I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

er, frist

GravatarCheney is a weapon of mass destruction.

GravatarYou'd think somebody in the DNC would stand up, or make a plan, or shout about it all.

I guess they are still in the huddle, going over the game to come. Eight months away from election and I need somebody to stand behind.

GravatarGood morning!

GravatarThis style of leadership, which Pelosi also inherited from Democratic predecessors such as former House majority leader Dick Gephardt (Mo.) and former House speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill (Mass.), punishes those who speak out too much and can have the effect of suppressing young firebrands.

Do the Dems have any young firebrands?

GravatarIt would be interesting to see if there IS a young lefty firebrand out there. My fear is that the young crew is even more accommodating than the old crowd cited in this story, but it's hard to say. Where are the lefties in the DemocratIC Pary these days? Can't any of them get anywhere?

GravatarThanks bapoo, but one Newt is enough, don't ya think?

GravatarDo the Dems have any young firebrands?
Lime Rickey | 02.18.06 - 9:18 am | #

Haven't seen any yet. Of course, they may be like the rest of us and forced to eat Bush Cake.

Gravatarthe question is: Where is the Democrats' Gang of Seven

I've been asking myself the same thing. The astounding incompetance of Republicans, both in this administration and in Congress, combined with their aristocratic attitudes, their outright contempt for the basic needs and values of the American people, and their daily insults to the intelligence of Jane and John Q. citizen, should be giving Democrats election issues on a silver platter.

The qualifier is "should be".

GravatarRuss Feingold seems to be the only Dem willing to take on the Bushboy regime and their despotic attempt to compromise civil liberties with the mis-named "Patriot Act."

Bushboy and his cohorts wave the bloody flag of 9/11 everytime someone objects to their trampling the US Constitution or their "Patriot Act," act.

The truth is that all Americans are at far more menace from their own illegal snooping government than they would be from any attack or attacks by the puny al Qaeda or their sympathizers.

Gravataryeah, well, they also did it with the "Gingrich lexicon"

"use words like "sick", "depraved", "immoral" when describing your opponent and his proposals."

If the Democrats would adopt the same tactics, substituting words truthfully describing Republicans such as "corrupt, craven, totalitarian, hypocritical" etc, they'd spend so much of their time whining about how mean Democrats are that they'd never have the time to land any punches.

Which is why the Dems will sit back and let the Republicans define them - again.

GravatarThey had a firebrand in Paul Hackett.

However, the Dem establishment took care of that shit.

I will not get over it either. They can kiss every square inch of my ass - from now to infinity.

I'm just waiting for them to fuck the rest of the 'Band of Brothers'. Just wait.

GravatarAn invasion of Iran will happen by 2009 no matter who is in power.

GravatarWell, there won't be any new blood in the Democratic ranks as long as people like Paul Hackett get shut out by party leaders.

GravatarWell, there won't be any new blood in the Democratic ranks as long as people like Paul Hackett get shut out by party leaders.

GravatarThe only Senators who voted against the recent "Patriot Act" perversion were: Russ Feingold, Jim Jeffers and Robert Byrd.

The House has a few feist Dems like Barney Frank, Henry Waxman and the independent Bernie Sanders.

They should be the rule of who represents us in Congress. Instead they are all the exception.

GravatarThey had a firebrand in Paul Hackett.

However, the Dem establishment took care of that shit.

Yup. It was disgusting how they treated him, too. These guys really can't see the forest for the trees.

GravatarFeingold seems like a good choice to lead the revolution. Step 1: fire the Dem consultants in DC.

Gravatarwe also have to assume the GOP will allow Democrats to win and not fudge elections

GravatarWhat happened to Hackett???

GravatarOT: But this is pretty damned funny. Mrs DWD and I were checking flights from NZ to LA to make sure they were ontime. The Qantas website does not work. We Googled to see if there was some other information available: this popped up.

This story, Qantas is Australian for Shit, is awfully damned funny.

http://www.gravett.org/yobbo/?p=800

Gravatar Well, there won't be any new blood in the Democratic ranks as long as people like Paul Hackett get shut out by party leaders.

