I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

first?

GravatarWorst President Ever.

Gravatari'm switching...

i bet a lot of others are too.

GravatarI'll switch, too, when someone pays me some money.

GravatarWorking Assets also contributes a percentage of profits to progressive causes and includes information with the bill on legislative issues. I've used them for 17 years.

GravatarWorst Vice President Ever

GravatarOh, I almost forgot,

Worst Congress Ever

GravatarI think we'll be on this wagon today - if I have my way about it. Fuck NexTel/Sprint anyways. I'm fed up with them anyways.

GravatarMore Lies. More Bush.
I'd like it to resonate better than that silly church highway sign No God? Know God. Such are the travails of travel.

GravatarAnd Worst War Ever.

GravatarAch, und die worst wurst ever.

GravatarGee, I'm torn. My son sells Sprint. My moderate republican lifetime friend sells stocks for a reputable trader. I'd feel like a traitor to them. Is there really only one shining path to follow?

GravatarUse it as leverage.

Tell them you are considering a change unless you get guarantee in writing(notarized).

GravatarI've had them for about 10 years with no complaints.

The first year, I got a coupon for a free pint of Tom & Jerry's ice cream every month.

Then they said I didn't call long distance very much, so to save them and me stamp money, they started billing me every other month instead of monthly.

Plus the nice stuff everybody else said. It's a trip divying up the charity pie every year.

GravatarI'll have to figure out how to get that nice doormat without switching elsewhere and switching back.

GravatarI've been with Working Assets Wireless for a year now.

After signing up for automatic payment, it took them several months to process my request. They ultimately disconnected me, then reconnected me several days later. Then they hit me with a $10.00 fee. Ultimately they promised to refund the fee.

If it were any other company I probably would have cancelled my service.

Gravatarjust read on cspan, the act that prohibits telecommunications co's from giving records of consumers to a gov't entity - with fine of $1000 per day per incident.

GravatarWorking Assets LD is a good firm, I've used them for years. But they are not a telecom carrier, they don't own the lines and routers and switched that actually carry packets and calls; they are a "reseller" that leases bandwidth from carriers. So don't switch to get away from the dragnet, because you won't.

If you're concerned about privacy, encrypt your communications. It's not difficult, all the terrorists do it.

GravatarWe're switching. I forwarded the link to Mr. QL who sits about ten steps away.

GravatarWorking Assets is great.

I quite often order the books they plug in the bills. That's how I learned of Project Censored.

I can't think of any other bill I'm happy to pay.

GravatarBarndog, and vox clamantis in red state:

Working Assets uses Sprint, so you are not being a traitor to your son, or your stock. The only diff is that Working Assets doesn't give their database of names to Sprint. But they have them.

Otherwise, money goes to same places, so feel fine in what you're doing! Unless you don't want Sprint to have your actual name. But it's too late for you, because they do!

I am switching from AT&T.

GravatarAND don't forget the ice cream and/or door mat. You get some funky entertaining sign-on privileges when you go with WALD.

We've been customers for more'n a decade . . . their customer service is friendly and effective.

(I blogged about them too.)

Gravatarsee http://007google.com/Assets.aspx

GravatarI've put in my time in a lot of campaigns and organizations, one of which I ran a phone bank on behalf of a National Health Care plan (back in the early '90s) and we recommended Working Assets back then.

Gravatar007google.com/Assets.aspx

Must be a spoof site.

Oh, and what the heck is a Serach engine?

The real Google would never let that get through the proofreader.

GravatarI switched to Working Assets several months ago. I'm very happy with them. I didn't know until I paid my bill yesterday that they are publishing Glen Greenwald's book HOW WOULD A PATRIOT ACT?

GravatarOne of the first things I did Thursday morning!

Echidne - it should't cost you anything. Their long distance (and international rates) are very competitive and they cover the costs of switching....

Of course, if you don't have a land line then I see no reason to sign up for one.

GravatarJust switched. Thanks for the recommendation. Have been itching to get rid of the dreaded Verizon for some time and the NSA thing just made the decision 100% easy.

GravatarI have been with WA for 12 years.

I have LG and Wireless, and am pleased with both....even if I have to call them up every couple of years to send me another phone.

They are good people.

GravatarBreach away, Atrios!

We've had them for around a decade now and are quite happy with their service and what they stand for.

I had to make a semi-emergency call once from the bus station to a co-worker and couldn't find my calling card in my wallet. They let me make the call for me free with no hassles, even though I couldn't prove I was actually a customer of theirs. Pretty cool.

We've had plenty of chances to get these services cheaper from others, and have always happily turned them down. Particularly now with all of the domestic spying shit coming out in the open for all to see.

