GravatarSo where does Cynthia McKinney go to get her reputation back?

A grand jury declined Friday to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney in connection with a confrontation in which she admitted hitting a police officer who tried to stop her from entering a House office building. The grand jury had been considering the case since shortly after the March 29 incident, which has led to much discussion on Capitol Hill about race and the conduct of lawmakers and the officers who protect them.

The encounter began when McKinney, D-Ga., tried to enter a House office building without walking through a metal detector or wearing the lapel pin that identifies members of Congress. McKenna did not recognize her as a member of Congress and asked her three times to stop. When she ignored him, he tried to stop her. McKinney then hit him.

McKinney described the encounter as "racial profiling," insisting she had been assaulted and had done nothing wrong. McKinney is black. McKenna is white.

Wainstein, meanwhile, sought an indictment from a federal grand jury, with assault on a police officer mentioned in the filings as a possible charge. That is a felony that would require an indictment...

The grand jury subpoenaed several House aides thought to have witnessed the encounter. McKenna, too, testified. The grand jury voted not to indict her. Prosecutors also could have charged McKinney with simple assault without having to seek an indictment.

But they did not because it was a bullshit case from the gitgo.

Moronic brownshirt fucks can line up to kiss Ms. McKinney's ass starting [whoosh!] RIGHTNOW [Gong!]!!!

'Formica said, for example, that the forces used five interrogation techniques that were allowed at one point but had been rescinded by then: sleep or food deprivation, yelling and loud music, forcing detainees to remain in stressful physical positions, and changing environmental conditions, which could include making their locations too hot or too cold.

Formica also found that the nakedness "was unnecessary and inconsistent with the principles of dignity and respect" in the Geneva Conventions. And he said that while one of the prisoners fed just bread and water appeared to be in good condition, 17 days of that diet "is too long."'

I mean, yesterday was Paul McCartney's

GravatarRuth, I did meet Steve Tuck out in Vancouver tho. He's the former US Army Veteran, who was a medical marijuana refugee in Canada - before the Bush gov't just extradited back to Oakland or SF, where he's now awaiting trial for growing medical pot.

I'm so sick of these fuckers and how they treat sick people. I don't know if you guys have VH1... but they're running a series called "The Drug Years".

It shows how the escalation of the 'war on pot smokers' has turned the rehab industry into a multi-billion dollar industry. And, that's not even mentioning the legal end of it.

It's fucking mind numbing.

GravatarI should go back to sleep.

Really.

.

GravatarDid he do that song about living in Allentown and not being movie stars?

Please tell me you're joking.

.

GravatarSorry spork. I was really out of the music scene for many years.

GravatarI hadn't heard about persecution of medical marijuana users, do know that it seems more and more illogical to criminalize smoking pot. We have enuff real threats to ward off, somebody's own private life is so out of bounds.

On that note, S.Tx farmers have been putting up ladders over their fencing so that people coming over the border won't cut it - and those suspicious fellas are going around the ladders, they're afraid it's a trap. Heh, indeed. [this is in DMNews].

GravatarBilly Joel = Allentown.

A decent song (IMHO) and was released about the same time as Born in the USA.

GravatarBD - When you consider all the money we have spent on the fucking war on drugs, we could have had national health care all these years. It is absolutely ridiculous. And we've accomplished nothing except making people's lives miserable.

The procedure was phenomenal in it's efficacy. July 12 - I have the other side done.

GravatarA decent song (IMHO) and was released about the same time as Born in the USA.

.
spork

So that's why I have them mixed up.

GravatarMy god Ruth.... I could make you cry with some of the stories I know of, and have heard. The persecution of medical cannabis users is ungodly.

We may have 11 or 13 states that allow personal medical use, but not so the feds recognize anyways.

GravatarBack in the nineties I saw this panel that included 3-5 guys who make recommendations as to which drugs should be in what category. They were all in the seventies and it was obvious to me that the drug laws would never change until we got some new blood on the panel. Their only agrument against marajuana was that it is a gateway drug. That was the best they could come up with.

