Gravatar... Hey Moonbats!
Wasn't that a great show!

Roadmaster was a great interviewer and wonderful NOLA music.
lb0313 was just terrific!
And I think I did pretty darn good

GravatarI wonder what lead to Franklin Roosevelt's popularity? What qualities would "our" Roosevelt have to have to bring us back from the brink?

GravatarBlogwhored it once, why not twice?

Real uglry set of revelations there, most of them implied but not quite made.

I suppose that's how journalism works at the NYT.

GravatarTask Force 6-26
Before and After Abu Ghraib, a U.S. Unit Abused Detainees

By ERIC SCHMITT and CAROLYN MARSHALL
Published: March 19, 2006
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/ 1...agewanted=print
As the Iraqi insurgency intensified in early 2004, an elite Special Operations forces unit converted one of Saddam Hussein's former military bases near Baghdad into a top-secret detention center. There, American soldiers made one of the former Iraqi government's torture chambers into their own interrogation cell. They named it the Black Room.

snip

The new account reveals the extent to which the unit members mistreated prisoners months before and after the photographs of abuse from Abu Ghraib were made public in April 2004, and it helps belie the original Pentagon assertions that abuse was confined to a small number of rogue reservists at Abu Ghraib.

etc.

Yes you did! Great interview. Great music too.

GravatarThe New York Times has retracted an anti-American cover story only a week after it was published. The Times thought it plausible to defend its error by claiming reliance on PBS and Vanity Fair.

In other words, the Times didn't bother to do its own research; it relied on the "independent" reporting of PBS and Vanity Fair -- wait, I can't even write that with a straight face -- to identify Qaissi as the man in the photograph.

Indeed, it sounds like something a blogger would do.

GravatarBut, technically, you're under JP.

C-I-L yo landlord?

GravatarAtrios hitting the chocolate covered espresso beans again, I see.

GravatarWTF? That was in Saturday's NYT which I blogged about earlier today.

GravatarFrom Firedoglake:

"According to the Pew Research Center for People and the Press, George W. Bush's overall approval rating stands now at 33%. That's 9% among democrats, 26% among independents and 73% among Republicans."

3/4 of independents think Bush is a disaster while 3/4 of Republicans approve.

This is pretty clear evidence that it's Republicans who are extreme and out of the mainstream, so why don't we hear Democrats ridiculing them, like they have done to us for years?

Time to grow a pair, and learn the power of scorn.

GravatarAs if nabbing Zarqawi would end terrorism. The hope was to grab the guy for political bragging rights in the US. That's why we torture.
.

GravatarWhat are you going to do? What about Curly?

GravatarScout,

you were fantastic! Clear, articulate, provided details...and Lisa did equally well.

You were a great team. And Roadmaster was a great interviewer. A helluva lot better than what appeared to be in the making with She Who Shall Not Be Named.

GravatarNTodd: C-I-L yo landlord?

Naw, he's a good dude. He's been very understanding, but he just needs some cash.
.

GravatarIt was three years ago yesterday that Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old native of Washington state, died in a bulldozer accident in which she was at fault. Corrie had been standing in front of an Israeli bulldozer that was destroying tunnels used to smuggle weapons from Egypt to terrorists in the Gaza strip.

GravatarScout, you've got mail.

Watch out or you'll polish off the rest of those papadam chips, all the Luna bars, and whatever other goodies we picked up tonight ... all while asleep.

GravatarAlso, Corrie wanted to die because of her infection by the racially inferior Culture of Death.
Also, the D-4 armored bulldozer driver couldn't see where he was driving, and when he backed the blade over her he was just trying to see -- er, hear, because he couldn't see -- that she was alright.

GravatarJeffraham--you can't abandon Curly, no matter what. You just can't.

GravatarAthenae....Roadmaster and I were laughing and rocking to Ride your pony! That was great.

Roadmaster is going to do a MP3 of the show. I think we should make use of that song on the blog when he gets the mp3 done

GravatarSallyh: Jeffraham--how much do you need?

I'm guessing $700 buys me 30 more days, but... I don't know.
.

Gravatarscout prime |

You're doin' a heckuva job!

.

GravatarJeffraham--would $300 help you out?

GravatarGeorge W. Bush's overall approval rating stands now at 33%.

If the Democrats fail to regain control of Congress in 2006, it will be a defeat of historic proportions. They are a shoo-in.