I missed this this week, but I thought they asked him to run for the House rather than the Senate, so he took his ball and went home. Is that not what happened?

Gravatarconsidering we've been losing seats since 1994, maybe it's time to try something different from playing nicey-nice and hoping the voters notice.

agree or disagree with specific dem policies(and it's hard to even name them because dems can't market), majorities over and over say they want the dems to provide opposition to chimpco excesses....so you would think they'd stop kissing chimpco ass and do a little opposing.

GravatarFeingold seems like a good choice to lead the revolution. Step 1: fire the Dem consultants in DC.
Raoul Paste

There was a great article on Russ in a recent issue of Vogue magazine. For real.

GravatarI think there's more hope out in the states right now. I'm afraid dems/liberals have conceded Washington to the republicans. But where they are in power locally they're doing good things with the environment and energy.

And I couldn't agree more about Hackett. They should have let the people of Ohio decide what "type" of democrat they wanted instead of making assumptions about it from Washington. Stupid.

GravatarDon't bind us to the 'meme' of reproducing 1994 in mirror image.

'Throw The Bums Out' would accomplished ending the republican stranglehold on our country just as well and would be more of a 'netroots' response.

The dems, as much as I love them, (and I do guys!) have not earned that much loyalty.

The system is broke.

Fixing is the priority, not Reid's or Pelosi's or Boxer's or Kerry's or even Hillary's victory.

GravatarI don't know about you folks but everytime I see the Sunday shows and speakers for the Dems, I hear them say they are working on these things. They are working on a plan.

Well, I'm tired. Sick and Tired of hearing a plan is in the works. If they need help why don't they call up friends from Atrois. I've got a boatload of ideas on the issues. So have all the rest of us here.

Gravatar"I strongly agree that Iran poses a real security threat to the world and I encourage continued vigilance. However, I have real concerns that the wording of this resolution might be interpreted by the Bush Administration as all that is necessary to take military action. Although the day may come when I do support such action, today is not that day."

Rep Michael Capuano, concerning H. Con Res 341

GravatarClinton pantsed Gingrich with the government shut-down. Newt was a fool, at best.

GravatarI was going to go and give Gov. Granholm and Senator Stabenow some fresh shit to eat this morning at their co-appearance... but decided against it.

My wife commented 'just what they need is people from their own party giving them shit'.

Sure. When they're more concerned with re-election, than what is going on within their constituency - they deserve every bit of shit they get, and then some.

Stabenow has nothing coming at this point. NOTHING. Right now, Carl Levin doesn't have much more coming either.

That's just the way it is.

GravatarIf'n ya din't awaken pissed-off, this should start your day nicely

Apparently Jack'Moff's gonna 'take one' for the capos...

Mornin' batzes...have a nice day...

GravatarNot exactly. Hackett announced for the Senate against DeWine before the other Dem did. When the other guy (his name escapes me at the moment)jumped in, the National Party decided to back him over Hackett because he had more experience. They proceeded to call Hackett's supporters and urge them to cut off the funds.

When Hackett declared for the Senate, he promised he would not enter the House race so that the other candidates for Schmitt's seat had a clear field.

Hackett wasn't throwing a temper tantrum, he was keeping his word.

Gravatarthe question is: Where is the Democrats' Gang of Seven

Seems the Dems do not have the stomach for the fight. As is evidenced by whatever they did to Hackett.

"use words like "sick", "depraved", "immoral" when describing your opponent and his proposals."

The Dems refuse to, as my old man used to say, 'swing an ax' with the repukes.

Their excuse is mostly that if they acted liked that, then they'd be no better than the repukes. I've heard that crap for 25 years. Bull shit.

Even Clinton, the master at getting his way politically without having to sling mud, got one of the biggest boosts to his popularity after the repukes took over control of Congress and he lambasted the Dems to get involved and not sit up in the 'cheap seats' whining.

They're still up there.