Allentown kind of struck a nerve with me cause I was staying home with kids and we were constantly scrambling to pay the bills. It was around that time I realized I was never going to be master of the universe.

GravatarFYI - for those interested:

http://www.drugpolicy.org/homepage.cfm

Gravatarql, you're not master of the universe? who is this name stealing troll?

BD, a lot of the profs my son has in law school support the decriminalization, so I suspect they're running into real stupidity, there's not a lot of radicalism in the law school. of course here in flyover land, meth is out of control - anyone who uses pot is 15 minutes ago I would imagine.

GravatarMeth is out of control here too. They're knocking off meth houses left and right these days. Seems everywhere you go where theres a substantial crowd of people, you'll inevitably see a couple people in there with rotting teeth - a clear sign of smoking meth.

Goes with the territory.

GravatarMorning, peeps.
I don't know what I'm doing up so early, but I just saw the horrible news about NTodd's Ma.

GravatarGilliard has a good post up wherein ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI essentially says the Iraqi government is a joke. They operate in the Green Zone, an American fortress, because they can't operate anywhere else. Gilliard mentions that at some point one of the militias might blockade the Green Zone. That coupled with the article a few days ago that we are probably outgunned in Iraq sends shivers up and down my spine. As bad as it is now, the militias are pretty much fighting between themselves. If they ever turn on us, it will be a blood bath.

Gravatarql in ny-
I don't think it's militias blockading the green zone that's as likely as a Shia uprising in the south which would cut off U.S. supply lines. Just about everything they eat or drink is coming through the port of Basra or through the south from Kuwait.

GravatarMorning All,

Hope today will be a better day than yesterday.

GravatarOf course w is in a real pickle concerning Iraq. If he pulls out now, with nothing to show for it, he'll have to admit that $300 billion and 2500 lives were for nothing but his own sick gratification of proving his dick is bigger than his Daddy's. If we stay it will just be more of the same. Almost worth it to see it idiot in chief squirm.

I bet the reason he hasn't replaced Rummy is that nobody else will take the job. I've read that there are many government commissions that have essentially shut down because serious people don't want to be associated with this joke of a regime.

Good thing there are no English profs around to read my run on sentences.

GravatarI wasn't here yesterday evening, but I did see the Tweety Show. My tv may not last too much longer. Anyway, I think this debate and resolution is nothing but a Hollywood. My take is that the repugs showed they are against America. They are in a Bush bubble and do not care that 68% of this country wants a change in Iraq. They put another nail in their coffin with that dog and pony show.

GravatarRuth-- sunny yesterday, today, and now they say tomorrow as well. Good thing-- I've got a ton of pumpkins to put in.

Today Mrs. Moe and I have been married a year. Although we were together for several years previously, and we moved up here seeking immigration (for me), she wouldn't marry me until gays could get married, saying she wouldn't have anything to do with discriminating institutions. The good folks in courts and parliaments across Canada made that happen, so here we are.

GravatarCongrats, Moe! May you have many more.

Contradictions Cloud Inquiry Into 24 Iraqi Deaths
Members of this squad gave differing accounts of their actions. One said that they quickly came under fire. "All we knew was, there's a big firefight," one marine in this group told his lawyer, Paul L. Hackett, a major in the Marine Reserves and an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Congress from Ohio in a special election last fall. "You just heard it everywhere, medium, heavy machine gun fire."

The marine represented by Mr. Hackett added: "This whole section of the city is a kill zone. We're getting shot every time we turn around."
...
The other marine may have been hearing the First Squad's action about 700 yards up the road at the bombing site and thought they were under fire, he suggested.

And it's important to stress that Captain Kimber's Marines were not in Haditha. He was not in Haditha. It wasn't his area of responsibility when he was the company commander of India Company. And keep in mind that they Marines that are being investigated in relationship to the November 19 events are Kilo Company Marines. i just woke up...or got stoned and missed it...
.

GravatarI am really concerned about this trend towards 'outsourcing' intelligence and military functions to private entities.

