hacktacular NYT begins an article on the Page Six scandal but veers into
The Clintons have a somewhat checkered history of investing with personal associates. An investment in the failed Arkansas real estate deal known as Whitewater led to a government investigation that nearly brought down Mr. Clinton's presidency and left the couple with millions of dollars in legal bills. During their time in Arkansas, a friend advised Mrs. Clinton in the investment of $1,000 in the cattle futures market that yielded a quick $100,000 in profit; the investment prompted questions about political favoritism once the Clintons moved to the White House.

Yes, it's beautiful outside here (about 15 mi. west of Eugene, OR). A little chilly due to the wind, though.

I believe lack of character is encoded in his DNA, but growing up the son of someone rich and powerful is what caused it to metastasize.

GAZA, April 23 (Reuters) - The Hamas-led Palestinian government and President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah group pledged on Sunday to work to diffuse tensions between them after their supporters clashed in the worst internal fighting in months.
The armed confrontations in Gaza on Saturday, which wounded 20 people, followed a condemnation on Friday by exiled Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal of Abbas's veto of Hamas's formation of a new Gaza security force, headed by a top pro-Hamas militant.
Speaking in front of officials from both groups, Fatah spokesman Mahar Meqdad said the factions "have agreed to call on our people to stop all forms of tension and to cement national unity."

Finance ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) leading industrial countries have warned of the dangers to the world's economy from higher oil prices.
The G7 was responding to news that the price of oil had closed above $75 a barrel in New York for the first time.
US-Iran tensions and rising demand are being blamed for the increase.
In a statement after their Washington meeting, the G7 said that although the world economy was in good shape, oil prices could throw things off course.
The Japanese Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki said that while there had not been a risk of inflation so far, the current high oil price meant they would have to monitor the situation closely.

Deep thoughts from NRO's Mark Levin:
Now comes Mary McCarthy, who apparently leaked real classified national-security secrets and the media largely dismiss it or defend it. They have no curiosity about McCarthy, the extent of her leaks, to whom she leaked (beyond Priest, did she leak to other reporters, members of Congress, other governments?), how she secured top security posts, and her ties to the Clinton administration. Surely there is every reason the government should pursue this investigation at least as vigorously as the Plame matter has been pursued. Dana Priest, among others, should have her day before a grand jury.
And watch the congressional Democrats follow the media’s lead. Long ago they put party and power above victory in this war. McCarthy’s ties to Clinton threaten to take attention from their unrelenting attack on the Bush administration and their claims of incompetence in the management of the war, which they see as their ticket to majority status in 2006.
Putting that aside, the discovery of McCarthy does make you wonder how many more of her ilk have squirreled themselves into the bureaucracy, from where they seek to undermine the country.
The UN's human rights official in Iraq has said the Iraqi authorities are illegally holding thousands of people.
Gianni Magazzeni said that of the 15,000 people held under Iraqi control, little more than half were under the jurisdiction of the justice ministry.
This is the only body with the right to detain suspects for more than 72 hours.
But he said thousands were also being detained by the interior ministry and hundreds by the defence ministry, in clear breach of Iraqi law.
More than 14,000 people are also being held by US-led coalition forces in Iraq.

Re beautiful outside weather: For about a month here in Atlanta, the weathermen have been declaring it "unseasonably warm." Every day.
This after a winter with not a single hard freeze, so we can expect the roaches and mosquitos to be plentiful.
And all the flowering trees blooming early--most of the dogwoods lost their their petals weeks ago.
Perhaps the seasons have realigned.

RAMALLAH (Reuters) - Under U.S. pressure, regional and international banks are balking at transferring funds from donors to the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, Western diplomats and Palestinian officials said on Saturday.
U.S. officials said the Bush administration could take punitive action against banks that help provide money or services directly to the new government. As Washington has designated Hamas a "terrorist" organization, such assistance could be in breach of U.S. law.
The Bush administration has been spearheading a campaign with Israel to isolate Hamas, which won elections in January and took control of the Palestinian Authority late last month.
U.S. officials would not discuss any specific communications with banks regarding the Islamic militant group, whose charter calls for the Jewish state's destruction.
