When shelling civilians on the beach, be sure to demand the "Vulcan Phalanx" brand, because nothing says a quiet, relaxed, Friday afternoon family puicnic at the beach like American-supplied depleted uranium shells landing on top of you. Nothing.

"The knife in the back meme that the rusty wingnuts like to spout, what is it's source?
I have a vague idea that it goes back to the roots of the Nazi party in the 1930's. Is that correct?
Doug, "
Yes, correct. Anybody that is not familiar with the tactics used to gain power at that time should look it up and read it well.

In an unbelievably marginally relevant vein: yesterday I posted a link to a sad article about the demise of the amatuer chemist. Remember the old chemistry sets? Well the GWOT and meth epidemic has essentially made them illegal (that and lawsuits from fingers and eyes getting blown off and out.) It mentions many famous American (male, of course) scientists and technolgy gurus who first became intersted in science by making things with their chemistry sets that go boom or really stink. Link:

I'm contesting a decision within an organization. It's a continuation of an earlier policy dispute. Recently, they hired a young man to handle that division, and I've corresponded with him regarding new decisions I view as detrimental to the community's interest.
My question is about the protocol of sending CCs of our correspondence, which has been professional, to the BOD as well as executive management (who are probably watching already) in advance of next week's BOD meeting. Is that considered appropriate or a distinct end-run no, no.
The benefit, since the BOD is an elected office, is to make them aware of the issues in advance of the meeting, particularly because the issues in dispute involve minority and low income segments of the community.
Any advice would be appreciated.

it happens on occasion. The weird thing is that you don't know that you have been deleted (you can still post comments) until the main page is refreshed. Its sort of a limbo-like state. I'm sure Dante has written about it somewhere.

Also mommy wouldn't let them borrow the Buick to drive down to Las Vegas. She didn't want her innocent boys to see naked show girls. Which reminds me of when Vogue Magazine had the first model with an exposed navel on their cover, an irate woman wrote to the editor that she couldn't have the magazine on display in her house because her 18-year-old son might see it.

Sounds like the Army's been getting training from the LAPD:
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was alive when U.S. troops reached him after an airstrike on his safe house, but died a short time later, a military spokesman said today. "According to the person on the ground, Zarqawi attempted to ... turn away off the stretcher," said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Bill Caldwell. "Everybody re-secured him back on to the stretcher but he died almost immediately."
I'm contesting a decision within an organization, a continuation of an earlier policy dispute.
I've corresponded with staff regarding new decision and am taking the issue before the BOD next week.
My question is about the protocol. Is sending copies of our correspondence, which has been professional, to the BOD considered appropriate or a distinct end-run no, no?
The benefit is it avoids having to bring them up to speed at the meeting. The risk is that it may appear to be an attempt to prejudice them.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Al, put together a few PowerPoint slides to "bring them up to speed".
So, Ned Lamont is an "insurgent." I hate the media.
"Big applause at Thursday night’s opening bash came when Markos told the crowd that a new Quinnipiac Poll showed Sen. Joe Lieberman’s lead over insurgent Ned Lamont slipping to only 55 percent to 40 percent, among Democrats likely to vote. Lieberman is the most hated man here at Yearly Kos, yes, beyond even President Bush."

How many progressive Democratic politicians are out there, where they should be, talking politics and tossing down a few beers with our most influential jouranlists/bloggers. If I was running for any political office, you can bet I'd be out there. Of course I'd make sure to block out some time for a little "Hold 'em" at the Sahara.
I sure hope the event occurs again next year....and Vegas is a great location...if so...I'll be there.
