His books are great.

GravatarObviously, the cocktail weenies are spiked with lead.

GravatarJoe Klein is the male Wonkette of his generation.

GravatarI guess Bush is going to need another press conference soon. At which, he will of course say something totally stupid, AGAIN. The SCLM will laugh with him and the poll numbers will slip further and further. By this time next year, Shrubbery will be flirting with the teens of approval.

GravatarOh well, of course there's another thread. I was just getting fired up on the last thread.

GravatarBut, will Joe Klein notice?

Gravatar

GravatarGwen Awful is on Wait, Wait....

Gravatarbtw- (the cocktail weenies are spiked with depleted uranium.)

GravatarRegardless of what Bush does, there will always be that hard core that will back him. I would be surprised to see him dip much further.

GravatarBush bounce=Bush economy. Lies, lies, lies and projection, followed by lies. Gorbachev looks pretty good next to this crew of fascist pigs.
ronjazz, irritated

He's looked good for a long time. I liked the guy - I thought he was a smart man and might have moved slowly enough to keep Russia from falling totally into the hands of criminals.

But he was bounced out by a drunk. Gee, funny how that happens...

Gravatar"What can the Democrats do? They can play politics or be responsible. The political option is to embrace "cut and run"; call for an immediate withdrawal, as Kerry did; and hope the public is so sick of Bush and sick of the war that it will punish the g.o.p. in the fall. But embracing defeat is a risky political strategy, especially for a party not known for its warrior ethic. In fact, the responsible path is the Democrats' only politically plausible choice: they will have to give yet another new Iraqi government one last shot to succeed. This time, U.S. military sources say, the measure of success is simple: Operation Forward Together, the massive joint military effort launched last week to finally try to secure Baghdad, has to work. If Baghdad isn't stabilized, the war is lost. "I know it's the cliche of the war," an Army counterinsurgency specialist told me last week. "But we'll know in the next six months—and this time, it'll be the last next six months we get."

Joe Klein is not particularly intelligent.

Gravatar> Joe Klein is the male Wonkette of his generation.

Does he like to take it up the ass too?

GravatarIs this the flirting thread?

GravatarThat the elite punditry think Bush is doing a great job is probably not unlike the French aristocracy thinking Marie Antoinette was just so charming and funny.

Telling those starving peasants who complained about no flour for bread to go eat cake?? Hilarious!!

GravatarMeasuring success is very difficult.

GravatarI invested my savings in two soccer matches. I can't shake this feeling I have that God wants me to retire early.

GravatarGwen just dissed John Edwards.

GravatarThe only pipple Bush has left to lose are all wingers and fundies, and if the Immigration "debate" heats up again...

GravatarBut embracing defeat is a risky political strategy, especially for a party not known for its warrior ethic.

Uh, FDR and World War II anyone??

GravatarBut he was bounced out by a drunk. Gee, funny how that happens...

To be fair, he was bounced by a drunk who stood against a coup, which is more than Bush can ever say...

GravatarThere will always be another 6 months.

GravatarIf you turn the corner 4 times, you end up right back where you started.

GravatarRegardless of what Bush does, there will always be that hard core that will back him. I would be surprised to see him dip much further.

GravatarI've started taking these Friedmanesque predictions and putting their expiration dates in my calendar. If you spot them, please send them in.

Ah...Eschaton: the gift that keeps on giving.

GravatarJoke's advice to Democrats in that column is to "be responsible" and "give yet another new Iraqi government one last shot to succeed." Fortunately, that will only take one more Friedman. Unfortunately, that means no "irresponsible" criticism of Bush until after the midterms. At which point the Republicans are still in control of congress and Bush is home free.

Some folks just can't take a Joke.

GravatarI can see a great bufu train: Rush is at the engine, Klein is the "coal car", Tony Snow, WSJ, ...etc. Plus, it could always go in a circle if you get enough boofers.

GravatarBut embracing defeat is a risky political strategy, especially for a party not known for its warrior ethic.

"And now we turn to political analyist Ann Coulter for his-err, her, analysis."
"Thanks Wolf. I think that the Democrats are just being whiny little sissies, and trying to challenge Bush's constitutionally mandated powers as Supreme Fuhrer of the Earth."

"Whatever."
"Right. Now we go to House minority leader Nancy Pelosi. Nancy, why are Democrats complaining so loudly over this?"
"...well, it is-"

GravatarReposted from dead thread (Puff, Puff):

COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM at WORK

Two Republican policy actions the past week unmask their social Darwinist philosophy:

1) the Bush Administration increased the work requirements of welfare recipients. Presently, welfare policy has time eligibility restrictions, then recipients are permanently taken off welfare. The period allowed welfare receipients the opportunity to receive education & training to become regular members of the workforce. The new Bush rules forces much higher percentages of recipients to spent this period just working at the lowly minimum wage rather than receive preparation for meaningful jobs.

Also, due to low IQ, serious long term mental problems, recurring physicial problems, a reasonable percentage of welfare recipients are incapable of holding steady jobs. As a college professor, I used to look at these studies on the impaired welfare recipients & the estimates ranged from 18 to 28% of welfare recipients. The welfare legislation passed treated the percent as around 20%, a low ball figure that assumed people incapable of holding jobs should be required to work.

The real point of all this is the continuation of the Repub tradition of going after the weakest in society.

To be continued.

2) The Repub Congress is set to pass legislation that would raise Medicaid eligibility standards by requiring recipients to show citizenship by providing either a passport, birth certificate etc.

This sounds reasonable until you consider that many of the nation's poor were not born in a hospital (& thus have no birth certificate), have no passport etc. The intent here is to make it more onerous for Americans to receive Medicaid & thus increase the suffering of America's poor.

In his first visit to Egypt, the US attorney-general has defended the secret transfer of terrorism suspects to countries where they could face torture - a practice the US calls "extraordinary rendition".

But Alberto Gonzales refused to confirm reports that Egypt, with a human rights record the US has criticised, was one of those countries.

"I'm not going to confirm that there have been any [suspects sent to Egypt], and I'm certainly not going to talk about the numbers - it's intelligence activity and we just don't do that," Gonzales told reporters after meeting Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian president.

GravatarHere's a story saying in the next six months they're hoping to see a surge in US veterans participating in the handicapped Olympics.

"Athletic feats on the field of battle, when people are shooting at you, are much more feats of athleticism than those on a sterile track," said Melia, whose group put on 62 sporting events for disabled veterans last year. "We certainly think several of our Wounded Warrior Project folks may become Paralympians."

There were no Iraq or Afghanistan veterans among U.S. disabled athletes in Athens in 2004 or Turin earlier this year.

"It takes a while for them to be competitive," said Joe Walsh, managing director of U.S. Paralympics in Colorado Springs. "It may be six months from now, we'll see a greater amount of participation."

Like the crew of Bible Archaeology Search and Exploration (B.A.S.E) Institute, a Christian archeology organization dedicated to looking for biblical artifacts. They think they've found Noah's Ark. What persuaded them?

"I can't imagine what it could be if it is not the Ark," said their spokeswoman.

More shocking, over 450,000 people polled think the story of Noah's Ark is historical fact.