Besides the whole idea of 'mercenaries' being repugnant, we have zero control over these companies, either by way of the military code or civilian criminal law.

Gravatar"oooh, now I am and this caller is pointing out about Blackwater being responsible for the Fallujah disasters.
Ruth "

You know, this just shows the rest of the world that we can't even use our own Military power to take care of a job. These people in control of things are freaking idiots! Who exactly is co-ordinating these entities? Evidently, they are not at the desk.

GravatarNTodd lost his mother suddenly this week, last week his SIL killed herself.

GravatarWGG, NTodd's mother died quite suddenly.

Gravatar"Besides the whole idea of 'mercenaries' being repugnant, we have zero control over these companies, either by way of the military code or civilian criminal law.
Diane"

Evidently we have no communications or clear strategy with these companies. Years ago I thought those Combat Brick camps were a replacement for Saturday poker parties. Sheesh!

GravatarDiane,

I didn't know your mother was ill. I hope she and you are doing well.

My best thoughts and good vibes to you both.

And damn for NTodd. What a shitty year it's been for him. My heart breaks for him...

GravatarRep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX): "Thank God for his ministering to grieving families, but thank God he was not here and prevailed after the bloodbaths at Normandy and in the Pacific or we would be here speaking Japanese or German. Thank you."

Another response would have been:

Is Rep. Gohmert suggesting that we would be speaking "Iraqi" if we left Iraq at this juncture?

Does Rep. Gohmert remember that unlike the Japanese and their allies, Iraq did not attack America and the WTC.

Does he not remember that this is a PREEMPTIVE military action by the US because we felt threatened by nonexistent weapons of mass destruction?

GravatarWGG, NTodd's mother died quite suddenly.
Diane - 8:19 am

yeah, that's tough...

one is, i learned to my own chagrin, never too old to be an orphan...
.

Gravatar"Does he not remember that this is a PREEMPTIVE military action by the US because we felt threatened by nonexistent weapons of mass destruction?

Gimlet"

WORD!

GravatarMaybe we should "Privatize" our representatives. That would take care of the Lobbying issues.

GravatarGohmert is stupid. Even in those areas conquered by the Germans or Japanese, they never tried to change the language. Paris still spoke french. China still spoke Chinese.

GravatarGohmert was just reading from the prepared text delivered, via the Pentagon, from the White House.

Buncha freakin' parrots!

GravatarNTodd's mother died quite suddenly.
Diane - 8:19 am

Did she have some type of kidney problem?

I seem to recall NTodd was writing about donating an organ for transplant. Or am I remembering this wrong?

GravatarThanks, Shaw.

My 88 year old mother took a fall in her apartment and fractured her pelvis. She's recovering.

And I (along with just about everybody who posts here) agree with you on NTodd. That guy has had one hellacious year.

GravatarMoe, the man needs to be Shamed. Never thought of serving one minute. You would think before he stood in front of the country to read a script, he would make sure what he was saying was correct.

GravatarGohmert wound up stuttering out how much he respected Murtah for his service while admitting he'd never served, himself.

The idea of 'speaking in tongues' sure doesn't appeal to these cretins does it?

GravatarOMG! Estimated 40 core private companies!

GravatarNTodd was looking into donating his kidney, yes.

That is one man who's going to have to be stronger than I can imnagine.

GravatarThe "speaking Japanese" thing really plays into the English only nonsense, I guess.

Gravatar"The idea of 'speaking in tongues' sure doesn't appeal to these cretins does it?
Ruth |"

ROTFLMAO! Like I've said before, they don't even believe in the Bible they shake in others faces! They simply pick out verses that suit their scare tactics.

GravatarHey, Moe!... Re; band... I don't have one - yet.

Any luck and, maybe soon there may be something happening. I'm going to make a push this summer to get something rolling. I'm sick of playing for myself, cats and the wife most of the time.

GravatarWell, those pumpkins won't plant themselves. See ya'all later.

