Gravatarmy, my, what a surprise -- former bushco officials -- free marketeers, no doubt -- parlaying their previous positions into lucrative federal tit-sucking jobs:

June 18, 2006
Homeland Security Inc.
Private Jobs and Big Pay Draw U.S. Ex-Terror Officials
By ERIC LIPTON
WASHINGTON, June 17 — Dozens of members of the Bush administration's domestic security team, assembled after the 2001 terrorist attacks, are now collecting bigger paychecks in different roles: working on behalf of companies that sell domestic security products, many directly to the federal agencies the officials once helped run.

At least 90 officials at the Department of Homeland Security or the White House Office of Homeland Security — including the department's former secretary, Tom Ridge; the former deputy secretary, Adm. James M. Loy; and the former under secretary, Asa Hutchinson — are executives, consultants or lobbyists for companies that collectively do billions of dollars' worth of domestic security business.

More than two-thirds of the department's most senior executives in its first years have moved through the revolving door. That pattern raises questions for some former officials.

How are you doing, Shaw?

My boss has 3 rad treatments left, she's so very, very happy about that.

Gravatarmy comcast unit was 96 dollars, and twelve bucks a month.

Speaking of MM, the site has a great question: Why is there no pic of the Shrubb in his flak jacket and helmet. Politics aside, don't any of those pussies in the press pool have a sense of humor?

One deserved to die

Enough already on the world views of Michael Berg. Basking (and I mean basking) in the reflection of his son's brutal murder, Berg contributes no insights whatever to resolving international problems. Love thy neighbor as he saws off your head doesn't qualify as a viable program. Berg's son, Nick, didn't deserve to die, but in this very imperfect world his slaughterer did.

Thanks for asking Buckeye, DoRC.

Haven't started yet because all of my medical records weren't sent to Mass. General until the middle of this week. Docs here want to know everything about me before they begin radiation.

I'll know by the middle of this coming week.

You're a star for asking.

During the 2000 campaign, I got the distinct vibe that Shrub's conspicuous lack of world travel was not a source of embarrassment to him, but rather some sort of badge of honor.
Max Planck | 06.17.06 - 2:04 p

Funny thing, he'd been overseas before election. Visited China while dad was ambassador, and IIRC he and the LauraBot visited Italy.

I think what pisses me off about that, and others who go overseas and don't actually 'learn' or experience anything, is that there are so many of us who would love to have that travel/living opportunity, and these folks just waste it.
Buckeye, Dealer of Rare Coins | 06.17.06 - 2:11 pm

I'd also like to add that now that Shrub has to go overseas as part of his job, he still doesn't enjoy it or learn anything. I got the impression that Clinton liked those sorts of trips, that no matter how hard it was, there was always something to be gleaned from it.

GravatarFuny too how that TiVo guy is always the first to post. How does he do it?

GravatarI want the US to beat Italy. If only for selfish reasons. I will be playing soccer this fall, and I want to see expanded leagues. I also want to the the MLS expand, so I can watch some professional soccer live without having to drive to Dallas.

Theft of Ground Zero supplies unpunished

By Margaret Ebrahim and Pat Milton
The Associated Press
NEW YORK — A disaster-relief company that took supplies intended for Sept. 11 rescuers at the World Trade Center escaped punishment after the government discovered its own employees had taken artifacts from Ground Zero, once-secret federal documents show.

Kieger Enterprises (KEI) of Lino Lakes, Minn., managed a Long Island warehouse for the government that was filled with supplies donated by Americans for the rescue workers.

The FBI developed evidence from whistle-blowers that the company had sent trucks to the warehouse and loaded hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of donated bottled water, clothes, tools and generators to be moved to Minnesota in a plot to sell some for profit, the records show.

And of course, the whistleblowers were attacked and punished. Nice family values there, DOJ. Really, I mean that.

The lesson of the day: join the FBI and break any law you want. It's all with with the Bush regime.

GravatarCity Councilman Jim Kenney has denounced Geno's for the "Speak English" signs on its steakhouse. The Human Relations Commission has predictably weighed in with charges against Joe Vento. Both are wrong and will be defeated in court.

Maybe Kenney will explain what Vento is to do if someone demands he hire someone to speak Romanian, or any of a hundred other languages. Vento is right: Only English can be demanded in America.

The use of Spanish is solely within the province of the business owners.

"I'm like, uh, why are they sending us?" Williams recalls. "We were returning kitchen equipment. We were not combat-effective . . . You are going to investigate a rocket attack. So you know they have rockets. Why send guys in a rickety Humvee to chase guys who have rockets?"

You know what happened:
Bernstein, one of West Point's finest, a genuine hero educated for military brilliance at a cost of more than $400,000 to taxpayers, died without a $20 tourniquet.

Oy.

GravatarHey, shouldn't the right wing be calling for the heads of these traitorous Texas ranchers??

A few Texas ranchers tired of costly repairs to cattle fences damaged by illegal immigrants have installed an easier route over the U.S.-Mexican border - ladders.

"It's an attempt to get them to use the ladders instead of tearing the fences," said Scott Pattinson, who owns one of a group of ranches known as La Copa.

GravatarI sometimes watch fauxnews and listen to Hannity, just to keep up with the name-calling. One theme I hear a lot from these guys is that Michael Moore, Al Franken, and other progressive voices tell lies. But I haven't actually heard any specific lies they've told.

Iraq insurgency in 'last throes,' Cheney says, Monday, June 20, 2005

plus it makes 'em easier targets, high up against the skyline like that...

Gravatarhadenough,

That's just the small stuff...there's other things happening on the sly that no one is talking about...very subtle. It'll come out eventually, but not too many people will connect-the-dots to see the big picture it's hiding.

I just hear a lot of scuttlebutte and see "strange" things that aren't what one would say is " norm". I just wonder if things are being kept under wraps till after the mid-terms so not to blow the repugs re-election bids.

GravatarJeebus, can't they lose this war any faster, and get the hell out to stop the killing? They got one stinking terrorist, and it's cost 2500 USer lives, 100,000 iraqi lives (and counting), and bin Laden keeps on making videos. And no righties will join up. this bushwa about the military being mostly republican is just that.
