.

GravatarThe medication in question is called Visudyne, and as far as I can determine, is poroduced by an arm of Genentech. Google works wonders.

Gravatarso close, so very frist close

GravatarVisudyne? I was just reading about Avastin....

GravatarAvastin may in fact be the cheaper, readily available medication. Lucentis Genentech has applied for approval of Visudyne. Soul engaged, caffeine inbibed, mind in neutral.

GravatarThis Chloramine thing has me freaked out. According to a water provider in California, you must not allow this stuff to enter your bloodstream. I guess intraveinous drug users are about to be killed off by our drinking water, when they combine water in their dope.

Sorry to contiminate this tread with a topic from the ;ast thread, but this shit our governments are doing to us, is going to get peoople killed, and there's nothing anyone can do.

Cloramine: it's what's to kill you.

FUCK!

GravatarWell plantsman, that's pretty strange, for both of us to be talking about the same thing without talking to each other about the same thing.... And I'm only on my first mouthful of coffee.

An old professor friend was afflicted with macular degeneration but I cannot remember if it was wet or dry. Certainly the horror of losing your sight when sight is how you make a living and how you live was pretty severe.

GravatarPolice may let Muslims see terrorism intelligence

· Move to repair relations after Forest Gate raid
· Review of operation ready by end of month

The police are considering a proposal to let selected British Muslims examine the intelligence used to mount anti-terrorism raids before they take place, the Guardian has learned.

The proposal will be considered as part of a review of the raid in Forest Gate, east London, a fortnight ago when 250 officers stormed a family house searching for a chemical weapon which was not found. One man was shot and police have apologised for the "hurt" caused by the raid which has further damaged strained relations with the local community. The review began this week and is expected to be completed before the end of the month.

While such a review after a controversial incident is standard, this one is unique because British Muslims are involved from the start.

GravatarOT: Time running out to curb effects of deep sea pollution, warns UN

· Pace of change outstrips conservation efforts
· Water temperature rises as alkalinity falls

Damage to the once pristine habitats of the deep oceans by pollution, litter and overfishing is running out of control, the United Nations warned yesterday. In a report that indicates that time is running out to save them, the UN said humankind's exploitation of the the deep seas and oceans was "rapidly passing the point of no return".

Last year some 85 million tonnes of wild fish were pulled from the global oceans, 100 million sharks and related species were butchered for their fins, some 250,000 turtles became tangled in fishing gear, and 300,000 seabirds, including 100,000 albatrosses, were killed by illegal longline fishing.

GravatarWoody, did a comment about a CEO just vanish here?

apparently...

shall i repeat my purely speculative query?

Gravatarsmalfish -

Not to worry about Chloramine. The chemical has been used for a long time to disinfect driking water.

GravatarThe destruction of ocean habitat and overfishing are scary subjects to contemplate -- and the more I think about "farm-raised, color-added" salmon, the yuckier it seems.

I tend toward the same thing, plantsman - still, mine was not sudden, and the suddenness was what was terrible. That there's any medication for m.d. is heartening tho.

GravatarRuling 'gets harder' for Labour

Treasury minister Ed Balls has told a conference that governing is getting "more difficult" for Labour.

His comments came as more than 1,000 Labour members and activists meet in London to discuss renewing the party.

Ministers, trade unionists and campaign leaders are addressing the conference, organised by left-wing group Compass.

Mr Balls - a long-time ally of the Chancellor, Gordon Brown - said: "We have raised expectations, and not always met them."

Mr Balls also accused Conservative leader David Cameron of hypocrisy.

GravatarUS report details abuse in Iraq

Saturday 17 June 2006, 6:52 Makka Time, 3:52 GMT

Iraqi detainees were held in small cells with their eyes taped shut for up to seven days at a time while loud music was played to stop them from sleeping, a US military investigation has found.

The investigation conducted by Brigadier General Richard Formica examined the treatment of Iraqi prisoners following the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in 2004.

The report describes how some detainees were fed nothing but bread and water for up to 17 days by US special operations troops but dismissed allegations that prisoners were physically abused or humiliated at the so-called tactical holding facilities.

The heavily censored report was given to the American Civil Liberties Union under court order as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Growing up, I had a good friend that lived in the country and had well water with a high iron content. Funky, funky tasting stuff.

My buddy always complained that city water wasn't good because it didn't have enough taste.

GravatarHundreds of black bears face slaughter after Army abandons trial of synthetic fur for Guards' ceremonial headgear

As a show of British military finery, the Trooping of the Colour has had no equal for 258 years. Today, the Guards regiments will parade for the monarch and tourists in their spotless regalia, topped with their lustrous bearskins.

But as the Queen takes the salute to mark her 80th birthday celebrations this morning, some 4,000 miles away a group of hunters will be preparing to go into the dense woodlands of Canada and kill an Ursus americanus or Canadian black bear.