GravatarI don't know how to react to this...

The ousted editor of the University of Saskatchewan's campus newspaper, the Sheaf, apologized Thursday for the "unintentional" publication of a cartoon depicting Jesus Christ performing a sex act on a pig.

I'm tending towards laughter at this point.

GravatarNTodd: That blows. Have you tried a fundraiser?

Naw... I feel bad about all the generosity that was bestowed upon me last summer. I guess I figure it's just time to admit defeat, and figure out my next move.

Check with your local social services agency. They often have emergency funds available. Better to keep you where you are than fund you on the street the thinking goes. It depends on where you live though.

Also, you do have tennant rights. You can't be made to leave the premises immediately. You have 3 day pay or quit notices. Unlawful writ of detainers (60 days as I recall), so you do have some time. That said, you'll loose any chance of a good referral from your landlord if you go that route.

What about your local employment development agency, or temps. Those can offer immediate employment if low paying. The point is, it's much easier to find work when you have a place to live than when you don't.

There are options in other words.

Also

GravatarAgent Orange...thank you. Heckuva lotta fun too

GravatarJeffraham,

I hear you. I've been there a couple of times in the past 20 years -- once through layoff after almost 20 years with the company and the second time 10 years later after losing another job.

Everytime you've mentioned something about this, I cringe, because I know how you feel. For a long time awhile back, I lost the ability to pray (I had lost the sense or faith in a personal God) -- it's coming back as life brings an easing to suffering.

Lately, I've enjoyed your postings of Curly and your comments about him as well as your comments here at Atrios. I've wondered what I could possibly say to you to encourage you or give you hope.

You've been in my thoughts and prayers.

You must hang in therre and have faith (somehow!) that "this too shall pass." Because it DOES. Somehow you get through it and somehow something works out and pulls you through. Sometimes it's something you thought you'd never be able to stand -- I had to move back home with my mother for several years - a one bedroom with twin beds. I fought it tooth and nail because I couldn't find a job. Finally, severance and savings ran out and I had to do it. It turned out to be something very special, although not always comfortable, it's true.

Please keep faith in yourself and your place in this world. Something will work for you, I promise. Be open to possibilities and ready for change.

Hope this helps!

GravatarThis is pretty clear evidence that it's Republicans who are extreme and out of the mainstream, so why don't we hear Democrats ridiculing them, like they have done to us for years?

I have reached the conclusion that most Democratic politicians do not want to be in the majority. They know their own seats are safe, and they like the perquisites of power (such as they have), so they are willing to sit back and let the Republicans rule.

GravatarJeffraham--have you checked the Emergency Shelter Grants? (615) 313-4759

How are you?

GravatarYou know how rightie-tighties compare the WoT with WWII? I don't think they realize we're the Germans this time.

GravatarIf you have a late model car with positive equity, you can always "mouse house" it. That is, refinance and usary rates to buy some time. You have to follow-up though as the car will be held against the debt, which is usually short term, high interest credit.

Similarly, if you do have good equity, sell it and buy a beater.

Don't know your circumstances, but it sounds like you're trying to make a living of advertising on a blog. You may want to rethink that strategy, but then you've likely thought about that already.

The Germans had cool uniforms. Those boots...

GravatarIf it came out that Israel realy was just gassing Palestinians -- and they would never do that, but if they did -- that very hour, we would be bombarded by explanations of how it wasn't happening, but it was happening but not like you think, but it was for a good cause, but the gassed asked for it by their conduct, and you'll be grateful for it before it's all over.
When did all the Chinese people in the media bend over backwards to explain how Tiananmen was good for students?
This will be what brings anti-Semitism back, not the drunks in the woods with no influence and no hope of influence fetishized as true pure academically defined fascism by mainstream respectables like Orcinus, but the fact that every time you hear something bad about Israel you are reminded instantly thereafter that there is nothing the American Jewish community doesn't feel obligated to apologize for.
No matter how stupid it is, even if it's a policy that former SB chiefs don't like, no matter how obvious it is that Israel screwed up or did it on purpose, no matter how close they get to sounding like a guilty four year old bending the laws of nature to explain why a hand in a cookie jar is not a hand in a cookie jar.
We can tell that these spring-loaded spokesmen aren't the same thing as all Jews. How many other Americans can, and how many will bother to as our deeply bizarre and unique relationship becomes more expensive?

