Bush does not care about his poll numbers. There is still a lot of the treasury to be pilfered and distributed among his friends and allies(his base). The three reamining years of his administration offers ample time and opportunity to steal us blind so that when he and Cheney retire the his friends and allies(his base) will make certain that the despotic duo are well taken care of for the rest of their lives with much left as a bequest to their progeny. Let the good times roll.
Those last two results are important. That Washington Post poll showing 63% approval of the NSA data mining was badly flawed, because it was done too soon, the very day that the story was breaking. Unfortunately, because it was done so soon it came out almost immediately and (aided by the Post's running it high and flogging it mercilessly), it got huge coverage. Now that people have had a chance to read the paper and find out what data mining program is, it turns out that most people actually do NOT approve of it.
Considering that public policy has been dominated for 10-plus years by radical right-wingers, including religious psychotics, I don't find these survey results at all encouraging. Why the fuck should 41% of Americans approve of a blanket violation of the Fourth Amendment by the Exec Branch? How the fuck do 40% figure that presidential power hasn't expanded too far when all we've been hearing from the right since Brown vs Board is that Big Government Is Too Intrusive? None of these numbers mean anything until Republicans and Democratic sympathizers are permanently removed as the majority voting bloc in Congress.
