Ethiopian troops have reportedly moved into another town in south-western Somalia, two days after entering the country to protect the weak government.
Eyewitnesses say about 200 Ethiopian soldiers took control of the airstrip outside Waajid early on Saturday.
There is no confirmation from either the Ethiopian or the Somali government.
The Union of the Islamic Courts (UIC), a militia which controls the capital and much of the south, has vowed to drive out Ethiopian troops.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israel will pursue its war on Hizbollah with more military incursions into south Lebanon but will not unleash a full-scale invasion for the moment, an Israeli army spokesman said on Saturday.
Thousands of Lebanese civilians have fled north fearing Israel will invade and expand an 11-day-old bombardment of Lebanon which has killed 345 people, mostly civilians.
Resisting international pressure for a ceasefire, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said before a trip to the region that the conflict's root causes -- in her view Hizbollah's armed presence on Israel's border and the role of its allies, Syria and Iran -- had to be tackled first.
An army spokesman said Israeli forces were making only limited thrusts a few kilometers (miles) into south Lebanon.

US forces have committed butchery in Iraq and should leave, the speaker of the country's parliament has said.
Mahmoud al-Mashhadani was speaking on Saturday at a UN-sponsored conference on transitional justice and reconciliation in Baghdad.
"Just get your hands off Iraq and the Iraqi people and Muslim countries, and everything will be all right," he said in a speech as the conference opened.
"What has been done in Iraq is a kind of butchery of the Iraqi people."
He also criticised US support for Israeli attacks against Lebanon.

So if Condi calls Lebanon's destruction a new birth, does that mean it's open season on born-again Christians? Makes about as much sense.
And, no, NSA, that's not a threat. If the fundies really belong to Jesus, which I profoundly doubt, he can call them home himself.
The fact that Falwell, Robertson, Dobson and of course Oral Roberts are still on earth proves how reluctant Jesus is to claim them.

G'morning, all.
Hey, you saw this, right? : "....But Israel’s request for expedited delivery of the satellite and laser-guided bombs was described as unusual by some military officers, and as an indication that Israel still had a long list of targets in Lebanon to strike. "
i'm calling this one as the next step in what i've been saying. The unbombed targets are not in Lebanon. They are in Iran. Bushco will not stop blocking ceasefires, etc, until the Israeli Air Force has hit all the Bushco targets in Iran. that is the fee for the US assistance to Israel in Lebanon - and maybe Syria, if it all spins according to 'der Plan'.
Hey, wait, heeeeere's Condi! : "Resisting international pressure for a ceasefire, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said before a trip to the region that the conflict's root causes -- in her view Hizbollah's armed presence on Israel's border and the role of its allies, Syria and Iran -- had to be tackled first."
So, Israel into Syria, and IAF bombing the Bushco sites in Iran. One would almost think that PNAC is still running the White House, and through the WH the subordinate Congress and stacked SCOTUS.

War is ritual. I think he have to compare them to pagan sacrificial rituals. Build themselves up into a frenzy, trying to reenact the original scene where there was a "real" opponent, and then they take the poor fella who throughout the ritual has been built up to be this original bad guy and march him up there and rip out his heart.
Summary:
1. Internal discord / destabilization
2. Need for ritual to return former unanimity / conformity
3. Ritual to put people into frenzy or state mind of original violence (WWII was our original violence)
4. Poor slob, dress him all up to be Hitler and then rip out his heart.
Kind of like movies where the bad guy is designated and then we all gang up on him and he's destroyed, we cheer and feel good about ourselves.

Thousands of people across the UK are joining demonstrations against Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Eleven rallies were organised by groups such as Stop The War Coalition and the Muslim Association of Britain.
They are being held in towns and cities including Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Exeter and York.
The rallies come as the UK begins winding down its evacuation of Britons from Lebanon. About 3,000 have been taken to safety in Cyprus since Monday.
Meanwhile, a rally to show solidarity with people in northern Israel - areas of which have been hit by Hezbollah rockets - is being held on Sunday by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

You would have been mesmerized by recent events here, I came home and shortly after I walked in the door two field mice scampered out from the back, out thru a crack in the kitchen sink area where the pipes go thru the wall outside, I walked s-l-o-w-l-y into the kitchen where I saw a snake twined around the sink by which time I was laughing hysterically, tapped something against the sink until the snake s-l-o-w-l-y dropped out of sight, at which point I located the baby field mouse in the sink where it couldn't get out, scooped it into a can and let it go outside. the religion of ancient Greece and Rome was more concerned about orthopraxy (doing the right things), was more important than orthodoxy (believing the right things).
Ancient Religions had no concept of 'sin' 'salvation' etc. or any Judeao-Christian notions.
there was no real single version and the Romans could be pretty relaxed when it came to other deities (except this strange sect called 'christanity', whats this about only worshipping one god and not allowing any other deities, its madness!).
at certain stages in Roman history cults like Bacchus and Isis were banned because they caused riots and disturbed the peace (but they always came back in one form or another)

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been lobbying Muslims to be more active in seeking an end to Israel's continuing assault on Gaza and Lebanon, his office said.
"The silence of the United Nations... and some Western countries' support for Zionist atrocities against defenceless children and women calls for a more active role by Muslim nations to put an end to these attacks," Ahmadinejad said.
The president, a fierce opponent of Israel's existence, also held telephone talks with leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and called for for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Was this unbelievably dumb assertion discussed at all recently? CNN had an article in its technology section about Bush's groping of Merkel and the attention it was getting on the web, especially because of items posted on YouTube. But look what it says about Christy Hardin Smith when she made a generic comment about Bush's fratboy experience:
Many writers saw a sexist aspect to Bush's back rub. "This isn't a Sigma Chi kegger, it's the G-8 Summit," wrote blogger Christy Hardin Smith on Firedoglake.com.
(Bush was actually in Delta Kappa Epsilon. Another Web 2.0 truism: Blogs are not always friendly with the facts.)

My favorite anthropologist posits that primitive religions are the ritualizations of founding or original collective lynchings. Think about WWII and how Hitler has become a demigod and how powerful the idea of WWII is for the pro-war people. Group violence is a powerful thing. Jesus in John 10 said that if there was a crisis He or one his followers would stand in the breach take the violence on Himself and not redirect it to a pharmokos or to an Iraq or any other poor victim. Christianity is against lynching, murder, war, etc, it abhors violence. It realizes human propensity towards collective violence, and instead upholding the human tradition of redirecting human violence to some other poor slob, Christianity in the person of Jesus says that we should take that violence on ourselves. This in a nutshell is Christianity. This is communion, Christ giving us his broken body and blood so that we realize what we're doing, and won't kill our neighbor or someone else.
A Christianity that believes in war/murder is not Christianity.
