I remember a year, year and a half into Bush's first term I was referring to Bush and his minions as "criminal gangsters" and "liars," and it drove the resident wingnut in the department I was in at the time batshit crazy that I would say such "extremist" things about our government. Now there is incontrovertible evidence that Bushco are lying criminals. I no longer see the wingnut anymore, but I wish I did so I could say "See? I was right."
Not that he'd believe it even now. Instead I'm sure I'd get a lecture about how everything Bush is doing is completely legal and sanctioned by the Democrats.

Thank God we got rid of oil-for-food
BAGHDAD, Iraq, Feb. 4 — Iraqi and American officials say they are seeing a troubling pattern of government corruption enabling the flow of oil money and other funds to the insurgency and threatening to undermine Iraq's struggling economy.
In Iraq, which depends almost exclusively on oil for its revenues, the officials say that any diversion of money to an insurgency that is killing its citizens and tearing apart its infrastructure adds a new and menacing element to the challenge of holding the country together

Mayor Considers Moving Against Senate GOP Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is considering using his considerable wealth and popularity to help a Democratic Queens city councilman challenge one of the State Senate's longest-standing Republican lions this fall, aides to the mayor said on Friday.
Such a move would amount to a declaration of war by the mayor, a Republican, against the Senate's Republican majority leader, Joseph L. Bruno, who is struggling to retain his party's slim grip on the Senate and cannot afford to lose any Senate seats.

I have no doubt that they spied on Americans for political purposes. I think they probably had listening parties with Rove shouting out requesting to listen in on Patrick Fitzgerald. There was no paper record - it was wide open - they could listen to anyone at anytime and no one would ever know except the people in the room. Or do the college students that just had a few thousand more dollars added to their tuition feel safer? I mean which group of people feel safer with their safety net removed? Lots of features: 3 ADSR envelopes, 3 OSCs, 2 LFOs, 2 multimode filters etc.

I fail to see why the Presidents actions are worthy of such hate. Based on the information provided in the article they found "fewer than 10 suspects a year worthy of follow up". So, we need 50 Mohammad Atta's before it becomes a big deal? I think it is admirable that the President is trying to protect us from the head choppers. If we find out that the President's interpretation of the law was incorrect, we will pass some new laws and proceed with the intelligence gathering. Talk to a few Armenians if you think Muslim aggression is driven only by "American Imperialism". Look at what is happing to Denmark over some cartoons, for Christs sake! Sallyh says:
"Hell, I've got a far better chance of buying it on the daily commute down the 405 than I ever will in a terrorist attack."
Mathematically correct. However, accidental death doesn't impact our country the same way a terrorist bombing does. Even if we treated 9/11 as a solely criminal act and did nothing overseas because the criminals were all dead, our lives would have been forever changed for the worse that day. That is the nature of terrorism. Terrorism is not just about death, it is death to serve some evil purpose. Terrorism is death to create headlines, to make you forever look over your shoulder in fear. I have a son who guards our local airport in body armor carrying a pistol. In the old days when there was an accident such men and women ran quickly to give aid. Now they must pause to see if the accident is a diversion, to see if the explosion was set to attract aid workers so a bigger bomb could be set off.