GravatarDon't know if I'd call her a firebrand, but Debbie Wasserman Shultz from FL is a very bright and articulate freshman member of the 30-Something Dems in the House.

So that's one.

GravatarThere was also Gingrich's odious "Contract on America." Who knows if that had any effect on the election. He thinks it did.

GravatarMy last post was in response to NY Mary's:

I missed this this week, but I thought they asked him to run for the House rather than the Senate, so he took his ball and went home. Is that not what happened?
NYMary

Gravatar"I missed this this week, but I thought they asked him to run for the House rather than the Senate"

that's the spin: "see how nice we were to offer him a job, and he refused and wasn't a team player and is a whiner"..he had already given his word not to run for the house seat.

"Stabenow has nothing coming at this point. NOTHING."

i got a fundraisng letter from her this week and tosed it....

GravatarRule of Marines:

Fuck over one of us - you've fucked over all of us.

Gravatarthe other part of the story is that when newt released the contract from america the press treated it and him like moses coming down from the mountain

GravatarDon't know if I'd call her a firebrand, but Debbie Wasserman Shultz from FL is a very bright and articulate freshman member of the 30-Something Dems in the House.

Right on. I was just thinking of her.

GravatarAmerica and the World is watching what is going on. The Dems don't have to actually swing the ax. The repugs have already hung themselves. All the Dems have to do is come out and talk against it all. As of now, it's in appearance that it's all just okay. STAND UP and be Disgusted just like the rest of us. Where is the outrage? And don't smile at the camera when you say it.

GravatarIf you want a coupla NSA/spying scandal talking points

CHECK THESE OUT

GravatarThe answer to 51 across in today's NYTs crossword is STROM!!!!! God I miss his gerbil handsomeness.

Gravatarthe press treated it and him like moses coming down from the mountain

Man, you got that shit right.

GravatarAnd don't smile at the camera when you say it.

And don't allow the C-Span cameras to show you being nicey-nice with the person that essentially just called you a traitor.

GravatarHacket -- good example of straigt talker that would challeng the insiders - they did not even let him get to the starting gate.

STALE ideas... why do we need to follow the blueprint of 1994 -- we need our own strategy -- the goal/motivation of the 1994 gang was literally highway (bill) robbery. We are looking for dems with an entirely different motivation -- and intention - saving our democracy with more work and less payoff (payola) than ever.
We need Evolutionaries! - an entirely new approach - a more realistic and generational approach - dare I say more feminine approach. Patriarchy, Hierarchy Empire and Imperialism vs , Righteous generational, sustainable vision for our future on the planet.

GravatarThe problem for the Dems is that they are a very diverse group, while the Goopers are in lock-step about ideology and following the party line and the WH dictates.

When you add to that the domination of the MSM by the Goopers so that any Dem critique is either ignored or ridiculed, it makes the fight to overthrow the bastards even harder.

The Dems need to coalesce around some basic and popular policies like getting the fuck out of Iraq, restoring the tax rates/balancing the budget and protecting the civil liberties of all Americans.

GravatarNewt was an academic, out of place amongst the argle-bargle. His rhetorical "skills" were decidedly impolitic.

GravatarHey ...

If anyone sees The Kenosha Kid around these parts today, will you please tell him to call me and that I sent him my number via email?

Many thanks, Liberal Elitists.

GravatarNewt presents The Ten Commandments. It was barf-inducing.

GravatarI'm just waiting for them to fuck the rest of the 'Band of Brothers'. Just wait.
Barndog, Troll Destroyer

Was just thinking along those lines. Old Guard no likey Young Turks. Have they noticed Lamont yet, I wonder?

GravatarAnyone hear of an allegation that Nussle got one of his staffers (don't know if it's campaign or House) pregnant?

GravatarRudy,

Agreed. But in order to get the MSM to report they first have to get their attention. You know, something a little outrageous? Well, not really outrageous, but extremely newsworthy.

GravatarBecause of the way the DNC handled the Hackett race, and earlier, the Casey/Pennachio race, I'm not sending any money to the national party.