GravatarThis fella on CSpan is sure sold on his party line. Oh, the military is getting lobster every Friday night? not my friend who was there for almost two years, who lived in an unairconditioned tent a lot of the time.

GravatarHow dumb are the "heartland" republicans. Are they really this dumb or are they just liars like the admin they support?
Agency produces letter from ex-lawmaker
WASHINGTON - The Homeland Security Department produced a letter Friday from disgraced former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham recommending a limousine company for federal contracts — a day after claiming it didn't have such a letter.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ 20060...ressman_bribery

The admin lies. From top to bottom every one of them lies. Does the "heartland" really think their preznut's and his admin are protecting mureka?

""If we can't trust them to find a letter, how can we trust them to find a terrorist?" asked Rep. Bennie Thompson (news, bio, voting record), D-Miss., the Homeland Security Committee's top Democrat."

And how far in the tank is AP :
"A department spokesman said the letter was discovered in a folder by an administrative assistant who had read news reports Friday morning about its disappearance.

"She says, 'Oh, I get those kinds of letters all the time, I just throw them in a folder," said DHS spokesman Larry Orluskie. "So she starts looking through the folders and finds this letter.""
So a strong and powerful repub sends a letter. A repub that throws his weight around and gets his way. The assistant just tosses the letter from the strong and powerful repub in a folder. Not bloody likely. How dumb are the "heartland" republicans: CBS News Poll. June 10-11, 2006
"Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president?"
Republicans 74% Approve 21% Disapprove, Democrats 6% Approve 87% Disapprove

Get thee behind me Satan, would be my verse of choice to most of them. Except I wouldn't trust them there.

GravatarLabour majority wants PM out by autumn next year

· Disenchantment over core values revealed by poll
· Most members believe donors wield influence

Two-thirds of Labour's remaining members want Tony Blair to stand down by the autumn conference next year, and believe he does not trust the party sufficiently to involve members in policy making.

Half of Labour's membership also feel policy is exclusively made in Downing Street by the prime minister and his advisers. But by a majority of more than two to one, the poll gives no mandate for MPs to try to force Mr Blair out before he wishes in this parliament.

The findings, the first substantial poll of party members for a decade, are remarkable for disclosing the depths of disenchantment even among many of the party's remaining 200,000 - presumably most loyal - members. Only half the party believe the government has been mostly faithful to its fundamental values.

Gravatar"She says, 'Oh, I get those kinds of letters all the time, I just throw them in a folder," said DHS spokesman Larry Orluskie. "So she starts looking through the folders and finds this letter.""

GravatarThe Homeland Security Department produced a letter Friday from disgraced former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham recommending a limousine company for federal contracts — a day after claiming it didn't have such a letter.

Next up, Congress passes an Amendment to the Constitution saying the President and his administration are infallible in their policies and the execution of them.

Hey!

If the Pope can govern that way, so can Bush (with certain Fascist modifications)!

GravatarRuth, we can't trust them anywhere. LOL.

GravatarGimlet, didn't Spector already do that?

Not poetical, no. Definitely evocative, though.

As far as the Pope was concerned, the Fascism was original equipment. Or maybe it's the other way 'round...

Kevin has a link to a story about a dude that came back from the ME, and was detained all day by DHS...

...for an old NY bench warrant and a T-shirt violation.
He's just finished a cook's tour of damn near every ME hotspot there is, and probably shared an elevatopr with bin Laden somewhere along the way, and they asked him not one question. He was innocent of any wrongdoing, but for Xsake, they should have at least been just a tad curious, no? Buffoons, top to bottom.
Oh, they let him go, finally, because they couldn't get NYPD on the phone...

GravatarDamn, those ads up at the top just keep on getting bigger, don't they? Not gonna be room for us pretty soon, at this rate.

GravatarI can't believe Cynthia McKinney wasn't indicted. She must have had the same grand jury as Karl Rove.
Her actions were criminal and could
have precipitated a trip to the emergency room for that Capitol Hill
police officer. Stiches even.

And course Karl Rove's outing of a CIA operative could have had some
bad repercussions too.
