doubt it. Wasn't Judy's big problem with prison that the food sucked and she couldn't have control of the remote?

Gravatar3)How do you explain the disparity?

Every broadcast network, all the cable news channels, and the largest conglomerations of print and radio news are all owned by major Republican contributors.

It's not a "disparity." It's what the boss wants.

Right now, strong majorities in this country oppose the president, oppose the war, want Bush impeached for wiretapping, and don't think Abramoff was an 'equal money dispenser.'

The American media is paid to push against this, and that's what they're doing.

Folks, you can take the last ten years of American journalism and flush it down the toilet. The same people who own the Republican party one the American media, effectively the same thing as having state-controlled media.

That's not America. Then again, the GOP and the American media don't give a flying fuck about America. Just look what they've done to it.
.

GravatarTake for example, Dean's so called "scream" and Chimpy. The press played that about a million times, trying to paint Dean as crazy, and yet Chimpy can mangle every other word in a speech, and they just laugh it off.... oh, ain't he just like us regular folks?. No, he's a fucking moron, and if he had a (D) next to his name you can bet his intelligence would have been pudited to death on the yak shows.

GravatarOT: a post from my Palestinian friend: HOW IS ELECTIONS WILL BE IN MY VILLAGE NAHALEEN

GravatarBuried waaaay down toward the bottom of the LA Times story on DOJ's attempts to subpoena all search engines' information - they've been unsuccessful with Google, sucessful with Micro$oft, AOL and Yahoo - is this phenomenonally scary paragraph. Let us consider it for a moment:

"The Justice Department also asked the Internet companies for the addresses to every website in their search-engine indexes, a request that was negotiated down to 1 million randomly chosen addresses. Government lawyers said they wanted that information to gauge the prevalence of websites that were harmful to minors and to measure the effectiveness of filtering software on those sites."

I think I'm going to take Arthur and go into my shed now and lock the door and not come out again until I turn into a Canadian and can feel safe from scrutiny of my every action.

Gravatarnick carraway: Jeffraham: what does "squesh" as in "This is so Squesh" mean?

"Squesh" is a refernce to a headshop (well, it used to be a headshop) in Lexington, KY, named Sqecial Media... nice to see it still exists, but they may just sell books and crystals, etc., now.

GravatarBut...but... National Security journamalisming is hard hard work! Maybe we should think about conducting a type of "Logan's Run" renewal ceremony for journalist who start falling off.

This is why I hate them. It's been mentioned countless times before on these very comment threads, but they are a disgrace, not only to the human race, but to the term 'journalism'. And this is because they've convinced themselves that what's important is sucking up to fear-mongerers, and screwing over the 'average' American. Actual news isn't important.

When the Serbs overthrew Milosevic, they made sure they also targeted state-controlled media. I'm not suggesting bulldozing the entrance to CNN and abusing their anchors, but I wish there were some way to make it clear: Either do your job, which is serving the people, not the politicians, or get the fuck out of the way.

GravatarWell, blowjobs ARE important, but not in the way our media seems to think.

It's a beautiful spring day -- already 58 degrees. I got out and worked in the yard for about an hour this morning. The only problem is that we're just one month out from the Winter Solstice and it should be freezing cold right now.

Other than that, no problem.

I commented about it on the last (late, great) thread...re how we all heard the Quaker guy from Fla. going over how the gov't infiltrated his harmless group, went through trashcans, and other harassments.

And how, on the very same day, you have FBI Director Mueller, while discussing the northwest 'ecoterrorist' arrests, and these words come out of his mouth:

"It is one thing to write concerned letters or to hold peaceful demonstrations," Mueller said. "It is another thing entirely to construct and use improvised explosives to harass and intimidate victims by destroying property and to cause millions of dollars in losses by acts or threats of violence."

Here in Grand Rapids, it's 31 degrees. We'll probably approach 40 by day's end.

GravatarBank Of America and Compass Bank managers have been instructing their employees in the last few weeks on how to respond to customer demands in the event of a collapse of the U.S. economy - specifically telling the employees that only agents from the Department Of Homeland Security will have authority to decide what belongings customers may have from their safe deposit boxes - and that precious metals and other valuables will not be released to U.S. citizens. The bank employees have been strictly prohibited from revealing the banks’ new "guidelines" to anyone. (however, employees have been talking to friends and family)

The next time you visit your bank, ask them about it - then ask yourself, why is this information being kept secret from customers and the public - what’s really going on?