GravatarJeffraham,

I note the positive suggestions of Sallyh and Al Swearingen. Be sure to check out social services -- a friend dragged me kicking and screaming to get food stamps and emergency aid -- I didn't even know I was entitled to them, I'd been working all my life before that. That helped tide me over until I could apply for disability (you may be entitled to that if you are suffering from depression, etc.) Check you county resources for those avenues, too. If you have a county doctor behind you, they can back you up on the paperwork you submit.

Gravatarpolitica's male?

GravatarPatriot Act Game Pokes Fun at Government
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ 20060...atriot_act_game

HAMILTON, N.J. - In this send-up of "Monopoly," players don't pass "Go" and they don't go directly to jail — they go to Guantanamo Bay.

Instead of losing cash for landing on certain squares, they lose civil liberties. And the "Mr. Monopoly" character at the center of the board is replaced by a scowling former Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"Patriot Act: The Home Version" pokes fun at "the historic abuse of governmental powers" by the recently renewed anti-terrorism law...

In a nod to President Bush's prewar comments, the "Go" space in is renamed "Bring It On!" Players roll the dice to determine how many civil liberties they start out with, accumulating them from a variety of categories: U.S. citizens get 5; non-citizens 1. Whites and Asians get 5; Arabs 1. Ultra right-wingers get 6; Democrats 3 or 4.

Instead of landing on, say Oriental Avenue, players land on a color-coded spaces corresponding to the national terror alert. A player who lands on a red space loses one civil liberty, as does anyone else within five spaces. A player who lands on an orange space gets to designate another player to lose one civil liberty.

"Chance" cards are now " Homeland Security Cards," with orders such as, " FBI wants you for questioning; Lose one turn;" and "You provide the local authorities with speculative information on your next door neighbor; Collect one civil liberty from each player."

But why have an intelligent argument about our security vs. Israel's security and our interests vs. their interests and where the two intersect and what's to be done about both, when you can scream "anti-Semite!" and "racist!" at each other?

This, and abortion, I despair of ever having a sensible conversation on. So loaded, it's impossible to start anywhere without pissing somebody off. Add in our weird political discourse overall at the moment, in which there are no facts anymore, and everybody's opinion is just as valid as everybody else's, and nine-tenths of America could give a shit, really, and you've got a Stupid Soufflé that could drive the most determinedly sober to swallow the tequila worm.

Here's why there's hope: thew problem of the Israeli lobby, with its great salvos of money, is actually the same as thew problem of restoring democracy to our elections. We want to sidestep the lobbyists by using popular power to drown out the effect of money, of which one agent of many is AIPAC. It's a lot of time and work but the destruction of AIPAC will work much the same way as the destruction of the DLC.

GravatarOxford lawyer has another whistleblower on his side

3/18/2006 9:20:24 AM
Daily Journal
http://www.djournal.com/pages/st...&pub=1& div=News
By MICHAEL KUNZELMAN
The Associated Press
MOSS POINT - Hollywood came calling after a whistleblower helped Oxford's Richard "Dickie" Scruggs win a multibillion-dollar settlement against tobacco companies.

Now Scruggs, whose landmark fight against the tobacco industry was portrayed in the 1999 movie "The Insider," is following the same script as he takes on insurance companies in Hurricane Katrina's wake.

Scruggs said a "highly placed insider" who works for a major insurance company is helping him build a case against companies that denied claims to thousands of policyholders whose homes were destroyed by the storm. The informant, Scruggs said, gave him copies of internal reports prepared by engineers who were hired by an insurance company to inspect storm-damaged homes.

According to Scruggs, engineers who "gave reports that the company didn't like were pressured to change their report on penalty of not having their bill paid and being terminated from lucrative business by the company," Scruggs said.

GravatarSallyh and Jeffraham,

I'm not sure about the proper channels in Tennessee. But I finally found out about them from the social services in my area. I took pride in hand and went with a friend.

It really sounds like you've got a good case for a disability claim. Depression masquerades as tiredness, inability to concentrate and think through solutions, etc.

When I lost my COBRA, I had to go to a county mental health facility to continue to get my antidepressants and the medications I need for ADHD, etc.

That was actually the beginning of finding the way back. The staff helped me submit the forms for SSDI (which surely Jeffraham would be entitled to after working for so many years). I have another friend who had the help of the mental health staff to get a claim that was initially rejected finally approved. He actually got a back settlement of his claim that enabled him to pay off his credit card debt almost to $40,000.