.

GravatarHey, if you're gonna breach, at least you've got full disclosure-that's all we really want anyway.

GravatarHas anyone compiled a list of local and long distance companies that haven't turned over their records (other than Qwest and Working Assets)?

Gravatarhttp://www.workingforchange.com/...fm? itemid=20801

Wald's carrier, Sprint...did not cooperate with the NSA.

If you visit Wald's site, they have a number of handy links, including some to express your displeasure with your current carrier.

GravatarI've been using Working Assets for about three and a half years and am happy with their service, but pissed off that they use MBNA for their credit card.

GravatarI was a WA customer a few years ago, but dumped them for some stupid reason like I found cheaper Long Distance (I was single and really watching my finances). Now I am not so poor and sufficiently pissed off enough that I want to switch my wireless (we already have Qwest long distance and happy as hell about that).

Does anyone know how the coverage is generally for their wireless? One thing about Verizon, their coverage is great. This would be a business cel phone, so the coverage has to be pretty good.

GravatarYou left out the Ben and Jerry's coupons. Or do they no longer do that? (I've switched to Vonage.)

GravatarGood to know desmoinesdem. I was curious about their credit card service, but MBNA really sucks hard.

GravatarAH! A VERY important distinction...

I just read on AmericaBlog (and they admit it is unconfirmed): Verizon Wireless is not involved in the Phone Scam. It's Verizon landline.

Okay, I am slow on the uptake, and y'all probably knew that, but I thought I would mention that in case someone else didn't figure it out. Is it even true?

Gravatar>Does anyone know how the coverage is generally for their wireless?

I have no complaints, and they don't charge for roaming.

They are a lot better than Tmobile.

GravatarThanks Nancy.

After going to Verizon Wireless' website, I decided I am switching anyway, even if they don't have anything to do with THIS scam. One would think if they are losing customers due to confusion and they were doing nothing WRONG, they would put out a big fat Press Release or post comething in their Business Center section of their website. There is nothing there. And besides, it's the same parent company and it's probably only a matter of time before these whores roll over.

GravatarI've happily had Working Assets for over a decade. Reasonably priced, socially responsible, and great customer service. What's not to love?

And when my long distance was illegally slammed by a pro-life phone company, I found out from Working Assets. They called to ask if they had done something wrong that they could fix to keep my business, then helped me sic the Attorney General's office on the illegal slammers.

GravatarKen above is correct -- switch in protest if you will ( and send a letter to your carrier's ceo to let them know why) but don't think you've escaped the nsa's prying eyes. And even if you're a quest customer don't think you've not been snooped on -- ever take a call or make one to an att, verizon, or bell south customer?

GravatarAs a bonus WA's fledgling publishing wing has published Kos/Jerome's and Greenwald's books. Nice article in the SF paper yesterday about Chelsea Green:

But Working Assets is finding a niche in what others find suspicious.

The company, which has donated $50 million to liberal causes since it was founded in 1985, in January hired Jennifer Nix to find the hottest, most politically relevant bloggers and try to get them exposure in mainstream media outlets.

Nix, a former National Public Radio producer and Daily Variety reporter, helped edit the 2004 quickie book by UC Berkeley linguistics Professor George Lakoff, "Don't Think of an Elephant!," billed as a guide for progressives, which became a national best-seller, and helped publisher Chelsea Green acquire "Crashing the Gate," a recent book co-written by the nation's top political blogger, Berkeley's Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, a.k.a Daily Kos. [...]

Within a month, Working Assets President Michael Kieschnick expects to give another book contract to another blogger. "There's a market for new voices who are not part of the political elite," he said. [...]

GravatarI'm sure what you say is true, jss. And I am sure I have made calls to people using those carriers, or they have called me. I would hope that if Qwest gets leaned on and complies with the government's requests, it is because they finally got a FISA warrant.

And since Working Assets is part of an ACLU lawsuit against this scam, it's probably likely they won't roll over AS easily as some other companies might without warrants.

Still, the WA MBNA credit card is icky poo. Major, MAJOR donors to Bush in '00 and '04 and that includes corporate and employee individual donations. I realize there is no good credit card company, but Elan might have been a slightly better choice.

GravatarIs it true that VOIP is much harder to track? Qwest has VOIP. Something else to consider?

GravatarI've been getting spammed by them and i wondered what that was about. Now I know where they got my e-mail.

GravatarI just got a letter from Working Assets telling me that they were crediting me $25.00 dollars for being a customer for five years, they really are a great progressive company.

Gravatar>I just got a letter from Working Assets telling me that they were crediting me $25.00 dollars for being a customer for five years,

I have been with them for 12...and the only thing I got from them were a bunch a Ben and Jerry's coupons when I moved.

whine.

