At least 24 people have been killed and more than 60 wounded in a string of attacks across Iraq, most of them in Baghdad.
Eleven people, including an unspecified number of Iraqi army soldiers, were killed and 15 others wounded when a bomber blew himself up on Saturday at a joint Iraqi army and police checkpoint in Baghdad's Karrada neighbourhood, an interior ministry official said.
A number of civilian cars waiting at the checkpoint were also damaged in the bombing.
Five people were killed and 25 others were wounded in a roadside bombing in central Baghdad's Haraj market.

Half of the country's water systems are making a potentially hazardous switch, while a bill aims to make national safe drinking water standards voluntary, RAW STORY has learned.
This is pretty ominous, if it means what I think it does, but the article is written in very clouded terms. Anyone care to tell me what the hell it means?

It means we're really on our way to becoming a third-world country. Besides the haves and have-nots, and absence of a middle class, we'll have people dying from bad drinking water.

You may be exactly right. After all....The introduction of the act announces that it's intention is to, "to prevent the enforcement of certain national primary drinking water regulations unless sufficient funding is available or variance technology has been identified."
I really thought to governments primary purpose was to protect and to serve. I guess I'm just stupid that way.

Is this what Bush means by Iraqi's "seizing the moment"?

that's what they tell ya in elementary school...it's part of the American Myth taht 'the People' matter...
mostly, that illusion dissipates of its own deadly inertia by about 10th grade, though, imho...
i know of no sentient adults who still believe that version of 'reality.' and i'm not sure i'd want to know them, unless i were a con-man running a game...

Um, I don't see Chicago on the list either. We're the third-largest city, for crying out loud.