GravatarJeffraham - Stupid question, but you're not a veteran, are you? Getting anything through VBA takes time, but most VA medical centers have a welfare fund that can be accessed by social workers.

Gravatarcan't let a kitty go hungry

GravatarI'm in for $300!

Wow! Maybe I should have a fundraiser!

GravatarI can't afford to donate. I'm on disability, but I'm here for moral suppport and tips. I used to work with the homeless, so I know of various avenues.

Gravatar...steals 50 bucks from dave's pocket just for saying that....

GravatarAlright, I must take to my bed.

le side du flip.

GravatarSo is that PayPal link at Jeffraham's site valid?

Just asking because of the YouSaidIt.org label...

I can try. What type of job is he looking for and where? Nashville?

GravatarHey, does anyone know how to change your bank account on PayPal?

I need to take this out of the credit union, and that's not my regular account.

Gravatarsome people's browser settings will not allow them to donate on a secure/unsecure site depending on the link he used...

Gravatar...steals 50 bucks from dave's pocket just for saying that....

Hey, man, I got my own problems... I thought $50 was generous! 300's a real windfall!!!

Glad to have gotten the ball rolling, though...

Gravatar"I get refused when I try to click on feeding Curly."
Echidne of the snakes

I just tried to access it, Echidne, and I got in. Maybe everyone is trying at once and that clogs it up?

Gravatar Hey, does anyone know how to change your bank account on PayPal?

If you don't have multiple payment sources already entered, you need to go into your account settings and provide the account number and bank routing number.

GravatarYup - this is why I need to get cracking on my book about coping with poverty. Too many people fall into it without knowing what to do.

Make sure to include a chapter about the importance of having a social network! People always hate to admit they need help, but (as we can see) plenty of people are happy to do what they can. Until the flood, I was always in a position to offer help; being in a position to receive help was a difficult adjustment, but I was astonished by how generous people were.

just log in and go to your account settings, you'll see where they list your current card and how to change it, it's pretty simple.

GravatarNTodd--thank you, my dear.

GravatarWhat type of job is he looking for and where? Nashville?

Yeah... he's an IT type, if IIRC... also has experience in video editing.

GravatarYes Nashville catnip, not sure what his skills are yet.

Unless I missed an earlier post of his.

At this point in the month, I there with you, catnip. My SSDI deposit comes on the 3rd of the month and I had car repairs this month.

But come the 3rd, if I've got some extra, I'll send a donation, too.

GravatarEvacuee | 03.19.06 - 12:26 am | #

I've divided my book into two sections: one to deal with the emotional/spiritual/survival issues and the other to deal with concrete community resources.

I plan to set up a site as a central clearinghouse for North American resources and I don't expect to make money off the book. I'll make it available free for those who need it via download and possibly ask for donations from those who can chip in.

I've been there. I am there. I know how hard it is.

GravatarNTodd,

I've often thought about the Rethug response to the Corrie tragedy.

Is it that a woman was killed so horrifically that they are high-five celebrating?

Or a principled woman?

Or the fact that beautiful young girl would actually get off of her ass and plant her feet in the region where the evil-doers live, that gave them the heebeegeebees?

GravatarDammit, Paypal doesn't like the CU. I'll have to withdraw the money tomorrow and slip it into the commercial checking account.

GravatarWe can all click on Jeffraham's ads to increase his take.

GravatarBTW, no one should feel bad if they can't donate. No questions asked.

OTOH, don't feel you have to give a lot. A few fivers or ten-spots adds up!

Gravatar"Make sure to include a chapter about the importance of having a social network!"

A social network is really key. The problem is, most people who have been deluged by tragedy or life shattering events often tend to isolate themselves.

One of the things I found at the L.A. County mental health facility I've been going to was a way back to a network of supportive people who help one another with the problems they encounter.

GravatarPaypal gives me shit every time I've tried to use it. This time, it lets me get all the way through the process until I have to verify that I'm human, I guess, by typing in "the code you see below," and ain't no CODE.

Sally, or anybody else... Jeffr, if you're still here... moved anytime recently?

GravatarOkay, that time it worked. PayPal bites sometimes.

GravatarPaypal gives me shit every time I've tried to use it.

Me too. Luckily, their account hackers don't suffer the same fate.