GravatarAfter reading the latest considering Tweety and his latest inanities, I decided to write the boy an e-mail:

Mr. Matthews:

I never thought I'd hear one of your statements that would ever top describing George W. Bush as having a "sunny nobility", a description so asinine that it rivals some of the malapropisms of the current occupant of the White House (i.e. yer doin' a heckuva job Brownie), but your comparison of Michael Moore to Osama bin Laden wins the prize.

Do you actually believe most of the abject nonsense that you spout? Or, is it that your mouth runs so incessantly that no filter is applied to the content of what you say (i.e. you do not think)? I suspect that it is a combination of both.

It is without a doubt that you and your ilk that continue to manufacture lies supporting the current leadership of this country while at the same time slandering said leadership's critics constitute a threat more dangerous to this country than any Islamic terrorist could ever hope to be.

GravatarUS urges broad Iraq coalition

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The United States is ready to help in negotiations to produce a broad coalition government in Iraq that can foster national unity, a U.S. official said in Baghdad on Saturday.

But, speaking a day after election results showed continued Shi'ite Islamist dominance, he said minority Sunni Arab leaders, largely excluded from power after boycotting the previous election, must act to end insurgent violence against U.S. forces and the Shi'ite- and Kurdish-led interim government.

"For us Iraq can't build on a relatively narrower sectarian or ethnic basis. It has to be inclusive," said the official, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity.

Well, not now, I'm not awake!

But the Serbs had many false starts before they got their act together. And they did have outside help. They knew they had to be as non-violent as possible, but that certain small acts of violence were going to take place, and that they should be precise in that violence. Also co-opting the folks in the military/paras/police who could have eliminated the oppo.

Also, that they focused on the corruption/cronyism of the Milosevic regime, since there were more than a few Serbs who were quite nationalist, but hated the corruption.

Why the Dems aren't emphasizing the corruption, I don't know. Oh wait, the 'Democrats' that the media has on aren't actually dems.

I remember, because I struggled every morning between listening to NPR news or turning it off so my daughter wouldn't hear about oral sex.

So why was that permissible on the national airwaves 24/7 and in every article of the major newspapers, but a few rowdy and rude comments makes the WaPo blog blush?

Damn, I must be psychic. I used to shop HD, but something gradually turned me away, and now I do just that; Lowes for tool;s and lumber, and a little hardware store in a nearby town (where I can get screws in boxes, not plastic baggies, and for less) for smaller stuff.
I have a relative that knows HD well, from the inside, and he tells me they have a neat trick; they hire qualified professionals to run each department--a pluumber for Plumbing, an electrician for Electrical, etc--when a store first opens, then lay them off later, and fill the store with minimum-wagers who don't know a Phillips screwdriver from Phillips Milk of Magnesia, and hire managers who look at the bottom line and nothing else. I've gone back into stores I hadn't visited for several years, and been disgusted by the deterioration and give-a-shit attitude. I look for Lowes to do to them what HD did to Builder's Square.

GravatarKRIV to air ad targeting DeLay
Spot linking him to Abramoff was edited after local stations rejected the first version

By SAMANTHA LEVINE
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - At least one Houston television station has agreed to air a reworked television ad linking Rep. Tom DeLay to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff after refusing to air the first version of the commercial made by two liberal groups last week.

Fox station KRIV (Channel 26) has agreed to air the spot, though Vice President and General Manager D'Artagnan Bebel declined to explain the decision.

The Campaign for America's Future and the Public Campaign Action Fund said KPRC (Channel 2) will [also] run the ad, but station representatives declined requests for confirmation.

The new 30-second ad contains more detailed information about the connections between the two Washington insiders, said David Donnelly, national campaigns director of the Public Campaign Action Fund in Washington.

.....

The groups unveiled the first version of the ad Jan. 9. The stations — KRIV, KTRK (Channel 13), KHOU (Channel 11), and KPRC — sold airtime to run the spot for a week beginning on Jan. 11.

On Jan. 10, DeLay campaign lawyer Don McGahn sent a letter to the stations warning that the commercial contained several falsehoods and that airing it could land them in court.