Gravatarbujeeboo,
unfortunately fisa won't shield qwest customers in this situation as the other carriers will have the call detail information as well.

GravatarFor those concerned that WA uses MBNA for its credit card, they can't really help that. The card program was originally with Fleet Bank until MBNA bought it out. WA doesn't have much choice but to stick with MBNA for the time being. Read more here: Working Assets and MBNA

GravatarI bet you did not know that Working Assets is owned by Sprint.

Gravatarhi, becky from the political department at working assets.

working assets uses sprint's backbone to route our call traffic. sprint doesn't own working assets. working assets does not give our customers name, address or any billing info to sprint, any other telco, or the NSA.

sprint has told us that it didn't participate in the NSA database of phone call records. we continue to press them for more detailed info.

for ongoing info on our response the big telco/nsa scandal (including a link to this discussion thread) check out:

http://www.workingassets.com/nsadatabase

for specific info on what we know from sprint go here:

Gravatari loathe working assetts. i've been using them for years but the hypocricy kills me. the amount of junk mail solicitations i get from them is appalling. for all the good they claim to do, it really bothers me that they're killing trees with the best of them.

if they were really as good as they wish they were, they could kill the junk mail and offer e-billing, and stop with the solicitations.

plus, every paper bill is pages and pages long, with my name and account info on every page (even though most of it is just a newsletter.) that means i have to use a paper shredder to get rid of the excess pages every month, if i don't want my personal info spread all over recycletown.

GravatarJenna-
You might be happy to know that Working Assets does have web bills (I used them for years)
and they use recycled paper for their paper bills. I even found out that they plant 100 trees every year for every ton of paper that they use in their marketing- do you think Verizon or AT+T do that?

GravatarAnother happy Working Assets customer here. Ten years, and never a complaint. It's ironic to me that they use Sprint as their "backbone", because I switched to WA wireless from Sprint and I've had far fewer dropped calls through WA.

GravatarA vote for Working Assets from Honolulu.
I've had their wireless for 8+ years and never a problem.

GravatarI have been using Working Assets for seven years, and have used its web billing for four years. Ever since I switched to the Internet billing service, I haven't received one piece of regular mail. Each month when I check my calls, I also learn about the issues WA is working on.

And, I had no idea that WA was behind Crashing The Gate until reading these comments.

I love WA even more now.

GravatarI've been using them for about a year now and am completely satisfied. Except that my free Ben and Jerry's thing for new customers ran out

Gravataramen, Atrios. my DSL service is through Qwest, whose land lines weren't tossed to the NSA, and my cell is with Verizon, whose mobile lines weren't tossed to the NSA.

still, I hate that neither division has joined the ACLU's suit and I am quite seriously considering swapping over to Working Assets on principle.

but 3 cheers for Qwest, negating the NSA request on suspicion of illegality. Herb Stern, Qwest's atty on the case, is a good lawyer and a smart man.

but jeezus, those other carriers and divisions, I hope they committed economic seppuku with their decisions!

GravatarWorking Assetts seems to be reselling SprintPCS service (coverage areas and rate plans are identical). If we are unclear on Sprint then how are we better off using Working Assetts?

GravatarRyan, I believe that you'll find Working Assets doesn't own any cell towers and repeaters, and therefore it HAS TO lease/resell the "service" provided by other carriers.

However, you do raise a good point... how do we ensure that Working Assets can secure data etc. when it doesn't own or control the towers, repeaters, etc.

GravatarI have Working Assets' VISA card and have used their long distance (intra- & interstate and international) AND their cell phone service for years now. It's all been excellent. I concur in Atrios' recommendation.

GravatarHi folks,

Will Easton from Working Assets here...my regular job is managing the www.actforchange.com activism site. (I work with Becky.)

We have some updates regarding this situation just posted on our site at:

http://www.workingforchange.com/...fm? itemid=20801

Basically, we don't quite have ironclad assurance from Sprint that they did not turn over info to the NSA...we're still working on that.

We also found that (although I'm not sure how relevant it is to the spying scandal currently under discussion) for certain long distance accounts, Sprint did get name and address information from us (to ensure we weren't switching the wrong customer). This was of course under a strict non-disclosure agreement, but we can't be 100% sure that was honored.

(In the end, my personal view is that if this administration really wants to illegally spy on any of us, they can probably do it. There are lots of weak points and nodes in our nationwide telecom networks; heck, they might even be listening to your [or reporters'] cell phone calls from satellites. But at the end of the day, there's really only one company fighting back against this administration's illegal activities, including wiretapping, and that's Working Assets.)