I have and will contribute to specific races, based on info from here, ActBlue, MoveOn, etc.

GravatarNewt was an academic, out of place amongst the argle-bargle. His rhetorical "skills" were decidedly impolitic.

that's being kind. Newt was an academic the way Britney Spears is a singer/John Ashcroft is a lyricist/Scooter Libby is a novelist.

Gravatar"the other part of the story is that when newt released the contract from america the press treated it and him like moses coming down from the mountain
Atrios"

true enuf...but the dems have never held the goopers accountable for their duplicity for things in the cotract like term limits...iirc, none of them retired after their self imposed term limits were up.

gingrich set the party up beautifully by oppossing clinton from day 1...gays in the military, hillarycare, etc...every last missstep was amplified.

the chimp has had no shortage of missteps, but there's been very little vocal oppossition that they've resonated enuf to take the advantage of it the way gingrich did..

Gravataroutrageous, but extremely newsworthy.

I'm for the Dems doing whatever it takes to shake-up the MSM and reach the people.

GravatarRuss Feingold seems to be the only Dem willing to take on the Bushboy regime and their despotic attempt to compromise civil liberties with the mis-named "Patriot Act."

he certainly deserves props, but his appearance on maher's show last nite i found very underwhelming. maher tried to engage him in making a commitment to global warming issues and feingold's response was a mushy fucking statement that said absolutely nothing.

GravatarHi guys. Got in a car accident last night. You will not believe what happened.

I'm driving down a two-lane state road, going about 40. It's about 9, 9:15. I come around a bend in the road and I see something, but I'm not sure what, 5 feet in front of me. Swerved a little bit, but not too much because there was oncoming traffic, hit something, HARD, and blew out the two passenger side tires and rims.

Well, it turns out (there were a bunch of witnesses at a gas station right across the street) that just moments before I rounded the curve, some #$%&#%$ teenagers in a Honda Civic (plate number beginning with 846) drove into the parking lot of a little strip mall right at this curve, two of the kids in the back seat jumped out, ran into this landscaped sign area, picked up a huge boulder (it weighed at least 50 pounds), threw it in the middle of the road, and peeled off. One guy at the gas station tried to follow them, and a dad in a station wagon was just getting ready to cross the road and try and roll it back into the grass when I came along.

The cops showed up eventually but they weren't very optimistic about catching them.

Car is being towed as we speak. Lord knows how much it will cost.

And, so, that was my Friday evening.

Gravatar"Because of the way the DNC handled the Hackett race,"

it wasn't the dnc, so don't take it out on them...tje dccc and dscc were involved, tho...

"I'm just waiting for them to fuck the rest of the 'Band of Brothers'. Just wait.
Barndog, Troll Destroyer"

i dunno if they'll fuck them, but i did see a diary at kos where they had an 'event' in dc...as usualy, the dems fuck it up by announcing it a whole 24 hours before the event, so that people who might have wanted to attend were given short notice...

from the pics, it sure didn't depict any crowd being present...it was pathetic.

now, you'd think that having so many vets would be HUGELY important for the dems at this point in time..EVERY voter should know this...but do they? i doubt it.....

Gravatarbut, teh right-wingers cater to base emptions and ignorance - of which in murka there is an abundance....

progressives don't offer feel-good knee-jerk ignorant solutions - thus they don't look good...

bottom line - in murka teh dems win when the gop fucks up - teh st00pids murkans will not by and of themselves vote dem - they only vote dem when teh gop has already fucked up and thus teh dem is the seeming only alternative...

/rage off

GravatarTJ,

That is horrible. I hope they catch them today.

Gravatar"that's being kind"

But "pseudo-intellectual neo-conservative fraud" takes so damn long to type. Can't we just say; "Failed talkshow host?"

Gravataroh, goddammit, TJ. Fucking little monsters.

I'm sorry.

GravatarSorry TJ, hope the "damage" isn't too bad.

GravatarThe Dems could get out and tell us how they feel about our National Security. Protect our borders should be number 1. The Bush cabal doesn't give a flip. It's all about exchanging money with the foreigners. Meanwhile, Rome burns with illegals.