The stations pulled the spot, which could still be seen on cable and the groups' Web sites.

Two days later, the nonpartisan group FactCheck.org, which reviews the accuracy of political ads and is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, said the ad wasn't false, just ambiguously worded.

The stations refused to budge.

The groups went back to the drawing board because "we think it's important that voters and the public in Houston see the ad itself and hear the story about what Tom DeLay has done," Donnelly said. He would not elaborate on the changes.

Peter Diaz, president and general manager of KHOU, said he will review the ad and its supporting material over the weekend and make a decision as early as Monday.

Representatives from KTRK said they had not made a decision as of Friday night.

Cameroon villagers kill, roast local chief

Reuters News Service

YAOUNDE, Cameroon - Security forces in Cameroon have arrested about 50 villagers accused of killing their local chief and roasting him on a fire, state radio and local officials said Friday.

Chief Simon Vugar II was killed Thursday evening when he returned to his village of Kedjom-Keku a year after being banished by villagers, officials said.

"Chief Vugar was banished ... on accusations that he indiscriminately sold their farmland to Fulani herdsmen, a situation which according to them was causing hunger in the village," Jules Marcel Jahga, government administrative officer for the northwest region of Mezam, told Reuters by telephone.

Jahga said security forces were alerted by villagers fleeing an angry mob and arrived to find Vugar's charred body lying beside a heap of stones and a grave dug nearby.

GravatarDemocrats assail Republicans on ethics

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats accused Republicans on Saturday of using "doublespeak" and abusing their power in order to help special interest groups.

With Republicans burdened by the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said in the weekly Democratic radio address that years of controlling both the White House and Congress had corrupted the Republican Party.

"There is a price to pay for this Republican abuse of power and it can be seen in the present state of our union," Reid said. "Special interests and the well-connected have been rewarded by Republicans while everyone else has been left behind."

GravatarPakistan for more US coordination in war on terror

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan called on Saturday for more coordination with the United States to avoid any repetition of last week's U.S. air strike in a tribal region that triggered outrage in the Muslim nation.

Eighteen civilians, including women and children, were killed in the strike on Damadola village in the Bajaur tribal region near the border with Afghanistan, which U.S. officials said was aimed at al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri.

Pakistani intelligence officials say Osama bin Laden's deputy was not present at the time of the strike but at least four al Qaeda figures, including a bomb expert with a $5 million bounty on his head and a Zawahri son-in-law, had also died.

This is why republicans win elections though they are unpopular. Rove did not win republican elections-the media put republicans in office. And now that the inevitable pushback is occurring, the conventional wisdom is coalescing around the lie that bloggers and their readers are ignorant, vindictive trolls who add nothing to polite discourse. Dems thought blogs would be the new way of reaching people. But the problem is people only go to blogs that they like-so it is preaching to the choir. Rich liberals like Soros should buy: CNN, MSNBC, and Knight Ridder. That would solve all these problems. Imagine, for example, what would have happened if CNN was fair and Gannongate happened. Question of faith goes to court
Italian atheist accuses priest of fraud for claiming Jesus truly existed

By NICOLE WINFIELD
Associated Press

ROME - Lawyers for a small-town parish priest have been ordered to appear in court next week after the Roman Catholic cleric was accused of unlawfully asserting what many people take for granted: that Jesus Christ existed.

The Rev. Enrico Righi was named in a 2002 complaint filed by Luigi Cascioli after Righi wrote in a parish bulletin that Jesus did indeed exist, and that he was born of a couple named Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and lived in Nazareth.

Cascioli, a lifelong atheist, claims Righi violated two Italian laws by making the assertion: so-called "abuse of popular belief" in which someone fraudulently deceives people; and "impersonation" in which someone gains by attributing a false name to someone.

Cascioli says that for 2,000 years the Roman Catholic Church has been deceiving people by furthering the fable that Christ existed, and says the church has been gaining financially by impersonating as Christ someone by the name of John of Gamala, the son of Judas from Gamala.

He also asserts that the Gospels — the most frequently cited testimony of Jesus' existence — are inconsistent, full of errors and biased, and that other written evidence from the time is scant and doesn't hold up to scholarly analysis.