If the animal is fortunate, it will die quickly from a shot to the head before having its head and paws severed as trophies and the skin sold to a fur auctioneer. In the past five years alone, 494 of those pelts have been sold at a cost of £321,000 to a long-standing customer of the Canadian fur industry - the British Ministry of Defence.

GWPDA,

Mom was just about completely blind from macular degeneration when she passed away. Part of the reason I grieved, but was not devestated by losing my best friend. I should have known something was up when she stopped reading the Nation. I was checked out and have no symptoms which means I'm probably okay since it starts showing up in your early fifties. Usually passed from mother to daughter.

GravatarHomophobic killers jailed as gay-hate crimes soar

Two men who punched and kicked a gay barman to death as if they were " trying to kill an animal" were jailed for a minimum of 28 years yesterday.

The sentencing came as it emerged that the number gay-hate crime cases being dealt with by the courts almost doubled in the past year, to 600 investigations. But campaigners warn that the prosecution rate represents a fraction of the true scale of the problem.

Jody Dobrowski, a 24-year-old barman, sustained 33 separate injuries during the attack on Clapham Common in October last year. His killers, Thomas Pickford, 25, and Scott Walker, 33, showed no emotion as they were jailed for life after admitting to the murder at the Old Bailey. The court heard how Mr Dobrowski's body was beaten so severely that his family did not recognise him, and had to identify him by his fingerprints.

GravatarMorning, my fellow free thinkers!

My next door neighbor and I were just talking about the "Conservative Rock Songs" list.

He agreed that it was so ridiculous.

"First of all, these are the people who want to tell the rest of us to live. They want to silence all of us who don't agree with them.

Rock was supposed to be about rebellion. What do these asshole have to rebel against? The fact that when they were in college, 'pater' drove the BMW to the country club on the day that they wanted to drive it to the pep rally?"

I said that "Every artist on that list should sue them for slander."

He said "The bottom line is they're trying to be cool. Too hard. And, no matter how hard they try to make it look otherwise, there is nothing cool or hip about fascism!"

GravatarSorry:

"First of all, these are the people who want to tell the rest of us HOW to live."

GravatarOT: World Cup is a game of two halves for the economy

The England team's fortunes may be looking brighter following late goals against Trinidad & Tobago, but the economy is facing a more mixed tournament when it comes to World Cup-related profits and losses.

Supermarkets, pubs, bookmakers and advertisers are all basking in the sunshine as the sales boom from the tournament.

However travel agents, mortgage brokers, cinemas and the high-street giant Woolworths are facing a gloomy June.

Holiday companies such as First Choice and My Travel have both reported a downturn in people booking trips abroad during the duration of the tournament. My Travel had already cut the number of charter holidays it was offering this summer by 1.3 per cent, but bookings are still 2.6 per cent behind last year.

GravatarJoe Scarborough, 6/13 transcript:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13323623/

...but first, in tonight‘s SCARBOROUGH COUNTRY showdown, should Ann Coulter apologize? Tonight, a group called the New Democratic Majority is joining the chorus of Coulter critics, and they‘re demanding she apologize for her recent comments about 9/11 widows cashing in on their husband‘s deaths.
(Paragraph which Haloscan doesnt' recognize)
They join the growing list of Dems launching public assaults against Coulter, from Senator Hillary Clinton to Congressman Ron Emanuel, to 9/11 Commission member Tim Roemer, and the two New Jersey Democrats who called for Coulter‘s book to be removed from the state‘s bookshelves.
(Damn, damn, damn, damn Haloscan)
New York Congressman Anthony Weiner also had some harsh words about Coulter‘s comments saying, quote, “Even for someone like her, who crawls along the sordid bottom of the media world, this is a new low
(Once haloscum gets it's teeth into too many blank lines, it never lets go)
Tonight,I asked the congressman where his fellow Democrats were when Michael Moore seemed to attacking American troops.
Cont'd next post--Haloscan crap.

GravatarScarborough cont'd:

What about the parallel of American troops who were being killed in Iraq and whose parents have to see Michael Moore being praised by, frankly, a lot of members of the Democratic Party for saying that we need to spill more American blood over in Iraq so maybe the Iraqi people and God will forgive us one day. (snip)

WEINER: No, here would be the parallel. If he came on your show and said, “I am glad that those troops died” or that somehow “I think they brought it on themselves,” there is a difference here. Joe, just—you know, I don‘t understand. Can‘t we just agree to say that Ann Coulter is a despicable bottom- feeder and she went passed the line this time? That‘s the fact. And then go on to debate about what we should do in Iraq.

Is Joe Scarborough batshit crazy--or is just most cable shouters? Is this actually acceptabel discourse in this nation? Obviously, yes, but, hey, get a grip, Merkins.