GravatarWanna Oreo, anybody?

looks like you could get one purty cheap today, if you had a glass of milk...

GravatarJeeze, TJ, hope you're okay.

GravatarA walking tour.

Gravatarthanks guys. I'm wavering between rage and despair. right now I'm just hoping I didn't damage the undercarriage, and that all I'll have to spring for are new tires, rims and probably an alignment.

and get this. I ask the sheriff's deputy if they'll call me if they catch them, and he's like, no, you'll just have to check back with us. have a nice evening.

GravatarFucking little monsters.

Raised by republicans, I'm sure.

GravatarI ask the sheriff's deputy if they'll call me if they catch them, and he's like, no, you'll just have to check back with us.

They're too busy rewriting all those reports of Republican drunk driving and spousal abuse.

GravatarThere was a U.S. Border Patrol Guard protecting Sneer's quail shoot/orgy/boozefest. I wonder if there's always one on duty.

GravatarThey've been busy gangbanging ever since 94 and I'm a little tired of it.

GravatarMan TJ,

Hope all that happened was the flat tires.

GravatarPsssst! Today's Atrios' birthday!

pass it on.

GravatarHAPPY, HAPPY!

Happy Birthday, Atrios!

GravatarDamn, TJ. At least you're OK - a car can be fixed.

Sad about the stupidity of those kids - what were they thinking?

GravatarHappy Birthday, Atrios!

GravatarOnly thing I can figure is it's like the son of the sheriff or something.

Which wouldn't be too surprising, actually.

GravatarThe religious factor in all this GOP sack of lies needs to stop too. Dems would do well to call them on the hatred and taking out of context. Use the Bible texts and point out to them exactly what God says about a leader. Which is DEFINITELY not the current Majority.

Gravatari say try another tactic...jiujitsu the evils teh gop has done:

30000 dead in iraq not enough for ya?
with abu ghraib and gitmo, can we really say we have the moral high ground?
security and freedom are complementary - when one is increased the other is decreased.

we need a dem rager who can take the 'positive' talking points of teh gop and show teh st00pids that they are wrong and make the explanation simple

GravatarSorry, TJ!! That sucks. You should have informed the sheriff that you were already driven fron your home and job in NO. Can't he be a bit more accommodating, for fuck's sake?

On another note, I just read a partial list of Duke Cunningham's crimes at TPM.

Jebus. In one case, even his staffers thought he was out of bounds and tried to correct his abuse.

call your insurance company and explain it to 'em. Don't ask; fucking TELL them to put an investigator on the case. DO NOT take 'no' for an answer. If they aren't caught and castrated these little shitwhistles are gonna KILL somebody...
.

GravatarFor NYMary_

The worst part is Hackett was recruited by the Dem leadership for the senate race! Hackett contacted Sherrod Brown, Brown didn't want to run b/c of bad poll #s, so Hackett decided to. Then, Brown changed his mind, Shumer contacted Hackett's donors and told them to back Brown, and Hackett said Fuck that, since they wanted him to bump the other guy against Schmidt, but had given his word that he wouldn't . Bottom line--we are screwed.

GravatarSad about the stupidity of those kids - what were they thinking?
Stinky

Yup. The witnesses (who were all super-nice, and waited with me for the frigging hour it took for the cops to show up) were all like, "WTF? Did those kids just throw a rock in the road?" It was surreal.

I just consider myself lucky I didn't flip the car or swerve too far and have a head-on collision. It was a big ass rock.

You know, the kind that exemplify Bobo's concept of good ole God fearing middle class American values.

GravatarI just consider myself lucky I didn't flip the car or swerve too far and have a head-on collision.

exactly. there was a case not too long ago where some idiot kid threw a frozen turkey off an overpass and nearly killed the woman whose car it hit.

Her face all mangled from the accident, she forgave him in court. that kid was never so repentant as he was right then.

GravatarHackett coulda backed Schumer & those guys down- if they are really the punks we keep saying they are. He could have *run* on that. He should have stayed in. He's faced lots worse.

