I say well done to Atrios and all supporters of real Democrats.
I am not myself necessarily in lockstep agreement with Lamont on the issues - heck, I might even agree with Lieberman more on a few issues - but character counts and backstabbing the party that nominated you for Vice-President is shameless. Sucking up to this, the worst President ever, is shameless. Joellating the Republican right wing is shameless.
Well done, though I guess there is more to do.

After months on the defensive, when Lieberman saw old allies publicly criticize his support for the war and question his place in the Democratic Party, the Lieberman campaign was in a mood to crow.
"It was a big endorsement, given all the anti-war sentiment in this room," said Sean Smith, Lieberman's campaign manager.
[snip]
Lieberman mingled with delegates in a cavernous white party tent outside the Connecticut Expo Center in Hartford prior to the vote, but he left before balloting began to observe the Jewish Sabbath. He expected to win 70 percent of the votes.
"That's 2-1. That's a good victory," Lieberman said.

Tho't this was worth a repeat:
The pro-death thuglican party is making a big item out of its uptick on AIDS aid, but an excellent commentary on the actuality notes that only 28% goes to prevention, and its insistence on its extremist policies prevents much of that from being used efficiently. one thing I hadn't realized is that the cabal won't allow actual sex workers [prostitutes of all varieties] be involved in the programs, meaning one of the best sources of vitally involved personnel is eliminated.

I'm not surprised that Lieberman - the folks who go to the convention are often elected officials from towns and cities (ie - coucilmen and women, school committees, state reps. etc)
Ned will do better in the primary - by then Bush poll numbers will be in the 20s - and hopefully his apologists will go down with him.

I was a delegate. It was very exciting to watch the roll call vote. A lot of small towns went for Lamont, and almost every delegation had at least a few Lamont votes. Lieberman did as well as he did because the big city Democratic machines delivered a lot of Lieberman votes. But where people could vote their real feelings, the vote went Lamont. "I want to be happy here--but isn't the fact that Lieberman got 1000+ delegate votes? Can we beat him in the primary?"
holy joe is in a position where he can really tiwst arms, and there was no reason for a lot of dem delegates that like lamont to give lamont their votes after he got the 15% he needed.
lamont has to target the dem base- the primary voters. he has to make this less about the war and hit other issues. in a state where the chimp has abysmal approval ratings, they need to tie liberschnitzle to the chimp and the gop as much as possible.

It strikes me that the best strategy might be for the blogging community to more or less make a pact to throw all their primary contributions, or at least the great majority, to Lamont. So instead of diluting things down and sending $100 to this primary candidate and $100 more to this other one etc in other races, instead Lamont would receive the full $300 or whatever you've decided you can afford to give to all primary candidates collectively.
Now, far be it for me to set myself up as some Paul Begala wannabe "strategist"...but it strikes me that part of the reason why we get no respect from the Begalas and other DLC establishment Dems is that they think they can indefinitely take our money while simultaneously deriding us as "radical activists" who are "too far to the left". They've made a habit out of taking our money without ever having any intention of delivering on anything of importance to us - kind of like the Republicans have been doing to the rednecks for the past 30 years. Sure, they throw them a few scraps by hyping anti-gay marriage initiatives and the like, but they never really deliver on anything that helps the rubes.
If we could in this one case pick off Lieberman, at the very least it would put the fear into other Democrats in name only that if they want to behave like Republicans, we might focus on them next. The netroots would be a force to be feared, even if it was known that we could only put the hit on them one at a time. Because none of them would know who would be next.
It's a nice thought, anyway.

i disagree a bit here. the DLC doesn't *want* your money, nor do they want *you*. the dlc would rather take corporate money and in return give corporate favors. if they take *your* cash, they know that you'll eventually ask for their support on some 'icky' issue that will require some balls to support.
the dlc is convinced that corporate money is the way to go because they can not only ignore you, but at the same time get even more votes from the mushy middle.

"they were predicting 30% so that when Lamont inevitably got fewer than 30% of the delegates they could claim "victory." Lamont managed to get over 30%."
But does that shame the camp of Joementum? Not. One. Iota
From today's NYT
"Sean Smith, Mr. Lieberman's campaign manager, waved off suggestions that Mr. Lamont's showing was surprising. He said the senator's campaign had expected as many as 40 percent of the delegates to vote for Mr. Lamont, who had spent about $500,000 of his own money on the race through mid-May."
I plead ignorance. How does Lamont losing a vote 66% to 33% or something like that equate to "Bye Joe"? I fail to see how Lamont doing better than expected means Joe is going down, especially when the victory percentage is very high.

The average Democratic primary voter has no vested interest in keeping Lieberman -- he does has a vested interest in keeping the seat Democratic.
The average town, and even more so, big city Democratic committeeman does a vested interest in keeping Lieberman.
I saw this in Maine. Every single town Democratic official caucused for Kerry. But he only got 55% of the delegates, because the sweaty masses went for Dean and Kucinich.
2-1 when you have the home court advantage is no great shakes.
How Lieberman does on the road is the great unknown.

Regarding Doro Bush's vanity book about her crimw family: Hey Doro, we serfs hate your fam because all its members make money raping, maiming and murdering us. Your bro Neil rapes little Thai girls when he's not bank robbing--my ex boyfriend probably has pics of Neil at Bangkok's infamous White House "disco" in Clinton Plaza. Your bro Marvin had his babysitter murdered by her car when he learned she knew his security company helped pull off 9/11 by enabling the demolition bomb rigging of WTC 1, 2 and 7 WEEKS before. Your bro Jeb is a cocaine kingpin, 9/11 jet pilot training coddler, and Confederacy throwback. Your mad bro George is the planet-plundering anti-Christ. Your dead sis Robin was a ritual radiation human sacrifice. Your ma is Ma Barker/Rosemary. Your pa helped assassinate our most beloved pres, JFK, and gave neutron bomb secrets to Red China to keep their pics of him raping little Chinese girls out of your ma's hands. Your grandpa and great grandpa were Nazi traitors. Your uncles are all perps and traitors. All of the young Bushies are substance-abusing, promiscuous wastrels. You dumped your first husband when his petty thievery couldn't match your family's continent scorching and looting. You then married into the Koches because at least they're world-class polluters. Your family's greed has murdered 1-200 million people over the past century and there you are boohooing with Uncle Clarence Tom "because the ungrateful surviving serfs don't like you." Well duh!!! Here's another clue, Doro: Don't depend on words of comfort from Uncle Clarence--I know from personal experience that he judges women's value by their similarity to porn perfection. He nastily threw out my unequal pay case at the EEOC because of my Catholic family abuse-scarred face and flat chest. If you weren't related to the thug Bushes, he'd give you the boot too! If Hitler had an adoring amoral sister, that would be you.