Bin Laden Tape Probably Faked by CIA

Back in 2002, the Bush administration was chagrined when the world's foremost voice identification experts, a group in Swizterland called IDIAP analyzed several Bin Laden tapes and concluded that a "CIA-verified" bin Laden tape was NOT Bin Laden, but someone whose voice patterns resembled the terrorist's. Now again we have a Bin Laden tape that arrives just when Bush needs a "terrorist diversion." And once again, we have only the CIA "experts" verifying the authenticity. So why since 2002 hasn't the IDIAP been called in to verify these always conveniently timed tapes? And why is no CIA expert ever actually named?

And as further evidence of how closely the US media is colluding with Bush, journalists who once queried the institute for their opinion on the authenticity of bin Laden tapes are no longer doing so.

GravatarBlowjobs just don't get the respect around here that they used to.

GravatarNoteworthy comment at Poynter's This Week in Media:

I hope we talk more next week about the Washington Post's decision to shut down public commentary on post.blog. For all its positives, the Internet has drawn attention to our ability as a nation to engage in dialogue. When responsible organizations feel like they cannot host such discussions, it leaves the conversation in the hands of those with nothing to lose. The quality of the conversation will take a predictable turn.

Indeed.

GravatarIt's a sad state of affairs to think this way, but something like "storming the media" (peaceful yet forceful) could be accomplished only if we have a strong leader... someone mainstream and respected and with enough power to organize the fed up couch potatoes. The blog masses aren't enough.

The silent majority has to join and to make it a sweeping movement.

I can't think of anyone who fits the bill at the moment but a "revolutionary" leader is desperately needed.

I know my parents and relatives who are sick and tired of this crap wouldn't hit the streets unless they thought they had cover.

Justathought.

Gravatarreferences a semi-obscure American leftist text by William Blum? Must have a kick-ass library in that cave...

yeah i saw that in salon. blum's anti empire report was a nice read.

GravatarFrom this erratic behavior I have to wonder if your caps have burst. You might want to call a service tech to check out the old processor board there.

You wanna come and try to fix me, card puncher?

Come a little closer and I'll burst a Cap allright -- right in your ass!

Gravatari will have to take some photos
Moonbootica, Venusberg - 1:04 pm

Well, do as you please, dear, but if we're still talking about post-shower images of you, for heaven's sake try to be discreet and artistic.

You may want to pixellate your face in post-production, though, even though it detracts from the overall composition.

Because if your dad ever views the results, I guarantee that your promised graduation present will vanish like a whale from the Thames!

GravatarMy post at 12:49 was in reference to voting machines. Where that line about CNN and bulldozers came from is anybody's guess. Haloscan is reeeaaally getting strange...

Go munch on your Paper Tape and choke!

That is the problem with the inteeligence services, they put these damn neo-con-puters in service and things just gt uncivil in a heartbeat.

This NSA Computer is so modern it thinks Twinax is state of the art.

Gravatarjello, got a link for that story?

GravatarI think Ms Howell is very very stupid and in way over her head. But I think she was put into that job on purpose.

Gravatarstill wouldn't fix what ails this party. one reason i think alito isn't being filibustered is because democrat's corporate masters want alito to be confirmed.

Bingo, remember the Corporate Fascist movement has come to power by infiltrating and destroying from the inside...Republican party, all of media, media religion, the judiciary, so we have to realise they are doing the same in the Demacratic party. These corporatists must be purged from society much like a debaathification.

Same thing with Condi, indeed same thing with Quayle. A truly inferior subordinate can never be a threat and is probably sincere in its loyalty.

yes ...yes and oh did I mention yes I agree ...

That's what comes, I guess, of having a tradition of rule by absolute monarchs, with their "Divine Right" and all...

me neither but Google showed some balls last week

GravatarIs it late enough in the thread to go OT?

Received this in a email from a friend this morning. It continues as a "chain letter." I deleted that part, but this made me smile abit. Rarer and rarer these days. Kind of a "Rest of the Story" story.

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog.

There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.

"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did.

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name?

Sir Winston Churchill.

Someone once said: What goes around comes around.

Work like you don't need the money.

Love like you've never been hurt.

Dance like nobody's watching.

Sing like nobody's listening.

Live like it's Heaven on Earth.

It's National Friendship Week. Send this to

everyone you consider A FRIEND.

Pass this on, and brighten someone's day.

AN IRISH FRIENDSHIP WISH: You had better send

this back!! Good Luck!

