The ceremony and self-celebration notwithstanding, the actual extent of the blogging community's power is still unclear. For one thing, it was hard to find a single Republican in the crowd here, though organizers insisted that a few had registered.

res ipsa,
A million years ago, during the Vietnam antiwar marches, it was not uncommon for protesters to show up in suits, ties, clerical garb, skirts, whatever. Dressed as "proper ladies and gentlemen."
Journos would breeze right past them and find the loudest, angriest knots of hippies -- ones most guaranteed by appearance, signage and attire to freak the shit out of Mr. & Mrs. Middleclass -- and shoot 'em over and over again.
Some things never change.

From the Globe, this am, don't know if anyone's seen it. About NH phone jamming. Quote's from Allen Raymond, fresh from the slammer. Interesting stuff.
``Republicans have treated campaigns and politics as a business, and now are treating public policy as a business, looking for the types of returns that you get in business, passing legislation that has huge ramifications for business," he said. ``It is very much being monetized, and the federal government is being monetized under Republican majorities."
And whingeing about the ref? *geesh* British full time job I think.

Millions of England fans are breathing a sigh of relief after a victorious start to their team's World Cup effort.
Tens of thousands of fans flooded into Frankfurt to watch England take on Paraguay. Millions of others cheered on the players in British homes and pubs.
Many fans travelled to Germany without match tickets and watched on giant television screens.
The crowds had to wait only three minutes for England to go 1-0 up - but that turned out to be the only goal.
Tony Blair watched the game from Chequers - while flying a St George's flag over Downing Street.
And The Queen has sent a message of support via Prince William, who is at the match itself.

Here's a "no shit" statement from the same article:
``A lot of people look at politics and see it as the guy who wins is the guy who unifies the most people," he said. ``I would disagree. I would say the candidate who wins is the candidate who polarizes the right bloc of voters. You always want to polarize somebody."
Article also mentions Blitzer's buddy, Ed Rogers, was an investor in this guy's company. I don't think that's ever come up on the Situation Room. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

British police say they have freed without charge two brothers who were arrested in an anti-terrorist raid in east London last week, in which one of them was shot.
Mohammed Abdul Kahar, 23, who is recovering from a gun-shot wound, and Abul Koyair, 20, were released on Friday after being held for questioning at a high security prison since police swooped on their house at dawn a week ago.
The house in the ethnically mixed area of Forest Gate in east London that police suspected of being used for making a chemical bomb was raided by more than 250 officers.
Police said both suspects were freed on Friday evening after they had found no bomb in a search of their house, but added in a statement that detectives were looking at the intelligence they had received and would "continue to exhaust all lines of inquiry".