Meanwhile, with everyone looking for a photo of Bush and Abramoff smiling at each other, the fact that gets no attention is that

BUSH APPOINTED HIM TO HIS TRANSITION TEAM!

http://tinyurl.com/cuunk

"After the 2000 election, Abramoff was named to the Bush transition team for the Interior Department, which regulates the Indian casinos that paid Abramoff his inflated fees."

It was this appointment that enabled Abramoff to steal the tribes blind, and Bush was responsible. Whether they chatted about each other's kids is beside the point. Bush gave him a loaded gun.

I have e-mailed Atrios and Media Matters asking why they don't push this connection and they have never even responded.

GravatarTJ, if you've got a partial plate number and a make and model of a car, you could probably call the DMV yourself and find out who the car is registered to.

GravatarSad about the stupidity of those kids - what were they thinking?

not 'stupid'!
fucking malign, evil little shits...
somebody needs to beat 'em til they're bloody rags...

GravatarOnly thing I can figure is it's like the son of the sheriff or something.
TJ

Chances are the kids live somewhere in the general area of the crime.

GravatarOh, TJ, sorry to hear it. I don't understand kids who would do shit like that, and didn't when I was a kid, either. Idiots, pure idiots. They ought to spend some tours in the ER, watching the accident victims come in. No excuse.

GravatarHappy 34th birthday, Atrios.

It seems like we were just sending you felicitations. How time flies.

GravatarTJ, if you've got a partial plate number and a make and model of a car, you could probably call the DMV yourself and find out who the car is registered to.
Stinky | 02.18.06 - 10:02 am

ya usta be able to do that...
but i think laws in most states changed, and ya gotta have an official connection, like being a cop, anymore...

but in SouthCar, who knows...it's still 1850 in most of that fucking state...
.

Gravatar"BUSH APPOINTED HIM TO HIS TRANSITION TEAM!"

And yet they won't get on the soap box about Gonzo al Ass refusing to turn over the investigation. I simply don't get it.

GravatarTJ - the boulder in the road is different from IED's in the roadside in iraq, how?

those kids who did that shit have the same ignorant attitude as do the 'insurgents' in iraq...even worse since they had no reason to do it - it was just fun to them

fundamental ignorance is blind - it knows no race nor borders

Gravatarnone of them retired after their self imposed term limits were up.

I think Joe Scarborough mentioned something about keeping his word on term limits when he left...

GravatarAtrios's birthday is one day after my mothers.

Not that this means anything. Except that I like Atrios's politics better than my mother's FoxNews fed politics.

So I guess what I am saying is that Atrios's birthday is really just about me.

I feel like Dick Cheney.

GravatarIt seems like we were just sending you felicitations. How time flies.

the older you get, the faster it goes...

GravatarIF FEBRUARY 18 IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: You are ideally situated to cash in on your popularity or rest on your laurels in the year ahead. Win extra recognition for your business efforts or look for a new job in July and August, and if you are single you might hook up with ``the one.'' Avoid starting anything of significance during the last four days of August. In November you may be offered an opportunity that will boost your overall prosperity permanently, receive unexpected help or realize long-awaited dreams.

GravatarAs long as the dems continue to do nothing about the e-voting problem, nothing else matters. Let's just cancel the elections and give all the money saved to the wealthy.

GravatarSee if you tell which of these men used a shotgun to shoot a 78-year-old man in the face:

http://www.iflipflop.com/ cheney_...y_auschwitz.jpg

GravatarOy, the dems should be doing this and the dems should be doing that...

Bottom line: the dems aren't doing any of these things and, more than likely, they won't unless they are somehow forced to.

GravatarI feel like Dick Cheney.

Atrios should apologize to you then for being born.

Jebus, I hope it's today. Wouldn't that be embarrassing if it were actually tomorrow.

Fire crew sits idly by as resident faces blaze

Flames injure man who says he didn't know to pay dues.

