At the rate that President Bush is going, Iran will be a global superpower before too long. For all of the axis-of-evil rhetoric that has come out of the White House, the reality is that the Bush administration has done more to empower Iran than its most ambitious ayatollah could have dared to imagine. Tehran will be able to look back at the Bush years as a golden era full of boosts from America, its unlikely ally.
During the period before the Iraq invasion, the president gave lip service to the idea that Iran and Iraq were both threats to American security. But his advisers, intent on carrying out their long-deferred dream of toppling Saddam Hussein, gave scant thought to what might happen if their plans did not lead to the unified, peaceful, pro-Western democracy of their imaginings. The answer, though, is now rather apparent: a squabbling, divided country in which the Shiite majority in the oil-rich south finds much more in common with its fellow Shiites in Iran than with the Sunni Muslims with whom it needs to form an Iraqi government.

even if iran gets nuclear weapons it will not be any kind of threat to the united states. you could put the plebe class at annapolis in charge of defending against the iranian nuclear threat and they would do a fine job.

I just flipped through CSPAN where Pat Buchanan is debating Tom Daschle. Buchanan opened with a lot of kneeslappers about Watergate, and then told Daschle that Bush could be in worse trouble, cause after all, Scooter Libby is no Monica Lewinski.

freedom fighter (um, just as a side note, why do you fight freedom? I thought we thought freedom was a good thing.) you will no doubt be both surprised and gratified to know that i join you in wishing, indeed begging the Cosmos daily, for the continue good health of Messrs. Bush and Cheney.
Because if you knew any history you would realize that the only thing that could possibly get BushCheneyCo a remotely favorable nod in the American public mind and future history books, is martyrdom. It does wonders for the reputation as people fall into that "don't speak ill of the dead" routine. Abraham Lincoln would probably have been impeached in his second term if he hadn't (a) had a Democrat for VP and (2) been dead and all. Kennedy likewise was probably on his way to being a one-termer, between Bay of Pigs, the terror of the Cuban Missle Crisis, sexual misdeeds so blatant that somebody eventually would have leaked it where it would be published, etc.
So I want Bush to live a long and healthy life. Note that was "healthy," not "happy," because I still want him to get everything he deserves in this life.
