I see that Murtha is still a representative later in the article. And I had such high spirits over the resignation of Asshole.

the NYTimes and the WAPO are businesses first and as such will always treat progressives this way - it is antithetical to their survival...progressives will NEVER and probably have NEVER gotten fair treatment in the MSM - other than opinion pieces and fluff stories that give no information

Another chapter was written yesterday in the history of great hamster escapes, when a pet called Mike survived three types of crushing machine and a shredder at a waste recycling plant.
The small rodent was left with only a minor foot injury after astonished staff discovered him limping into a final sorting area after going through a process which rips cookers and washing machines into stringy bits of metal.
Mike's white-knuckle ride through the Recyclo works on Deeside, north Wales, adds to the remarkable survival record of Mesocricetus auratus over many years. Hamsters have returned from premature burial, travelled through the post in envelopes (a highly illegal practice) and contentedly shared pet cages with poisonous snakes.

Very good article, but sometimes I think we here know what all the mystics who hear prophesies and revealed truth musta felt like.
"Hey, did anybody else hear/read that? What? nobody else read that? B-b-but it clearly laid out how the mainstream media has and is continuing to fuk over the progressives.

The Media Matters piece finally came up ...
So here's my reaction: why can't we find more reporters and commentators who go right for the jugular when asked a stupid question? Why can't we find ruthless, smart, informed, logical people who have no qualms about drawing blood (rhetorically speaking) when they have their 30-second sound bite?
From the MM editorial: ROSEN: Sexist. There's no rationale for focusing on a candidate's husband's love life at this point, who is not even a candidate. I mean, if we went down the list, for every potential presidential candidate between now and the next election, and talked about their marriage, their relationship, the potential extracurricular activities, it's offensive, and I actually think --
MATTHEWS: Why don't we just limit that discussion to people who have been impeached over the issue?
ROSEN: I actually think that people were offended when they read. They were serious, but offended.
MATTHEWS: Why don't we just limit the discussion to people who have been impeached over the issue?
ROSEN: Well, you know why? Because nobody was scrutinized the way he was.
Rosen's answer to Matthews ridiculous question was weak. First, why SHOULD the discussion be limited to people who have been impeached? And second, Clinton was NOT impeached over an infidelity. He was impeached over lying about it.
Idiots.
Even Robert Kennedy, Jr. got flummoxed when responding to Somebody Holt yesterday regarding his column about voter fraud in Ohio (it's in Rolling Stone and over at truthout; I haven't read it yet). Holt tried to change the conversation to registration fraud, saying that Democrats were actively getting people to register to vote (oh, the horror!) and that some people were registering under silly names like Freddie Kreuger. What the hell does that have to do with whether or not legitimate votes were being counted? But Kennedy took the bait. I started yelling at my TV at that point, and then decided I'd better change the channel before my head exploded.

No question the media is biased. Still and all, it would have been nice if Al Gore had stood up for his good name so the phoney accusations of lying and distortion weren't guaranteed to stand. Same thing for John Kerry and the Swifties. Even Howard Dean never said, "Of course I'm mad and so would you be if you reporters were paying attention." So I think the folks at MediaMatters.org are right but they're being just a little too easy on our candidates.

reid, rodham? progressives? come on, mr. foser, you know better than that. the corporate wing of the democratic party trying to coopt language from the grassroots once again. not because they admire progressive principles, but because they recognize from focus group testing that the label sells.
beyond cynical for the DLC to call one of their offshoots progressive policy institute. that's as ridiculous as republicans running institute of peace.
and as much as i adore murtha, i wouldn't call him a progressive.

Thanks for the pointer; it's a good article but it just reinforces a meme that most of us recognized long ago: the mainstream media are a branch of the GOP 's propaganda arm.
The real question is: how do we change this in reality, and, if that is impossible, how do we make this understood and acknowledged by most of the country?
The GOP worked for years on hammering the meme, "The media are all Democrats". It was BS then, and it is utterly divorced from reality now. We have to find a way to counter-attack: "The media are owned by the GOP, and give Bush and Co. a pass on every disaster. " I don't know how to do this.

I don't get why one of the slandered politiciams does not bring a libel suit against one of the media outlets that publishes an outright falsehood. Just one libel suit -- whether or not it was ultimately successful -- would do wonders to make them more careful. And some of MediaMatters examples are so egregious that I suspect the defendant would lose, even with the public figure / plaintiff's additional burden in these cases of having to prove malicious intent. Some Hollywood celebrities have been successful at this . . . .