NEWS-LEADER STAFF AND WIRES

Firefighters near Monett stood by and watched a fire destroy a garage and a vehicle because the property owner, who was injured battling the flames, had not paid membership dues.
Monett Rural Fire Department Chief Ronnie Myers defended the policy, saying the membership-based organization could not survive if people thought the department would respond for free. The department said it will fight a fire without question if a life is believed to be in danger.

Myers said he would make an effort to explain the membership policy to the area's new Hispanic residents after the property's owner, Bibaldo Rueda, said he had never been told of the dues policy since moving there 1 1/2 years ago.

Barry County Sheriff's Detective Robert Evenson said the fire broke out Monday on four acres owned by Rueda south of Monett, about 40 miles southwest of Springfield.

Four mobile homes and a number of vehicles were on the property. Rueda managed to get one mobile home out of danger, using a garden hose and buckets, but was burned in the process, Evenson said.

The Monett Rural Fire Department responded to the scene but did not fight the fire. Firefighters stood by as the fire burned itself out, watching in case the flames spread to neighboring properties owned by members.

but until we change the media, the country will never change.

Therefore:
the media will not change, so therefore things will never change. (Enthymemically speaking)

I have posted this paragraph before, but it is worth (IMHO) repeating ad infinitum.

The truth did not die in a day; not even in a year or a decade: In fact, it is extremely difficult to know when the truth, as an entity, ceased to exist in any meaningful fashion. Regardless of how long it took, its death was inevitable and the fact remains, truth as a political entity is surely dead. For truth, in all of its manifestations, does not lend itself to equivocation. Without equivocation we are left with very little. The only truth remaining after these tortured explanations have been vetted is that there is no truth, for the truth ceased to exist at the moment when what passes for news became nothing more than flash and repetition. If something is said often enough, with proper fervor, and in a venue that lends itself to a tacit acceptance of the lie: the lie becomes and truth and the truth becomes irrelevant.

GravatarAs long as the dems continue to do nothing about the e-voting problem, nothing else matters

GravatarPeasantParty, didn't a whole list of Dems write to Gonzo demanding that he recuse himself from the Abramoff case and appoint a special prosecutor?

BushCo crooks do not listen to the opposition, and they do not listen to the people. They just do what they want to do. Anyone with any scruples has already been pushed out.

GravatarSree over at Poynter has a list of TV-related blogs that might be useful for tracking what's going on on the tube:

Gravatar"As long as the dems continue to do nothing about the e-voting problem, nothing else matters. Let's just cancel the elections and give all the money saved to the wealthy.

Conyers spent all that time on hearings. What did he do with it? Where is it at? Who is checking on it now? When are they going to get the crap changed? Why the delay?
How is it that this has taken so long?

Who
What
When
Where
Why
How

Okay, America just wants the facts, Ma'am.

GravatarOther photographs included a picture of Bush and Abramoff standing together with “Cheshire cat grins”; pictures of Bush and what Abramoff characterized as the “bearded fatter me”; a picture of Bush chatting with Abramoff’s twin daughters (“Oh, you are twins; I have twins,” Abramoff quoted Bush as saying); a picture of Bush, House speaker Dennis Hastert, and Abramoff’s children; and a picture of Laura Bush with Abramoff’s wife, Pam, and the twin girls, who had led the Pledge of Allegiance at the event (said Abramoff: “Laura went ga-ga over their being twins”).

Laura went ga-ga because she short-circuited.

GravatarOh yeah, happy birthday, Atrios. May you have many more and may your wishes become reality.

Gravatar"the House Bank and Post Office scandals"

Of course these weren't scandals at all but just lies and BS and the Merikan folks don't ever read anything about what really went on.

Republicans win because they are inveterate liars, they take advantage of the nonreading public, and the media supports them. We should throw the media out along with Big Time and his boys.

GravatarTJ-

Have you apologized to the boulder yet?

GravatarHappy

GravatarJebus, I hope it's today.

It is.

I recall the real bank scandal being a Bush family member.

Gravatar"What happened to Hackett???"

Depends upon who one believes.