I hope it works...

May there always be work for your hands to do;

May your purse always hold a coin or two;

May the sun always shine on your windowpane;

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;

May the hand of a friend always be near you;

May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

Gravatarshorter WaPo reasoning regarding Howell: No Back Talk!

GravatarThe same admin Cabal that wants Google to give it all their info can't put together a working communications system for national emergencies, not 9/11, not Katrina, not the wildfires in OK - wher FEMA hasn't admitted it's a disaster yet. What are they going to do when they beat it out of them, sue google for leaking that they took it?

GravatarMoe Szyslak, okay. thanks. It still made me think sometimes people do kind things for other people.

Definitely pockets of defiance have sprung up and more will emerge. We do have some strong voices with a microphone but as yet no "call to action".

GravatarWisconsin Governor, Democrat Jim Doyle's comment to press after vetoing a Pro Gun bill.

"The bill does not create a single job, help a single Wisconsin citizen afford health care or improve schools for a single Wisconsin child," Doyle said in a statement. "The Legislature should spend more time trying to get jobs into our communities instead of more guns."

This is a superb message. The Dems in DC should likewise get their message across as well. Why can't they do this?

GravatarMoe - buy a fellow crank a drink?

GravatarThe only solution is media ownership. Its funny to see all these smart rich liberals out there, who dont get this simple fact.

Yep. Started to bring that up when we had the revolutionary troll the other day wanting to take to the streets, but didn't bother.

The best idea I heard bantered around was getting (over time) a million liberals to direct $1k each (a billion dollars total) of their 401k's to a liberal mutual fund that would buy majority interest in TV, radio, and newspapers in *light* red states. Use Ohio as an example.

Of course the problem is most company 401k's are limited on which funds you can buy in their plan.

GravatarIn all fairness to the press has a lot to do. They have to rewrite the history of the Clinton administration (never did a thing but spend money, have sex and kill Vince Foster, while Newt rode to the nations rescure). They have to rewrite Poppy (a fine and decent fellow who sadly lacked "the vision thing") and Reagan, the budget balancing, warrior demi-god and superhero, who left Bush, his true heir, the keys to the "Fortress of solitude" in Crawford, Tx.
That's a lot of work.

GravatarSure, Flaming Moe for NTodd.

Mmm...Krusty Kough Syrup...

GravatarJesus, Shumer says the medicare bill is the greatest fiasco in memory. Shit, his memory must be real bad because it doesn't hold a candle to Iraq, Katrina, clear skies, healthy forests, .................

I suggest that you mount a few torches along the wall-- surely there must be a vast repository of disused torch-holders somewhere in Britain.

That ought to warm up the stairwell nicely-- I see there is already a fire extinguisher handy in case something goes awry.

Gravatar'I thought we were getting post-shower pics.'

Sorry, Moe, no points for clean porn, you're still dirty peeping tom to the WH peeping toms in chief.

GravatarHappy Saturday, kids.

Here's a story from our local paper today. To me, the only thing worse than a mime is a Christian mime who "uses his gifts of interpretative dance and mime to minister to others."

GravatarStupid satellite rain fade. Sorry for the double.

No, wait, I'm not. Why the hell should I apologize? Fuck physics.

GravatarNow there you go spoiling a lovely story with icky facts. You'll naver meake it as a pol, that's for sure. Why just the other day a distant cousin of the emperor tripped over a pile of frozen dog poo left by the scnauzer belonging to the niece of the beer hieress ... oh wait that was that movie I have to get back by 5:00. Gotta run....

GravatarHey! Is that a whale?

Meanwhile, the newspapers keep inserting free movie DVDs to get more readers. Tomorrow, the Observer has David Lynch's Dune. Of course I'm going to buy it!

Oh man, that's so fucking cool.

Wonder if it will be the Alan Smithee version...

GravatarKeyes is a gangsta variation: he can't speak English, he hates women and he has the morality of a trog (or perhaps a witch-hunting Medaeval), but not in the way that so many of the black people on BET do. He should've been given his own show as soon as he became the only candidate to agree to Michael Mooore's mosh pit. We would watch every day.

I think Keyes is yet another of those self-hating gays the GOP is SO full of.

So I guess that makes him a double self-hater.

I think that's sad, really.
