Why isn't it treason to do what Cunningham has done? The fucking Repugs are always talking about how free speech hurts our WOT - doesn't this kind of shit hurt a war, any war, effort much worse?
This should be treason, along with fucking with our elections.

The price of the US failure to control [Iraq] is patent economic failure. But it doesn’t end there. The cost of the war has exploded. Bush estimated that it would cost between 50 and 60 billion dollars. But 251 billion has already been spent according to a study by economists Laura Bilmes and Nobel prizewinner Joseph Stiglitz cited by Martin Wolf in the Financial Times. If the Bush administration decides to keep its troops in Iraq for another five years, it was cost $200 to $270 billion more. To this must be added the cost of care to the wounded, military pensions, and the replacement of military matériel estimated at 700 billion to 1.2 trillion dollars: ten times more than the net contribution by rich nations towards development assistance. Vicki--trying to find the right words downstairs took me so long that everyone flew off...
Vicki, I'm so sorry. One of my closest friends has a seizure disorder. She travels with me and the girls to California each summer to visit my folks. Two summers ago, she had a seizure in the airport when we were coming home. It was pretty awful. Actually, she has had her two biggest ones in recent years after air travel. Her doctors said that there is sometimes a connection. Did your cousin fly to Colorado? Or even the change in altitude could be the culprit. It always so scary when no one can figure out the problem.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

For numerous reasons. The point of the military is that you worry about being able to move to and stay at certain places, rather than do things efficiently in a private industry sense. So food has to stay on the shelf for months, then be eaten all at once, and so on. Also, war itself is the most destructive thing a nation can do. We heard they didn't farm in France for years after each of the World Wars.

I'll say it again - war is humankind's most futile endeavor. Not one war has produced a lasting solution to the problem it was fought over. Not one.
War just gives birth to a whole new set of problems and they are usually worse than the one that the fighting was about.

Democrats will never take advantage of situations like Cunningham's because many of them actually envied the money and control that Cunningham was getting. To attack this subject means risking not being able to rack in those same bucks and guarantees of campaign support down the line.
This is why almost all of the big name democrats have to go.
They're really just as corrupt as the repugs but are simply willing to toss more scraps from the table towards the lower life forms that work for a living.
....and this court in sentencing Mr. Cunningham has to make an example of what will happen to any American who happens to be a decorated Veteran who happens to be a Congressman who takes bribes from a military contractor during a time of war: Mr. Cunningham you are sentenced to the maximum that federal law permits, 10 years in a federal penitentiary, with no possible time off, and upon release, your parole will have many restrictions including never having contact with any military contractor or lobbying firm. Further more this court rules that your picture or likeness will be used in dramatic PDS ads showing all Americans what a war profiteer who takes bribes during a time of war looks like.

I disagree.
And I think both the japanese and the Germans will disagree as well.
I also think the people of Kosovo would disagree as well as those around the former Yugoslavia which was in turmoil for most of the 90's until Clinton did something about it.
It's not that war can't solve it.
It's the reasons for the war, the way the war is fought, and the way the post-war is handled.
Far cry from Helly Ba-buh and his fawning over the president after the storm.