Gravatarhappy birthday, kurt.

34? spring chicken! enjoy every day, cause each year they go faster and faster...

GravatarNobody wants the 2008 GOP Convention.

Gravatarscarborough's term limit was spelled 'Laurie Klausutis'
WoodyGuthrie'sGuitar(aka

Gary Condit resigns in disgrace, fades into obscurity after Chandra Levy. Joe Scarborough leaves congress, divorces his wife and gets a slot pimping "family values" on MSNBC after a healthy 28-year-old marathon runner and congressional aid named Laurie Klausutis dies of, ahem, natural causes in his office.

Curious.

GravatarCalled insurance company and placed them on notice. They will investigate if damages are above the deductible.

Called sheriff's office and got the run-around. They claim someone will be in touch on Monday.

and, birthday owls.

GravatarNobody wants the 2008 GOP Convention.

Maybe they can hold it at Gitmo.

GravatarAnd when they published the picture of Bush shaking the chief's hand, with Abramoff standing in the background grinning, the story was:

'It's not clear how Abramoff managed to get in to see the president with his client, the indian chief'

Maybe it's because, in 2000,

"BUSH APPOINTED HIM TO HIS TRANSITION TEAM!"

Yeah, that's one place they really support.

GravatarFirefighters near Monett stood by and watched a fire destroy a garage and a vehicle because the property owner, who was injured battling the flames, had not paid membership dues.

Privatized Fire Departments. Tip of the iceburg. Olivia Butler described just this sort of thing in "Parable of the Sower." House burgled. Sorry charlie, unless you can pay for the investigation yourself, the police will do nothing. And what was I reading about a new cancer drug that big pharma is gonna charge the heck out of because you should be willing to pay for a cure. They're not even pretending it is to cover r&d.

Gravatar"Happy Birthday Mr. Black, Happy Birthday to you, to make your birthday turn out good I give this present to you!"

Gravatar"Nobody wants the 2008 GOP Convention."

They ought to have it in New Orleans.

GravatarRude pundit yesterday:
[snip]
In her latest "column" (if by "column," you mean, "Tourette's-like outbursts of deranged diarrhea emanating from the sphincter of a nicotine-stained conservative meat puppet"), Ann Coulter may as well be that nutzoid on the corner. The blonde dye chemicals and hair straightener must have finally eaten their way to her brain, for Coulter just goes completely Nazi on the Muslim world. "The 'offense to Islam' ruse is merely an excuse for Muslims to revert to their default mode: rioting and setting things on fire," Coulter coughs up like a rancid hairball.

GravatarSpinoza, I love your ability to gently and diplomatically describe the truth.

GravatarDo "Dems Need A Newt Of Their Own?"

Dunno, but would suggest the Media needs a Washington Post because you can't have a Democracy without Journalism.

Easy for me to say, of course. I don't have contacts in the government that will shun me or smear me if I don't play ball.

GravatarI love it.

The man's name is now:

Bush Appointee Jack Abramoff

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp...6010501903.html

"After the 2000 election, Abramoff was named to the Bush transition team for the Interior Department, which regulates the Indian casinos that paid Abramoff his inflated fees."

But no, he didn’t know they guy.

Bush Appointee Jack Abramoff

Your government is corrupt.

This is the meme.

Replicate.

GravatarThe problem is that the Democratic party is the party of insiders, of the establishment. Democrats in the netroots are the revolutionaries.

That's really all you need to know about (1) why the netroots movement exists, (2) why the party insiders hate and fear us, and (3) why the Democrats won't do as well in 2006 as they could.

Vive la révolution!

GravatarThe Dems' "problem" is that they like governing and government -- they like figuring out ways to make it work for people -- and they're not destroyers.

Newt is a destroyer -- look how much trouble he had once he actually had the power he wanted so badly.

GravatarThe new Newt could have been Paul fucking Hackett! But they blew that popcicle stand. Now the motherfucker is going on TV blasting Dems to Tweety Boy, saying they are using veterans as pawns.

You got a fucking problem with that motherfucker?