GravatarHoly shit, the AP has an entire article on Bush's strawmen arguments.

GravatarSilleigh--not for 18 years.

GravatarA social network is really key. The problem is, most people who have been deluged by tragedy or life shattering events often tend to isolate themselves.

It's hard, but when I lived out in the country the internet was my social network. That really helped me out. I also don't/can't get out a lot now that I'm back in the city, so it's good to connect on some level at least.

GravatarSally, thanks. The address I've got should still be good, then.

Gravatarcatnip,

Good for you!

When you are dealing with crisis it's sometimes to overwhelming you can't think straight. It's wonderful to have a resource to go to.

But one of the problems I had was the inability to concentrate on reading material or even staying focused long enough to make sense of website information (that's actually also do to ADHD). But depression makes the problem worse.

Sometimes it's helpful to have a friend or relative sit with you to help you make sense of what you're dealing with.

I used to work as a psychiatric social worker. My patients/clients were always very isolated, and most of them said they wanted to be isolated. I tried to encourage them to interact socially with each other; I even assigned homework that involved calling each other. What finally made an impression on them was when I asked, "What would you do following a disaster, like if your house burned down?" Most of them were resigned to living under a bridge, until I pointed out that they could stay with friends (if they had friends).

It's one of the reasons I support the use of "clubhouse" model mental health organizations.

Yes, it's astonishing the hatred that comes out of the whole tragedy. Her story was something that caught my attention when I very first started blogging, and it's heartbreaking to me to this day. And now all the shit I see from the LGFers mocking Tom Fox, the Christian activist killed in Iraq, my mind continues to boggle...

Gravatar"It's hard, but when I lived out in the country the internet was my social network."

Absolutely! I've been amazed to see the interconnectedness of people here at Eschaton.

I'm not good with small talk, so often I just lurk and laugh at everyone else's antics, but I still feel part of the community.

Been there for too many years. I still have trouble concentrating.

Evacuee,

There's an organization of those clubhouses throughout N America. Now if only I could remember what they're called!

GravatarSallyh: Jeffraham--well, I've given you the email, phone # and address for housing assistance. There's a place to start.Thank you so much, Sallyh -- I think I used the food stamp calculator, there, and determined that I was eligible, already, but I didn't act on it. My sunny nobility (heh) has caused me far too much paralysis. Well, that and the suspension of my driver's license. No longer -- I will be making calls first thing Monday. Jeffraham--www.tennessee.gov/humanserv/
Thanks, again -- maybe their vocational rehab office can help, too! Also, Jeffraham, did you bother to apply for unemployment benefits? From the Spherion thing? I called, and was told I was under the minimum hours threshhold for the quarter -- another week or so would have made me eligible for a little bit of something for 13 weeks.
Jeffraham--Catholic Charities of TennSaved that URL, as well. Maybe they'll have a job for me, or can connect me with someone who does.
politica: What's your prefered skill?I can do a little of anything, except program -- I never could code worth a darn, and almost had a nervous breakdown when I was pressed into service doing so (well, in fairness, it was in a language that was being written on the fly, and changed daily, of not hourly). Not really a master at any one thing, but I'm good at using Photoshop and providing customer support/tech service. No certs, no degree... amazing that I managed to hold down a $60/yr. gig for so long, probably.
fourlegsgood: Jeffraham, what happened with the jobs at UPS and stuff like that?Like most things I've applied for, I haven't gotten any calls or interviews. It's tough for me to do follow-up calls, as my phone's been down for several months (the landlord's letting me use his number for contact, though).dave™©: So is there back rent?Yes. Fortunately, a huge amount of it was worked off when I helped the landlord with renovating another property last year, and again during the two months I was working. And, thank you for your show of support, but I think it's time for me to do this "on my own," so to speak, or figure out something. Everyone here's been awesome to me through my times of need, and I would hate to be a further burden. Silleigh: Jeffr: Are you still where you were last year? Location-wise?I moved in here last April 19th.
Again, thanks for all the support and concern -- there's no finer group of folks than what's assembled here. I'm convinced of that. However, I urge you not to dwell on my problems. Everyone's got their own problems to deal with, and if I were a better friend, I'd not even mention mine, here. I'm just scared, and I'm so thankful that people here care about me and are pointing me in the right directions. Things will eventualy work out, and I'll have all of you to thank -- again -- for it.
.

GravatarApparently pacifists deserve to die violently. Who would have thunk?

It's because they're fucking pussies!

Shit, the stuff they were saying about Quakers was just precious. Apparently we're assholes. I mean, I am, but I didn't realize I represented for all my peeps.

GravatarThe NYT had to followup after the Abu Ghraib imposter. They have to keep the US military on their toes. No letup.

Thanks to Atrios as usual for promoting the latest accusation. Who cares if he never prints a retraction for the fake scandals, the degenerate smears add to the color of desperation currently within the Democratic party elite.

Atrios supports the troops! Isn't it long past time for another Guantanemo scandal Duncan? Get to work with Media Matters on the latest smear!

GravatarJeffraham--seriously. You have GOT to be eligible for many of these benefits.

BTW, don't take Spherion at their word. Apply anyway. Employers will always tell you you can't get it.

GravatarJeffraham--this isn't a burden for us. It's your burden. We're just trying to make it a little less weighty.

GravatarHow long did they hold this story back? Or was the political bombshell of Bush's illegal wiretapping before the election a one-off withholding of major stories?

GravatarSallyh: BTW, don't take Spherion at their word. Apply anyway. Employers will always tell you you can't get it.

Oh, I didn't -- I called the unemployment office. Their number was in the separation package I got (same time as the Target gift card, etc.).
.

GravatarSallyh: Jeffraham--this isn't a burden for us. It's your burden. We're just trying to make it a little less weighty.

I know, and I really appreciate it. It just breaks my heart, is all. I know my labor/skills are worth $8-12/hr. to someone, but I seem to be uniformly failing to connect with that someone. That's all I would need to be comfortable, really. I surely don't mind living simply.

I just feel unworthy of all the kindness and help, really.
.

Gravatar...I urge you not to dwell on my problems.

This ain't about you - it's all about the cat!

GravatarJeff, please give me your damn address and I'll send you an actual physical hard copy check, I have so fucked up PayPal that it doesn't recognize me...arrgghhhh. Lord, it's hard to be an idiot like me...

But, let me help, please.

Thanks,
SD

Gravatarand, yes, Jeff, it's all about Curly - you are incidental!!!

GravatarJeff...krittikas@comcast.net.

Email me your address, please. Sorry to have to ask. I'm just fucking ioncompetent, y'know??

GravatarSarah--reach Jeffraham at jprestonian@gmail.com

GravatarBear in mind that most of the people we've jailed in Iraq were and are innocent of the things for which we've arrested them.

It's not even as if we're doing this crap to actual terrorists. We're doing it to regular Iraqi citizens -- who we will make into terrorists if this keeps up.

Oh, and cue the screaming right-wing loonies yammering about how This Will Hurt Our Troops By Inflaming The Iraqis. Hell, the Iraqis already know all this shit -- it's John and Jane Q. Public here in America that don't know it.

GravatarJeffraham,

My $.02, after you get yourself squared away with benefits (that I remind you, your tax dollars have already paid for) is that you hook up with your local workforce One Stop office.

The system is funded by the Workforce Investment Act, and in most states they have several job matching systems, career counselors, etc. that are at your disposal. They'll help you work up a resume, dig up job leads, and so forth. Also, if you qualify, they can get you a voucher for some additional training -- most places you can qualify for up to $5,000.

Here's a site that can get you started & email me if you'd like some more info

http://www.sctworkforce.org/#

Good luck and hang tough: It'll get better.

Gravatarpolitica -- Thank you for your efforts, and support. Would it be okay if I e-mail my resume to you? I just would like to make sure that your any effort you might want to make on my behalf would be efficient, and not unnecessarily burdensome.
.

Gravatarmore bad apples leaves me ashamed, again

GravatarThe money shot is buried deep within the story:

Despite the task force's access to a wide range of intelligence, its raids were often dry holes, yielding little if any intelligence and alienating ordinary Iraqis, Defense Department personnel said. Prisoners deemed no threat to American troops were often driven deep into the Iraqi desert at night and released, sometimes given $100 or more in American money for their trouble.

So it's not as if these folks were all terrorists. Most were innocent civilians.

What a way to win hearts and minds. NOT.

Gravatardriftglass: Good luck and hang tough: It'll get better.

Thank you, drifty -- they don't serve my county, but I found a link to the Mid-TN Career Centers' website, there. I've just filed a resume with them, and will call their office on Monday.
